  • Installing ionCube on Windows 2008 64bit

    I've been trying to install ionCube onto my server but have not been having a lot of luck! My server is: Windows 2008 64bit PHP 5.3.14 Thread Safe disabled running as FastCGI In my PHP.ini I have : zend_extension="C:\Program Files (x86)\PHP\ext\ioncube_loader_win_5.2.dll" The path is correct. The DLL is from the x86 NONTS VC9 version of ionCube and PHP is using the MSVC9 (Visual C++ 2008) compiler though I have also tried using the x86 NONTS VC6 version of ionCube. I'm not getting any error but I'm also not getting ionCube when using phpinfo(): This program makes use of the Zend Scripting Language Engine: Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2012 Zend Technologies Apart from the mail application pools I have also set all the applications in the application pool in IIS7 to use 32bit mode. I don't know if FastCGI is running under 64 or 32 bit mode nor how to switch it or whether it would make a difference? I know it can be a problem installing ionCube onto 64bit Windows but I have also come across threads whereby other people have also [somehow] managed to get it working but even though I seem to be doing the same as them I still can't get it working.

  • Unable to install .NET Framework 3.5 to my XP machine

    I have an application that requires .NET 3.5, but I can't install it. The installer quits saying "it has encoutered a problem during setup. If I look at some of the error logs in the tmp directory I see. Error occurred while initializing fusion. It seems that I have 2.0 SP1 installed. Any ideas how I can get it to work? I went through the temp directory and found these references to the error. Any ideas?   • Multiple copies off the same printer on Windows 7 from PrintUIEntry

    I currently have a number of bat files which work perfectly fine on Windows XP which install the same printer multiple times with a number of finisher options set - e.g. after running the bat file below I would end up with four printers in the printer drop down called Sharp Kits Printer - A4 Single Sided Sharp Kits Printer - A4 Single Sided Stapled Sharp Kits Printer - A4 Duplex Stapled Sharp Kits Printer - A4 Duplex which all have there options configured in the relevant way. I have amended on Windows 7 to point to correct INF file and printer name in the INF files - a single printer installs fine. However when I run the complete batch file only the first printer in it is installed - occassionally the later ones flash up in the GUI but then vanish when you press F5 and are still missing after a reboot. I have tried adding the "/u" paramater to the end, I have changed the "/n" paramater to be different (e.g. n1, n2,n3 etc) - both of these result in the same. I have also tried to change the port (/r) to have "_1" (etc) on the end like the GUI would but this errors as the port doesn't exist. Is it possible to do this on Windows 7, and if so how?

  • No "New Folder" button in windows 7

    My sibling's laptop is running windows 7 x64. The torrents folder in Documents doesn't show the New Folder button. ctrl+shift+n doesn't work either. I tried EVERYTHING here: Can't create new folder from anywhere in Windows 7 ..but nothing worked. As with the OP there, running the .reg file brings an error that says something about not being able to change the registry value while something is using it. I removed one entry at a time in the .reg file until I narrowed down the ones that were causing the problem, which were in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/CLSID. The only different reg value, however, was in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID{11dbb47c-a525-400b-9e80-a54615a090c0}\InProcServer32, for which the default value was %SystemRoot%\system32\explorerframe.dll and the value trying to be set ExplorerFrame.dll. I'm on windows 7 32bit and that's the same value I have for the entry, so I doubt that's it. The only thing I think is slightly off is that there is a user group with a strange name that only has execute and read access, and I can't grant it full control. Every time I try, it acts as if it works, but doesn't change it. I tried booting into safe mode and changing it, but it did the same thing. It is the folder where utorrent puts any new downloads, so it's possible utorrent did something, though that's never happened to me before. edit: I had renamed the folder to something else to avoid the problem, and then went onto my own computer to try to figure out what was wrong (I personally don't like using the touchpad on laptops). While searching, my sibling starting watching a movie. I minimized the movie and saw that the same thing had happened to the folder I renamed. Also changed was the file layout. It showed the different days and the files modified on those days. So, I was able to fix it by doing: Clicking Organize Layout Menu Bar On the menu bar clicking View Arrange By Folder

  • Combining MVVM Light Toolkit and Unity 2.0

    This is more of a commentary than a question, though feedback would be nice. I have been tasked to create the user interface for a new project we are doing. We want to use WPF and I wanted to learn all of the modern UI design techniques available. Since I am fairly new to WPF I have been researching what is available. I think I have pretty much settled on using MVVM Light Toolkit (mainly because of its "Blendability" and the EventToCommand behavior!), but I wanted to incorporate IoC also. So, here is what I have come up with. I have modified the default ViewModelLocator class in a MVVM Light project to use a UnityContainer to handle dependency injections.     I have a small application that uses SQL Server 2005 Express with CLR stored procedures. It has been successfully installed and runs on many computers running XP and Vista. The DLL is not normally signed, but I provided a signed version to test and received the same results. The installation is being done by someone else, and I don’t have access to the box, but they are executing scripts that I provided and work on other computers. I have tried to find information about this error beyond what the results of the script provide, but I haven’t found anything helpful. The person executing the script to create the assembly is logged in with an Admin account, is running CMD as admin, is connecting to the DB via Windows Authentication, has been added to the dbo_owner role, and added to the server role SysAdmin with the hopes that it is a permissions issue. This hasn't changed anything. Do I need to configure SQL Server 2005 Express differently for this environment? Is this error logged anywhere other than just the output from SQLCMD? What could cause this error? Could Vista security policies cause this? I don’t have access to the computer (the customer is doing the testing) so I can’t examine the box myself. TIA

  • W3WP crashes when initializing a collection

    I've created an ASP.NET MVC application that has an initializer attached to the PreApplicationStartMethodAttribute. When initializing, a collection is instantiated that implements an interface I've defined. If I leave the instantiation, w3wp crashes. If I modify the interface, w3wp still crashes. I've tried every variation I could come up with on the theme of keeping the instantiation but doing everything else differently, but w3wp still crashes. My biggest issue here is that I have absolutely no idea why w3wp is crashing. It's not a StackOverflowException or anything concrete like that, all I get is the unintelligent junk cited above. I've tried to use DebugDiag and IISState to debug the w3wp process, but DebugDiag is only available for post-dump analysis in x64 (I'm running on Windows 7 x64, so the w3wp process is thus 64 bit) and IISStat says the following when I try to run it: D:\Programs\iisstate>IISState.exe -p 9204 -d Symbol search path is: SRV*D:\Programs\iisstate\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols IISState is limited to processes associated with IIS. If you require a generic debugger, please use WinDBG or CDB. They are available for download from http://www.microsoft.com/ddk/debugging. This error may also occur if a debugger is already attached to the process being checked. Incorrect Process Attachment I've double-checked 10 times that the process ID of my w3wp process is correct. I'm suspecting that IISState too only can debug x86 processes. Setting a breakpoint anywhere in the application does absolutely nothing. The break point isn't hit and w3wp crashes as soon as the request comes through to IIS from the browser. Starting the application with F5 in Visual Studio 2010 or starting another application to get the w3wp process up and running and then attaching the VS2010 debugger to it and then visiting the faulting application doesn't help. I've also tried to add an HTTP module as described in KB-911816 as well as add this to my web.config file: <configuration> <runtime> <legacyUnhandledExceptionPolicy enabled="true" /> </runtime> </configuration> Needless to say, it makes absolutely no difference. So I'm left with no way to debug the w3wp process, no way to extract any information from it and complete garbage dumped in my event log. If anybody has any idea on how to debug this problem, please let me know! Update My collection was initialized based on RouteTable.Routes which might have thrown an exception (perhaps by not being initialized itself yet in such an early stage of the ASP.NET lifecycle). Postponing the communication with RouteTable.Routes until a later stage solved the problem. While I don't really need an answer to this question anymore, I still find it so obscure that I'll leave it for anyone to comment on and answer, because I found no existing posts on this problem anywhere, so it might be of good reference in the future.

    I think I have my brain halfway wrapped around the Dynamic Types concept in C# 4, but can't for the life of me figure out a scenario where I'd actually want to use it. I'm sure there are many, but I'm just having trouble making the connection as to how I could engineer a solution that is better solved with dynamics as opposed to interfaces, dependency injection, etc. So, what's a real-world application scenario where dynamic type usage is appropriate?

  • How to pre-load all deployed assemblies for an AppDomain

    Given an App Domain, there are many different locations that Fusion (the .Net assembly loader) will probe for a given assembly. Obviously, we take this functionality for granted and, since the probing appears to be embedded within the .Net runtime (Assembly._nLoad internal method seems to be the entry-point when Reflect-Loading - and I assume that implicit loading is probably covered by the same underlying algorithm), as developers we don't seem to be able to gain access to those search paths. My problem is that I have a component that does a lot of dynamic type resolution, and which needs to be able to ensure that all user-deployed assemblies for a given AppDomain are pre-loaded before it starts its work. Yes, it slows down startup - but the benefits we get from this component totally outweight this. The basic loading algorithm I've already written is as follows. It deep-scans a set of folders for any .dll (.exes are being excluded at the moment), and uses Assembly.LoadFrom to load the dll if it's AssemblyName cannot be found in the set of assemblies already loaded into the AppDomain (this is implemented inefficiently, but it can be optimized later): void PreLoad(IEnumerable<string> paths) { foreach(path p in paths) { PreLoad(p); } } void PreLoad(string p) { //all try/catch blocks are elided for brevity string[] files = null; files = Directory.GetFiles(p, "*.dll", SearchOption.AllDirectories); AssemblyName a = null; foreach (var s in files) { a = AssemblyName.GetAssemblyName(s); if (!AppDomain.CurrentDomain.GetAssemblies().Any( assembly => AssemblyName.ReferenceMatchesDefinition( assembly.GetName(), a))) Assembly.LoadFrom(s); } } LoadFrom is used because I've found that using Load() can lead to duplicate assemblies being loaded by Fusion if, when it probes for it, it doesn't find one loaded from where it expects to find it. So, with this in place, all I now have to do is to get a list in precedence order (highest to lowest) of the search paths that Fusion is going to be using when it searches for an assembly. Then I can simply iterate through them. The GAC is irrelevant for this, and I'm not interested in any environment-driven fixed paths that Fusion might use - only those paths that can be gleaned from the AppDomain which contain assemblies expressly deployed for the app. My first iteration of this simply used AppDomain.BaseDirectory. This works for services, form apps and console apps. It doesn't work for an Asp.Net website, however, since there are at least two main locations - the AppDomain.DynamicDirectory (where Asp.Net places it's dynamically generated page classes and any assemblies that the Aspx page code references), and then the site's Bin folder - which can be discovered from the AppDomain.SetupInformation.PrivateBinPath property. So I now have working code for the most basic types of apps now (Sql Server-hosted AppDomains are another story since the filesystem is virtualised) - but I came across an interesting issue a couple of days ago where this code simply doesn't work: the nUnit test runner. This uses both Shadow Copying (so my algorithm would need to be discovering and loading them from the shadow-copy drop folder, not from the bin folder) and it sets up the PrivateBinPath as being relative to the base directory. And of course there are loads of other hosting scenarios that I probably haven't considered; but which must be valid because otherwise Fusion would choke on loading the assemblies. I want to stop feeling around and introducing hack upon hack to accommodate these new scenarios as they crop up - what I want is, given an AppDomain and its setup information, the ability to produce this list of Folders that I should scan in order to pick up all the DLLs that are going to be loaded; regardless of how the AppDomain is setup. If Fusion can see them as all the same, then so should my code. Of course, I might have to alter the algorithm if .Net changes its internals - that's just a cross I'll have to bear. Equally, I'm happy to consider SQL Server and any other similar environments as edge-cases that remain unsupported for now. Any ideas!?

  • Why might login failures cause SQL 2005 to dump and ditch?

    Our SQL 2005 server began timing out and finally stopped responding on Oct 26th. The application logs showed a ton of 17883 events leading up to a reboot. After the reboot everything was fine but we were still scratching our heads. Fast forward 6 days... it happened again. Then again 2 days later. The last night. Today it has happened three times to far. The timeline is fairly predictable when it happens: Trans log backups. Login failure for "user2". Minidump Another minidump for the scheduler Repeated 17883 events. Server fails little by little until it won't accept any requests. Reboot is all that gets us going again (a band-aid) Interesting, though, is that the server box itself doesn't seem to have any problems. CPU usage is normal. Network connectivity is fine. We can remote in and look at logs. Management studio does eventually bog down, though. Today, for the first time, we tried stopping services instead of a reboot. All services stopped on their own except for the SQL Server service. We finally did an "end task" on that one and were able to bring everything back up. It worked fine for about 30 minutes until we started seeing timeouts and 17883's again. This time, probably because we didn't reboot all the way, we saw a bunch of 844 events mixed in with the 17883's. Our entire tech team here is scratching heads... some ideas we're kicking around: MS Cumulative Update hit around the same time as when we first had a problem. Since then, we've rolled it back. Maybe it didn't rollback all the way. The situation looks and feels like an unhandled "stack overflow" (no relation) in that it starts small and compounds over time. Problem with this is that there isn't significant CPU usage. At any rate, we're not ruling SQL 2005 bug out at all. Maybe we added one too many import processes and have reached our limit on this box. (hard to believe). Looking at SQLDUMP0151.log at the time of one of the crashes. There are some "login failures" and then there are two stack dumps. 1st a normal stack dump, 2nd for a scheduler dump.     Since EJB 3 we have embeddable EJB containers, JPA implementations can be used without an application server, there is Weld for contexts and dependency injection and so on. Since on many systems is only Tomcat available, I wonder, if Java EE could be used without an application server but with a Servlet container like Tomcat. What would I have to do to set up an Java environment? What drawbacks do you see?

  • SQL Server stored procedures - update column based on variable name..?

    Hi, I have a data driven site with many stored procedures. What I want to eventually be able to do is to say something like: For Each @variable in sproc inputs UPDATE @TableName SET @variable.toString = @variable Next I would like it to be able to accept any number of arguments. It will basically loop through all of the inputs and update the column with the name of the variable with the value of the variable - for example column "Name" would be updated with the value of @Name. I would like to basically have one stored procedure for updating and one for creating. However to do this I will need to be able to convert the actual name of a variable, not the value, to a string. Question 1: Is it possible to do this in T-SQL, and if so how? Question 2: Are there any major drawbacks to using something like this (like performance or CPU usage)? I know if a value is not valid then it will only prevent the update involving that variable and any subsequent ones, but all the data is validated in the vb.net code anyway so will always be valid on submitting to the database, and I will ensure that only variables where the column exists are able to be submitted. Basically the website uses an object oriented architecture. There are many classes - for example Product - which have many "Attributes" (I created my own class called Attribute, which has properties such as DataField, Name and Value where DataField is used to get or update data, Name is displayed on the administration frontend when creating or updating a Product and the Value, which may be displayed on the customer frontend, is set by the administrator. DataField is the field I will be using in the "UPDATE Blah SET @Field = @Value". I know this is probably confusing but its really complicated to explain - I have a really good understanding of the entire system in my head but I cant put it into words easily. Basically the structure is set up such that no user will be able to change the value of DataField or Name, but they can change Value. I think if I were to use dynamic parameterised SQL strings there will therefore be no risk of SQL injection attacks. I mean basically loop through all the attributes so that it ends up like: UPDATE Products SET [Name] = '@Name', Description = '@Description', Display = @Display Then loop through all the attributes again and add the parameter values - this will have the same effect as using stored procedures, right?? I dont mind adding to the page load time since this is mainly going to affect the administration frontend, and will marginly affect the customer frontend.

I have been told time and time again to check if form input is a number if you are expecting a number or escape it in case (unless you use proper mysqli formatting) to avoid injection. 1.After the safety checks are done, should I do additional logic checks? For example, if the user is sending a friend request to them-self for example even if my user interface will not show the form if the user is looking at their own page.

  • Unable to launch onscreen keyboard (osk.exe) from a 32-bit process on Win7 x64

    90% of the time I am unable to launch osk.exe from a 32bit process on Win7 x64. Originally the code was just using: Process.Launch("osk.exe"); Which won't work on x64 because of the directory virtualization. Not a problem I thought, I'll just disable virtualization, launch the app, and enable it again, which I thought was the correct way to do things. I know I can use HttpUtility.HtmlEncode and Decode, but this method for HI-ASCII characters goes out of the range of the field size in database and I dont want to change the size of data field column. Instead if I use HttpUtility.HtmlAttributeEncode, it works fine because it does not encode the HI-ASCII characters. Is it safe what can be the disadvantages of it.

Should I also validate in the business and data layers as well to protect against SQL injection and also issues? What validations should go in each layer? Another example would be passing a ID to return a record. Should the data layer ensure that the id is valid or should that happen in BLL / UI?

I see where cleaning for HTML chars is important but I wouldn't consider it necessary for trusting user input. T
