  • How can one make the title bar text/buttons have better contrast on dark colors in Windows 8?

    When Windows 8 color setting are set to a very dark color, such as black or navy blue, the title bar text and the minimize/maximize buttons are nearly invisible. This makes dark colors difficult to work with. In Windows 7 there was an advanced color options, this is gone in 8. The registry keys associated with this seem to still be present, but they have no effect. Is there a way to change this? Or a third party application that can do it? I don't want to use the ugly high contrast theme, I want to use the nice Win 8 theme with a dark color.

  • Redircting to a url that has a ? in it

    I have a somewhat strange problem. A client has moved their site to Wordpress - cool no problem. They use a service for link exchanges that has a Wordpress plugin. The issue is that the new Links pages use a query string to display the correct content and I cannot figure out how to redirect the old URLs correctly. Old URLs look like this: domain.com/link/category-name.html The plugin makes them look like this in WP: domain.com/links/?page=category-name.html How in the world can I get the redirect to work properly? Here's what I have tried: Redirect 301 /link/actors.html http://www.artisticimages.biz/links/?page=actors.html Redirect 301 /link/actors.html http://www.artisticimages.biz/links/%3Fpage=actors.html Redirect 301 /link/actors.html http://www.artisticimages.biz/links/\?page=actors.html But none of those have worked. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Software for Company internal Website [closed]

    hope this is the right stackexchange site to ask this: We've a group of webpages/services at work (SE Startup), ranging from SVN, trac, continous integration to link collections to a DMS. Nearly everything has an RSS Feed to get the info I need, with the exception of SVN. I'm looking for some kind of software that can integrate these well on a kind of start-page. The most recent changes, upcoming events etc should be clearly visible, as well as an option to search (the search will be provided from a different tool). A news area should be included as well. Currently, I'm pondering doing this with either wordpress or TWiki, although wordpress seems to be the simpler solution in terms of getting something good looking quickly. Authentication should be handled by HTTP-Basic Auth, which we already have in place and working well. I normally would consider Sharepoint a viable option for this, but we're exclusively mac and linux, I won't put up a windows server just for this.

  • htacces rewrite condition old site to new site with querystring

    I am not even going to pretend to fully understand how htaccess rewrite conidtions work. Ive been working on this for a while searching and searching. I have an old wordpress site www.old-site.com and a new site www.site.com wordpress uses query strings page_id=# to redirect to pages on the old site page_id=2 went to a specific page but on the new site it goes the the home page i need old-site/?page_id=2 to go to site.com/our-company here is what i am trying RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?old-site.com$ [NC] RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^page_id=2$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.site.com/our-company/ [R=301,L] if i take out the rewrite conditio for query string it redirects all traffic from old-site.com to the our company page on the new site. where am i going wrong? i have about 15 redirects i need to do this way. thanks in advance

  • How do I block a single css file from being loaded with firefox or chrome?

    I want to be able to block one css file from loading on my system. The site has multiple sheets that I do want to load but it has one hideous theme.css file that I just have to get rid of. I would prefer to use Chrome but FF is ok too. A system wide ban on the file would be ideal. I want to specify a single url that the computer becomes incapable of fetching it. I will then use stylish to create my own replacement. BTW its a SharePoint theme and it has way too many rules to have to override. Thanks

  • Multi-site Drupal install with sites on different ports using Apache ip-based hosting?

    In the past we've used name-based virtual hosting in Apache. We recently converted websites to SSL and had to go the ip-based route. As a result, we currently have an instance that is set up as follows: www.domain.com using port 80 dev.domain.com using port 8080 Both use the same IP. Is this scenario possible using Drupal multi-site functionality? While we find that dev.domain.com works and reads the correct "dev" database (using the dev settings), it reads theme files from the "www" site instead which is not what we want. Is the culprit the dev's htaccess file? Apache is listening on 8080 and does use the proper DB settings, but just not the correct theme files. One other note: browsing dev.domain.com:8080 gives an error: "The page isn't redirecting properly". Should we just purchase a new IP address for the dev website, or would this still not help? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Grep /var/log for hacker/script kiddy activity and e-mail?

    CentOS 6 Apache Server version: Apache/2.2.15 (Unix) Thinking about how to automatically, once a day, grep all the logs in /var/log/httpd for hacker, phishing, etc activity and e-mail it to myself so I can evaluate what I might need to do. But what are the patterns I can look for? IE, we dont run Wordpress and we see a lot of attempts to access Wordpress related content, obviously for an exploit. Same with PHPMyAdmin. I could do something like repeatedly, matching common patterns we see. # grep -r -i wp-content /var/log/httpd/ # grep -r -i php-my-admin /var/log/httpd/ How do I e-mail myself this the results of each grep command or better yet all Grep results in a single e-mail?

  • Android Title bar leaving space in when application is resumed

    I am using a Tab Host in my Android App. I have the Titlebar hidden. When I leave the App and resume to it, I have some strange behaviour. If I resume to a tab using a list activity with listView.setAdapter, the title bar is hidden and the space it takes up is consumed by the App. However, if I resume to any tab without the listView.setAdapter, the Titlebar is hidden, but space which was used by it is left behind. This is pushes my tabs (which are positioned at the bottom of the screen) off the screen. The space is once again consumed by my app if I then change to any other tab. I have tried to invalidate most of the obvious Views in my App without and success.   • A whole site for reviewing of SQL Server MVP Deep Dives

    This book just keeps amazing me. Not only as I read through some chapters for the first time, and others for the second and third times, but also as I read reviews of it written by other people. The guys over at http://sqlperspectives.wordpress.com are a prime example. They’ve been going through each chapter, each writing a review on it, and often getting a guest blogger to write something as well – and they’re clearly getting a lot of stuff out of this brilliant book. Back when I first heard about them doing this, I had offered to be involved, and recently did an interview with them about my chapters (chapter seven and chapter forty). That interview can be found at http://sqlperspectives.wordpress.com/2010/03/20/interview-with-rob-farley/ – and covers how I got into databases, and how I think the database roles in the IT industry are changing. Treat it like a book club, discussing each chapter with others (guest blogging perhaps?), and you’ll probably end up getting even more out of it.     I have been recently been doing more photography and Flickr was only allowing me to do so much with the images in displaying them.  No customization of skin, no page grouping, no post like pages.  So I decided to host a WordPress blog to host my images.  I really wanted to try WordPress to see what features single-hosted blog products offer that our multiple-hosted blog system could take advantage of.  So far the product is very cool, I can see how such a large developer network would help produce such cool “apps” for WP.  The product makes if very easy to make changes to your hosted environment that would be a little scary for a multiple blog host.  I need to compare features for their hosted solution. Any who, FotoJeff.com is my new photography blog home.  I have been working with the Kansas City Rescue Mission a lot lately so most of my shots are for them.     Another week has thankfully passed by, so it is time to take a break and have some fun. This week’s game tests your ability to light up the whole Christmas tree…can you figure out the correct wiring configuration? Christmas Tree Light Up The object of the game is simple…light up all of the bulbs on the Christmas tree. While the game may look quick and easy at first you will need to do some thinking and experimenting to come up with the correct wiring configuration. The instructions are very simple…just click on any of the wiring sections or bulbs to rotate them. Keep in mind that you may have to click a few times to line the wiring sections or bulbs up as desired since the rotation is always clockwise. Note: You will need use all of the wiring sections available to completely light the tree up. Each time you will be presented with a different starting setup coming from your power source. Time to hook up the lights! Note: It is recommended that you disable the sound for the game since the “rotation” sounds can be slightly irritating. A nice start but there are still a lot of bulbs to light up. Getting closer… Almost there…only two more bulbs to light up. Success! Have fun playing!
