• mongo_mapper custom data types for localization

  hi i have created a LocalizedString custom data type for storing / displaying translations using mongo_mapper. This works for one field but as soon as i introduce another field they get written over each and display only one value for both fields. The to_mongo and from_mongo seem to be not workings properly. • Download and write .tar.gz files without corruption.

  I've tried numerous ways of downloading files, specifically .zip and .tar.gz, with Ruby and write them to the disk. I've found that the file appears to be the same as the reference (in size), but the archives refuse to extract. • Active Record like functionality on array instance variable

  I would like to write a module that provides active record like functionality on an array instance variable. Examples of its use would be x = Container.new x.include(ContainerModule) x.elements << Element.new x.elements.find id module ContainerModule def initialize(*args) @elements = [] class << @elements def <<(element) #do something with the Container... super(element) end def find(id) #find an element using the Container's id self #=> #<Array..> but I need #<Container..> end end super(*args) end end The problem is that I need the Container object within these methods. Any reference to self will return the Array, not the Container object. Is there any way to do this? Thanks!

  Let's say I have a big spec file with 20 tests because I'm testing a large model and I had no other way of doing it : describe Blah it "should do X" do ... end it "should do Y" do ... end ... it "should do Z" do ... end end Running a single file is faster than running the whole test suite, but it's still pretty long. Is there a way to run the last one (ie the one at the end of the file, here "should do Z")? If this is not possible, is there a way to specify which test I want to run in my file ?

• JPA entity design / cannot delete entity

  I though its simple what I want, but I cannot find any solution for my problem. I'm using playframework 1.2.3 and it's using Hibernate as JPA. So I think playframework has nothing to do with the problem. I have some classes (I omit the nonrelevant fields) public class User { ... } public class Task { public DataContainer dataContainer; } public class DataContainer { public Session session; public User user; } public class Session { ... } So I have association from Task to DataContainer and from DataContainer to Sesssion and the DataContainer belongs to a User. The DataContainers can have always the same User, but the Session have to be different for each instance. And the DataContainer of a Task have also to be different in each instance. A DataContainer can have a Sesesion or not (it's optinal). I use only unidirectional assoc. It should be sufficient. In other words: Every Task must has one DataContainer. Every DataContainer must has one/the same User and can have one Session. To create a DB schema I use JPA annotations: @Entity public class User extends Model { ... } @Entity public class Task extends Model { @OneToOne(optional = false, cascade = CascadeType.ALL) public DataContainer dataContainer; } @Entity public class DataContainer extends Model { @OneToOne(optional = true, cascade = CascadeType.ALL) public Session session; @ManyToOne(optional = false, cascade = CascadeType.ALL) public User user; } @Entity public class Session extends Model { ... } BTW: Model is a play class and provides the primary id as long type. When I create some for each entity a object and 'connect them', I mean the associations, it works fine. But when I try to delete a Session, I get a constraint violation exception, because a DataContainer still refers to the Session I want to delete. I want that the Session (field) of the DataContainer will be set to null respectively the foreign key (session_id) should be unset in the database. This will be okay, because its optional. I don't know, I think I have multiple problems. Am I using the right annotation @OneToOne ? I found on the internet some additional annotation and attributes: @JoinColumn and a mappedBy attribute for the inverse relationship. But I don't have it, because its not bidirectional. Or is a bidirectional assoc. essentially? Another try was to use @OnDelete(action = OnDeleteAction.CASCADE) the the contraint changed from NO ACTIONs when update or delete to: ADD CONSTRAINT fk4745c17e6a46a56 FOREIGN KEY (session_id) REFERENCES annotation_session (id) MATCH SIMPLE ON UPDATE NO ACTION ON DELETE CASCADE; But in this case, when I delete a session, the DataContainer and User is deleted. That's wrong for me. EDIT: I'm using postgresql 9, the jdbc stuff is included in play, my only db config is db=postgres://app:app@localhost:5432/app

  I use devise and cancan gems and have simple model association: user has_many subscriptions, subscription belongs_to :user. And have no problems with UsersController. When i delete following lines from SubscriptionsController: load_and_authorize_resource :user load_and_authorize_resource :subscription, through: :user before_filter :authenticate_user! Have no problems at all. So the issue in these lines or in Ability.rb. Any suggestions?

• Why isn't my Ruby object deleted when the last reference goes out of scope?

  Hi gurus, I've found a weird effect when trying to track down a memory leak in a Rails app. Can anyone explain what's going on here? Save this script as a plain Ruby script (Rails not necessary): class Fnord def to_s 'fnord' end end def test f = Fnord.new end test GC.start sleep 2 ObjectSpace.each_object do |o| puts o if o.is_a? Fnord end When I run this via ruby 1.8.7 (2009-06-12 patchlevel 174) [i486-linux] I get the following: bash $ ruby var_test fnord Although the variable f is out of scope, there are no other references to the single Fnord object, and I've garbage collected, the object still seems to exist. Is this a nefarious memory leak of some sort, or am I completely missing something about Ruby? Further, if I change the test method to this: def test f = Fnord.new f = nil end I get no output. But surely this should not change the semantics here? Many thanks!

  I want to have a return_empty_set class method in Ruby, similar to the attr_reader methods. • VS 2010 Entity Repository Error Class member EntityBase.id is unmapped.

  In my project I have it set up so that all the tables in the DB has the property "id" and then I have the entity objects inherit from the EntityBase class using a repository pattern. • Ruby string encoding problem

  I've looked at the other ruby/encoding related posts but haven't been able to figure out why the following is not working. Likely just because I'm dense, but here's the situation. Using Ruby 1.9 on windows. I have a set of CSV files that need some data appended to the end of each line. Whenever I run my script, the appended characters are gibberish. The input text appears to be IBM437 encoding, whereas my string I'm appending starts as US-ASCII. Nothing I've tried with respect to forcing encoding on the input strings or the append string seems to change the resultant output. I'm stumped. • Putting $$s in the middle of an `equation` environment: why doesn't Latex complain?

  I was surprised that the Latex code from a recent question didn't throw up any errors, and even more surprised on further investigation, that Crowley's explanation seems to be true. My intuition about the \begin{equation} ... \end{equation} code is clearly off, what's really going on? Consider this, slightly adapted code: \begin{equation} 1: e^{i\pi}+1=0 $$ 2: B\"ob $$ 3: e=mc^2 \end{equation} This seems to prove that Crowley's explanation of such code, namely that "What that code says to LaTeX is begin equation, end it, begin it again, typeset definition of tangens and end the equation" is right: lines 1&3 can only be typeset in maths mode, line 2 only in text mode. Shouldn't Latex see that the \end{equation} is ending a display math that wasn't started by the \begin{equation}?

• Is it correct or incorrect for a Java JAR to contain its own dependencies?

  I guess this is a two-part question. I am trying to write my own Ant task (MyFirstTask) that can be used in other project's build.xml buildfiles. To do this, I need to compile and package my Ant task inside its own JAR. Because this Ant task that I have written is fairly complicated, it has about 20 dependencies (other JAR files), such as using XStream for OX-mapping, Guice for DI, etc. I am currently writing the package task in the build.xml file inside the MyFirstTask project (the buildfile that will package myfirsttask.jar, which is the reusable Ant task). I am suddenly realizing that I don't fully understand the intention of a Java JAR. Is it that a JAR should not contain dependencies, and leave it to the runtime configuration (the app container, the runtime environment, etc.) to supply it with the dependencies it needs? I would assume if this is the case, an executable JAR is an exception to the rule, yes? Or, is it the intention for Java JARs to also include their dependencies? Either way, I don't want to be forcing my users to be copying-n-pasting 25+ JARs into their Ant libs; that's just cruel. I like the way WAR files are set up, where the classpath for dependencies is defined under the classes/ directory. I guess, ultimately, I'd like my JAR structure to look like: myfirsttask.jar/ com/ --> the root package of my compiled binaries config/ --> config files, XML, XSD, etc. classes/ --> all dependencies, guice-3.0.jar, xstream-1.4.3.jar, etc. META-INF/ MANIFEST.MF I assume that in order to accomplish this (and get the runtime classpath to also look into the classes/ directory), I'll need to modify the MANIFEST.MF somehow (I know there's a manifest attribute called ClassPath, I believe?). I'm just having a tough time putting everything together, and have a looming/lingering question about the very intent of JARs to begin with. Can someone please confirm whether Oracle intends for JARs to contain their dependencies or not? And, either way, what I would have to do in the manifest (or anywhere else) to make sure that, at runtime, the classpath can find the dependencies stored under the classes/ directory?   Using Sinatra in Ruby you can set the server's settings by doing: set :myvariable, "MyValue" and then access it anywhere in templates etc with settings.myvariable. In my script I need to be able to re-set these variables falling back to a bunch of defaults. • ATI propriatery drivers install latest 12.8, broke my kernel. Stuck on kernel 3.2.0-26

  I messed up a bit. Hoping some here can help me. I tried to install the newest catalyst 12.8. Sadly, this broke my system. I was stuck in low graphics mode. I finally managed to restore the proprietary drivers, and get into ubuntu again. But now I am stuck on kernel 3.2.0.26. I had installed kernel 3.2.0-30, but the system no longer sees it. I have kernel 3.2.0-29 too, but the system cannot see that as well. In the grub menu. When I use sudo update-grub, they are both listed.   I'm writing a test app using the twitter gem and I'd like to write an integration test but I can't figure out how to mock the objects in the Twitter namespace. But in order to query for those unique details I need to pass the id of the village.
