  • Embed Git Commit Log in Rails App?

    So, I have a 'development blog' in a rails app I'm working on right now. I'm using Git for version control and deployment (although right now I'm the only person working on it). Now, when I make changes in Git I put a pretty decent log entry about what I've done. I'd love to have the Git commit log automatically posted to the development blog -- or otherwise available for others to read within the deployed site. Is there an automated way to pull the Git Commit Log into a view in a rails app?

  • C#.NET : A graphical control makes my app freeze after workstation unlock

    Hi, I have a graphical control that is multithreaded. Until now it worked fine, but I just noticed that whenever I'm on my application showing this control the following happens: if I lock and unlock my workstation, it freezes, like if it were in some kind of infinite loop. Even stranger, this bug occurs only when I'm not lauching the app from Visual Studio, and not attached to it. Does anyone have a clue on what's happening? For instance, if I attach Visual Studio to the already freezed app, can I see which lines of code my threads are executing ? Any help will be appreciated!

  • ASP.Net MVC Web App not running

    Hi, I developed an ASP.Net MVC v1 web application and it ran fine on our server. The client wanted to move to another server, and the site does not run on the new host's server. The new server specs: Windows 2008 ASP.Net Framework v4 ASP.Net MVC 2 (afaik its included with .Net v4) IIS 7.5 (afaik) Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Mvc, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. My understanding is that it should be backwards compatible. Is the app really trying to run in ASP.Net MVC v1 when v2 is available? I have already tried deploying the MVC .dlls to the Bin folder, but it did not work. I also tried changing all the system.Web.Mvc Version values (in the web.config for the web app) from 1.0.0.0 to 2.0.0.0, which also did not work. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

  • Where is the windows app installed + .NET + VS2005

    I deployed a windows application in the following website http://StagingServer/MyProgs/MPP/ on my intranet site, using the Publish Wizard of VS 2005... I accepted all defaults (including Offline support). My users were also able to install the same from the path specified. But when I try to find out the exact location of the EXE in the client, it is not pointing anywhere. I also tried a file search but in vain. Initially I thought the application is running from the server itself, but we were able to start the app, even when the server is down (ofcourse it takes more time to search for updates initially). Ps : The app is showing even in control panel... Raja

    Hello -- We are moving our SL3 app to SL4. First step was to open it in VS2010; it converted w/o problem. However, parameters specified for the start page are not passed along. That is, if we specify ourStartPage.aspx?Slam=Dunk&Glass=Sun in app.xaml.cs, Application_Startup(), e.InitParams is empty. How do we fix this? Thanks for any advice.... (Note that the very same startup string worked in VS2008.)

    I have to write an app for iPad that would take data from SQL Server and post it to the iPad. I looked up on this over the Internet and found that i have to write a web service to expose the data from SQL server using ASP.NET. I did an app previously in android that would take data from my dropbox a/c and display it to the user. I made use of the drop-box api available. I was wondering if anything like that exists for SQL? Also, i have to code in Obj-C for the iPad, so how will i write ASP.NET code? I have more doubts. Thanks in advance.

  • AWS RDS Mysql with benstalk Hibernate app: Character encoding issue

    I'm running a webapp from amazon rds with tomcat 7 and spring, which uses hibernate as the persistence layer. The application and utf-8 encoding work properly on localhost, but for some reason when I deploy to amazon, the UTF-8 encoding breaks. I use mysql 5.5.27 on amazon rds and the table that we wish to update has collation set to utf8 - utf8_unicode_ci And in hibernate I have set: < prop key="hibernate.connection.charSet"UTF-8 UTF-8 characters get replaced by ??? and this is of course especially bad for passwords and usernames + email as it basically kills them. Anyone else encountered character encoding breaking when deploying to amazon?

    Hi, I'm using Python on Appengine and am looking up the geolocation of an IP address like this: import pygeoip gi = pygeoip.GeoIP('GeoIP.dat') Location = gi.country_code_by_addr(self.request.remote_addr) (pygeoip can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/pygeoip/) I want to geolocate each page of my app for a user so currently I lookup the IP address once then store it in memcache. My question - which is quicker? Looking up the IP address each time from the .dat file or fetching it from memcache? Are there any other pros/cons I need to be aware of? For general queries like this, is there a good guide to teach me how to optimise my code and run speed tests myself? I'm new to python and coding in general so apologies if this is a basic concept.     I am in the planning stages of a .NET desktop app that will communicate with a web service. The web service requires a username and password, and a common feature in this sort of app is to save the user's credentials for the next logon. I've thought of a few ways of achieving this, but I am not sure what the most secure way would be. Should it be stored encrypted in a file (and could someone nefarious copy that file to their own machine and hence logon as the original person), or in the registry somehow (I've not done any registry work before, is it secure and would it work)? Are there any other options I might not have thought of?

  • Why does UIActionSheet cancel crahes my App?

    I try to use the UIActionSheet within my iPhone App but have the following problem. When I tap the cancel button "I don't", the app crashes. When I remove the NSLog statement from the actionSheet:clickedButtonAtIndex: it does not. The "Yes, do it" button works just fine and I see the log statement in the console.   • Write-access for c# app in it's own exe dir in Windows 7

    I know that user accounts in Windows 7 are limited by default, so a program cannot just write anywhere on the system (as it was possible in Win XP). But I thought that it would be possible that e.g. a c# app is allowed to write inside it's own exe-directory or it's subfolders at least (not everything is 'user settings' or should be written to "MyDocuments"...). So currently my c# app throws an UnauthorizedAccessException when trying to write inside the exe dir. Is there anything you can do in c# code to allow writing inside the exe dir?

  • error 503: Can't deploy rails 3 app with apache + thin (bitnamy ruby stack)

    As you'll notice, I'm a bit of a noob on Rails. Here's the thing I have a EC2 Bitnami RubyStack AMI running. I'm trying to deploy the sample project to be sure I'm doing the right thing, but I'm not getting anywhere at all.     I'm setting setting FIrst view controller which will appear on my App Startup. It should appear an UIView first time as a tutorial and, from second time, another standard view.   • Exposing a "dumbed-down", read-only instance of a Model in GAE

    Does anyone know a clever way, in Google App Engine, to return a wrapped Model instance that only exposes a few of the original properties, and does not allow saving the instance back to the datastore? I'm not looking for ways of actually enforcing these rules, obviously it'll still be possible to change the instance by digging through its __dict__ etc. I just want a way to avoid accidental exposure/changing of data. My initial thought was to do this (I want to do this for a public version of a User model): class ReadOnlyUser(db.Model): display_name = db.StringProperty() @classmethod def kind(cls): return 'User' def put(self): raise SomeError() Unfortunately, GAE maps the kind to a class early on, so if I do ReadOnlyUser.get_by_id(1) I will actually get a User instance back, not a ReadOnlyUser instance.

    I am working on playing with some Python to create a webapp. At first I put the HTML in a string, using %s to fill certain elements. That all worked perfectly. Now I want to put the HTML in a template, so I followed this tutorial. My code looks like this (I deleted irrelevant code for this error): import codecs import cgi import os import jinja2 jinja_environment = jinja2.Environment(loader=jinja2.FileSystemLoader(os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__)))) class Rot13Handler(webapp2.RequestHandler): def get(self): template = jinja_environment.get_template('rot13.html') self.response.out.write(template.render({'text': ''})) When I replace just template.render({'text': ''}) a random string, the program works fine. I did add the latest jinja2 library to my app.yaml, and naturally my rot13.html does exist with the {{ text }} added. So could anyone please help me in the right direction? I don't know why it's going wrong.

    I have an edit view in my app which is a instance of UITableViewController and contains one cell with a textfield in a grouped table. At the moment this cell is at the top of the screen and is firstResponder so they keyboard is visible as well. But in all the Apples apps like the Contacts App when you edit a piece of information like an Email it buts both of its rows in the middle between the Nav Bar and the Keyboard not at the top of the screen.     I currently use the App_Code folder for all of my classes, and for me (for now) it seems to be working just fine. I have however been considering making the switch over to a Class Library Project inside my Solution instead of the App_Code folder. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of doing this? One thought I had was with regards to testing my web app. If I use a Class Library, do I have to compile it every time I want to tweak/test? Obviously in the App_Code folder I don't have to since all of the Classes compile at runtime.

  • Stop debug stalling in eclipse

    I recently installed eclipse on my Mac pro. I had previously been using eclipse on my mac book. When I run an app engine project on the mac book, it works fine. When I run it on my mac pro it brings me into the debugger where I have to click resume a few times but then everything works well again. I went looking into the debug settings and many other settings pages but everything looks the same. I don't remember making any changes to my mac book settings. The code is an exact copy on both machines. What am I missing here? What settings do I need to change.
