Windows Mobile Signature Capture and Barcode Scanning

Currently I have 7 Motorola MC75 Phones all running Windows Mobile 6.1 and using PTS Tracer Plus for signature capture and barcode scanning. After multiple returns with Motorola, and have verizon verify the data connections on all my phones in the field. I have found that PTS Tracer Plus 5, is the culprit in freezing and crashing before, during, and after signature collection. Does anyone know of another software package for Windows Mobile 6.1 that does signature capture and barcode scanning? I'm also going to try PTS Wireless 6 beta1 as well too, but I would like to know what other peopel are using successfully. Thanks!

Prevent ListBox from focusing but leave ListBoxItem(s) focusable (wpf)

Here is what happens: I have a listbox with items. Listbox has focus. Some item (say, 5th) is selected (has a blue background), but has no 'border'. When I press 'Down' key, the focus moves from ListBox to the first ListBoxItem. (What I want is to make 6th item selected, regardless of the 'border') When I navigate using 'Tab', the Listbox never receives the focus again. But when the collection is emptied and filled again, ListBox itself gets focus, pressing 'Down' moves the focus to the item. How to prevent ListBox from gaining focus? P.S. listBox1.SelectedItem is my own class, I don't know how to make ListBoxItem out of it to .Focus() it. Zoom on multiple areas in d3.js

I'm planning to have a geoJSON map inside my svg alongside other svg elements. I would like to be able to zoom (zoom+pan) in the map and keep the map in the same location with a bounding box. I can accomplish this by using a clipPath to keep the map within a rectangular area. The problem is that I also want to enable zooming and panning on my entire svg. If I do d3.select("svg").call(myzoom); this overrides any zoom I applied to my map. How can I apply zoom to both my entire svg and to my map? That is, I want to be able to zoom+pan on my map when my mouse is in the map's bounding box, and when the mouse is outside the bounding box, zoom+pan on the entire svg. Filtering in a HierarchicalDataTemplate via MarkupExtension?

I'm trying to create a MarkupExtension to allow filtering of items in an ItemsSource of a HierarchicalDataTemplate. In particular, I'd like to be able to supply a method name that will be executed on the DataContext in order to perform the filtering. I also see the call to the InternalConverter.Convert method, which sees the expected parameters (I see the collection provided by the nested {Binding}) and is successfully able to retrieve the ICollectionView for the incoming collection. The only problem is that FilterInternal never gets called. The template is ultimately being used by a TreeView, if that's relevant. I haven't been able to figure out why the FilterInternal method is not being called and I was hoping somebody might be able to offer some insight.

Optimum no./size partitions for Windows 7

I plan to install a 500GB drive in my notebook (HP dv2613tu/1.5gHz/4MB RAM) and need advice about optimum size and number of partitions to create. Ideally looking for the following: OS (Windows 7 Ultimate) Swap file Applications Data ??? As a long time Mac user I'm not nearly as informed about Windows. I could leave everything as a single partition, but am seeking maximum performance and efficiency from my system (which won't be changing anytime soon). So, would separate partitions help with this aim? And given my usual habit of accumulating stuff, I want to reserve most space for Applications and Data. I've also set myself a project over the next couple of years of digitizing the whole of my 35 y.o. collection of slides and photographs from my travelling days. Thanks. Pat. Mitchell

How do I use Sketchflow sample data for a ListBoxItem Template at design time?

I am using Expression Blend 4 and Visual Studio 2010 to create a Sketchflow prototype. I have a Sample Data collection and a ListBox that is bound to it. This displays as I would expect both at design time and at run time. However, the ListBoxItem template it just complex enough that I wanted to pull it out into its own XAML file. Even though the items still render as expected in the main ListBox where the template is used, when I open the template itself, all of the databound controls are empty. If I add a DataContext to the template, I can see and work with the populated objects while in the template, but then that local DataContext overrides the DataContext set on the listbox. A bit of code will illustrate. Start by creating a Sketchflow project (I am using Silverlight, but it should work the same for WPF), then add a project data source called SampleDataSource. Add a collection called ListData, with a single String property called Title. CentOS 5.5 APIC issue on ESX 4.1 & ML115

Hi, I've just installed vSphere 4.1 on an HP ProLiant ML115 G5 Quad-core and am trying to install CentOS 5.5 as a guest system. However, when the guest boots up I get a calibrate_APIC_clock warning and a kernel panic message. I've come across this knowledge base article on the vmware website which suggests moving the guest onto another Intel based host (!). Funnily enough I don't have a collection of spare host servers sitting around, so can anyone suggest another solution? Alternatively, would installing an earlier version of CentOS get around this issue, or would a yum update put me back to square one? How about BIOS settings, could anything be tweaked there? Thanks.

OS choice between: Debian, gNewSense, and OpenSolaris

I am planning to migrate from Mac OS X and Windows to either a Unix or Linux distribution, i.e. I am a Linux/Unix beginner. Right now the following caught my interest: Debian: Well established with huge repository of 20000+ apps. gNewSence: "Totally free" version of Ubuntu, so it should be more beginner friendly? OpenSolaris: Also open-source, and built on "strong" Unix base. I do mainly basic tasks such as web browsing, office work, maintaining big photo collection, and a little bit of programming. Questions: How "free" are each of these distributions compared to each other, is this whole freedom thing a big deal? Will a binary labeled as for Ubuntu work on gNewSense? What are simple IDEs for Debian and gNewSense?

I can not get any errors to display on screen on write to a log file. When check phpinfo() print out I have same value of master a local for display_errors On display_startup_errors On error_log /var/log/php.log error_reporting E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE log_errors On log_errors_max_len ls -l /var/log/php.log is -rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 Jun 21 07:47 /var/log/php.log for /var and /varlog drwxrwxrwx 23 root root 4096 Jun 2 11:13 var when there is an error in the code the page the browsers shows nothing and browser says there is no source for the page. Any suggestions of where else to look or change to errors to appear somewhere (anywhere would be good) edit: my error script is now <?php ini_set('display_errors', 1); error_reporting(E_ALL); echo "print from error.php 2 "; error //print from erroerror to cuase logging to happen. ?> this will print on display and to log Notice: Use of undefined constant error - assumed 'error' in /var/www/piku_dev2/error.php on line 7 but if I put garbage like #@$%$ on the error line I get nor error messages anywhere. Edit2: The problem turned out to in the httpd.conf file. I don't know what it was yet as it was fixed y someone else.

How can I print a batch of files with custom printer settings?

I have a collection of A3-size (tabloid size) PDF drawings which I would like to print as a batch. The particular printer I am using doesn't automatically check the paper size of the document - it always defaults to A4 (letter) size paper unless told otherwise. I need to go into the printer settings and tell the printer to use A3 size paper. A batch printing utility like DarkStorm's Batch Print Handler would be good for this. However this particular utility doesn't support changing the paper size settings or other printer settings. How can I go about batch printing these PDFs with a particular paper size?

Command line DVD to ISO ripper

I have an old XBOX with XBMC installed and I want to rip my dvd collection to my home server as ISO files so that I can watch them over the network. My server is headless (no monitor), so I need the software to run on Solaris, Linux or OpenBSD without X11 running. Does such a magical tool exist? I've seen vobcopy, but does that only work on VOBs? Since XBMC supports DVD menus and everything as though it was a straight disc, I'd rather have my backup work exactly as it does without needing my DVD.

This question is regarding using STSADM command to create new site collection in Active Directory Account creation mode. My setup is like this- I have 2 virtual PCs in a Windows XP Pro SP3 host. Both VPCs are Windows Server 2003 R2. One VPC acts as the DC, DNS Server, DHCP server, has Active Directory installed and is also the Database Server. The other VPC is the domain member and it is the IIS web server, POP/SMTP server and it has WSS 3.0 installed. I created a new site using the GUI in Central Admin page. Running OLEDB VB6 Windows Progam Under Wine

I'm trying to install a VB6 Windows program that uses OLEDB to access VFP tables to run under Wine 1.0.1 on Ubuntu 9.10. Wine is configured to Windows version Windows XP. The program install ran okay, and I used winetricks to install MDAC 2.8 and JET 4.0 sp7. I also installed Microsoft's vfpoledb and vfpodbc drivers. The application starts and displays an error message, item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

How to back up non-standard directories in my user profile with Windows Backup?

I'm using Windows Backup to back up my Win7 Pro laptop. I'd like to use it to back up my complete user profile, but I only see standard profile directories (e.g. C:\Users\JohnstonJ\Documents) in the list. Non-standard ones aren't there (e.g. C:\Users\JohnstonJ\MyCustomDirectory). What's the best way to handle this? The only thing I can think of is to browse under the "Computer" entry and navigate directly to C:\Users\JohnstonJ and check off the entire profile (to get what's in there, and any new directories that come up). But is that going to back up the profile twice? Cause other unforeseen problems given that I checked it off by navigating through the computer, rather than picking it under the "Data Files" category? (e.g. back up temporary file garbage, files in use problems, etc. that the "Data Files" category might be handling better). Looking for solutions that other people use that are known to work well and still uses the Windows Backup software - I don't really want to fuss with 3rd-party backup software. Does this file format exist?

Is there a file format that handles the following use case... I'd like to create a tar file (or whatever - I'm just using tar here b/c it's a well known file format for containing multiple files) that would be usable even if I only had access to specific chunks of said file. For example, say I tar up my mp3 and photo collection into a 100GB tar file, then put the file into some long term storage somewhere. Later, I want to access a specific mp3 file. I don't want to download the entire 100GB tar file just to get to one mp3. In fact, let's say I can't download the entire 100GB tar file. Instead, I'd like to say "give me megabytes 10 through 19 of the 100GB tar file" and then have the mp3 magically extracted from those 10 megabytes. Does a file format like this exist?

Changes to JBoss web.xml have no effect

I just added this to my web.xml on my JBOSS server. But it had no effect. I am still allowed to connect to ports that do not use bi-directional certificate exchange. Can't find instructions how to use Windows 7 drivers on Windows Server 2008 R2

Maybe I should post this to http://www.serverfault.com. Windows 7 comes with all sorts of signed drivers so there's high probability that all drivers for your machine will be installed during system setup. On the other hand Windows Server 2008 doesn't event though it's practically the same OS when it comes to drivers. But I know that this has a very good reason. It's a server product, not a desktop one. But the thing is that many power users and developers use server OS on their workstations which are normally desktop machines and would need Windows 7 driver spectrum... Question I know I've been reading about some trick on the internet that first installed Windows 7 on the machine, than do something to get either all Windows 7 driver collection or just those installed, and then install Windows Server 2008 and use those drivers. The thing is: I can't seem to find these instructions on the internet any more. If anybody knows where these are please provide the link for the rest of us.

Is it possible to a VM inside a VM (e.g., KVM on Vmware)?

I'd like to do some development on Eucalyptus, an open source project which provides an Amazon EC2 interface for launching virtual machine instances on a collection of privately managed nodes. I'd really like to be able to do some of the development on my desktop, rather than having to deploy Eucalyptus on our shared local cluster each time I make a change to the source code. (Especially since there are a group of us sharing that test cluster). Unfortunately, my desktop machine is a Mac, which won't run Eucalyptus natively. I do have VMWare Fusion, and it would be really nice if I could do my Eucalyptus testing inside a VMWare instance. The problem is, to test out Eucalyptus, it will have to launch (KVM or Xen) VM instances. I've got no idea if it's possible to actually launch a KVM or Xen instance inside a VMWare instance.

Is Cygwin the best unix environment for Windows?

Which unix like environment do you prefer on Windows? I have found Cygwin to be very comfortable for a windows platform (usually XP). I am wondering if there is a better alternative (not because I want to move away from Cygwin). What are the features of Cygwin that you like OR, What are features you find in alternatives that you miss in Cygwin? I am often miss binary compatibility of applications built on Cygwin. These cannot be run directly on another Windows platform. But, usually fetching a copy of cygwin1.dll suffices. A collection of other tools many of which work directly on the Windows subsystem rather than emulating unix, like Cygwin does. Have been referred PowerShell a lot of times for scripting on Windows Earlier, UnixUtils was suggested more often Microsoft Windows Services for Unix

SharePoint Item Edit Form (editform.aspx) keeps closing webparts - MOSS 2007

We have a custom list within MOSS 2007 which sporadically closes the edit forms web part, despite the fact that the web parts property 'allow close' is unticked. The only way to make the form work again is to edit the page in SharePoint Designer and untick the option of 'web part closed', this then allows the form to function but at a seemingly random interval it will close itself again. There is quite a large user base accessing the site/list at anyone time, also note this has happened once on another list on another site collection. Has anyone else experienced this issue before or can offer any advice?

Where can I find a useful Unicode fallback font for Mac OS X?

On every browser I've tried (Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Omniweb), when I go to a web page containing somewhat less-common characters, I can't see the glyphs. For example, on the Wikipedia page for the Bengali Language, the very first line contains a string of squares; on Windows, I can see the Bengali writing. On Windows, as long as I have the Arial Unicode MS font installed, these characters fall back to that font and display properly. Mac OS X doesn't seem to ship with a font containing these Unicode characters (it has Arial Unicode MS, but it must be a subset of the Windows version because Bengali doesn't display in that font). I checked on my Snow Leopard DVD and I installed "Additional Fonts" from the Optional Installs package, but I'm still missing many languages. Is there any good, free font that contains a large collection of languages? I know creating fonts is difficult and time-consuming, but it seems like including at least one font like this with operating systems should be standard by now.

To All Experts here, I'd like to perform a MOSS server content migration from the existing single instance server (SQL Server 2008, Windows Server 2008, SharePoint 2007 SP1) all in one and by maintaining the server name only, here's what I had in my migration plan document outline: I have created the new Windows Server 2008 R2 + SQL Server 2008 SP1 and MOSS 2007 SP2 after that: Backup MOSS_ContentDB from SQL Server 2008 SSMS (does this enough to cover all top level sites and its content in the library and doc. repository ?) Backup all top level sites from CA site using the CA Sites backup and restore tools. turn off the old MOSSDEV01 (current server) rename the existing server (TempServ01) into MOSSDEV01 (so that the user bookmark and other link inside MOSS site still working) perform restore of the DB restore the site collection and its content from the backup is that the correct way to do it ? I haven't execute the server configuration wizard to create the same port number of the SSP, CA and the SQL Server DB yet. Any idea and suggestion would be greatly appreciated Thanks.

I am trying to do dynamic portforwarding using openssh through a remote computer following this command: ssh -D 6789 rohan@<remote_ip> -p <remote_port> This should set up a socks server on my comp as I assume. I am able to use this for normal browsing but can't connect to IRC or remote ssh (through proxychains).
