  • Android App Support Options

    I've got a free app I'm planning on submitting to the marketplace. Looking over the submission form I see they expect a web site or email for support. Users?! I've got to worry about users if I submit an app? I suppose I would like to get some abuse from users, but I don't want to go broke doing it. So what are my options? I have a web site--I suppose I could install forum software on it--that sounds like a lot of work though. Some apps reference a blogspot page--or I could use my Word Press site. They seems a bit disorganized for getting user feedback though.

  • Getting my app to work on my phone

    Hello I wrote an app android sdk version 1.5 using it's built in emulator in eclipse. I created a database outside of eclipse populated it with data and push it to the emulator folder data/data/project name/database and could access it fine from the my app, everything was working great. My final step was to test the apk file on an actual phone. When I did that the program would not work. After looking into it I found that the database file was not being uploaded into the phone. Is there a special way to install the apk file on the actual phone to get the embedded database to work? Or can I assume that since everything worked fine on the sdk 1.5 emulator that everything will work when I upload it to the market. Thanks in advance.

  • Need new method for linking to native mapping from mobile web app

    My mobile web apps use a map button which automatically starts the mapping features of Android and iPhone by simply linking to http://maps.google.com/maps?q=New+York. iOs 6 comes out, the links stop working, because Apple wants us to use "maps.APPLE.com". Turns out ANYTHING you send to "maps.apple.com" gets forwarded to "maps.google.com". So now I have to specially detect iOs 6 and swap out links just so Apple can forward everything back to Google anyway. Is there a clean way to open the device/native mapping app from a mobile web app that works on Android, iOs 6, and iOs pre-6, since iOs 6 nerfed it?   • Need a GUI app for group policy login script

    I wrote a C# 4.0 application that works on a Windows computer but when using Group Policy to set it as a login script, it does not run. The application is being called from the same location and using rsop.msc shows that the application should be run. I see that using C# 4.0 may be a little overkill for this purpose, but it just seems wrong to write a VB6 application to do the same thing. The requirements for the application states that there need to be specific GUI elements that can't be just text on the window. I need larger fonts and color elements. Is there something more appropriate (and current) that I should be using?

  • Best way to notify several java applets/applications of a change on a server

    I need to know the best (fastest) way to have a server (preferably a php based one, but a jsp/servlet one could be set up as well using google app engine) notify several java applets/applications that a change has occurred to the data. The way i am picturing this to work will be very similar to that of the way i think an online java game (like Runescape) works User 1: Changes data on server. Server: returns success to User 1, notifies connected computers of change. Connected Computer 1: processes change, returns success to server. Connected Computer 2: processes change, returns success to server. Connected Computer 3: processes change, returns success to server. Connected Computer 4: processes change, returns success to server. I am hoping to have this entire process complete in half a second, and not involve polling as there will be long durations of nothing, followed by a sudden moment where 4 events happen in succession.

  • Android app using 2.x APIs that will also run on 1.x

    I'm working on an Android app in which I would like to use multi-touch. However, I do not want to completely leave out those still running a 1.x OS phone. How do you program the app so that you can use the 2.x multi-touch APIs (or any other higher level API for that matter) and still allow it to gracefully degrade on 1.x systems. If you create a project in Eclipse for 1.x can you even still access the 2.x APIs? Basically I want it to show up in the marketplace and work on all 1.6 and higher phones and just allow access to the higher level functionality if available. Also, if anyone can point me to any data on the number of 1.x devices vs. 2.x devices in use, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, How do I set a cookie in a LiftFilter.doFilter method?     I have a console application in which I want to write the name of a file. Process.Start("blah.bat"); Normally, I would have something like that in windows application by writing the name of the file 'blah.bat' to Settings file in Properties. However, here I didn't find any Settings file and I added an app.config for the same purpose. I am not sure what to write here in app.config, that would lead to me to achieve similar thing as in windows forms. For eg: In windows forms. Process.Start(Properties.Settings.Default.BatchFile); where BatchFile is a string in settings file in Properties.

I was making POST request to database and sent few text fields to one table in database. So MY QUESTION IS: "Can I use MySQL directly (not though POST method )? and how to use it ?" (will be so glad to see url to solutions or examples) P.S. when i was sending data to server i have some errors in database fields when sending russian characters (what type of encoding sending from my app to server????)

  • I built my rails app with sqlite and without specifying any db field sizes, Is my app now foobared for production?

    I've been following a lot of good tutorials on building rails apps but I seem to be missing the whole specifying and validating db field sizes part. I love not needing to have to think about it when roughing out an app (I would have never done this with a PHP or ASP.net app). However, now that I'm ready to go to production, I think I might have done myself a disservice by not specifying field sizes as I went. My production db will be MySQL. What is the best practice here? Do I need to go through all of my migration files and specify sizes, update all the models with validation, and update all my form partial views with input max widths? or am I missing a critical step in my development process?

    How are people handling the use of templates in their Go-based AppEngine applications? Specifically, I'm looking for a project structure that affords the following: Hierarchical (directory) structure of templates and partial templates Allow me to use HTML tools/editors on my templates (embedding template text in xxx.go files makes this difficult) Automatic reload of template text when on dev server Potential stumbling blocks are: template.ParseGlob() will not traverse recursively. For performance reasons it has been recommended not to upload your templates as raw text files (because those text files reside on different servers than executing code). Please note that I am not looking for a tutorial/examples of the use of the template package. This is more of an app structure question. That being said, if you have code that solves the above problems, I would love to see it. Thanks in advance.

  • iPhone Tab Bar App With Registration View

    Hi! I'm a relative newbie on iPhone app development but have successfully created a tab bar app with 4 tab bar items. I would like to have a one-off registration page for users to key-in information when they open the application for the first time. The registration page should load before the view with the selection of tab bar items loads. What is the best way to do this? Also, how do I load a UIView or UIWebView before the tab bar items load?     Apple has rejected one of our apps, where the user can purchase content through subscriptions (InApp product type is subscription). The problem is that we need to, also because of Apple requiring it, these subscriptions to be transferable between devices. The logical and also the most secure solution would be to link it to a user account, that the user will have to create. But this was the reason why apple rejected this app. They have told us that for purchasing of subscriptions a registration can not be required, can be only optional. So the question is how to solve this if there is no other nice solution that would make sense, be secure and still comfortable for the user?

  • Facebook iframe app redirecting https to http, how?

    I'm trying to get an app working within Facebook, but it seems that no matter what I try including forcing just https in the app settings (see screen shot), the iframe source (Facebooks canvas) seems to change the https address to http (301) which is then producing SEC7111: HTTPS security errors in IE?   • Android: how to have app talk to a web page, ie send gps location

    I'm trying to write a app, where a webpage will have a button that when press will give the GPS location of the phone. I was going to have the android app create a thread that waits on a scket connection. The issue is that 1. Getting the ip addrs of the phone 2. I was told this would really drain the battery I was also thinking about having the phone send the gps location to a webserver like evrry 10 seconds. This sort of seams like a waste of bandwidth. Is there a good way to do this?

    After going through few articles about performance, Not able to get this statement exactly. "When a Drawable is attached to a view, the view is set as a callback on the drawable" Soln: "Setting the stored drawables’ callbacks to null when the activity is destroyed." What does that mean, e.g. In my app , I initialize an imageButton in onCreate() like this, imgButton= (ImageButton) findViewById(R.id.imagebtn); At later stage, I get an image from an url, get the stream and convert that to drawable, and set image btn like this, imgButton.setImageDrawable(drawable); According to the above statement, when I am exiting my app, say in onDestroy() I have to set stored drawables’ callbacks to null, not able to understand this part ! In this simple case what I have to set as null ? I am using Android 2.2 Froyo, whether this technique is required, or not necessary.

  • data loading - app launching on tableview

    hi, i encounter an issue with my application. On one hand when my app launches, the first view displayed is a tableview within a tableviewcontroller. On the other hand my app calls a web service to collect data. These methods are in MyAppDelegate\applicationDidFinishLaunching. The thing is that my tableview is made of custom cells that need data from the web service. I noticed that the view (with the tableview) is launched first and then MyAppDelegate\applicationDidFinishLaunchin is executed. As a result the labels of my custom cells are all equal to null as my arrays aren't filled yet by the web service. I would like to know the proper way to make it. If anyone has an idea please tell me. Wallou
