• Helping install mrcwa and solve problems with f2py in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

  I am sorry if this is the wrong section but I am starting to get desperate, please someone help me... I need to install the program mrcwa-20080820 (sourceforge.net/projects/mrcwa/) because a summer project that I am involved. I need to use it together with anaconda (store.continuum.io/cshop/anaconda/), I already installed Anaconda and apparently it is working. When I type: conda --version I got the expected answer. conda 3.5.2 If I tried to import numpy or scipy with python or simple type f2py there are no errors. So far so good. But when I tried to install this program sudo python setup.py install I got these errors: running install running build sh: 1: f2py: not found cp: cannot stat ‘mrcwaf.so’: No such file or directory running build_py running install_lib running install_egg_info Removing /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/mrcwa-20080820.egg-info Writing /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/mrcwa-20080820.egg-info Obs: I am trying to use intel fortran 64-bits and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. • Driver error when using multiple shaders

  I'm using 3 different shaders: a tessellation shader to use the tessellation feature of DirectX11 :) a regular shader to show how it would look without tessellation and a text shader to display debug-info such as FPS, model count etc. All of these shaders are initialized at the beginning. Using the keyboard, I can switch between the tessellation shader and regular shader to render the scene. Additionally, I also want to be able toggle the display of debug-info using the text shader. Since implementing the tessellation shader the text shader doesn't work anymore. When I activate the DebugText (rendered using the text-shader) my screens go black for a while, and Windows displays the following message: Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered This happens with either of the two shaders used to render the scene. Additionally: I can start the application using the regular shader to render the scene and then switch to the tessellation shader. If I try to switch back to the regular shader I get the same error as with the text shader. What am I doing wrong when switching between shaders? What am I doing wrong when displaying text at the same time? What file can I post to help you help me? :) thx P.S. • Dynamic Bursting ... no really!

  If any of you have seen me or my colleagues present BI Publisher to you then we have hopefully mentioned 'bursting.' You may have even seen a demo where we talk about being able to take a batch of data, say invoices. Then split them by some criteria, say customer id; format them with a template; generate the output and then deliver the documents to the recipients with a click. We and especially I, always say this can be completely dynamic! By this I mean, that you could store customer preferences in a database. What layout would each customer like; what output format they would like and how they would like the document delivered. We (I) talk a good talk, but typically don't do the walk in a demo. We hard code everything in the bursting query or bursting control file to get the concept across. But no more peeps! I have finally put together a dynamic bursting demo! Its been minutes in the making but its been tough to find those minutes! Read on ... It's nothing amazing in terms of making the burst dynamic. I created a CUSTOMER_PREFS table with some simple UI in an APEX application so that I can maintain their requirements. In EBS you have descriptive flexfields that could do the same thing or probably even 'contact' fields to store most of the info. Just need CUSTOMER_ID as the key for the bursting engine to join it to the customer data at burst time. I have not covered the full delivery options, just email, fax and file location. Remember, its a demo people :0) However the principal is exactly the same for each delivery type. They each have a set of attributes that need to be provided and you will need to handle that in your bursting query. On a side note, in EBS, you use a bursting control file, you can apply the same principals that I'm laying out here you just need to get the customer bursting info into the XML data stream so that you can refer to it in the control file using XPATH expressions. Next, we need to look up what attributes or parameters are required for each delivery method. that can be found in the documentation here.  Now we know the combinations of parameters and delivery methods we can construct the query using a series a decode statements: select distinct cp.customer_id "KEY", cp.template_name TEMPLATE, cp.template_type TEMPLATE_FORMAT, 'en-US' LOCALE, cp.output_format OUTPUT_FORMAT, 'false' SAVE_FORMAT, cp.delivery_channel DEL_CHANNEL, decode(cp.delivery_channel,'FILE', cp.file_loc , 'EMAIL', cp.email , 'FAX', cp.fax) PARAMETER1, decode(cp.delivery_channel,'FILE', c.cust_last_name||'_orders.pdf' ,'EMAIL','[email protected]' ,'FAX', 'faxserver.com') PARAMETER2, decode(cp.delivery_channel,'FILE',NULL ,'EMAIL','[email protected]' ,'FAX', null) PARAMETER3, decode(cp.delivery_channel,'FILE',NULL ,'EMAIL','Your current orders' ,'FAX',NULL) PARAMETER4, decode(cp.delivery_channel,'FILE',NULL ,'EMAIL','Please find attached a copy of your current orders with BI Publisher, Inc' ,'FAX',NULL) PARAMETER5, decode(cp.delivery_channel,'FILE',NULL ,'EMAIL','false' ,'FAX',NULL) PARAMETER6, decode(cp.delivery_channel,'FILE',NULL ,'EMAIL','[email protected]' ,'FAX',NULL) PARAMETER7 from cust_prefs cp, customers c, orders_view ov where cp.customer_id = c.customer_id and cp.customer_id = ov.customer_id order by cp.customer_id Pretty straightforward, just need to test, test, test, the query and ensure it's bringing back the correct data based on each customers preferences. Notice the NULL values for parameters that are not relevant for a given delivery channel. You should end up with bursting control data that the bursting engine can use:  Now, your users can run the burst and documents will be formatted, generated and delivered based on the customer prefs. If you're interested in the example, I have used the sample OE schema data for the base report. The report files and CUST_PREFS table are zipped up here. The zip contains the data model (.xdmz), the report and templates (.xdoz) and the sql scripts to create and load data to the CUST_PREFS table.  Once you load the report into the catalog, you'll need to create the OE data connection and point the data model at it. You'll probably need to re-point the report to the data model too. Happy Bursting!

• Temporarily share/deploy a python (flask) application

  Goal Temporarily (1 month?) deploy/share a python (flask) web app without expensive/complex hosting. More info I've developed a basic mobile web app for the non-profit I work for. It's written in python and uses flask as its framework. I'd like to share this with other employees and beta testers (<25 people). Ideally, I could get some sort of simple hosting space/service and push regular updates to it while we test and iterate on this app. Think something along the lines of dropbox, which of course would not work for this purpose. We do have a website, and hosting services for it, but I'm concerned about using this resource as our website is mission critical and this app is very much pre-alpha at this point. Options I've researched / considered Self host from local machine/network (slow, unreliable) Purchase hosting space (with limited non-profit resources, I'm concerned this is overkill) Using our current web server / hosting (not appropriate for testing) Thanks very much for your time!

During the course, some students showed me a pretty cool public SharePoint 2007 site that they have been working on: OneResponse (http://oneresponse.info). OneResponse is the site the United Nations uses to collaborate and share information during catastrophes such as the recent earthquake in Haiti. • USA keyboard layout keeps getting added on login

  I use the USA International keyboard layout. Every time I log in, the USA layout gets added to my list of layouts, which causes the keyboard layout indicator to be displayed. How can I stop the USA layout from being added? Additional info: I'm running Natty. Until recently, I had all four layout slots filled. Recently I changed from SCIM to iBus. With this change, I no longer need multiple layouts since iBus better handles my needs. So, I don't want both indicators (iBus and Keyboard layout) showing up.

• Windows 8 Live Accounts and the actual Windows Account

  As if Windows Security wasn't confusing enough, in Windows 8 we get thrown yet another curve ball with Windows Live accounts to logon. When I set up my Windows 8 machine I originally set it up with a 'real', non-live account that I always use on my Windows machines. I did this mainly so I have a matching account for resources around my home and intranet network so I could log on to network resources properly. At some point later I decided to set up Windows Live security just to see how changes things. Windows wants you to use Windows Live Windows 8 logins are required in order for the Windows RT account info to work. Not that I care - since installing Windows 8 I've maybe spent 10 minutes with Windows RT because - well it's pretty freaking sucky on the desktop. From shitty apps to mis-managed screen real estate I can't say that there's anything compelling there to date, but then I haven't looked that hard either. Anyway… I set up the Windows Live account to see if that changes things. It does - I do get all my live logins to work from Live Account so that Twitter and Facebook posts and pictures and calendars all show up on live tiles on the start screen and in the actual apps. That's nice-ish, but hardly that exciting given that all of the apps tied to those live tiles are average at best. And it would have been nice if all of this could be done without being forced into running with a Windows Live User Account - this all feels like strong-arming you into moving into Microsofts walled garden… and that's probably what it's meant to do. Who am I? The real problem to me though is that these Windows Live and raw Windows User accounts are a bit unpredictable especially when it comes to developer information about the account and which credentials to use. So for example Windows reports folder security like this: Notice it's showing my Windows Live account. Now if I go to Edit and try to add my Windows user account (rstrahl) it'll just automatically show up as the live account. On the other hand though the underlying system sees everything as my real Windows account. After I switched to a Windows Live login account and I have to login to Windows with my Live account, what do you suppose this returns?Console.WriteLine(Environment.UserName); It returns my raw Windows user account (rstrahl). All my permissions, all my actual settings and the desktop console altogether run under that account. If I look in TaskManager (or Process Explorer for me) I see: Everything running on the desktop shell with my login running under my Windows user account. I suppose it makes sense, but where is that association happening? When I switched to a Windows Live account, nowhere did I associate my real account with the Live account - it just happened. And looking through the account configuration dialogs I can't find any reference to the raw Windows account. Other than switching back I see no mention anywhere of the raw Windows account - everything refers to the Live account. Right then, clear as potato soup! So this is who you really are! The problem is that in some situations this schizophrenic account behavior gets a bit weird. Today I was running a local Web application in IIS that uses Windows Authentication - I tried to log-in with my real Windows account login because that's what I'm used to using with WINDOWS freaking Authentication through IIS. But… it failed. I checked my IIS settings, my apps login settings and I just could not for the life of me get into the site with my Windows username. That is until I finally realized that I should try using my Windows Live credentials instead. And that worked. So now in this Windows Authentication dialog I had to type in my Live ID and password, which is - just weird. Then in IIS if I look at a Trace page (or in my case my app's Status page) I see that the logged on account is - my Windows user account. What's really annoying about this is that in some places it uses the live account in other places it uses my Windows account. If I remote desktop into my Web server online - I have to use the local authentication dialog but I have to put in my real Windows credentials not the Live account. Oh yes, it's all so terribly intuitive and logical… So in summary, when you log on with a Live account you are actually mapped to an underlying Windows user. In any application if you check the user name it'll be the underlying user account (not sure what happens in a Windows RT app or even what mechanism is used there to get the user name info).  When logging on to local machine resource with user name and password you have to use your Live IDs even if the permissions on the resources are mapped to your underlying Windows account. • High CPU load - Ubuntu 14.04

  I noticed that sometimes when browsing (with other processes in the background), I get very high CPU load for the browser process (over 100%) and the computer becomes really slow. I tried switching from Firefox (with just a few extensions) to Chromium, but same thing happens without me visiting graphics-intense sites, flash sites or anything like that. I also noticed python or node (when running "make") produce the same high CPU load from time to time so this is not necessarily browser-related. When I only have a browser open, it doesn't seem to happen and everything is fine in Windows 7. I switched from unity to gnome3 with no effect.   I've faced some issues after remapping keyboard with xmodmap: settings get reset randomly after 2-20 minutes after applying. Googled it but no help: something resets them, but all mentions apply to xfce, while I'm under usual 14.04 Ubuntu with unity. I saw phrases like 'use xkb, forget xmodmap', but still have no idea how to do that. It's either classified or very complicated, because amount of info on that is significantly smaller than for xmodmap way. Here's my list of customisations: xmodmap -e "keycode 84 = Down" xmodmap -e "keycode 79 = Home" xmodmap -e "keycode 80 = Up" xmodmap -e "keycode 83 = Left" xmodmap -e "keycode 85 = Right" xmodmap -e "keycode 87 = End" xmodmap -e "keycode 90 = Insert" xmodmap -e "keycode 91 = Delete" xmodmap -e "keycode 89 = Next" xmodmap -e "keycode 81 = Prior" where keycodes are corresponding keys on numpad, with numlock = off (basically, I'm replacing KP_Del with Delete, KP_Home with Home etc - don't ask why)) Can someone help to find a way to do that using xkb - at least one of the lines?   I was thinking of using Adsense, but after I've read about the stopwords policy... Too many words are banned: "a**, s**t, id**t, a****le, bu****it," etc.. That generally means that I cannot use Adsense, unless I edit my posts. How else would I go about making some profit out of my site? I don't want to use things like popups, text-link ads, I can't post many shoplinks, and my site is too small to sell adspace. For specific reasons, I also don't do videos, am not planning on starting a forum or premium content, or anything very close to what's in this sentence. The reason for this post is basically the fact that I've seen sites without any ads, huge sites, and I started to wonder: how do they make money? That was Gizmodo to be precise.   I'm mainly a server side developer. I'm not a designer, even if I understand web layouts, grids, CSS, typography, valid markup, etc. and I'm able to do some graphic work too (almost). It just takes a lot of time and the result is not always beautiful. I know there are tons of website templates sites out there, and I'd like to use their designs as a starting point for my customers' works, giving them the possibility to choose the design they like more. I'd just prefer to show the templates catalog to customers from within my site, fetching templates info (screenshots, description, etc) from a remote server using an API. TemplateMonster.com provides, or provided, such API. But the service responds with "Unauthorized usage". Are there other sites offering this kind of retrieval service?

• Vertex Normals, Loading Mesh Data

  My test FBX mesh is a cube. From what I surmise, it seems that the cube is on the extreme end of this issue, but I believe that the same issue would be able to occur in any mesh: Each vertex has 3 normals, each pointing a different direction. Of course loading in any type of mesh, potentially ones having thousands of vertices, I need to use indices and not duplicate shared verts. Currently, I'm just writing the normals to the vertex at the index that the FBX data tells me they go to, which has the effect of overwriting any previous normal data. But for lighting calculations I need more info, something that's equivalent to a normal per face, but I have no idea how this should be done. Do I average the 3 different verts' normals together or what?

• Best practice for storing HTML coming from text fields to a database?

  I have an application that allows users to edit certain parts of text and then email that out. My question is what is the best way to store this in a Microsoft SQL Server database. Right now I have two tables, one holding the HTML data and one holding the plain text data. When the user saves the info, it replaces newlines with br's and puts it in the HTML-conntaining table and then puts the regular text in the other table. This way the text box has the newlines when they go to edit, but the table that contains the HTML data, has the BR's. This seems like a silly way to do things. What would be the best practice? The name of that local zone is what you specify in placement.info, for example: <Place Parts_Common_Metadata_Summary="Header:1"/> Now here's the really interesting part: zones do not even know that they are zones, and in fact any shape can be substituted. That means that if you want to add new shapes to the shape that some part has been emitting from its driver for example, you can absolutely do that. And because zones are so barebones as shapes go, they can be created the first time they are accessed. This is what enables us to add shapes into a zone before the code that you would think creates it has even run. For example, in the Layout.cshtml template in TheThemeMachine, the BadgeOfHonor shape is being injected into the Footer zone on line 47, even though that zone will really be "created" on line 168.

  As I was resizing my partitions using GParted, my laptop battery ran out, and the process was interrupted. Now, I am unable to mount the partition which I was trying to resize. I get the following error when I click to mount the partition on nautilus: Error mounting: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda3, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so How can I go about recovering my data?
