  • Fast, accurate 2d collision

    - by Neophyte
    I'm working on a 2d topdown shooter, and now need to go beyond my basic rectangle bounding box collision system. I have large levels with many different sprites, all of which are different shapes and sizes. The textures for the sprites are all square png files with transparent backgrounds, so I also need a way to only have a collision when the player walks into the coloured part of the texture, and not the transparent background. I plan to handle collision as follows: Check if any sprites are in range of the player Do a rect bounding box collision test Do an accurate collision (Where I need help) I don't mind advanced techniques, as I want to get this right with all my requirements in mind, but I'm not sure how to approach this. What techniques or even libraries to try. I know that I will probably need to create and store some kind of shape that accurately represents each sprite minus the transparent background. I've read that per pixel is slow, so given my large levels and number of objects I don't think that would be suitable. I've also looked at Box2d, but haven't been able to find much documentation, or any examples of how to get it up and running with SFML.

  • Now that Apple's intending to deprecate Java on OS X, what language should I focus on?

    - by Smalltown2000
    After getting shot down on SO, I'll try this here: I'm sure you'll all know of Apple's recent announcement to deprecate Java on OS X (such as discussed here). I've recently come back to programming in the last year or so since I originally learnt on ye olde BASIC many years ago. I have a Mac at home and a PC at work and whilst I have got Windows and Ubuntu installed on my Mac as VMs, I chose to focus my "relearning" on VB first (as it was closest to BASIC) and then rapidly moved to Java as it was cross platform (with minimal effort) and so it was easiest to work on code from both OSes. So my question, if the winds of change on Mac are blowing away from Java and in this post-Sun era, what would be the best language to focus my new efforts on? Please note, this isn't a general "which language is better?" thread and or an opportunity for the associated flame-war. There's plenty of those and it's not the point. I realise that in the long term one shouldn't be allegiant to an individual language so, taking this as an excuse, the question is specifically which is going to be the most quick to be productive on given the background whilst bearing in mind minimum portability rewrites (aspiration rather then requirement) and with a long term value of usage. To that I see the main options as: C# - Closest in "style" to Java but M$ dependent (unless you consider Mono of course) C++ - Hugely complex but if even slightly conquered, then a win? Is it worth the climb up the learning curve? VB.Net - Already have background so easiest to go back to but who uses VB for .Net these days? Surely if using a CLI language I should use C#... Python - Cross-platform but what about UI for the end-user? EDIT: As a usage priority, I envision desktop application programming. Though the ability to branch in the future is always desirable. I guess graphics are the next direction once basics are in place.

  • Why does my system slow down or freeze when there is heavy disk activity?

    - by user72270
    Im a first-time user to Ubuntu-12.04 with WUBI installation. My NoteBook Information : Dell vostro 3450 : i5 2410m, 3 gb ram, intel hd3000, amd 6630m hybrid. Surfing and playing games works flawlessly, however, I'm having huge problems when installing applications and generally copying and moving files. When doing so, system is significantly slower and freezes quite often (Firefox gets bluish, sometimes even black n white). I would say that Ubuntu allocates too much resources on file transfers and installing, but even these tasks are very slow. Here is very specific example : today, i tried to move 6 GB file from win 7 installation. It was good at first, i jumped to firefox but after a while firefox started to randomly turn bluish and mouse was randomly stopping working. It was gradually worse and worse and it got to a point when firefox black n whited and mouse wasn't working at all. I raged and went for some meal, when i got back screen was black. It probably unlogged me due to inactivity, when i pushed random button to bring screen to life i had to wait few minutes to let it show me only my screen background. No log in screen, just background and working mouse. NoteBook fan was working at 100 % so I assumed that file transfer was going on and I left it to work. Nothing then changed for a full hour so I hard rebooted it. File transfer unsuccessful, It transfered hardly 2 gigs. Is this normal ? What to do in these situations ? It didn't let me load system manager and not even terminal. Thanks.

  • How to Boot or "enter" into ubnutu 11.04 (Natty Narwhall) on PS3 after installing it?

    - by Xdm
    After failing to install ubuntu 11.04 Desktop version (burned on a dvd, because iso's file size was 726 Mb), in tried the alternate version (about 686 Mb) which i burned into a CD. During the installation process, i manually partitioned the hard drive using ext3. After the installation, the CD ejects itself and i hit "continue". In the k boot prompt i hit "enter" on my the keyboard. I see i welcome message in a dark background (a kind of full screen terminal/console called CLI i think) and was asked to enter my user name and password. After that, instead of booting into the beautiful desktop of Ubuntu, i saw this: ubuntu@my_name$ It was like a line of command i think, where you can use "sudo" commands. It is called a non-graphic mode i think. My my REAL problem is to enter Ubuntu 11.04 with the chocolate-colored background and the African music drum. I tried many commands to boot into the graphic mode of the system such as Ctr+Alt+F7 but nothing happened. In this case, i just saw numbers showing available blocks. I DON'T UNDERSTAND. I also tried startx and sudo startx without result. I DO bought a PS3 BOTH for gaming and for Ubuntu because i can't afford buying a PC. Please help me with my trouble dear Ubuntu 11.04 users. I am counting on you. All the best Xdm

  • Repurposing CSS Class Selectors

    - by limefartlek
    I don't know what this technique is called, I've only seen it used. It's a way to repurpose the same selectors with CSS. For example if I create h1 { font-size:18px; color:#FFFFFF; font-family:Arial, Helvetica;margin:0; padding:0; } h2 { font-size:18px; color:#000000; font-family:Arial, Helvetica; font-weight:normal;margin:0; padding:0; } I can repurpose the h selectors with something like .whatever h1 { color: #000; font: 2.0em arial, sans-serif; background-color: #fff3ea; margin: 50px 0px 0px 50px; } .whatever h2 { color: #000; font: 1.7em bold arial, sans-serif; background-color: #fff3ea; margin: 25px 0px 25px 75px; } If h1 and h2 appear inside of a div called whatever, then they will assume those properties. You can do this with ID tags and class tags but I can't for the life of me remember how this is done. Any thoughts?

  • Is it normal for GRUB to take some time (15+s) after I choose what to boot?

    - by zarnaik
    I had been planning to change the background of my bootloader for a while, and finally got to it. Now the black screen I get for quite some time was made clear. It is still GRUB, because the background image stays, while all of the text is gone. Then it just simply shows the Lubuntu loading screen for, usually, not more than 3 seconds. I run Lubuntu 12.10. My question is, is this normal behaviour or is something going wrong, causing GRUB to take longer? Here are the contents of my grub file located at /etc/default/ : # If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update # /boot/grub/grub.cfg. # For full documentation of the options in this file, see: # info -f grub -n 'Simple configuration' GRUB_DEFAULT=0 #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true GRUB_TIMEOUT=5 GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian` GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" GRUB_BACKGROUND="/usr/share/lubuntu/wallpapers/1210-Windmill_by_Ferran_Reyes.png" # Uncomment to enable BadRAM filtering, modify to suit your needs # This works with Linux (no patch required) and with any kernel that obtains # the memory map information from GRUB (GNU Mach, kernel of FreeBSD ...) #GRUB_BADRAM="0x01234567,0xfefefefe,0x89abcdef,0xefefefef" # Uncomment to disable graphical terminal (grub-pc only) #GRUB_TERMINAL=console # The resolution used on graphical terminal # note that you can use only modes which your graphic card supports via VBE # you can see them in real GRUB with the command `vbeinfo' #GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480 # Uncomment if you don't want GRUB to pass "root=UUID=xxx" parameter to Linux #GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true # Uncomment to disable generation of recovery mode menu entries #GRUB_DISABLE_RECOVERY="true" # Uncomment to get a beep at grub start #GRUB_INIT_TUNE="480 440 1" If you need any other information please tell me and I'll do my best to provide it. :)

  • Drawning with canvas - problem with sizing [closed]

    - by pioncz
    For example i made 2 canvas with size 500px x 500px and 100px x 100px to see how fillrect works and i found that canvas.fillrect doesnt takes px for arguments, and my question is: how to make pixels as arguments or how to count these arguments for pixels? This is example: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function draw() { var canvas = document.getElementById('myCanvas'); var ctx = canvas.getContext('2d'); ctx.fillStyle = '#00f'; ctx.fillRect (0, 0,100, 100); var canvas2 = document.getElementById('myCanvas2'); var ctx2 = canvas2.getContext('2d'); ctx2.fillStyle = '#0f0'; ctx2.fillRect (0, 0, 100, 100); } </script> </head> <body onLoad="draw();"> <canvas id="myCanvas" style="background:black;width:500px;height:500px;display:block;position:absolute;top:0px;left:0px;"> </canvas> <canvas id="myCanvas2" style="background:purple;width:100px;height:100px;display:block;position:absolute;top:0px;left:0px;"> </canvas> </body> </html>

  • IE6 iframe anchor links moves iframe up

    - by WastedSpace
    Hi, Having a real head scratching moment... I have a site where there is a footer div that always sits at the bottom of the screen (26px high), and above that I have an iFrame which sizes to 100% of the remaining height. This works well. Even clicking on anchor links inside the iframe works as it should in all browsers (apart from IE6). Unfortunately I still have to support IE6. What is happening in IE6 is that the footer jumps up the page with the iframe still above it when I click on an anchor link. The top part of the iframe is cut off. Even the iframe's scroll bars disappear under the top of the browser. I have created some screen shots to show you what I mean. I have blurred out the actual data for now. How it should look (and does look) in other browsers: http://img100.imageshack.us/i/screen1om.jpg/ How it looks in IE6 before clicking on an anchor link: http://img532.imageshack.us/i/screen2e.jpg/ (I had to make the iframe's height 95%, because if I set it to 100% height weirdly it wouldn't show anything...) How it looks in IE6 after clicking on an anchor link: http://img214.imageshack.us/i/screen3g.jpg/ It's hard for me to show the fool code I am using, as there are lots of other things going on (of which I'm confident doesn't affect the layout), so will try to summarise: The html code (simplified): <div id="ifra"><iframe src="home.php" frameborder="0" name="content_pane" id="content_pane" marginheight="10" marginwidth="10"></iframe></div> <h1 class="toolbar"><a id="footerlink">Site Name</a></h1> The CSS (simplified): html, body { overflow: hidden; } html, body, iframe { height: 100%; } body { padding: 0; margin: 0; } #ifra, iframe { position: absolute; width: 100%; left: 0; } #ifra { top: 0px; bottom: 26px; } iframe { border: 0 none; } .toolbar { height: 26px; background-color: #C2C7C9; position: fixed; bottom: 0; width: 100%; background-image: url(bg.png); background-repeat: repeat-x; background-position: left top; } IE8 specific CSS: #ifra, .toolbar { position: fixed; } IE7 specific CSS: html { padding: 0px; } #ifra, iframe { position: absolute; } #ifra { top: 0px; bottom: 26px; } * html body { padding /**/: 100px 0 50px 0; overflow-y /**/: hidden; } IE6 specific CSS: .toolbar { position: fixed; } * html { overflow-y: hidden; } * html body { overflow-y: auto; height: 100%; } * html .toolbar { position: absolute; } iframe { height: 95%; } #ifra { height: 100%; } I know it's not ideal not seeing the full code, but just wondering if there is anything jumping out at anyone from these lines of code? By the way I did consider dropping the div surrounding the iframe, but for some reason the scroll bars would disappear under the footer in all browsers... Thanks for looking! Ali.

  • Animate button on MouseOver and MouseDown

    - by haagel
    I'm making my own ControlTemplate for a standard Button in WPF. I want to change the background of my button when the user hovers over the button with the mouse, but also when the user presses the button (to yet another color). This seems like a common behavior, but I can't get it to work. My template consists of a Border with an Image inside. It is the background color (a gradient really) of the Border that I want to animate. I have triggers in my template that activates animations (storyboards). The MouseOver/Out works just fine. My problem occurs when I press the button. The Press animation runs as it should, and so does the Release animation. But after this the MouseOut will never run. The button gets stuck in the MouseOver state. What am I doing wrong? <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type Button}"> <ControlTemplate.Resources> <Storyboard x:Key="MouseOverAnimation"> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop1" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ffefefff" Duration="0:0:0.2" /> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop2" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ffc7c7ff" Duration="0:0:0.2" /> </Storyboard> <Storyboard x:Key="MouseOutAnimation"> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop1" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ffeeeeee" Duration="0:0:0.2" /> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop2" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ffcccccc" Duration="0:0:0.2" /> </Storyboard> <Storyboard x:Key="MouseDownAnimation"> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop1" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ffc7c7ff" Duration="0:0:0.1" /> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop2" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ff9a9aff" Duration="0:0:0.1" /> </Storyboard> <Storyboard x:Key="MouseUpAnimation"> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop1" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ffefefff" Duration="0:0:0.1" /> <ColorAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBorderGradientStop2" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Color" To="#ffc7c7ff" Duration="0:0:0.1" /> </Storyboard> </ControlTemplate.Resources> <Border x:Name="ButtonBorder" CornerRadius="0" BorderBrush="#55aaaaaa" BorderThickness="1" Width="23" Height="22"> <Border.Background> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <GradientBrush.GradientStops> <GradientStop x:Name="ButtonBorderGradientStop1" Color="#ffeeeeee" Offset="0.0" /> <GradientStop x:Name="ButtonBorderGradientStop2" Color="#ffcccccc" Offset="1.0" /> </GradientBrush.GradientStops> </LinearGradientBrush> </Border.Background> <Image x:Name="ButtonIcon" Source="icons/searchicon_bw.png" Width="16" Height="16" /> </Border> <ControlTemplate.Triggers> <Trigger Property="IsMouseOver" Value="True"> <Trigger.EnterActions> <BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource MouseOverAnimation}" /> </Trigger.EnterActions> <Trigger.ExitActions> <BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource MouseOutAnimation}" /> </Trigger.ExitActions> </Trigger> <Trigger Property="IsPressed" Value="True"> <Trigger.EnterActions> <BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource MouseDownAnimation}" /> </Trigger.EnterActions> <Trigger.ExitActions> <BeginStoryboard Storyboard="{StaticResource MouseUpAnimation}" /> </Trigger.ExitActions> </Trigger> </ControlTemplate.Triggers> </ControlTemplate>

  • Why are these divs not aligned and space between?

    - by acidzombie24
    Why isnt everything aligned? No yellow should be visible and no orange should be visible except for the right side and bottom left where theres space for another image. Basically my images are pretty much aligned to the center (i have other pics not in this example which is easier to see). However in this case when i have 150px height image the 150 width seems start lower. Also why are there spaces in between <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> <title>ldfk;sd</title> <style type="text/css"> div.ImgGallery { max-width: 630px; background: orange; } .ImgGallery div { display: inline; } /* http://www.brunildo.org/test/img_center.html */ .ImgGallery div div { display: table-cell; text-align: center; background: gray; width: 150px; height: 150px; } .ImgGallery div{ background: yellow; vertical-align: middle; } //.ImgGallery div div :nth-child(2n+1) { background: red; } .ImgGallery * { vertical-align: middle; } .ImgGallery a { display: block; } .ImgGallery a * { border-style: none; } </style> </head> <div class="smallGallery"> <div class="ImgGallery"> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="b.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="b.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> <div><div><a href="http://google.com"><img src="a.jpg" alt="a.jpg"></a></div></div> </div></div> </body></html>

  • RelativeLayout, ScrollView and navigation bar at bottom

    - by MicNeo
    What I want to do is, make layout like this: Title Date Long text with scrolling Navigation bar stick to the bottom Well I have done everything, however there is a little problem with scrolling. I want only to scroll text. Title and date should be stick to the top, and nav bar to the bottom of activity. And yes, it works, but my nav bar overlaps text :/ I tried everything, there is one solution I found, set fixed height for Scrollview, but this will not work on every devices well, isn't it? I probably could do some calculation in code, and on it change height, but I would like to stay in XML. Any one have any suggestions? Here is my XML file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical" > <LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_marginLeft="5dp" android:layout_marginRight="5dp" android:orientation="vertical" > <LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" > <LinearLayout android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_weight="0.6" android:orientation="vertical" > <TextView android:id="@+id/feed_title" style="@style/h1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:gravity="center_vertical" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/feed_info" style="@style/h2" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" /> </LinearLayout> <ImageView android:id="@+id/feed_fav_ico" android:layout_width="50dp" android:layout_height="50dp" android:layout_alignParentRight="true" android:layout_gravity="center_vertical|right" android:background="@drawable/ic_fav_off" /> </LinearLayout> <ScrollView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:fillViewport="true" android:scrollY="20dp" > <TextView android:id="@+id/feed_text" style="@style/text" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Loren ipsum full tekst" /> </ScrollView> </LinearLayout> <!-- Buttons --> <LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" android:layout_marginLeft="10dp" android:layout_marginRight="10dp" android:background="#FFFFFF" android:orientation="vertical" android:paddingBottom="5dp" > <Button android:id="@+id/go_to_article" style="@style/button_screen" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginBottom="5dp" android:layout_marginTop="15dp" android:text="@string/feed_show_full" /> <LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" > <Button android:id="@+id/next_feed" style="@style/button_screen" android:layout_width="40dp" android:layout_height="40dp" android:background="@drawable/button_arrow_up" /> <Button android:id="@+id/share_feed" style="@style/button_screen" android:layout_width="100dp" android:layout_height="40dp" android:layout_marginLeft="5dp" android:layout_marginRight="5dp" android:text="@string/feed_share" /> <Button android:id="@+id/delete_feed" style="@style/button_screen" android:layout_width="100dp" android:layout_height="40dp" android:layout_marginLeft="5dp" android:layout_marginRight="5dp" android:text="@string/feed_delete" /> <Button android:id="@+id/prev_feed" android:layout_width="40dp" android:layout_height="40dp" android:background="@drawable/button_arrow_down" /> </LinearLayout> </LinearLayout> <!-- ~Buttons --> </RelativeLayout>

  • How to manage a MotionEvent going from one View to another?

    - by Darren
    I have a SurfaceView that takes up part of the screen, and some buttons along the bottom. When a button is pressed and the user drags, I want to be able to drag a picture (based on the button) onto the SurfaceView and have it drawn there. I want to be able to use clickListeners and the like, and not just have a giant SurfaceView with me writing code to detect where the user pressed and if it's a button, etc. I have somewhat of a solution, but it seems a bit of a hack to me. What is the best way to accomplish this using the framework intelligently? Part of my XML: <RelativeLayout android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:background="@drawable/background"> <!-- Place buttons along the bottom --> <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/bottom_bar" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="40dip" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:background="@null"> <ImageButton android:id="@+id/btn_1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_centerVertical="true" android:background="@null" android:src="@drawable/btn_1"> </ImageButton> <!-- More buttons here... --> </RelativeLayout> <!-- Place the SurfaceView in a frame so we can stack on top of it --> <FrameLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="0px" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_above="@id/bottom_bar"> <com.project.question.MySurfaceView android:id="@+id/my_view" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" /> </FrameLayout> And the relevant Java code in MySurfaceView, which extends SurfaceView. mTouchX and Y are used in the onDraw method to draw the image: @Override public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event){ mTouchX = (int) event.getX(); mTouchY = (int) event.getY(); return true; } public void onButtonTouchEvent(MotionEvent event){ event.setLocation(event.getX(), event.getY() + mScreenHeight); onTouchEvent(event); } Finally, the activity: @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE); setContentView(R.layout.my_surface); mView = (MySurfaceView) findViewById(R.id.my_view); mSurfaceHeight = mView.getHeight(); mBtn = (ImageButton) findViewById(R.id.btn_1); mBtn.setOnTouchListener(mTouchListener); } OnTouchListener mTouchListener = new OnTouchListener() { public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) { int [] location = new int[2]; v.getLocationOnScreen(location); event.setLocation(event.getX() + location[0], event.getY()); mView.onButtonTouchEvent(event); return true; } }; Strangely, one has to add to the x-coordinate in the activity, then add to the y coordinate in the View. Otherwise, it doesn't show up in the correct position. If you add nothing, something drawn using mTouchX and mTouchY will show up in the upper left corner of the SurfaceView. Any direction would be greatly appreciated. If I'm going about this completely the wrong way, that would be good information too.

  • Pyramind of DIVs

    - by sebastian
    Hi there, I'm trying to build a pyramid that's made of 4 DIVs. The layout looks like this: ------ | #1 | ------ ---------------- | #2 | #3 | #4 | ---------------- Moreover I need 3 additional DIVs starting at the center DIV (#3) and containing either #1, #2 or #3 additionally. These DIVs are used the build a sliding effect with jQueryUI later on. It's supposed to look like #1, #2 and #4 slide out of #3. The margin between the DIVs is supposed to be 2 pixels. I also want the whole block to be centered. Even with display: inline; and position: absolute; enabled on the visible and invisible DIVs I can't get the layout right. I used some negative margins and when it looked ok for the first time I saw that my top DIV was positioned outside of the html body. I suppose there is a more simple and elegant way to achieve what I want. Thanks in advance Sebastian Here's what I've got so far: HTML: <div id="centerbox"> <div id="main">main</div> <div id="rail_top"> <div id="top">top</div> </div> <div id="rail_left"> <div id="left">left</div> </div> <div id="rail_right"> <div id="right">right</div> </div> </div> CSS: #centerbox { height: 602px; width: 904px; margin-top: 640px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } /* blue */ #main { background-color: #33F; height: 300px; width: 300px; margin: 2px; z-index: 9999; position: absolute; display: inline; margin-left: 302px; } /* green */ #top { background-color: #3F0; height: 300px; width: 300px; z-index: 1; position: absolute; display: inline; } /* pink */ #left { background-color: #F06; height: 300px; width: 300px; z-index: 1; } /* orange */ #right { background-color: #FC0; height: 300px; width: 300px; z-index: 1; margin-left: 302px; } #rail_top { height: 602px; width: 300px; display: inline; position: absolute; margin-top: -300px; margin-left: 302px; } #rail_left { height: 300px; width: 602px; float: left; position: absolute; display: inline; margin-top: 2px; } #rail_right { height: 300px; width: 602px; float: right; position: absolute; display: inline; margin-left: 302px; margin-top: 2px; }

  • Cross Browser Issue

    - by dazedandconfused
    My background is in WinForms programming and I'm trying to branch out a bit. I'm finding cross-browser issues a frustrating barrier in general, but have a specific one that I just can't seem to work through. I want to display an image and place a semi-transparent bar across the top and bottom. This isn't my ultimate goal, of course, but it demonstrates the problem I'm having ina a relatively short code fragment so let's go with it. The sample code below displays as intended in Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. In IE8, the bar at the bottom doesn't appear at all. I've researched it for hours but just can't seem to come up with the solution. I'm sure this is some dumb rookie mistake, but gotta start somewhere. Code snippet... <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title></title> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> </script> <style type="text/css"> .workarea { position: relative; border: 1px solid black; background-color: #ccc; overflow: hidden; cursor: move; -moz-user-focus: normal; -moz-user-select: none; unselectable: on; } .semitransparent { filter: alpha(opacity=70); -moz-opacity: 0.7; -khtml-opacity: 0.7; opacity: 0.7; background-color: Gray; } </style> </head> <body style="width: 800px; height: 600px;"> <div id="workArea" class="workarea" style="width: 800px; height: 350px; left: 100px; top: 50px; background-color: White; border: 1px solid black;"> <img alt="" src="images/TestImage.jpg" style="left: 0px; top: 0px; border: none; z-index: 1;" /> <div id="topBar" class="semitransparent" style="position: absolute;width: 800px; height: 75px; left: 0px; top: 0px; min-height: 75px; border: none; z-index: 2;" /> <div id="bottomBar" class="semitransparent" style="position: absolute; width: 800px; height: 75px; left: 0px; top: 275px; min-height: 75px; border: none; z-index: 2;" /> </div> </body> </html>

  • Warning: comparison with string literals results in unspecified behaviour

    - by nunos
    So I starting the project of writing a simplified sheel for linux in c. I am not at all proficient with c nor with Linux that's exactly the reason I decided it would be a good idea. Starting with the parser, I have already encountered some problems. The code should be straightforward that's why I didn't include any comments. I am getting a warning with gcc: "comparison with string literals results in unspecified behaviour" at the lines commented with "WARNING HERE" (see code below). I have no idea why this causes an warning, but the real problem is that even though I am comparing an "<" to an "<" is doesn't get inside the if... I am looking for an answer for the problem explained, however if there's something that you see in the code that should be improved please say so. Just take in mind I am not that proficient and that this is still a work in progress (or better yet, a work in start). Thanks in advance. #include <stdio.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <string.h> typedef enum {false, true} bool; typedef struct { char **arg; char *infile; char *outfile; int background; } Command_Info; int parse_cmd(char *cmd_line, Command_Info *cmd_info) { char *arg; char *args[100]; int i = 0; arg = strtok(cmd_line, " \n"); while (arg != NULL) { args[i] = arg; arg = strtok(NULL, " \n"); i++; } int num_elems = i; cmd_info->infile = NULL; cmd_info->outfile = NULL; cmd_info->background = 0; int iarg = 0; for (i = 0; i < num_elems; i++) { if (args[i] == "&") //WARNING HERE return -1; else if (args[i] == "<") //WARNING HERE if (args[i+1] != NULL) cmd_info->infile = args[i+1]; else return -1; else if (args[i] == ">") //WARNING HERE if (args[i+1] != NULL) cmd_info->outfile = args[i+1]; else return -1; else cmd_info->arg[iarg++] = args[i]; } cmd_info->arg[iarg] = NULL; return 0; } void print_cmd(Command_Info *cmd_info) { int i; for (i = 0; cmd_info->arg[i] != NULL; i++) printf("arg[%d]=\"%s\"\n", i, cmd_info->arg[i]); printf("arg[%d]=\"%s\"\n", i, cmd_info->arg[i]); printf("infile=\"%s\"\n", cmd_info->infile); printf("outfile=\"%s\"\n", cmd_info->outfile); printf("background=\"%d\"\n", cmd_info->background); } int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { char cmd_line[100]; Command_Info cmd_info; printf(">>> "); fgets(cmd_line, 100, stdin); parse_cmd(cmd_line, &cmd_info); print_cmd(&cmd_info); return 0; }

  • Jquery .Animate Width Problem.

    - by smoop
    Thanks in advance for any-help with this, I'll try and explain it well. I have a container of 1000px width and 220px height, in this I will have three columns 220px in height but with different widths (77px, 200px and 300px). When you click one div it will open to a fixed size (the same for each, say 400px) and the others which are not clicked will shrink back to their original sizes (77px, 200px and 300px). Like an accordian with different widths.. My jquery is getting there but not quite, I know how to create an Event on click, I know from there I need to shrink everything but the one I clicked back to their orignal size. I finish but making the one clicked expand to the size it needs to be. jsfiddle here! $(document).ready(function(){ // Your code here $('.section').click(function() { $('.section').not(this).animate({width:"77px"},400); //alert('clicked!'); $(this).animate({width:"400px"},400); }); }); <div id="pictureNavContainer"> <div class="section pictureSectionOne" id="1"></div> <div class="section pictureSectionTwo" id="2"></div> <div class="section pictureSectionThree" id="3"></div> </div> <style> #pictureNavContainer{background-color:#262626; width:1000px; height:220px; overflow:hidden;} .pictureSectionOne{float:left; background:yellow; height:220px; width:77px;} .pictureSectionTwo{float:left; background:red; height:220px; width:177px;} .pictureSectionThree{float:left; background:blue; height:220px; width:400px;} </style> I figured a kind of solution: <script> $(document).ready(function(){ // Your code here $('.section').click(function() { $('#1').animate({width:"50px"},400); $('#2').animate({width:"100px"},400); $('#3').animate({width:"200px"},400); //alert('clicked!'); $(this).animate({width:"400px"},400); }); }); </script> But the code isnt very good.. but it works This: $(function(){ var $sections = $('.section'); var orgWidth = []; var animate = function() { var $this = $(this); $sections.not($this).each(function(){ var $section = $(this), org = orgWidth[$section.index()]; $section.animate({ width: org }, 400); }); $this.animate({ width: 400 }, 400); }; $sections.each(function(){ var $this = $(this); orgWidth.push($this.width()); $this.click(animate); }); });

  • Android: MediaPlayer gapless or seamless Video Playing

    - by John Wang
    I can play the videos fine back to back by implementing the OnCompletionListener to set the data source to a different file. No problems there. I call reset() and prepare() just fine. What I haven't been able to figure out, is how to get rid of the 1-2 second gap screen flicker between the data source change and the new video starting. The gap shows a black screen, and I haven't found any way to get around it. I've tried setting the background of the parent view to an image, but it manages to bypass that. Even if the SurfaceView is transparent (which it is by default.) I've also tried to have the multiple video files played at the same time, and switching mediaplayer's display when one ends and the other is supposed to start. The last thing I tried, was to have a second view in the background that I show temporarily while the video is "preparing" and removing it when the video is ready to start. That also wasn't very seamless. Is there any way to get rid of that gap. Running a video in a loop works wonderfully and does exactly what I want with the exception that it's looking through the same video instead of playing a different one that I pick. main.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:background="@drawable/background" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <SurfaceView android:id="@+id/surface" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_gravity="center"> </SurfaceView> </FrameLayout> Player.java public class Player extends Activity implements OnCompletionListener, MediaPlayer.OnPreparedListener, SurfaceHolder.Callback { private MediaPlayer player; private SurfaceView surface; private SurfaceHolder holder; public void onCreate(Bundle b) { super.onCreate(b); setContentView(R.layout.main); surface = (SurfaceView)findViewById(R.id.surface); holder = surface.getHolder(); holder.addCallback(this); holder.setType(SurfaceHolder.SURFACE_TYPE_PUSH_BUFFERS); } public void onCompletion(MediaPlayer arg0) { File clip = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(),"file2.mp4"); playVideo(clip.getAbsolutePath()); } public void onPrepared(MediaPlayer mediaplayer) { holder.setFixedSize(player.getVideoWidth(), player.getVideoHeight()); player.start(); } private void playVideo(String url) { try { File clip = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(),"file1.mp4"); if (player == null) { player = new MediaPlayer(); player.setScreenOnWhilePlaying(true); } else { player.stop(); player.reset(); } player.setDataSource(url); player.setDisplay(holder); player.setOnPreparedListener(this); player.prepare(); player.setOnCompletionListener(this); } catch (Throwable t) { Log.e("ERROR", "Exception Error", t); } }
