  • Inheriting list item permissions via permissions on lookup field item

    Say you have two lists in Sharepoint, let's call them "house" and "region". Each house is assigned to a region via a lookup field. List item permissions are set on regions. Now I want the users only to only see the houses which belong to the regions they have read access to. I reckon it should be relatively simple I see no easy way of doing this. Am I over looking something.

    Hi, I'm writing a sharepoint web part. It writes logs into a file (by using StreamWriter). However, logs are written only for users whose accounts are administrators on the server hosting the web part. I want to detect which account (probably not by using SPUser) is executing web part's code, so that I can have logs generated for less privileged users. Is that possible? Thanks

    Whatever changes made on the UserInformtion in AD, it is not getting updated in users Mysite. Farm Information: SharePoint 2007 + SP2 + Dec-09 CU. Issue: AD-Team changes the user email-id. changes are getting updated in SSP. changes are not getting populated from SSP to Mysite/Site-collections. any thoughts?

    Hi, When I make a document library in Sharepoint 2003 and select the document template type etc and come back to edit/administer the document library, how can I find out what document template type I selected at the time of creation? Another way of putting it: If an administrator makes a document library and selects a document template type and he/she leaves without documenting his/her settings for the document library, how could I find out what document template type he selected?     We're using silverlight on our SharePoint site. When someone navigates to the page containing the silverlight object, they are prompted for credentials. Other pages work fine. I'm wondering if the client is trying to retrive the xap file (which is in a location the process hosting the web application has access to, but not the user). Is the xap file retrievd by the IIS process or the client?

    On the WrkStat.aspx page I would like to add emphasis to the status of each approval stage. e.g. I want to show "Approved" in green and "Rejected" text in red. I tried editing the page in SharePoint Designer but it gives an error about application.master. Does anyone know how to add color to this wrkstat.aspx page or any custom workflow status page?

I need to make sure that the web part that I created is not displayed for people who don't have permissions for the site I'm getting the data from. How do I "disable" the web part if a user doesn't have permissions? I've tried this.enabled = false in the onload() event, didn't work though.

    I'm looking for some good tools that help to share tips, best practices, company standards, etc. amongs developers in my company. Two tools I'm currently considering are a wiki (screwturn wiki) or Sharepoint 2010. I'm wondering if there is something better suited to the task, or any input anyone has on this subject. I'd prefer something that's windows based (i.e. runs on IIS, can authenticate users against Active Directory etc) but I am open to anything.
