  • Branching Strategies

    - by Craig H
The company I work for is starting to have issues with their current branching model, and I was wondering what different kinds of branching strategies the community has been exposed to? Are there any good ones for different situations? What does your company use? What are the advantages and disadvantages of them?

  • Do you think it's a good idea to create a login box as a user control?

    - by Sergio Tapia
Hi there guys! I'm starting out learning some ASP.Net programming and I'm going to be making a little community website for my friends and myself. I'm trying to pick up some good habits along the way. I was thinking of having a usercontrol and have that 'loginBox' shows the appropriate textboxes and login button, but also show his username when he is logged in. Do you think I should handle this as a user control or am I missing something as an ASP.Net newbie?

  • How do you pronounce "Enum"?

    - by Davy8
In the spirit of this question how do you pronounce Enum? Tagging as subjective and community wiki obviously. I've heard E-Nuhm and E-Nnoom any others? Edit: Looks like we have a winner. Thought it'd be a closer race since most of the people at my work use the 2nd one.

  • How to best structure a website in Liferay Portal

    - by user326072
Hi, I am working on a project involving Liferay Portal and I was hoping to get some input on how to properly utilize community and organizations in the site structure. I have so far been frustrated with the lack of documentation on this subject, and Liferay's internal forum seems to be all but dead. Can someone point me in the right direction here? Thanks.

  • What features would you like to see added to C++?

    - by George Edison
Are there any features you would like to see added to C++? Maybe... A programming construct An extra operator A built-in function you think would be useful I realize questions like this are frowned upon, but I think this one is a genuine programming question that can be answered and the answers will spawn valuable discussion. (And it's community wiki.) Here is one of mine: How come C++ has no exponent operator, like Python's **?

  • C# Parsing html for general use?

    - by Wardy
What is the best way to take a string of html and turn it in to something useful? Essentially if i take a url and go get the html from that url in .net i get a response but this would come in the form of either a file or stream or string. What if i want an actual document or something I can crawl like an xmldocument object? I have some thoughts and an already implemented solution on this but I am interested to see what the community thinks about this.

  • Best way to keep a large number of hobby projects alive; open sourcing?

    - by Daan van Yperen
Because my time is limited I can usually only focus on one or two of my hobby projects, while the others sit there wasting away. I am looking for a solution that would allow me to divide my time better. is open sourcing where I take the role of guiding the project realistic, or are there better solutions? In my case, one project has a reasonably sized community of users going for it but is currently closed source. There have been requests to open source it.

  • Importance of verifying user email on web signup

    - by sunwukung
I know this question is crazy - but my employers client is demanding that email verification be removed from the sign up process (they feel it is impeding sign up). I wanted to garner feedback from the programming community at large as to their experience and opinions regarding sign up and email verification - and the possible consequences of removing this safeguard.

  • Possible to be adequate with respect to decision/condition coverage but not block coverage?

    - by bparker
Following up on a debate that I was having with a colleague. What is the community's opinion on whether or not a section of code can be adequate with respect to decision coverage (all possible decisions have evaluated to true and false) but not block coverage, and if a section of code can be adequate with respect to condition coverage (each simple condition in a compound conditions has evaluated to true and false) but not block coverage. Thanks.
