• Best practice to display POI in iPhone's MapKit?

  Assuming I have a database of POI with their respective coordinates (longitude & latitude). What would be the "standard" way to display the POI as annotations around the user's current location? To elaborate: Given a zoom level, I guess I have to search through the database for all POI whose distance to the current location < a certain threshold, then create annotations for them. Or is there any smarter way? If the user zooms in/out, moves the map... I will need to redo the whole thing again? It seems that MapKit has a mechanism to cache/reuse annotations. Should I create a lot of them right away and let MapKit decides what to render when the visible region changes? I guess this would make the transition smoother, but also consumes more memory. What is your experience with this? Thanks.

  I have a shared object ( libxyz.so ). Given LD_LIBRARY_PATH, how can find the exact location of this shared object? If i had a binary that depends on this lib, i would have used ldd on that. Here is the reason why i ask: I have a cgi script which works when using LD_LIBRARY_PATH set to say VALUE1. It does not work when the path is set to VALUE2. I would like to find the exact location of the library as specified by the path in VALUE1 ( Note that VALUE1 has almost 20+ different locations ) Platform: Linux

• VB6 App + .Net component working as compiled app but not in VB6 IDE

  I have a VB6 App that uses a .Net component (via a .tlb reference in the VB6 app) which is working fine when executed as a compiled app, but it produces an error from the VB6 IDE a certain point when it is trying to use the .NET component. I should note that the error occurs when the .NET component is meant to be invoking a third party reporting component. What could the problem be? Could the VB6 IDE be looking in a different location for certain DLLs? The .tlb is in the same location as the application executable so I don't why there should be a problem. I need to have the application running in the IDE in order to debug and step through the code.

• Remove Duplicates from LEFT OUTER JOIN

  Hey folk my question is quite similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/757957/restricting-a-left-join I have a variation in that request though and the comment didn't allow too many characters hence posting as a new question. I hope this doesn't go against the posting rules/etiquette. Assuming i have a table SHOP and another table LOCATION. Location is a sort of child table of table SHOP, that has two columns of interest, one is a Division Key (calling it just KEY) and a "SHOP" number. This matches to the Number "NO" in table SHOP. I tried this left outer join: SELECT S.NO, L.KEY FROM SHOP S LEFT OUTER JOIN LOCATN L ON S.NO = L.SHOP But i'm getting a lot of duplicates since there are many locations that belong to a single shop. I want to eliminate them and just get a list of "shop, key" entries without duplicates. any ideas how? (edit: ORACLE 10g Database)

• Uploadify works for Visual Studio but not for IIS 7(same machines), using Forms authentication. Doe

  I'm using the Uploadify jQuery control for client-side uploads. I think my IIS 7 configuration has issues with it. The uploadify POST immediately returns a HTTP 1.1 302 Found, back to my login page. I've tried to allow anonymous access to the uploading section(subfolder) plus the page(script) that processes the image in the web.config, using the location node(configuration ... location). Seems like the Uploadify post is immediately blocked. Again, this worked fine just using Visual Studio 2008, but when I run the site on the same machine I get the redirect. Your thoughts/ideas are very welcomed!

  Alright, I have an issue with the following code. What happens is when a user closes their browser, it should prompt them to either click OK or click CANCEL to leave the page. Clicking OK would trigger a window.location to redirect to another page for user tracking (and yes, to avoid flame wars, there is a secondary system in place to assure accurate tracking, in the event of the user killing the browser from the task manager (as mentioned in similar questions)). CANCEL would remain on the page, the issue being that no matter what button you hit, you get redirected as if you wanted to leave the page. • progressIndicator does not update till about 10 seconds after awakeFromNib occures

  I have been trying to get this one section of my UI to immediatly up date when the document loads into view. The awakeFromNib fires the pasted code and then starts a timer to repeat every 10 seconds... I load a default storage location: ~/Movies... which shows up immediately.. yet the network location that is saved in the document that gets pulled from the XML only seems to show up after the second firing of the - (void)updateDiskSpaceDisplay timer. I have set breakpoints and know that the ivars that contain the values that are being put into the *fileSystemAttributes is the network location right when the awakeFromNib occurs... • MkMapView setRegion animation prevents touch events on Annotation Views

We have a MKmapView with a bunch of Image Annotation where each Image annotation responds to touch by overriding these methods of AnnotationView subclass: -(void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event; -(void) touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event Our map region is updated using [MkMapView setRegion:animated:] whenever the new location is received and is far enough from the old location to make a difference. What I noticed is that if we set animated flag to YES the touches on our annotation are rarely detected(probably due to the fact that main thread is busy animating between two map regions. When we set animated flag to NO, everything is fine, but map transition may(or may not) become jerky. The question I have is whether this is an expected behavior of animated flag of [MkMapView setRegion:animated] function or whether there is a workaround for this issue. Thanks in advance

As it turns out the original answer wasn't definitive and problems were found. ======================================================================= In my app, I access my sqlite database at the following hard-coded location in my code: /data/data/com.mydomain.appname/databases/database.db If I turn ON copy protection in the Market Place, will my app still have access to this location? Or will I have to change it to something like: */data-private/*data/com.mydomain.appname/databases/database.db (or something like this) Since I have a Dev phone only, I have no way of testing to see if my app still functions normally after turning on copy protection. • luntbuild + maven + findbugs = OutOfMemoryException

  Hi, I've been trying to get Luntbuild to generate and publish a project site for our project including a Findbugs report. All other reports (Cobertura, Surefire, JavaDoc, Dashboard) work fine, but Findbugs bails out with an OutOfMemoryException. Excluding findbugs from report generation fixes the build --- although obviously without a Findbugs report. The funny thing is that I first encountered this problem locally and solved it by setting MAVEN_OPTS=-Xmx512m. This does not seem to be enough in Luntbuild, however: setting that exact same option as an environment variable of my builder doesn't make a difference. I've found a couple of posts on the 'net stating you should also add -XX:MaxPermSize=512m to MAVEN_OPTS and/or pass -Dmaven.findbugs.jvmargs=-Xmx512m to mvn.bat. None of these (or their combination) seem to help though so any hints would be greatly appreciated!   In my winform app in VB.NET I want to use the localization option. But i have a few questions/problems. I'm using a menu strip to select an other language. But it seems that is doesn't change my menustip text to my selected language. It does change my labels, buttons, and textboxes but menu strips don't seem to change when I choose another language. Also is it possible to get those resx files such as MyForm.fr-FR.resx compiled so it isn't an external file outside my app? Or to get those files in an Language folder at the same location of my app, so i don't have all those fr-FR, nl-Nl folders in the same location as my program?

  Has anyone had the experience of moving a file in tortoise and committing successfully, only to later commit a different change and be told of a tree conflict where: the file in its original location has been deleted, but in tortoise is marked as missing the file in its new location is there, but marked as already added. (I use tortoise SVN, and we have client and server 1.60) Nobody else changed either the directory or the file (according to svn log). Why is this happening? Is there a way to avoid it happening? If it does happen, is there a more elegant way of fixing the problem than by deleting the whole folder and updating again?

• Dynamic Overlays slowing down Google Maps (Android 2.1) on Nexus One

  Hi, I'm trying to create a dynamic ItemizedOverylay (please see the code below) on Google Maps (Android 2.1) on a Nexus One. In my Activity (that extends MapActivity) I'm creating a data thread that is receiving data from the network. A 'handler' is used to communicate the data from the receiving thread to map activity. This data contains the locations (lat, lon) of the markers that I want to overlay on my map. The location of each marker is dynamic (i.e., it changes every time I receive new data from the network.) refreshItems(ArrayList<OverlayItem> newItems) method in invoked inside the handleMessage() of the handler. There are around 11 markers in the ArrayList that is passed to refreshItems I can see the markers overlayed on the map. However, I've two issues: The old markers are not removed from the map. After a while I see a trail of markers. The map doesn't respond to any touch commands. I cannot move the map or zoom in or zoom out. After a while I see a system warning that my app is not responding message. Any idea what's wrong here ?   Hi I have an ASP.NET MVC Page that i have to display the fields in customized Text. For that I have built a CustomModel RequestViewModel with the following fields. Description, Event, UsageDate Corresponding to these my custom Model has the below code. So that, the DisplayName is displayed on the ASP.NET MVC View page. Now being the Description and Event string Datatype, both these fields are displaying Custom DisplayMessage. But I have problem with Date Datatype. Instead of "Date of Use of Slides", it is still displaying UsageDate from the actualModel. Anybody faced this issue with DateDatatype? Appreciate your responses.   I have two files which show all contats in a database, then edits them. The second script keeps directing the browser back due to this part. • Using Add-on SDK to add toolbar buttons? Integrating XUL and Add-on SDK for Firefox Add-ons?

  I have already coded most of a Firefox add-on using the Add-on SDK API. I am now discovering that Add-on SDK might not be powerful enough for my purposes. I need two things: A drop down button in the toolbar next to the location bar. To modify the add-ons manager in firefox It is truly disappointing, but I don't believe either of these is possible with the Add-on SDK. First of all, I understand there is a widget module in the Add-on SDK API. But this only allows me to add a simple icon or label to the awkward add-on bar. What if I need to add a nicer button like the one next to the location bar for Firebug or Greasemonkey? As for modifying the add-ons manager in firefox, I have tried Nickolay Ponomarev's XUL with the Add-on SDK without any success whatsoever. If anyone knows how to get this working and can point me in the right direction that would be extremely helpful (cfx init --template xul doesn't do anything the regular SDK does when I try it)

• AppleScript to open URL in Safari crashes for Flash-based websites

  I'm trying to open a URL in Safari. It works fine for websites without Flash embedded, but crashes Safari for Flash sites. Example (this WORKS): tell application "Safari" to open location "http://google.com" This CRASHES when Safari is not already running: tell application "Safari" to open location "http://grooveshark.com" Two things I noticed: Safari only crashes for websites with embedded Flash The script above only crashes if a new instance of Safari is created (i.e. Safari was not running before) From the second observation I assume that it could be a permission issue of some sort. Maybe the Safari instance launched from the AppleScript has a problem loading plugins?
