A mapreduce workflow* that processes the above info I've thought about either getting vps hosting or getting my own inexpensive server and using xen to split the resources of the server. Getting a quad core box with 2 GB of Ram seems a lot cheaper than the grid options I've seen at slicehost, rackspace and others...

    I am trying to synchronize the content of the directory my_dir/ from /home to /backup. This directory contains a file which name has a double quote in it, such as to"to. Here is my rsync command: rsync -Cazh /home/my_dir/ /backup/my_dir/ And I get the following message: rsync: mkstemp "/backup/my_dir/.to"to.d93PZr" failed: Invalid argument (22) For info, rsync works well when the synchronized filenames contain single quote, parenthesis and space. Thus, why is it bugging with a double quote? Thanks for any help.

  • BIOS says 8GB RAM installed but only 6GB is available

    my machine is a Dell Studio XPS 9100 with 8GB of RAM installed. When I open the BIOS setup and enter the System Info, it shows that my machine got 8GB of RAM installed but only 6GB is available (yes this is from the BIOS only). In Windows 7 (64bit Pro) it shows only 6GB of RAM are available. But if I run CPU-Z then it can detect all 8GB RAM. The machine came pre-configured and I have never opened the case before.

    What is in Oracle's sqlplus equivalent of Linux's man or --help ? When I'm in sqlplus and type help index, I get some commands displayed, but there is no way to get specific sql syntax.     Now that Windows Server 2012 comes with de-duplication features for NTFS volumes I am having a hard time finding technical details about it. I can deduce from the TechNet documentation that the de-duplication action itself is an asynchronous process - not unlike how the SIS Groveler used to work - but there is virtually no detail about the implementation (algorithms used, resources needed, even the info on performance considerations is nothing but a bunch rule-of-thumb-style recommendations). Insights and pointers are greatly appreciated, a comparison to Solaris' ZFS de-duplication efficiency for a set of scenarios would be wonderful.

    Every time I run a java application, one of two things happen: Either I lose sound in all other programs (even after quitting the java app) or if some other application is already playing sound, the said java app doesn't have sound Usually this can be fixed by running pulseaudio --kill from the command line, but it doesn't always work. I add up the memory usage of all the programs running from top and they hardly sum up to around 50 MB. So, where is rest of the memory being used?     Details I recently upgraded to Windows 8 Enterprise trial. After installing, I downloaded the Nvidia Windows 8 x64 install package, and it installed fine. After rebooting I got a message stating that SLI was disabled. And in the configuration menu the option to enable SLI is grayed out. I have confirmed the SLI is connected properly. Any thoughts? When we make requests to our server on a subdomain (api.blah.com), the request does not show up in the access logs However, requests made directly to blah.com do show up in the access logs. CONFIGURATION INFO We have a DNS record that creates a CNAME for the subdomain 'api' TRIED SO FAR We have tried looking in nginx.conf for exclusions (or anything that would be telling it to not log) We have tried adding server entries with the subdomain specifically and telling those to log but nothing seems to make a difference
