  • Sub Menu Rollover Pop up Not Showing

    - by Stradigos
    Hello everyone, hopefully this will be an easy answer for some of you CSS veterans out there. I'm developing a site for a client. For readability, I'll just give you a link to the website and the css page in question. HTML CSS I'm trying to make a sub menu pop up to the right of the main menu when you scroll over "Star Quartz Grout." My current CSS obviously isn't correct though, and I could use some guidance. ul#subNav {display: none; width: 134px; } li:hover ul#subNav, li.over ul#subNav {display: inline-block; position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 134px; } My guess is that it's working but it's hidden behind the rest of the page. I could be wrong though. It's kind of hard to confirm, even with Chrome's "Inspect Element" (very nice thing btw). It's probably some dumb mistake. Anyway, thanks in advance. I'm a bit of a CSS novice.

  • Change Stylesheet via If in php

    - by mikep
    Hey i have a question. At the moment i'm trying to use a stylesheet which i get through a if. but it doesn't do anything. here is my code at the moment. the variable $stylesheet will be variable but while testing i've setted it to normal <?php $stylesheet = 'normal' if($stylesheet = 'small') { $style = './sitestyle/stylesheetsmall.css'; } if($stylesheet = 'big') { $style = './sitestyle/stylesheetbig.css'; } else { $style = './sitestyle/stylesheet.css'; } echo '<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="$style">'; ?> Thanks for your answers.

  • getting the mime of text files

    - by acidzombie24
    I am using a piece of code someone pasted for C# which uses urlmon.dll. It reads in <= 256bytes and returns the mime based on the data. Problem is it cant distinguishes a css file from a text/plain. I can goto /style.css but when including it in my html the CSS does not show up. I am using urlmon + context.Response.TransmitFile to send it.

  • Hidden UIView Orientation Change / Layout problems

    - by gargantaun
    The Problem: I have two View Controllers loaded into a root View Controller. Both sub view layouts respond to orientation changes. I switch between the two views using [UIView transformationFromView:...]. Both sub views work fine on their own, but if... Views are swapped Orientation Changes Views are swapped again the View that was previously hidden has serious layout problems. The more I repeat these steps the worse the problem gets. Implementation Details I have three viewsControllers. MyAppViewController A_ViewController B_ViewController A & B ViewControllers have a background image each, and a UIWebView and an AQGridView respectively. To give you an example of how i'm setting it all up, here's the loadView method for A_ViewController... - (void)loadView { [super loadView]; // background image // Should fill the screen and resize on orientation changes UIImageView *bg = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:self.view.bounds]; bg.contentMode = UIViewContentModeCenter; bg.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth; bg.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"fuzzyhalo.png"]; [self.view addSubview:bg]; // frame for webView // Should have a margin of 34 on all sides and resize on orientation changes CGRect webFrame = self.view.bounds; webFrame.origin.x = 34; webFrame.origin.y = 34; webFrame.size.width = webFrame.size.width - 68; webFrame.size.height = webFrame.size.height - 68; projectView = [[UIWebView alloc] initWithFrame:webFrame]; projectView.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth; [self.view addSubview:projectView]; } For the sake of brevity, the AQGridView in B_ViewController is set up pretty much the same way. Now both these views work fine on their own. However, I use both of them in the AppViewController like this... - (void)loadView { [super loadView]; self.view.autoresizesSubviews = YES; [self setWantsFullScreenLayout:YES]; webView = [[WebProjectViewController alloc] init]; [self.view addSubview:webView.view]; mainMenu = [[GridViewController alloc] init]; [self.view addSubview:mainMenu.view]; activeView = mainMenu; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(switchViews:) name:SWAPVIEWS object:nil]; } and I switch betweem the two views using my own switchView method like this - (void) switchViews:(NSNotification*)aNotification; { NSString *type = [aNotification object]; if ([type isEqualToString:MAINMENU]){ [UIView transitionFromView:activeView.view toView:mainMenu.view duration:0.75 options:UIViewAnimationOptionTransitionFlipFromRight completion:nil]; activeView = mainMenu; } if ([type isEqualToString:WEBVIEW]) { [UIView transitionFromView:activeView.view toView:webView.view duration:0.75 options:UIViewAnimationOptionTransitionFlipFromLeft completion:nil]; activeView = webView; } // These don't seem to do anything //[mainMenu.view setNeedsLayout]; //[webView.view setNeedsLayout]; } I'm fumbling my way through this, and I suspect a lot of what i've done is implemented incorrectly so please feel free to point out anything that should be done differently, I need the input. But my primary concern is to understand what's causing the layout problems. Here's two images which illustrate the nature of the layout issues... UPDATE: I just noticed that when the orientation is landscape, the transition flips vertically, when I would expect it to be horizontal. I don't know wether that's a clue as to what might be going wrong. Switch to the other view... change orientation.... switch back....

  • Configuring Displays for Different Mobile Devices

    - by Mike
    Does anyone know a way to have specific CSS style sheets based on the type of Mobile Device? I have been researching it a few days now and haven't found anything except this snippet of code for iPhones. <link media="only screen and (max-device-width: 480px)" href="iPhone.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" /> This works great for iPhones, but on all other mobile devices (android, blackberry, Nokia), it's still displaying the same as my site. I tried: <link media="handheld" href="iPhone.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" /> but that didn't seem to have any effect on the other mobile devices. So I'm not sure how to reach the blackberry's/androids/nokia's without effect the code of my actual site. I'm building my site using the PHP framework CodeIgniter and I looked into this code which is suppose to be able to tell if it is being looked at through a mobile device or browser. if ($this->agent->is_browser()) { $agent = $this->agent->browser().' '.$this->agent->version(); } elseif ($this->agent->is_mobile()) { $agent = $this->agent->mobile(); } else { $agent = 'Unidentified User Agent'; } The only problem is that the newer phones we are building on render the site as a browser and not as a mobile (I think, I've only tested the iphone because it's all I have at the moment). So does anyone have any work arounds for the other phone platforms?

  • What is the Difference Between Learning HTML and Learning a Programming Language?

    - by Brad Johansen
    I learned HTML and CSS about 8 months ago, and recently, about 2 months ago I started learning Python and Ruby. I find it much harder/time consuming to understand and be able to put Python and Ruby into practice than it was HTML or CSS. How is learning/understanding HTML and CSS, and being able to use them different from learning a programming language like Python or Ruby, and being able to put them in practice.

  • How to overlay a div (or any element) over a table row (tr)?

    - by slolife
    I'd like to overlay a div (or any element that'll work) over a table row (tr tag) that happens to have more than one column. I have tried a few methods, which don't seem to work. I've posted my current code below. I do get an overlay, but not directly over just the row. I tried setting the overlay top to $divBottom.css('top'), but that is always 'auto'. So, am I on the right track, or is there a better way of doing it? Utilizing jQuery is fine as you can see. If I am on the right track, how do I get the div placed correctly? Is the offsetTop an offset in the containing element, the table, and I need to do some math? Any other gotchas I'll run into with that? <html> <head> <title>Overlay Tests</title> <style> #rowBottom { outline:red solid 2px } #divBottom { margin:1em; font-size:xx-large; position:relative; } #divOverlay { background-color:Silver; text-align:center; position:absolute; z-index:10000; opacity:0.5; } </style> </head> <body> <p align="center"><a id="lnkDoIt" href="#">Do it!</a></p> <table width="100%" border="0" cellpadding="10" cellspacing="3" style="position:relative"> <tr> <td><p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.</p></td> </tr> <tr id="rowBottom"> <td><div id="divBottom"><p align="center">This is the bottom text</p></div></td> </tr> <tr> <td><p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.</p></td> </tr> </table> <div id="divOverlay" style=""><p>This is the overlay div.</p><p id="info"></p></div> <script src="../includes/javascript/jquery/jquery-1.4.2.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $('#lnkDoIt').click(function() { var $divBottom = $('#rowBottom'); var $divOverlay = $('#divOverlay'); var bottomTop = $divBottom.attr('offsetTop'); var bottomLeft = $divBottom.attr('offsetLeft'); var bottomWidth = $divBottom.css('width'); var bottomHeight = $divBottom.css('height'); $divOverlay.css('top', bottomTop); $divOverlay.css('left', bottomLeft); $divOverlay.css('width', bottomWidth); $divOverlay.css('height', bottomHeight); $('#info').text('Top: ' + bottomTop + ' Left: ' + bottomLeft); }); }); </script> </body> </html>

  • If we don't like it for the presentation layer, then why do we tolerate it for the behavior layer?

    - by greim
    Suppose CSS as we know it had never been invented, and the closest we could get was to do this: <script> // this is the page's stylesheet $(document).ready(function(){ $('.error').css({'color':'red'}); $('a[href]').css({'textDecoration':'none'}); ... }); </script> If this was how we were forced to write code, would we put up with it? Or would every developer on Earth scream at browser vendors until they standardized upon CSS, or at least some kind of declarative style language? Maybe CSS isn't perfect, but hopefully it's obvious how it's better than the find things, do stuff method shown above. So my question is this. We've seen and tasted of the glory of declarative binding with CSS, so why, when it comes to the behavioral/interactive layer, does the entire JavaScript community seem complacent about continuing to use the kludgy procedural method described above? Why for example is this considered by many to be the best possible way to do things: <script> $(document).ready(function(){ $('.widget').append("<a class='button' href='#'>...</div>"); $('a[href]').click(function(){...}); ... }); </script> Why isn't there a massive push to get XBL2.0 or .htc files or some kind of declarative behavior syntax implemented in a standard way across browsers? Is this recognized as a need by other web development professionals? Is there anything on the horizon for HTML5? (Caveats, disclaimers, etc: I realize that it's not a perfect world and that we're playing the hand we've been dealt. My point isn't to criticize the current way of doing things so much as to criticize the complacency that exists about the current way of doing things. Secondly, event delegation, especially at the root level, is a step closer to having a declarative behavior layer. It solves a subset of the problem, but it can't create UI elements, so the overall problem remains.)

  • How do I get the border-radius from an element using jQuery?

    - by S Pangborn
    I've got a div, with the following HTML and CSS. In an attempt to make my Javascript code more robust, I'm attempting to retrieve certain CSS attributes from the selected element. I know how to use the .css() getter to get elements, but how to get the border-radius using that method? jQuery's documentation is sparse. HTML: <div id="#somediv"></div> CSS: #somediv { -moz-border-radius: 5px; -webkit-border-radius: 5px; }

  • asp.net mvc script and style references

    - by tom
    I'm trying to include script and style references that will not break on deployment, however I can not even get the references to work locally. I have tried using Url.Content() and MVCContrib's <%=Html.ScriptInclude("")%>. My scripts are in a Scripts folder on the root of the site; my styles are in the usual Content/css/ folder. The scripts render like this: <script type="text/javascript" src="/Scripts/MicrosoftAjax.debug.js" ></script> This will not work in a view page in the Views folder. What am I doing wrong and what is the best way to handle this? I would have thought Url.Content() would at least work for styles but used in my master page, the link rendered <link href="/Content/css/Site.css rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> This does not work, because the Master Page is in a Shared folder, so what is really the way forward with this?

  • Changing stylesheet href with jQuery doesn't quite work

    - by Michael Itzoe
    I'm creating a web app that user will be accessing in the field, so they'd like to be able to manually toggle the styles from light to dark depending on the ambient lighting. I'm using jQuery. I added an id attribute to my stylesheet, then created a button using the toggle() event, in which I change the href attribute to the CSS file I want. The CSS file has several @import directives as I split the styles into several files for maintainability. My problem is only the main CSS file is being applied. I tried using the absolute path in the @import directives, but no luck. Is there a fix here I'm missing, or do I have to inlcude everything in a single CSS file? Edit: Apprently this is only a problem in IE8, works fine in Chrome and Firefox. Unfortunately, my client wants only IE8. Looks like this is a duplicate of this question.

  • Chrome renders button links completely screwed up when placed inside a paragraph

    - by Ferdy
    I am fairly proficient in CSS but now I am running into a very strange rendering issue in Google Chrome 9. I am trying to create some fancy looking link buttons (basically heavily styled anchors). Here is some example markup: <a href="" class="button"> <figure class="sprite icon icon_back"></figure> Link button with icon</a> This markup may look a litte strange to you, there's a few things you should know: I am using HTML5's figure class to include an icon as part of the button. I have the proper reset CSS applied and Chrome can render this tag for sure. Instead of actually pointing to an image I am applying CSS classes to the figure element. Within the CSS I am using the spriting technique to show the correct portion of a single large sprite image. All of this is working fine in Firefox, and actually also in Chrome. The correct rendering can be seen in the following image: It renders like that in both Firefox and Chrome. Here comes the problem, if I place such a button within paragraph tags <p></p> this is what happens in Chrome only: Notice how the button is ripped apart? Only in Chrome and only when placed inside a paragraph. It gets even stranger: this only happens for the first button inside the paragraph, if I would place three buttons inside a paragraph, only the 1st one is screwed up. Your first question would probably be about the CSS. It is rather verbose so hereby a temporary link to the page in question: Edit: link to live page removed, was only temporary for problem inspection.

  • color letters in a div

    - by Growler
    I've created a palindrome checker. I want to take it one step further and show the letters being compared as it is being checked. HTML: <p id="typing"></p> <input type="text" id="textBox" onkeyup="pal(this.value);" value="" /> <div id="response"></div> <hr> <div id="palindromeRun"></div> JS: To do this, I run the recursive check... Then if it is a palindrome, I run colorLetters(), which I'm trying to highlight in green each letter as it is being checked. Right now it is just rewriting palindromeRun's HTML with the first letter. I know this is because of the way I'm resetting its HTML. I don't know how to just grab the first and last letter, change only those letters' css, then increment i and j on the next setTimeout loop. var timeout2 = null; function pal (input) { var str = input.replace(/\s/g, ''); var str2 = str.replace(/\W/, ''); if (checkPal(str2, 0, str2.length-1)) { $("#textBox").css({"color" : "green"}); $("#response").html(input + " is a palindrome"); $("#palindromeRun").html(input); colorLetters(str2, 0, str2.length-1); } else { $("#textBox").css({"color" : "red"}); $("#response").html(input + " is not a palindrome"); } if (input.length <= 0) { $("#response").html(""); $("#textBox").css({"color" : "black"}); } } function checkPal (input, i, j) { if (input.length <= 1) { return false; } if (i === j || ((j-i) == 1 && input.charAt(i) === input.charAt(j))) { return true; } else { if (input.charAt(i).toLowerCase() === input.charAt(j).toLowerCase()) { return checkPal(input, ++i, --j); } else { return false; } } } function colorLetters(myinput, i, j) { if (timeout2 == null) { timeout2 = setTimeout(function () { console.log("called"); var firstLetter = $("#palindromeRun").html(myinput.charAt(i)) var secondLetter = $("#palindromeRun").html(myinput.charAt(j)) $(firstLetter).css({"color" : "red"}); $(secondLetter).css({"color" : "green"}); i++; j++; timeout2=null; }, 1000); } } Secondary: If possible, I'd just like to have it colors the letters as the user is typing... I realize this will require a setTimeout on each keyup, but also am not sure how to write this.

  • Accessing Layout Items from inside Widget AppWidgetProvider

    - by cam4mav
    I am starting to go insane trying to figure this out. It seems like it should be very easy, I'm starting to wonder if it's possible. What I am trying to do is create a home screen widget, that only contains an ImageButton. When it is pressed, the idea is to change some setting (like the wi-fi toggle) and then change the Buttons image. I have the ImageButton declared like this in my main.xml <ImageButton android:id="@+id/buttonOne" android:src="@drawable/button_normal_ringer" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_gravity="center" /> my AppWidgetProvider class, named ButtonWidget * note that the RemoteViews class is a locally stored variable. this allowed me to get access to the RViews layout elements... or so I thought. @Override public void onUpdate(Context context, AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager, int[] appWidgetIds) { remoteViews = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.main); Intent active = new Intent(context, ButtonWidget.class); active.setAction(VIBRATE_UPDATE); active.putExtra("msg","TESTING"); PendingIntent actionPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(context, 0, active, 0); remoteViews.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.buttonOne, actionPendingIntent); appWidgetManager.updateAppWidget(appWidgetIds, remoteViews); } @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { // v1.5 fix that doesn't call onDelete Action final String action = intent.getAction(); Log.d("onReceive",action); if (AppWidgetManager.ACTION_APPWIDGET_DELETED.equals(action)) { final int appWidgetId = intent.getExtras().getInt( AppWidgetManager.EXTRA_APPWIDGET_ID, AppWidgetManager.INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID); if (appWidgetId != AppWidgetManager.INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID) { this.onDeleted(context, new int[] { appWidgetId }); } } else { // check, if our Action was called if (intent.getAction().equals(VIBRATE_UPDATE)) { String msg = "null"; try { msg = intent.getStringExtra("msg"); } catch (NullPointerException e) { Log.e("Error", "msg = null"); } Log.d("onReceive",msg); if(remoteViews != null){ Log.d("onReceive",""+remoteViews.getLayoutId()); remoteViews.setImageViewResource(R.id.buttonOne, R.drawable.button_pressed_ringer); Log.d("onReceive", "tried to switch"); } else{ Log.d("F!", "--naughty language used here!!!--"); } } super.onReceive(context, intent); } } so, I've been testing this and the onReceive method works great, I'm able to send notifications and all sorts of stuff (removed from code for ease of reading) the one thing I can't do is change any properties of the view elements. To try and fix this, I made RemoteViews a local and static private variable. Using log's I was able to see that When multiple instances of the app are on screen, they all refer to the one instance of RemoteViews. perfect for what I'm trying to do The trouble is in trying to change the image of the ImageButton. I can do this from within the onUpdate method using this. remoteViews.setImageViewResource(R.id.buttonOne, R.drawable.button_pressed_ringer); that doesn't do me any good though once the widget is created. For some reason, even though its inside the same class, being inside the onReceive method makes that line not work. That line used to throw a Null pointer as a matter of fact, until I changed the variable to static. now it passes the null test, refers to the same layoutId as it did at the start, reads the line, but it does nothing. Its like the code isn't even there, just keeps chugging along. SO...... Is there any way to modify layout elements from within a widget after the widget has been created!? I want to do this based on the environment, not with a configuration activity launch. I've been looking at various questions and this seems to be an issue that really hasn't been solved, such as link text and link text oh and for anyone who finds this and wants a good starting tutorial for widgets, this is easy to follow (though a bit old, it gets you comfortable with widgets) .pdf link text hopefully someone can help here. I kinda have the feeling that this is illegal and there is a different way to go about this. I would LOVE to be told another approach!!!! Thanks
