  • Set asisde space for ADT when reading integers from file

    I'm using C to make maze solver. The program should be able read a maze from a text file containing a grid of 1 and 0 representing walls and paths. This file could be of any size as the user selects which maze to use. The program should then show the maze being solved. As the maze is being solved it should show where has been walked and how many steps have been taken. I have made an ADT called Cell containing a bool for wall or path and an integer for steps taken. I now need to populate a 2D array of Cells which means I need to set aside enough space to store a Cell for every integer in the maze file. What would be the best way to do this?

    I have a weird situation, where simple queries seem to never finish for instance SELECT top 100 ArticleID FROM Article WHERE ProductGroupID=379114 returns immediately SELECT top 1000 ArticleID FROM Article WHERE ProductGroupID=379114 never returns SELECT ArticleID FROM Article WHERE ProductGroupID=379114 never returns SELECT top 1000 ArticleID FROM Article returns immediately by 'returning' I mean 'in query analyzer the green check mark appears and it says "Query executed successfully"'. More specifically, I want to read the value of the ASP.NET_SessionId cookie returned by an ASP.NET Web Service I am consuming.   • Combining two .png images into one image using .NET

    I have two (actually many) .png images in my application. Both have transparent areas here and there. I want, in my application, to take both images, combine them, and display the result in a picture box. Later I want to save the result through a button. So far I managed to find the two images and combine them, but it seems the transparency thing won't work. I mean, if you put one image over another, only the top image is visible as the result because, apparently, the image's background is a plain white box. Which is not.     I'm trying to write a short function that will let me quickly read in a file of unknown size and return pointer to the array of data and the length of that array but it seems my code isn't working.   • Convert Justified Paragraph To Image

    I need to convert a paragraph of text into an image. Converting the text into an image is no problem. I have the code to do that. But the text must be shown as a paragraph with each line centered. That is a problem! Currently I can convert the text into a left justified paragraph because there are carriage returns in the text string. I suppose it could be center justified with spaces in the string but it would be hard to calculate the required spaces. There must be an easier way. What I need is some way to format the text into a paragraph and then convert it back into a string, preserving spaces. This needs to be done in VB.NET for an ASP.NET web application. Any ideas? I could get the paragraph justified in Rich Text Format but I don't know if it can be converted back into a string, preserving spaces. Creating a PDF is another possibility. The image created from the text needs to be 300 DPI with a transparent background. I'm using the DrawString method of a Graphics object to create the image.

I started to use the 'aws/s3' gem, and get get each file as an object: #<AWS::S3::S3Object:0x4xxx4760 '/my.company.archive/data/msg/20131030093336.json.gz'> But once I have this object, I do not know how to unzip it or even access the data inside of it.

  • Safely escaping and reading back a file path in ruby

    I need to save a few informations about some files. Nothing too fancy so I thought I would go with a simple one line per item text file. Something like this : # write io.print "%i %s %s\n" % [File.mtime(fname), fname, Digest::SHA1.file(fname).hexdigest] # read io.each do |line| mtime, name, hash = line.scanf "%i %s %s" end Of course this doesn't work because a file name can contain spaces (breaking scanf) and line breaks (breaking IO#each). The line break problem can be avoided by dropping the use of each and going with a bunch of gets(' ') while not io.eof? mtime = Time.at(io.gets(" ").to_i) name = io.gets " " hash = io.gets "\n" end Dealing with spaces in the names is another matter. Now we need to do some escaping. note : I like space as a record delimiter but I'd have no issue changing it for one easier to use. In the case of filenames though, the only one that could help is ascii nul "\0" but a nul delimited file isn't really a text file anymore... I initially had a wall of text detailing the iterations of my struggle to make a correct escaping function and its reciprocal but it was just boring and not really useful. I'll just give you the final result: def write_name(io, val) io << val.gsub(/([\\ ])/, "\\\\\\1") # yes that' 6 backslashes ! end def read_name(io) name, continued = "", true while continued continued = false name += io.gets(' ').gsub(/\\(.)/) do |c| if c=="\\\\" "\\" elsif c=="\\ " continued=true " " else raise "unexpected backslash escape : %p (%s %i)" % [c, io.path, io.pos] end end end return name.chomp(' ') end I'm not happy at all with read_name. Way too long and akward, I feel it shouldn't be that hard. While trying to make this work I tried to come up with other ways : the bittorrent encoded / php serialize way : prefix the file name with the length of the name then just io.read(name_len.to_i). It works but it's a real pita to edit the file by hand. At this point we're halfway to a binary format. String#inspect : This one looks expressly made for that purpose ! Except it seems like the only way to get the value back is through eval. I hate the idea of eval-ing a string I didn't generate from trusted data. So. Opinions ? Isn't there some lib which can do all this ? Am I missing something obvious ? How would you do that ?

Wouldn't it became nasty if my xml elements are many level deep? Is there a workaround where I can read the element in ns1 namespace without knowing whether a prefix is defined?

    I am trying to create a program that asks the User to type three words and sort them in lexicographic order. EXAMPLE; Enter three words separated by spaces: Pear Orange Apple Apple Orange Pear The program is working fine (if I attempt the above example) except for one type of combination example that I will show below. EXAMPLE; Enter three words separated by spaces: Orange Apple Pear Apple Pear Pear The program is skipping the first word (Orange) if it is supposed to appear in the middle of the three words.     I have the piece of code that reads data from file. I want to force IOException in this code for testing purpose (I want to check if code throws correct custom exception in this case). Is there a some way to create a file which is protected from being read, for example? Maybe dealing with some security checks can help? Please, note that passing name to not-existent file cannot help, because FileNotFoundException has separate catch clause.
