  • Configuring bind9 views so I can have DNS services?

    I want to configure bind9 using the Ubuntu terminal to have the DNS resolve a local name, not a domain name. For example, if I type in Nicole it will resolve my IP address in a local network fashion. How can I do this, step-by-step please? I've already installed bind9 using: sudo apt-get install bind9 It's fully installed now, I just need some help configuring. Should I be using local views? I am going to do the connection with two laptops probably connected to each other by Ethernet cable or WIFI. One of them is running Ubuntu and the other is running Windows. I not sure if that's part of the problem.

  • How can I connect my HP Photosmart C3100 printer in 10.04 (regression from 9.x)

    My printer was working under 9.x. It is a an HP Photosmart C3100 series. When I open Admin-Printing no local printers are found. I try to add via Other (My local choices are Serial and other). I have tried many url's - ipp://localhost:631/ipp, http://localhost/ipp, localhost, 127.0.0.1, etc... None have worked. Under the networked I have tried JetDirect, using localhost and 127.0.0.1 and port 631. I have tried many options under IPP with different variants in the host trying to verify a printer. No luck .I tried LPD/LPR with localhost and tried the probe. no luck. I tried the cups admin via localhost:631 and that didn't work. On the old version its simply found the local printer, I might have picked the driver, I can't remember but it was the photosmart c3100 series that was working.I just can't get 10.04 to print.

I would like to ask the following questions: What steps or advice would one take if the task was given to set up a local developers conference? What would the costing look like? (excluding building/hosting of website(s)) How would one build interest and promote this? How would I approach, Local Companies & Universities to collaborate with them? I'm not just aiming this question to users who may have experience in setting up such conferences (but are highly welcome). Rather how would you attack this if you was tasked with this?

    I am newbie in Linux word. I want to implement a bosh server. Because it is hard on Windows platform I decided to deploy it on a Ubuntu virtual machine via vmware. I made installation without problems. I followed the processes on this page. Now I want to test my bosh server with the command sudo bosh or sudo /etc/init.d/bosh start, after typing those I get on the terminal Starting bosh server after, nothing. I looked on the bosh.err file and I see exec: 2: /usr/local/lib/bosh/run-server.js: Permission denied I don? t know why this error with sudo. When I try ls -l /usr/local/lib/bosh/run-server.js it show -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4889 2012-04-01 18:50 /usr/local/lib/bosh/run-server.js How can I make bosh start?

    Recently I read a post by someone who felt the Microsoft MVP program had failed. My local experience with the MVP program would tend for me to disagree. On Saturday I attended a free Windows Phone 7 event organized by Robert MacLean and Rudi Grobler both of whom are local MVP’s. First of all, kudos to them for organizing the event which included a free lunch and flash stick and had some great content for a free event. Secondly, this is not the first time that either of these two MVP’s have organized events. They are active in the community, present at the majority of local events and are always approachable and give an “honest” opinion. For me, that is what an MVP stands for and at least in my region I feel that the MVP program is a real success.

    Wifi connection might drop spontaneously or simply cannot connect. Users on Ubuntu 10.04 and 11.04 have reported experiencing the problem. Running dmesg would show: [210749.637705] wlan0: deauthenticating from 00:23:89:48:3b:b0 by local choice (reason=3) [210778.632244] wlan0: deauthenticating from 00:23:89:48:3b:b0 by local choice (reason=3) [210784.456359] wlan0: deauthenticating from 00:23:89:82:75:70 by local choice (reason=3) which is pretty cryptic. I have tried: kill -9 wpa_supplicant, but wpa_supplicant keeps getting restarted each time. Also, some have suggested that this was caused by enabling power management. However, this might not be true, as the problem has presented itself in a situation where power management was disabled.

However, is there a way to use juju with lxc in a non-local environment? I am looking at a scenario where lxc containers are deployed on multiple nodes. I.e., lets say I have virtual machines m1 and m2 with wordpress deployed on a container in m1 and mysql deployed on a container in m2. Is there a way to orchestrate these deployments with juju?

Assume that the user set the local dns with the googledns or opendns to visit our web sites, so cdn service will select the closest cdn proxy node. all right, but in fact the user's actual access position might outside there, cdn service may chose the one furthest away from the user node, so static resource access slower.. At present, my idea is if user local set dns server with googledns, and then first one we get the actual ip address of the user, tracerote to test a best routing lines, set up a cookie in user browser, and then set 302 header for response to jump to the which best cdn node. Whether the user's browser side traceroute tool can provide the best route decision-making ? Because we find that, once the user to set local dns server with the foreign network segment, for example : set dns with 8.8.8.8, so cdn routing will choose the foreign service node.

    My concern is about SEO. Now let me explain the scenario. I am making a 3 languages website. The development is alright, but I was targeting local customers with one domain, and international (english version) with another. Eg: Local http://www.minhalojadesapatos.com.br (this is not the real website, just example!) Other http://www.myshoesstore.com.br Both domain point to exactly the same hosting and content, but when user comes through local domain, default language is set to portuguese, otherwise, default is english. Language handling on backend uses PHP Sessions and cookies, so with just a click users can change content language. How to avoid being SEO-penalised in this context? (yeah, I was hungry when focusing market for choosing two domains but the activity really needs that, it is a travel agency).

    So I had a server lose connection while updating to 14.04LTS. Foolishly, it ended up getting rebooted, and now I'm here. However, the corporation is considered a category leader, so the local office is also concerned about the importance to carrying over the company's brand to the URL. Questions that have arisen: From an SEO perspective, is there a benefit to including the brand name in the URL?   • -ln links to wrong file

    I've just installed matlab and want to be able to call it from the terminal. It works fine when I explicitly call it from its directory. I cd to /usr/local/bin and type sudo ln -s /usr/local/MATLAB/R2012a/bin/matlab matlab when I then type "matlab" in the terminal, I get the error message "bash: /media/OS/MATLAB/bin/matlab: No such file or directory" I have no idea why it's trying to call matlab from /media. I've tried deleting the file from usr/local/bin but when I create it again the same thing happens. Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Windows 7, C++, VS2008 I have a COM DLL that needs to be registered using "runas administrator" (it is a legacy app that writes to the registry) The DLL is used by a reports app which instantiates it using CoCreateInstance. This failed unless I also ran the reports app as administrator; until I changed the linker setting from /MANIFESTUAC to /MANIFESTUAC:NO Can anyone tell me why this works? Does it mean that I can write apps that bypass the UAC using this setting?

  • Putting update logic in your migrations

    A couple of times I've been in the situation where I've wanted to refactor the design of some model and have ended up putting update logic in migrations. However, as far as I've understood, this is not good practice (especially since you are encouraged to use your schema file for deployment, and not your migrations). How do you deal with these kind of problems? To clearify what I mean, say I have a User model. Since I thought there would only be two kinds of users, namely a "normal" user and an administrator, I chose to use a simple boolean field telling whether the user was an adminstrator or not. However, after I while I figured I needed some third kind of user, perhaps a moderator or something similar. In this case I add a UserType model (and the corresponding migration), and a second migration for removing the "admin" flag from the user table. And here comes the problem. In the "add_user_type_to_users" migration I have to map the admin flag value to a user type. Additionally, in order to do this, the user types have to exist, meaning I can not use the seeds file, but rather create the user types in the migration (also considered bad practice). According to our LDAP administrator, it is not possible to find out programmatically, if a specific user is locked out in the directory - the user is just not returned. This makes life difficult for me, as I need to identify locked out users. Is our administrator right, or is it possible somehow to find out, if a particular user is locked out? If yes, how?
