  • The single most useful Emacs feature

    - by Readonly
My primary editor is Emacs, but my usage habits and knowledge of features has barely changed over the last few years. What are the Emacs features that you use on a daily basis? Are there any little-known Emacs features that you find very useful? Edit: Made this into the recommended poll format...please put one feature per answer from now on.

  • Changing UI color in Eclipse

    - by Lo'oris
I'm aware of this topic: I've used it to change most of the editor colors, and that's great. But that wasn't enought, there's still too much white (and I need to change it because it hurts my eyes). I've searched in the preferences (both using Eclipse itself and editing the files) for instances of while (255,255,255) and changed them all. Looks like I'm missing something. too much white in the UI: http://www.imagebanana.com/view/gy89qf7/eclipse_too_much_white_1.png totally white in this screen: http://www.imagebanana.com/view/j8282wf/eclipse_too_much_white_2.png

  • C# Dictionary<> and mutable keys

    - by Pierreten
I was told that one of the many reasons strings were made immutable in the C# spec was to avoid the issue of HashTables having keys changed when references to the string keys altered their content. The Dictionary< type allows reference types to be used as a key. How does the dictionary avoid the issue of altered keys that lead to "misplaced" values? Is there a memberwise clone made of an object when used as a key?

  • JQuery. Layout is shaking during animation

    - by Andrew Florko
Hello everybody, JQuery accordion animation (as well as simple hides / shows) looks weird with some browsers (IE, Opera). But Fire Fox and Chrome renders animation perfectly without artifacts. Html layout tends to shake with IE / Opera during animation as if surrounding paddings / margins are changed for small random value. How can I minimize this effect. Is it jquery bug or browsers issue?

  • jQuery - Save to SQL via PHP

    - by Kenny Bones
This is probably easy for you guys, but I can't understand it. I want to save the filename of an image to it's own row in the SQL base. Basically, I log on to the site where I have my own userID. And each user has its own column for background images. And the user can choose his own image if he wants to. So basically, when the user clicks on the image he wants, a jquery click event occurs and an ajax call is made to a php file which is supposed to take care of the actual update. The row for each user always exist so there's only an update of the data that's necessary. First, I collect the filename of the css property 'background-image' and split it so I get only the filename. I then store that filename in a variable I call 'filename' which is then passed on to this jQuery snippet: $.ajax({ url: 'save_to_db.php', data: filename, dataType:'Text', type: 'POST', success: function(data) { // Just for testing purposes. alert('Background changed to: ' + data); } }); And this is the php: <?php require("dbconnect.php") ?> <?php $uploadstring = ($_POST['filename']); mysql_query("UPDATE brukere SET brukerBakgrunn = $uploadstring WHERE brukerID=" .$_SESSION['id'] .""; mysql_close(); ?> Basically, each user has their own ID and this is called 'brukerID' The table everything is in is called 'brukere' and the column I'm supposed to update is the one called 'brukerBakgrunn' When I just run the javascript snippet, I get this message box in return where it says: Background changed to: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ';' in /var/www/clients/client2/web8/web/save_to_db.php on line 8 I actualle get this messagebox twice, not sure why. Line 8 in 'save_to_db.php' is this one: mysql_query("UPDATE brukere SET brukerBakgrunn = $uploadstring WHERE brukerID=" .$_SESSION['id'] .""; Not sure if you need to see db_connect.php as well. I can add that later if you need to see it. So what am I missing here?

  • value of c define changes unexpectedly

    - by NomeN
I have a lot of #define's in my code. Now a weird problem has crept up. I have this: #define _ImmSign 010100 (I'm trying to simulate a binary number) Obviously, I expect the number to become 10100. But when I use the number it has changed into 4160. What is happening here? And how do I stop it?

  • VirtualStringTree hide node(s)

    - by michal
Hi, is that possible to hide specific nodes in VirtualStringTree? I'm implementing "filtering" feature (the VST acts as a list with columns), and I'd like to avoid reloading content each time the filter is changed - instead, much faster would be to tell VST not to render specific items ... any solutions?

  • Accessing the database and sending an email in a symfony batch script

    - by morpheous
I am running Symfony 1.3.2 on Ubuntu. I need to write a batch script that can: Access the database using the ORM Send email(s) IIRC, this was in a previous cookback, but I thing that was for an earlier version of Symfony (the API may have changed since). Does anyone know how I may access the database via the ORM layer in a batch script and also how to send out email(s) in a batch script?

  • Compare filedate before download it

    - by Christian
Hi, I have an app which is downloading several plist-files when starting the app and storing them in the NSHomeDirectory/Documents/ path. This will take some time and often there is only one file that changed. My questions are: -how can I get the date of the files (the stored one and the file on my webserver)? -how can I compare the date of the stored file with the date of the file on my webserver?

  • How do I get mercurial to show the diff during `hg com`?

    - by Kev
Is there a way to configure hg com so that in the commit message file that pops up in the external editor, instead of just showing which files were changed (in the HG: lines) it actually shows the full diff? I'd rather view the output and compose my commit message simultaneously from the comfort of my text editor as opposed to doing hg diff on the command line separately beforehand.

  • How to create sandbox in C# for external process?

    - by SuitUp
How to create sandbox in C# for external process? As sandbox i understand an environment for process i start from C#, that stop that process from interfering with anything else - kernel, system variables, system configuration, memory, registry, disk, hardware, location other than starting place and so on. I want place executable in one place and be sure that this place is only place that can be changed by this process. Additionaly, executable can be written in c, c++, c# etc.
