  Hello, Cant really find any useful information on this through Google so hope someone here with some knowledge can help. I have a set of results which are pulled from a multi dimensional array. Currently the array key is the price of a product whilst the item contains another array which contains all the product details. key=>Item(name=>test, foo=>bar) So currently when I list the items I just order by the key, smallest first and it lists the products smallest price first. However I want to build on this so that when a user sees the results they can choose other ordering options like list all products by a name, certain manufacturer, colour, x ,y ,z etc etc from a drop down box(or something similar) This is where I need some guidance. Im just not sure how to go about it or best practise or anything. The only way I can think of is to order all the items by the nested array eg by the name, manufacturer etc. but how do I do that in PHP? Hope you understand what im trying to achieve(if not just ask). Any help on this with ideas, approaches or examples would be great. Thanks for reading p.s Im using PHP5

• Running a Silverlight application in the Google App Engine platform

  This post shows you how to host a Silverlight application in the Google App Engine (GAE) platform. You deploy and host your Silverlight application on Google’s infrastructure by creating a configuration file and uploading it along with your application files. I tested this by uploading an old demo of mine - the four stroke engine silverlight demo. It is currently being served by the GAE over here: http://fourstrokeengine.appspot.com/ The steps to run your Silverlight application in GAE are as follows: Account Creation Create an account at http://appengine.google.com/. You are allocated a free quota at signup. Select “Create an Application”   Verify your account by SMS   Create your application by clicking on “Create an Application”   Pick an application identifier on the next screen. The identifier has to be unique. You will use this identifier when uploading your application. The application you create will by default be accessible at [applicationidentifier].appspot.com. You can also use custom domains if needed (refer to the docs).   Save your application. Download SDK  We will use the  Windows Launcher for Google App Engine tool to upload our apps (it is possible to do the same through command line). This is a GUI for creating, running and deploying applications. The launcher lets you test the app locally before deploying it to the GAE. This tool is available in the Google App Engine SDK. The GUI is written in Python and therefore needs an installation of Python to run. Download and install the Python Binaries from here: http://www.python.org/download/ Download and install the Google App Engine SDK from here: http://code.google.com/appengine/downloads.html Run the GAE Launcher. Select Create New Application.   On the next dialog, give your application a name (this must match the identifier we created earlier) For Parent Directory, point to the directory containing your Silverlight files. Change the port if you want to. The port is used by the GAE local web server. The server is started if you choose to run the application locally for testing purposes. Hit Save. You will be prompted for your username and password. Hit OK. The files will get uploaded and you should get a dialog telling you to “close the window”. We are done uploading our Silverlight application. • Finding good heuristic for A* search

  I'm trying to find the optimal solution for a little puzzle game called Twiddle (an applet with the game can be found here). The game has a 3x3 matrix with the number from 1 to 9. The goal is to bring the numbers in the correct order using the minimum amount of moves. In each move you can rotate a 2x2 square either clockwise or counterclockwise. I.e. if you have this state 6 3 9 8 7 5 1 2 4 and you rotate the upper left 2x2 square clockwise you get 8 6 9 7 3 5 1 2 4 I'm using a A* search to find the optimal solution. My f() is simply the number of rotations need. My heuristic function already leads to the optimal solution but I don't think it's the best one you can find. My current heuristic takes each corner, looks at the number at the corner and calculates the manhatten distance to the position this number will have in the solved state (which gives me the number of rotation needed to bring the number to this postion) and sums all these values. I.e. You take the above example: 6 3 9 8 7 5 1 2 4 and this end state 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 then the heuristic does the following 6 is currently at index 0 and should by at index 5: 3 rotations needed 9 is currently at index 2 and should by at index 8: 2 rotations needed 1 is currently at index 6 and should by at index 0: 2 rotations needed 4 is currently at index 8 and should by at index 3: 3 rotations needed h = 3 + 2 + 2 + 3 = 10 But there is the problem, that you rotate 4 elements at once. So there a rare cases where you can do two (ore more) of theses estimated rotations in one move. This means theses heuristic overestimates the distance to the solution. My current workaround is, to simply excluded one of the corners from the calculation which solves this problem at least for my test-cases. I've done no research if really solves the problem or if this heuristic still overestimates in same edge-cases. So my question is: What is the best heuristic you can come up with? (Disclaimer: This is for a university project, so this is a bit of homework. But I'm free to use any resource if can come up with, so it's okay to ask you guys. Also I will credit Stackoverflow for helping me ;) )

  I am re-writing the SQL which lets a user search for any other user on our site and also shows their roles. An an example, roles can be "Writer", "Editor", "Publisher". Each role links a User to a Publication. Users can take multiple roles within multiple publications. Example table setup: "users" : user_id, firstname, lastname "publications" : publication_id, name "link_writers" : user_id, publication_id "link_editors" : user_id, publication_id Current psuedo SQL: SELECT * FROM ( (SELECT user_id FROM users WHERE firstname LIKE '%Jenkz%') UNION (SELECT user_id FROM users WHERE lastname LIKE '%Jenkz%') ) AS dt JOIN (ROLES STATEMENT) AS roles ON roles.user_id = dt.user_id At the moment my roles statement is: SELECT dt2.user_id, dt2.publication_id, dt.role FROM ( (SELECT 'writer' AS role, link_writers.user_id, link_writers.publication_id FROM link_writers) UNION (SELECT 'editor' AS role, link_editors.user_id, link_editors.publication_id FROM link_editors) ) AS dt2 The reason for wrapping the roles statement in UNION clauses is that some roles are more complex and require a table join to find the publication_id and user_id. As an example "publishers" might be linked accross two tables "link_publishers": user_id, publisher_group_id "link_publisher_groups": publisher_group_id, publication_id So in that instance, the query forming part of my UNION would be: SELECT 'publisher' AS role, link_publishers.user_id, link_publisher_groups.publication_id FROM link_publishers JOIN link_publisher_groups ON lpg.group_id = lp.group_id I'm pretty confident that my table setup is good (I was warned off the one-table-for-all system when researching the layout). My problem is that there are now 100,000 rows in the users table and upto 70,000 rows in each of the link tables. Initial lookup in the users table is fast, but the joining really slows things down. How can I only join on the relevant roles? -------------------------- EDIT ---------------------------------- Explain above (open in a new window to see full resolution). The bottom bit in red, is the "WHERE firstname LIKE '%Jenkz%'" the third row searches WHERE CONCAT(firstname, ' ', lastname) LIKE '%Jenkz%'. Hence the large row count, but I think this is unavoidable, unless there is a way to put an index accross concatenated fields? The green bit at the top just shows the total rows scanned from the ROLES STATEMENT. You can then see each individual UNION clause (#6 - #12) which all show a large number of rows. Some of the indexes are normal, some are unique. It seems that MySQL isn't optimizing to use the dt.user_id as a comparison for the internal of the UNION statements. Is there any way to force this behaviour? Please note that my real setup is not publications and writers but "webmasters", "players", "teams" etc.

• fitbounds() in Google maps api V3 does not fit bounds

  hi, I'm using the geocoder from Google API v3 to display a map of a country. I get the recommended viewport for the country but when I want to fit the map to this viewport, it does not work (see the bounds before and after calling the fitBounds function in the code below). What am I doing wrong? • ASP.NET ReportViewer Google Chrome CPU usage

  Hello, We have found an interesting issue between ASP.NET 3.5 and ReportViewer with Google Chrome. Our set of pages work fine until a ReportViewer control displays a report. Google Chrome then eats up 50% of the CPU doing nothing it seems. I've extracted the ReportViewer control to a blank Web Forms project to confirm its that control and not a rogue bit of my code. I'm using ReportViewer in local mode (RDLC file) so I presume its the 2005 version? Anyone seen this before and have a solution?   Hi All, This is probably something really simple, however I am quite new to PHP, and havent done any HTML in years. I need to get a PHP variable filled with an array of figures into Google Charts. My code for this so far is: <img src="http://chart.apis.google.com/chart? &chs=340x175 &chd=t:<?=$filedetail[1]?> &cht=lc &chtt=Test "> However, Google reports an error, as it stops at the ?=$filedetail[1] for some reason. • z-Index overlay in google maps version 3

  Hi, I'm trying to get an overlay in google maps api v3 to appear above all markers. But it seems that the google api always put my overlay with lowest z-index priority. Only solution i've found is to iterate up through the DOM tree and manually set z-index to a higher value. Poor solution. By default whenever someone logs into their google Apps account they pretty much are logged into the application. For every action taken by a registered login in user I store the user ID of that signed in user whenever an update is made in the database. However the google apps user sign in process is different in this respect that there isn't anything visible as a user ID for me to work with. Any ideas?

  Hi guys I'm developing a collaboration system and our team has been at it for the past couple of years. However the boss suggested that we try and redevelop it using something robust. Basically our collaboration system incorporates a webmail client and a custom built contacts management system plus project management system. My boss likes the robustness of GMAIL and Google docs and really would like a solution that if possible could incorporate these two and other google applications - I'm not so sure how to get started on developing a custom application using google applications - especially consider the fact that in the long run we wish to host our collaboration system as a paid service - just like the services that 37signals basecamp and highrise have been.

I found a lot of posts about this, and I tried all kinds of things like eval(), but also: $.getJSON('http://maps.google.com/maps/api/geocode/jsonaddress=Karachi&sensor=false&output=json&callback=?', function(data){ //eval("("+data+")"); alert(data); } ); Same result. Also, other json data works fine, for instance flickr ("http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?tags=cat&tagmode=any&format=json&jsoncallback=?). So it has something to do with the Google Maps API output i guess.. Thanks in advance.

  I have an online application that all of its pages use HTTPS. I have 3 questions: Does Google index HTTPS pages? I have a password protected single ASP.NET page (using HTTPS). Password protection is basically achieved by a Session object. When the correct password is entered, it hides the login panel and displays the same page which has a sensitive data. Is this page indexed by Google? I have a Secure folder that I implemented Forms Authentication. All pages in folder use HTTPS as well. Are the pages in this folder indexed by Google? • Using Google Spreadsheet API on Blackberry

  I am trying to build a Google spreadsheet synchronization feature on a blackberry application that I am building. Not being a pro I was hunting for some sample code to get a grasp of the flow but I could not. When I am using the API from Google to access spreadsheets, it suggests to use the SpreadsheetService class. try{ SpreadsheetService service = new SpreadsheetService ("MRythm"); service.setUserCredentials("username", "password"); service.getFeed(new URL(""), arg1) }catch(Exception e){ } Now the problem is J2ME or Blackberry does not feature the URL class from java.net library. • Google search result redirecting to tinyurl4.info

  When you google for these keywords: crtaci.info First result is my site, www.crtaci.info. Now, i have no idea what is happening, but when you click on that search result sometimes it redirects you to tinyurl4.info: I know in this image user is using IE, but both me on win7 and firefox and IE8 and my buddy on linux(and some browsers i have never heard of) both tested this and we got redirected to this site. But only once. Now when i do that again, it opens up my site. What the hell is going on? Please advise what to do! :( Maybe i should open this on serverfoult, i dont know... :( UPDATE: This only seems to be happening when you do this for the first time in your browser. Next time you do it it is ok. I have opened up chrome, which i only use for testing and did these steps: open google.com search for crtaci.info click on first result i get redirected open google.com again search for crtaci.info again it works fine now

• Google Translate Widget fails in Firefox

  I am attempting to implement the Google Translate Widget where you include a piece of javascript code into your page and it gives you a language dropdown. This was very straightforward however, it does not work in Firefox. It works in IE, Safari, Chrome. Has anybody experience this problem and is there any workaround? With some research, it seems that people said that it used flash. However, I don't have any flashblock installed or anything like that. • Problem with javascript in firefox when moving google ads

  hi. i have a website with google ads on it. i would like to make it load faster. thus i moved all the google scripts to the bottom of the page. i also have a placeholder at the location where the ad(s) should be displayed and other divs that (initially) get the ads. finally (in window.onload) i'm moving the ads that have just be fetched from google to their target locations. (a simple example page is here: http://www.nickles.de/temp/ads.html ) this works in ie, but it doesn't work in ff. (that is, in firefox, non-text ads show up fine, while text-ads don't. [or at least, not in a reliable way.]) any ideas what would be causing this? Thanks! -thomas woelfer

  Hi I'm using Google's Geocoder to find lat lng coordinates for a given address. var geocoder = new google.maps.Geocoder(); geocoder.geocode( { 'address': address, 'region': 'uk' }, function(results, status) { if(status == google.maps.GeocoderStatus.OK) { lat: results[0].geometry.location.lat(), lng: results[0].geometry.location.lng() }); address variable is taken from an input field. I want to search locations only in UK. I thought that specifying 'region': 'uk' should be enough but it's not. When I type in "Boston" it founds Boston in US and I wanted the one in UK. How to restrict Geocoder to return locations only from one country or maybe from a certain lat lng range? Thanks

• Google Maps, Ruby on Rails, Zoom level with one marker

  I am adding google maps support with apneadiving / Google-Maps-for-Rails (thanks awesome gem) I am finding one slight glitch, however, which very likely is my fault. auto_zoom works great when there are multiple markers. However, when there is only one marker it is zoomed in to the max level which is not pretty. "zoom" will only work when auto_zoom is false, so that's not what I want. So therefore you could use "maxZoom" but now users cannot zoom in manually beyond that point which is not what I want. Is there a way around this? Is my explanation making sense? Is this a limitation of Google Maps API? Thanks...
