• Minimal Fedora Installation

  I am working on a Fedora 13 minimal iso image with no Desktop environment. I just need wxPython support. I removed the gnome from kickstart and build the iso image using livecd-creator. But now my application is not loading as gnome is gone. Earlier my application(myapp.desktop) was placed in /usr/share/gnome/autostart/ and starts automatically. So what should i do now the run my application? To run my wxPython appalication should i have to install display manager(xdm, gdm, kdm etc..)? If i install gdm, it takes lots of space. what should i do? In short i need Fedora 13 minimal iso image with no desktop environment and with wxPython support.

• How I disable "Safely remove hardware" in Windows 8?

  I have a Marvell 91XX and I just updated to Windows 8. The problem I have with the latest drivers 1.0.2.1027 is the absence of "Policies" tab inside the Properties in the Device Manager, where I could disable de "Safely Remove Hardware". It was in Windows 7, but in the new version is not, so the OS shows my two hard disks has removable hardware and I can't do anything about it. Is gone forever? Is in another part? Or is not supported? PD: The best I can come up for a fix is to roll back to Windows 7, see if the option changes some regedit value, export, update to Windows 8 and import.

  I am looking for a wysiwyg editor to allow user to edit part of their website. I already worked with TinyMCE, and heard about CKEditor, which both look great. However, they both lack a free (PHP) file manager/uploader, as they sell their own tool to make some money. I found a few free alternatives for TinyMCE, the best one (for my needs) being PHP Letter's one, but I was wondering about what the community uses ? Do you buy the "official" file manager ? Do you code your own ? Or do you have a great (free) alternative ?

• Why do I have only incoming traffic when copying from network source to network destination?

  I have a VirtualBox VM that is located on a network share of my NAS. When I copy something from the VM's disk onto another of the NAS' network shares (so the data is visible outside the VM), the Windows 7 Task Manager shows only incoming network traffic (yellow graph). It's as if the data was only received but never sent over the network. I verified that the data arrives on the other network share. As I understand it, the data flow looks like this: +-NAS--------+ +-Win7 PC (VM Host)-+ | Share1(VM)-|>---->|-+ | | | | | | | Share2 <---|<----<|-+ | +------------+ +-------------------+ If it was like this, I would see incoming and outgoing traffic, right? What am I not getting here?

• How can I password protect an IIS directory with only FTP access?

  How can I password protect an IIS directory when I only have FTP access to the server? I can't adjust any IIS settings or add users or anything like that. The answer to: IIS Basic Authorization ala .htaccess/.htpasswd in apache does not help as I only have access to the server via FTP. I just need to password protect a directory. I've tried several variations of a web.config file. I can get a basic HTTP auth form to pop up when a user attempts to load a page from my test directory, but I can't configure the authentication part. The server complains that: Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS. whenever I add an <authentication> section to my web.config. I'm grateful for any help anyone can offer. Edit: I don't know what version of IIS is running on this server, but here is the server tag from error messages: Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:1.1.4322.2490; ASP.NET Version:1.1.4322.2494

• Why does tomcat-admin install require adding admin and manager to tomcat-users.xml manually?

  I installed tomcat6 on lucid using apt-get. All working. I installed tomcat-admin. Not working. I amended the /etc/tomcat6/tomcat-users.xml file to uncomment the users and roles (from the default) to be like the following: <role rolename="tomcat"/> <role rolename="role1"/> <user username="tomcat" password="password" roles="tomcat"/> <user username="both" password="password" roles="tomcat,role1"/> <user username="role1" password="password" roles="role1"/> This still didn't work. Then from the following page I added. <role rolename="manager"/> <user username="admin" password="secret" roles="manager"/> then it worked. Why doesn't this occur as part of the install? (Why isn't this in the Ubuntu Manual on Tomcat ?)

• Is there a way to run virt-manager on Windows?

  We've been using KVM for almost a year strictly on CentOS 5.x as the KVM host, with Fedora and Ubuntu workstations accessing the KVM host and its guests using virt-manager, virt-viewer, and ssh. Is anyone aware of a way to access the KVM host using virt-manager from a Windows workstation? We have one co-worker who would like to access the KVM host, from a Win7 system. EDIT #1 I'm familiar with running a X11 server on windows such as Xming, and remote displaying virt-manager from the KVM host to a windows workstation, but what I'd really like here is to know of any solutions native to windows, i.e. is there a version of virt-manager that'll run on windows.

  Hi to all. I'm just wondering, is there any two-panels-interface (like Total Commander, File Manager, etc) bookmark manager, extension, etc for Google Chrome? Using of the default bookmark manager is not so suitable because of two reasons: 1) I've gathered a very large collection of bookmarks (please, don't ask why) 2) bookmarks hierarchy tree always expands its branches when the bookmark manager is open (this makes the moving of bookmarks through the bookmark tree much and much harder). I tried to use Link Commander but it's very and very slow. Any suggestions? Thank you for advices.

  For a frequent task, I need a file manager window open with about 8 tabs, each a different location. I'd like to be able to open the tabs once and then save them as a "tab set", so that in future sessions, I can simply open a file manager and restore the saved tab set, without having to open each tab manually. I'm running Mint 16 with Thunar, but could use a different file manager if needed. Is there a way to do this?

  Why can't I download applications from neither Muon Softwware Center nor Synaptic Package manager? When I try to download an app from my Kubuntu 12.04 LTS softaware center, it tells me that I can't download any app. SAme thing in Synaptic Package manager : I get an error telling that I can't change anything on my system. The only solution I have is to use the cryted file technic, but I just do not like that. From the terminal, I get an error after I downloaded the package that either the package contains an error or that there is an error from this package. Thank you for your time, your answer and your work. This is very important, I have to install an app for my work.

• Multiple Windows Desktop areas for Full-Screen applications

  Is it possible to run multiple instances of Windows Explorer within a single user session, or configure multiple desktops that are portions of a screen? I don't know the best way to describe what I want to achieve, but here's a picture of what I've got: I've got a 4 monitor setup, 3 portrait and one landscape, and I am normally running a number of RDP sessions, outlook, chrome, a development environment or two, so on and so forth. Most of these applications support full-screen views which mostly or completely hide the window borders, but on the Windows Desktop they take up a full monitor to do so. What I want to do is have 7 "desktops", "regions", call them what you will, each of which is, for the purposes of applications running in it, a "full screen" environment: I'm not tied to Windows Explorer for this, in case it helps - a different window manager that will support this functionality would be a perfectly acceptable answer.

  Is it important for managers to give devs regular feedback on how they're doing and vice versa? I say vice versa because I consider employees to be responsible to their manager, and managers to be responsible to their employees. Everyone seems to think this is a good idea but in practice I rarely see it happen because so many shops are "agile" now and that usually means a daily standup plus a weekly kickoff, etc. So one-on-ones just don't happen. In my last position I had my first one-on-one w/ my manager 6 months after I'd been w/ the company. It turned out there was lots of misunderstanding, misalignment and confusion built up and snowballed. Not really surprising when there's no direct personal communication for that long.

• How do I restrict access to certain web files/folders on an IIS 7.5 based web server?

  We're moving a website that was previously hosted on Win2k3 & IIS 6 to a Win2k8 R2 & IIS 7.5 platform. The website is public, but we want to restrict anonymous access to certain files and folders such that the user would be prompted for a password to access them. If this were Apache, a simple .htaccess file would serve the purpose. However, since it's IIS 7.5 and we're serving up mainly static HTML files and a few classic ASP pages I'm in a bit of a quandry as to how to restrict access to individual files and folders for various committees such that attempts to committee_1's files and/or folders would prompt the user for a password and, if entered correctly, would serve up their files. Same thing for committee_2 and so on. Under IIS 6, we would take away the read privileges for IIS_IUSRS and create a user called "committee_1" with a password known by the group and give that user read privileges to the files/folders. There's got to be a better (and more secure) way. Reminder, these are not *.aspx pages that are being served up. Any suggestions on how to password protect key files and/or folders under IIS 7.5 are much appreciated.

• Network randomly drops

  I have a VPS, ubuntu server 12.04 and for unknown reasons the network connection drops and I have to access my vps via the console and ifdown eth0 and ifup eth0. This brings the connection back up from about a few seconds to a few hours. I have run tail -F /var/log/syslog to monitor the log to see what happens at the point of drop and there is nothing unusual. The vps is running under virt-manager and the hardware is set to virtio. I have had linux friends look at my vps and they are unsure of what is the cause.

• Why I am getting following error when trying to start SDK manager?

  I have a 64 bit- 20 GB Ubuntu partition which has very less usable space. So I have put Eclipse in my Ubuntu and downloaded sdks to a folder in my another partition. So when I try to start sdk manager, I am getting the following error in my console: Unexpected exception 'Cannot run program "/media/Data/android-sdks/platform-tools/adb": error=13, Permission denied' while attempting to get adb version from '/media/Data/android-sdks/platform-tools/adb' I have run chmod recursively on android-sdks directory. If I change the address for sdks to Ubuntu partition, sdk manager starts successfully. Is there anything I can do other than increasing the partition size? Thanks

• Win7 recognizing 100% of my RAM some places, not others.

  Before you go blaming it on a 32bit OS, I'm running Win7 64bit. I have 4x 1GB sticks of RAM installed. I recently RMA'd one stick and installed the replacement. It would seem that parts of my system are recognizing it and others aren't. Both System Properties and dxdiag show the full 4GB, but task manager and rainmeter are only reporting 3GB. What's numbers should I trust and how can I fix this? Here's screenshots of what I'm seeing.

I am trying to setup reverse proxy for IIS6 using IIRF so content is accessible via http: //bamboo. It seems that I set it ip correctly, and I can retrieve Status page. • Typical Hadoop setup for remote job submission

  So I am still a bit new to hadoop and am currently in the process of setting up a small test cluster on Amazonaws. So my question relates to some tips on the structuring of the cluster so it is possible to work submit jobs from remote machines. Currently I have 5 machines. 4 are basically the Hadoop cluster with the NameNodes, Yarn etc. One machine is used as a manager machine( Cloudera Manager). I am gonna describe my thinking process on the setup and if anyone can chime in the points I am not clear with, that would be great. I was thinking what was the best setup for a small cluster. So I decided to expose only one manager machine and probably use that to submit all the jobs through it. The other machines will see each other etc, but not be accessible from the outside world. I am have conceptual idea on how to do this,but I am not sure how to properly go about doing this though, if anyone could point me in the right direction that would great. Also another big point is, I want to be able to submit jobs to the cluster through exposed machine from a client machine (might be Windows). I am not so clear on this setup as well. Do I need to have Hadoop installed on the machine in order to use the normal hadoop commands, and to write/submit jobs say from Eclipse or something similar. So to sum it up my questions are, Is this an ok setup for a small test cluster How can I go about using one exposed machine to submit/route jobs to the cluster, without having any of the Hadoop nodes on it. How do I setup a client machine to submit jobs to a remote cluster, and an example on how to do it on Windows. Also if there are any reason not to use Windows as a client machine in this setup. • ADO.NET (WCF) Data Services Query Interceptor Hangs IIS

  I have an ADO.NET Data Service that's supposed to provide read-only access to a somewhat complex database. Logically I have table-per-type (TPT) inheritance in my data model but the EDM doesn't implement inheritance. (Limitation of EF and navigation properties on derived types. STILL not fixed in EF4!) I can query my EDM directly (using a separate project) using a copy of the query I'm trying to run against the web service, results are returned within 10 seconds. Disabling the query interceptors I'm able to make the same query against the web service, results are returned similarly quickly. I can enable some of the query interceptors and the results are returned slowly, up to a minute or so later. Alternatively, I can enable all the query interceptors, expand less of the properties on the main object I'm querying, and results are returned in a similar period of time. (I've increased some of the timeout periods) Up til this point Sql Profiler indicates the slow-down is the database. (That's a post for a different day) But when I enable all my query interceptors and expand all the properties I'd like to have the IIS worker process pegs the CPU for 20 minutes and a query is never even made against the database. This implies to me that yes, my implementation probably sucks but regardless the Data Services "tier" is having an issue it shouldn't. WCF tracing didn't reveal anything interesting to my untrained eye. Details: Data model: Agent-Person-Student Student has a collection of referrals Students and referrals are private, queries against the web service should only return "your" students and referrals. This means Person and Agent need to be filtered too. Other entities (Agent-Organization-School) can be accessed by anyone who has authenticated. The existing security model is poorly suited to perform this type of filtering for this type of data access, the query interceptors are complicated and cause EF to generate some entertaining sql queries. • Error using Session in IIS

  After deployment of my website to IIS I'm getting a following error message when trying to access session: Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. Please also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the \\ section in the application configuration. I access it in Page_Load or PreRender events (I tried both versions). With VS Dev Server it works without a problem. I tried both InProc an SessionState storage, 1 and multiple woker processes. I added a enableSessionState = "true" to my webpage explicitly. • Microsoft Security Essentials & MsMpEng.exe hogging resources

  I've been using MSE for a couple months now, never had a single problem. All of a sudden the process "MsMpEng.exe" will randomly go crazy and hog all my system resources so I can't do anything unless I kill it in the task manager. (I've quit the program for now and my comp is running smooth). When I restart the program, reboot, whatever, it goes off and hogs all the resources again after a couple minutes. If I kill the process it will go away and then come back a couple minutes later and do the same thing. I've scanned with MSE, another antivirus and malware with no probs. Any ideas? Should I uninstall and find something else? The thing is I've liked it so far. I'm running Win7 64-bit. Also, I'm not running any other conflicting security programs. This is the only one on my PC right now. Windows Defender is also off.
