• Sending SMS with GSM phone\modem using Objective C

  Hi Im new with Objective C but a veteran of C# & VB.Net. Is there an available API or functionality in cocoa where i can communicate with my GSM Phone to listen to any incoming SMS messages and be able to send messages myself. I'm trying to build an application for OSX SnowLeopard that can do this. Under the windows platform there are available API's that i can use to do this job for me. I just need hook up my mobile phone into my PC, configure the API to communicate with the phone thru one of the available COM Ports used by the device. Your help is very much appreciated. • hidden row causing issue with tablesorter zebra striping

  Sorry if this has already been solved elsewhere but my searches have been able to turn up nothing and my attempts at solving the issue myself have made even less progress. :P Put quite simply I have a table that is using the jquery tablesorter and it's zebra widget. In this table there is a hidden column. I've so far been able to make it so that when a tr contains specific text (I was aiming for * but was seemingly unable to get \* to work for whatever reason...and I suspect my selector is perhaps not specific enough) the containing row is set not to display by ".hide()". The problem I am having though is when the row is hidden, tablesorter does exactly what it should do and stripes all the rows their specific colours based on their odd and even values. Of course .remove doesn't do the trick either as the table still sees some funny striping. Any thoughts on how to make it so that when a row is hidden, the striping compensates?

  Hi out there, my challenge is to built a video portal, based on wordpress (blog already started). so in the backend there must be a option to add, tag, descripe videos and in frontend the videos must have a comment function, must be searchable and so on. wordpress gives already a large amout of functionallity and i want to use this, comments for example, but also categorisation and tagging. what is the best practise to built such a "plugin" ? where to start? what to use? custom tables and built everything by myself or can i use the blog functionallity to advantage? hopefully everything is clear, comment if not ;)

• Visual Studio add-in to quickly test a code snippet

  One thing I really love about languages such as Python is that if you have a piece of code you'd like to try out, you can just open the interactive shell and do it in seconds. Is there a Visual Studio add-in that does the same for C#? Basically what I'm looking for is something that opens up a window or tab with a text editor (preferably with code completion, because VS does it so nicely) and a button that runs the code and displays the output. Extra points for convenience features such as displaying complex output in a user-friendly way (think Firebug's console.log), automatically referencing all the assemblies the current project references, etc. I tried googling for a while, but either I fail at coming up with good keywords, or no-one has made an add-in like this. If there really is none, I'm considering making one myself.

• Using the Facebook Graph APIs PHP library

  I am using the PHP library for the Graph API (http://github.com/facebook/php-sdk) but am a bit confused about how it is all working (or not). I just want to authenticate the user and get the user ID back. What I really want to know is what to do once the user has logged in to Facebook and returned to my site. There is data called 'session' in the URL. Does this need to be stored in order to continually get the user ID? It is really not apparent, to me, from the samples or (lack of) documentation. Also, would it be easier to just cut out the PHP library altogether and just handle the reponse myself, storing it in a session variable. If i were to do this, what is the best method of getting/extracting the current users ID?

• Does anyone have any EPiServer Exam Tips?

  Myself and some colleagues have just been told that we are all taking the EPiServer CMS certification exam on Friday. Having done some research on the web it does sound like a challenging exam - I've heard that only one in six people pass it. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of learning material, beyond what is described on the EPiServer site, this blog post and this blog post. Has anyone else out there passed recently and if so can they provide any hints or tips? Any help would be appreciated.

• How to transfer SQLite db to web server

  Hi, I have an application that creates an SQLite database and saves information to it over the course of a day. At the end of the day i want to export this database to a web server. Could anyone point me in the right direction for this? Should I use httppost or put. I have researched this myself online but there seems to be so many different ways to explore. The server side does not exist yet either. I have access to an apache server so i am hoping to use that. Could anyone advise me the best/most simple way to do this? Thanks

• How can I make Outlook 2007 auto BCC messages to a specific email with specific words in subject usi

  So far I have this code from outlookcode.com which I can get to work sending all emails I send to the BCC email. I am not a developer, so I don't have a lot of context to go about editing this myself, or even approaching researching this. If anyone knows how to make this check for words in the subject, or check if the subject equals a certain string, I'd really appreciate it. • pubsub link with Project Rome

  I want to use Project Rome to create an RSS feed, using the code from the tutorial as base. I would like to add a pubsubhubbub discovery link, but there doesn't seem to be a general way to do so. I can use a Link object if I create an atom feed (which I don't want to limit myself to), or I can just add foreign markup, like this: // import org.jdom.Element Element element = new Element("link"); element.setAttribute("rel", "hub"); element.setAttribute("href", "https://myhub.example.com/endpoint"); feed.setForeignMarkup(Arrays.asList(element)); But it feels ugly. • Do you have a development IDE hotkey set in AutoHotkey?

  I've recently rejoined the AutoHotkey band wagon, and I've been setting up a master script for myself. Generally, I have a few global hotkeys, for doing things like popping open the calculator, and frequently used solutions. I even have a hotkey to restart certain local windows services, I've also got several contextual hotkeys that are only available when certain programs are active, but I don't have anything so far for my common IDE's. I generally develop in VS2008/2010 these days and they have a pretty robust shortcut and code snippet system. Still, I can't help but wonder if anyone out there has come up with a useful set of hotkeys/hotstrings in AutoHotKey for their favorite development environments? I haven't seen much out there, but I'm always interested in ways to cut back my mundane tasks with automation. Does anyone have any AutoHotkey scripts they use primarily for development?

• What is the correct way to import and export out of Excel to SQL Server and back?

  Looking for the correct way and control to import and export of out of Microsoft Excel programmatically. I am willing to get a 3rd party control that supports this functionality, or I can create it myself, but looking to get this prioject done fast. The Datasource will be offline. Although when it is online for the upload/download if there is a control that would merge them, that would work also. But best is to remain offline, don't need the support headache. Security is also an issue. SSIS is not available on the shared database server. The website that hosts the asp.net application is not on the same machine as the sql server. Thank you.

  Hi All, I see a lot of questions on SO that are asked about 'good' programmers vs 'bad' programmers. For example, what is a good/bad programmer, how to tell a good/bad programmer, what to do about a bad programmer on a team, how to hire a good programmer. I know it's pretty easy to apply the words to other people, but I find myself wondering if anyone out there would actually define THEMSELVES in a Boolean fashion like this, rather than "good in some areas, weak in others..." I'm not asking as an either/or where you have to be one or the other, but as a 'both' - are you a good or bad programmer? If so (either one), why? Please note this isn't meant to be argumentative, or to define good/bad practices, etc. I just want to know how many people think they are good, bad, or neither out there.

• Howto specify format of Restlet-response in browser?

  Hello everybody, i've started to introduce myself into REST. I use as REST-framework Restlet. I have defined a resource with methods for the GET with several response formats like @Get("xml") @Get("json") I now want to test my defined response-formats with my browser, but I don't know which parameter I have to specify in my URL to get the format. Something like: http://localhost:8182/members?type=xml I've tried some param-names, but I couldn't find the right param-name. I know that there must be such a parameter, because I've seen it already in an URL, but i forgot the name and couldn't find it in the net. How is the name of this parameter when using restlet? I would be pleased, if somebody can help me, thanks, Martin

• VS2010 + Resharper 5 performance issues

  I have been using VS2010 with Resharper 5 for several weeks and am having a performance issue. Sometimes when typing, the cursor will lag and the keystrokes won't show instantaneously. Also, scrolling will lag at times. There is a forum thread started and JetBrains has been responding. Several people (including myself) have added their voice and uploaded some performance profiles. If anyone here has has this issue, I would encourage you to visit the thread and let JetBrains know about it. Has anyone had this problem and have a suggestion to restore performance?

• Push notification not working for the production environment

  I have spent a whole day on this already but still didn't go anywhere. When I run my app in the development mode, I can get the push messages I send to myself thru PushMeBaby without a problem. However, when I try to test it in the production environment, I cannot get any push. I re-generated all the certificates and provisioning profiles, used the aps_production_identity.cer as the certificate for push, changed the ssl to gateway.push.apple.com, and did a release build for the app, but still couldn't get it to work. I found that in PushMeBaby, the line result = SSLHandshake(context); returns error -9844. Does it mean that something is wrong with the aps_production_identity.cer file? This is driving me nuts, can somebody offer a little help? Much appreciated!!!

  I am planning a small, simple website to showcase myself as an engineer. My preferred language is Python and I hope to use it to create my website. My pages will be mostly static, with some database stored posts/links. The site will be simple, but I would like to have freedom in how it operates. I plan on using CSS/JS for the design, so I really just need an easy way to throw a small amount of content around. Some frameworks I have come across: Flask cherry.py Pinax Are there any suggestions? Does anyone have any experience with Python on small/hobby websites?

• JavaScript-like Object in Python standard library?

  Quite often, I find myself wanting a simple, "dump" object in Python which behaves like a JavaScript object (ie, its members can be accessed either with .member or with ['member']). Usually I'll just stick this at the top of the .py: class DumbObject(dict): def __getattr__(self, attr): return self[attr] def __stattr__(self, attr, value): self[attr] = value But that's kind of lame, and there is at least one bug with that implementation (although I can't remember what it is). So, is there something similar in the standard library? • What's the best way to paginate a dataset with Zend_Framework and Doctrine?

  Before I start to build this myself I thought I'd ask others to share their experience. What's the best / your favorite way to paginate a dataset with an application built upon Zend_Framework and Doctrine as your ORM? I'm new to Doctrine. I'm calling the model directly from a View Helper, bypassing the Controller, although I'm still interested if your solution uses controllers. • Keycodes of function keys with F-lock off?

  Many recent keyboard from Microsoft and Logitech have a so-called F-Lock key, which toggles the function keys F1 to F12 between their traditional keycodes and new meanings that are printed onto the keys: F1=Help F2=Undo F3=Redo F4=Open ... . (See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-Lock.) This means that long-established shortcuts such as Alt+F4 no longer work if the F-lock is off, and googling shows that quite a few people are unhappy about this. So I'm wondering, what virtual key (VK) codes do the function keys send when F-lock is off? VK_F13 to VK_F24 perhaps? Or do they not trigger standard keyboard events at all? (I haven't got such a keyboard to try and find out myself, and didn't manage to dig up anything on MSDN about this.)

• Choose a local file w/o uploading the chosen file

  I am making a simple development tool for myself using PHP on my local development server. I would like a way to have a simple file-chooser to select a file without uploading it, but just retaining the file path. This is useful, because I will be the only one using the tool, and so PHP will have access to the chosen file without having it uploaded. My first thought is to have a <input type="file"...>, but as far as I know, there's no way to prevent the upload from happening. Is there a way to do this?

• Customized sorting on DataTable in C#?

  This is a C# Winform question. I have a DataGridView which is bounded to a DataTable. I construct the DataTable myself, which several DataColumn instances. When the DataTable is bound to the DataGridView, by default, every column is sortable by clicking the headers of the DataGridView. But the sorting behavior is something "by default". It seems that it is sorted by string. This is true even if I put this as my code: DataColumn dc = new DataColumn("MyObjectColumn", typeof(MyObject)); And MyObject has overriden ToString() and has implemented the IComparable interface. That means even if I have told the DataTable how to sort the special column with the implementation of IComparable interface, DataGridView still doesn't do it the way I expect. So how can I let DataTable sort data in the way I want? Thanks for the answers.

  This tutorial on mobileorchard.com uses 2 classes (or 2 sets of .h and .m) to implement core location. Can I just use everything there in my existing class? How would I do that? Also, is the - (id) init { self = [super init]; if (self != nil) { self.locationManager = [[[CLLocationManager alloc] init] autorelease]; self.locationManager.delegate = self; // send loc updates to myself } return self; } method the same as the usual initWithNib? • Groovy MetaClass - Add category methods to appropriate metaClasses

  I have several categories that I use in my Grails plugin. e.g., class Foo { static foo(ClassA a,Object someArg) { ... } static bar(ClassB b,Object... someArgs) { ... } } I'm looking for the best way to add these methods to the meta-classes so that I don't have to use the category classes and can just invoke them as instance methods. e.g., aInstance.foo(someArg) bInstance.bar(someArgs) Is there a Groovy/Grails class or method that will help me do this or am I stuck iterating through the methods and adding them all myself?

• PHP's apache_setenv function causes 500 Internal Server Error

  apache_setenv ( 'no-gzip', 1 ) I'm trying to disable gzip for a certain page's output, but only that page. This works fine on testing servers, but not the production server, which is running the same thing (CentOS and Apache), works on Ubuntu though. Anyway, do you know why? Or is there some other alternative? I was thinking of using ob_start () to put all output in a buffer, and then unzip it myself with a PHP function then call ob_end_flush ()... or would it not be gzipped until right before Apache sends it to the client? • How to add class to openframeworks project in VS2012

  I am normally a C# guy but trying to get into c++. I made myself a new openframeworks project by copying and pasting one of the example projects and then renaming everything to my project name. (If there is an easier way, I would love to hear it) This project has the .cpp and .h files in a sub folder called "src" which are in turn organized into virtual folders (filters???) in visual studio. How can I add a class to this project from within visual studio? If I right click on the src filter in the solution explorer and hit add class. It creates the class files at the root of the project not in the src folder. I mean it does this both in the solution explorer and where it physically places the files. This is a problem because I can't include my class files in the rest of my app, presumably because they aren't in the same folder What is the proper way to add a class file?
