    I'll add a large bounty to this when Stack Overflow lets me. I'm using wkhtmltopdf to convert HTML web pages to PDFs. This works perfectly on my 32-bit dev server [unfortunately, I can't ship my machine :-p ].     Hello, My program sets "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced" value "Hidden". Hovewer I'm not able to refresh the explorer to take into account this change. I've tried: 1) SHChangeNotify(SHCNE_ASSOCCHANGED, SHCNF_IDLIST, IntPtr.Zero, IntPtr.Zero); 2) SHELLSTATE state = new SHELLSTATE(); state.fShowAllObjects = (uint)1; SHGetSetSettings(ref state, SSF.SSF_SHOWALLOBJECTS, true); 3) SendMessageTimeout(HWND_BROADCAST, WM_SETTINGCHANGE, SPI_SETNONCLIENTMETRICS, 0, SMTO_ABORTIFHUNG, 5000, ref dwResult); 4) SendMessage(HWND_BROADCAST, WM_COMMAND, 28931 /* Refresh */, 0); Nothing works. So what should I do? If I refresh Explorer myself with F5, then it works. Hovewer I would like some elegant solution, so it would refresh the display everywhere, even in OpenFile/SaveFile dialogs, which are currently open. I'm using C# .NET, Win7. Thank you.

  • 2 pdfs look same on XP, different on Win7

    I have 2 pdf files. I compared them with WinMerge, BeyondCompare, and even compared their checksums. They are exactly the same to me in every way. If I open them with Adobe Reader in Xp, and compare them with my bare eyes, they look the same. But!!! If I open them with Adobe Reader in Win7, and compare them with my bare eyes, they look very different!(particularly border width). I'm sorry I cannot share the 2 pdf files but I will appreciate it if anyone could come up with any idea!

  • VirtualBox networking problem, host XP, guest Debian

    Hi, I'm trying to set up a development environment in a virtual machine on my laptop, with debian os. I have both lan and wlan available on the host machine, yet I can't connect to the internet using either. As I said the host OS is windows XP and the guest OS will be the latest Debian, we downloaded the business card net install so we need internet access from the beginning, besides we need the virtual machine to be visible on the local network (for my fellow developers). We tried host-only networking, NAT, bridging, with proxy (the local network uses a proxy to connect to the internet) and without proxy, nothing seems to work. What else can we do? Thanks a lot.

  • Epson XP-600 will not print properly with all new ink recently installed

    I just installed brand new Epson 273 ink cartridges ($64 worth!) in my Epson XP-600 printer. One box had all the colors plus black, and one had the fatter black cartridge. I am not getting ANY black print on paper, although, when I lift the cartridges out, they show ink inside. Now the yellow is saying LOW though all cartridges are less than 2 weeks old. I only use this printer sparingly—not for business or work reasons. I am ready to scream, as the ink cost almost as much as the actual printer (which is barely 7 months old)! Any ideas on how to solve this issue?

  • Unable to connect to MS Access database through JDBC on Win 7 64-bit

    Hello. I've been trying to connect to a MS Access 2007 database through JDBC. My JDK is JDK 1.6u18 64-bit and OS is Windows 7 64-bit. But problem is I am unable to create a DSN using Windows\system32\odbcad32.exe because it doesn't show ODBC drivers for MS Access at all, it's only showing drivers for MS SQL Server. When tried to click on Configure for "MS Access Database" (which is an already created DSN, I guess), it first shows error message : "The setup routines for the Microsoft Access Drivers (*.mdb, *.accdb) ODBC Driver could not be found. Please reinstall the driver." And then another message : "Errors found! The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver and Application." I cannot reinstall the MDAC as it doesn't work with Windows 7 (which comes with its own WDAC). The odbcad32.exe in Windows\SysWOW64 does let me create a DSN for MS Access, it shows the drivers installed properly. However, when tried to connect to that DSN through a Java program, I get the following exception : java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver and Application at sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbc.createSQLException(Unknown Source) at sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbc.standardError(Unknown Source) at sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbc.SQLDriverConnect(Unknown Source) at sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcConnection.initialize(Unknown Source) at sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver.connect(Unknown Source) at java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(Unknown Source) at java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(Unknown Source) at AccessTest.main(AccessTest.java:19) What might be the problem and what do I have to do to get it working? My OS as well as JDK are 64-bit. Can't I connect to a Access 2007 database, which I presume is 32-bit? Any help would be highly appreciated. Also, in case one thinks this's not a right place for this question, I apologize in advance. Then please guide me to appropriate forum. Another option would be to find a third-party JDBC driver for MS Access. But I do need to know what's wrong with my configuration. :-/ PS : I know there're many better databases available out there, but for few unfortunate reasons, I have to use MS Access only and have to get it working.

  • Keyboard doesn't load in windows xp after Alureon infection

    AVAST detected alureon in a number of system files including atapi.sys and kbdclass.sys iple I quarantined those files, and restarted my machine. After restarting, my keyboard and cdrom did not work (I assumed those drivers would be automatically replaced, but was apparently wrong.) I went into device manager, and checked for hardware changes, it fixed the cdrom (which works now) and looked as though it fixed the keyboard as well. It did not. After multiple reboots the keyboard is still not recognized. It works up until the XP login screen loads, after which it is completely unresponsive. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks :)

  • C# Win Forms Thread Pool - Unresponsive UI

    Scenario I have a Windows Form Application. Inside the main form there is a loop that iterates around 3000 times, Creating a new instance of a class on a new thread to perform some calculations. Baring in mind that this setup uses a Thread Pool, the UI does stay responsive when there are only around 100 iterations of this loop (100 Assets to process). But as soon as this number begins to increase heavily, the UI locks up into eggtimer mode and the thus the log that is writing out to the listbox on the form becomes unreadable. Question Am I right in thinking that the best way around this is to use a Background Worker? And is the UI locking up because even though I'm using lots of different threads (for speed), the UI itself is not on its own separate thread? Suggested Implementations greatly appreciated.

    Hello everyone: I am new to the KDE and I am working all the time in a Windows XP environment. So I installed the KDE's Konqueror browser onto my laptop. The only reason for that is to allow me issue man:ls in the browser address bar and to get the man page displayed into the browser rather than printed inside the terminal. The problem is, I then get the error prompt saying that: protocol not supported man I guess something is wrong in the configuration, how to fix this problem? Many thanks in advance. The problem is definitely not the Konqueror browser, but is between the keyboard and the screen...

  • xDebug on Zend Server CE under Windows XP

    I have Zend Server installed on my Windows XP development machine, installed when I was naive and didn't know that Eclipse was going to become so suck so badly for PHP development. I've made the upgrade to Netbeans, but for debugging they only support xDebug. To be fair I've never used "proper" debuggers before, but other folks have raved about them so I thought I'd give it a try. I followed some directions on the Zend forum about how to install xDebug on Zend server, disabling Zend Debugger in the process. The xDebug "custom installation instructions" wizard tells me that my PHP was compiled with an unsupported compiler (MS VC8), and won't let me download anything. I tried a couple of the other xDebug binaries, but they just refused to load. So I'm left without a debugger option. Does anyone know how I can change the compiler of the php version I have installed so I can use a debugger in Netbeans? or how else i can get xDebug to install on Zend Server?

    Yesterday s**ked, and today ain't (sic) looking better. I have an application I have been working on and it can be slow to start when my ISP is down because of DNS. My ISP was down for 3 hours yesterday, so I didn't think much about this piece of code I had added, until I found that it is always slow to start. This code is supposed to return your IP address and my reading of the link suggests that should be immediate, but it isn't, at least on my machine. Oh, and yesterday before the internet went down, I upgraded (oymoron) to XP SP3, and have had other problems. So my questions / request: 1. Am I doing this right? 2. If you run this on your machine does it take 39 seconds to return your IP address? It does on mine. One other note, I did a packet capture and the first request did NOT go on the wire, but the second did, and was answered quickly. So the question is what happened in XP SP3 that I am missing, besides a brain. One last note. If I resolve a FQDN all is well.     I am trying to install MS SQL Database 2005 on Windows XP Home SP3. It fails giving no reason ("Database failed to install"), then exits. I had already installed MS SQL Database Express Edition 2008 during 2005 setup. But when I removed 2008 one and tried to install 2005 afterwards it still failed with same error. The error happens when I am trying to install Dragon Age Toolset or Visual 2008 Pro edition. I do not known which else informations may be valuable as I never before encountered problems with installing MS database

  • Problem with the hosts file in Windows XP

    I have a computer with Windows XP SP2 with a weird problem. The hosts file doesn't work. No matter what I do, adding or removing entries in the file doesn't make any difference, pinging the added names times out. I tried flushing the DNS cache (using ipconfig /flushdns) but that didn't work, I even tried to restart the DNS client service but that made no difference too. Removing entries also has no effect, I ping the names and I get a reply. Help!!! Edit: Thanks for your answer guys, but the problem is more complicated than this. It seems I'll have to reinstall Windows.

    Hi! I have a special thing: I want to share my scanner over the network. The scanner is connected to a Win7 machine, but I want to use it from Ubuntu 10.04... I found some methods: USB over Network - it can handle Linux Windows; and Windows Windows it has Windows (and Win CE) & Linux server, but it has only Windows client, their Linux client is coming soon - that's a drag :( - it is not free, but what uses Windows, what is free? USBip - to Linux Linux, it is free, and nice I'm looking for the other way, what can handle Win Linux thing... I prefer free things, but that thing is maybe not free...

  • Windows XP unknown location popup annoyance

    I'm plagued by a popup from Windows XP when I use wireless. It says, "You are in an Unknown Location..." It always pops above whatever window I'm using, but does not take focus, so while it does not interrupt my typing, it gets in the way and I can't dismiss it with a keystroke. I'd like to find a way to disable this popup. I've searched in control panel -- Network Connections. I'm not referring to "balloon tips" that appear related to the wireless connection in a new location.
