    i am new in iphone development, i am using table view to list name of the student, what i want to do is i want to get the row number of the cell the user pressed , currently i can get the name(string) of the cell, //code in didSelectRowAtIndexPath //the obj.name where is a string, it works fine obj.name=[obj.studentname objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; //if i try obj.num , where num is nsinteger .i am getting errors of type i dnt understand obj.num=[[obj.studentname objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]count]; i even tried but i cant get the number. example if faizan lies on 12th cell. what i want to do is,is save 12 in a number and show it on the next view label.i cant put it in the variable thanks for your help in advance

The transferring is working fine, but I would like to display to the user what transfer rate they are getting. So I know the total size of the file, and how much of the file has been transferred, is there a way to figure out the transfer rate from this information, and if not, what information do I need to calculate the transfer rate? I've look everywhere, and people suggest me to use NSZombieEnabled on my executables environment variables.   • NSMutableArray: count is a method or a property?

    I want to verify if I'm in the last cell of the UITable. Should I use a NSInteger property in my controller and store the value of the count of the data (it's an NSMutableArray) that populates the table? I'm asking because I don't know if count iterates over all objects of the array to count or if it only gets me a value of a count property. What would be better ? store the value: myCount = [myArray count] use directly: [myArray count] store numberOfRows: myCount = numberOfRowsInSection:[indexPath 0] use numberOfRows directly: numberOfRowsInSection:[indexPath 0]

  • Core Data: Overkill for simple, static UITableView-based iPhone App?

    Hello! I have a rather simple iPhone app consisting of numerous views containing a single, grouped table view. These views are held together in navigation controllers which are grouped in a tab bar. Simple stuff. My table views do little more than list text (like "Dog", "Cat" and "Weasel") and this data is being served from a collection of plists. It's perhaps worth mentioning too that these tables are 'static' in the sense that their data is pre-determined and will only ever be amended—and if so, very rarely indeed—by the developer (in this case, moi). This rudimentary approach has reached its limits though, and I think I'm going to need something a bit more relational. I have worked a tad with Core Data in the past, but only with apps whose data is determined by user input. I have four closely related questions: Is Core Data overkill for an app consisting mainly of a selection of simple table views? Do you recommend using Core Data to manage data which is predetermine and extremely unlikely to ever change? Can one lock Core Data down so that its data can't change, thereby relinquishing my responsibility as the developer to handle the editing and saving of the managed object context? How do I go about giving Core Data my predetermined data, and in a format I know that it can work with? Thanks a bunch guys.

  • Attributed strings in UITableViewCells without WebView?

    Hello, does anyone know if there's a way in with 3.0+ to display attributed strings within a UITableViewCell without using a UIWebView for that? I need to display a string with linked, tappable substrings as the typical detailTextLabel. I wouldn't mind exchanging this UILabel against another type of view, but I think a UIWebView could be just too slow when rendering a table with hundrets of cells. Or does someone have opposite experiences here? So my question is: what's the best way to achieve mixed strings in a very large table without a great performance hit? I searched for this almost a whole day now, but I can only find old posts mentioning that there's no attributed string on the iPhone (outdated, as this was pre-3.0) and/or saying that they use a UIWebView for that. But really, I don't think this would perform very well on large tables, would it? Many, many thanks in advance Arne

  • Running out of memory but not seeing excessive object allocation in Instruments

    I have an iPad app that's crashing due to low memory. However, Instruments doesn't show any significant amount of memory allocated using ObjectAlloc - it stays under 1MB for the lifetime of the application. Leaks shows less than 1kB leaked over the course of the run. Memory monitor shows the free memory on the devices drop significantly with use, eventually dropping to the point that it's out of memory. Here's a screenshot from Instruments: I'm totally stumped. As far as I can tell, this basically says that as far as my app is concerned, I'm never using more than about 750kB, but that the device is still running out of physical memory, which is causing my app to crash/force exit. I'm new to debugging memory issues with XCode. Am I measuring this wrong? Is there another way to see where this memory is going?

This is what I came up so far but since I'm new with the functionality and such I could definately use some pointers I created a toolbar with a button and behind this button is the following action. -(void)clickRow { selectedRow = [self.tableView indexPathForSelectedRow]; [self.tableView:[self tableView] didSelectRowAtIndexPath:selectedRow]; } in my didSelectRowAtIndexPath there is a rootViewController being pushed rvController = [RootViewController alloc] ...etc So what I would like is my function clickRow to select the row and push the new rootviewcontroller (which has the right info since I'm using a tree ).   • Increasing width of UISearchDisplayController PopOver Results

    I have an iPad app that has a UISearchBar in its navigation bar. When I enter text in the search bar the results are automatically displayed in a UIPopOverController. That's great except the popover's default size is not wide enough for my needs. Is there a way to set its width? Apple has done this themselves with Safari's search bar. The popover that displays search results is a good bit wider than the default and they have removed the "Results" title from the popover.

  • iphone scanning a dat file for data

    I am trying to remake a program I have made in C# in OBJ-C.In C# I used streamreader to search the data file for the line I am looking for then convert that line into a string that I can work with. I have looked at NSScanner but I'm not sure if thats quite waht I'm looking for but I'm by no means a cocoa expert. All I would like to be able to do is have it search a data file for an occurance of a string, then when/if it finds an occurance of that string, it returns the line that string was found on as a string. Any ideas?

  • What's the best NAME for "quick" Category you add to a file?

    So the other day I was sick of typing out repetetive addTarget:action:forControlEvents:s, and macros are only entertaining for so long, so I did this: @implementation UIControl (xx) -(void)addTarget:(id)target action:(SEL)action { [self addTarget:target action:action forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; } @end *and simply added it at the top of the .m file in question. Works great of course, but notice the "xx".* What's the best thing to NAME a "quick" Category like this? Annoyingly, it appears you can not leave the xx blank - it would then become an "Extension" (which, incidentally, I don't understand at all). I was thinking maybe: a single underscore the name of the class again identically "quick" perhaps the name of the class in this file (as in "quick extra routines for UIControl in CherryBomb") - so it would be UIControl(CherryBomb), ie, remind you that these extra routines are handy for CherryBomb "x" your or your company's initials (use the same "quick" Category name everywhere) "ThisTextNeverUsedAnywhere" By the way, I've been assuming that Categories only happen in the files that see them (CherryBomb.m in the example) - they do not from then on apply app-wide. ie they only apply where you include the header file (UIControl+NattyStuff) or in the "quick" case only in the file to which one adds the text. (By the way ... it appears you do not actually need to include an interface for such a Category, i.e. you can omit... //you can actually get away without these lines... //#import <UIKit/UIControl.h> //@interface UIControl (x) //-(void)addTarget:(id)target action:(SEL)action; //@end ... that part and it works fine.) For people who love Categories, and who doesn't, what's the answer to this troubling question? What should you name a "quick" Category where the name is never going to be referenced again and is irrelevant? Is "_" a solution?

  • UIPickerView crashing when switching segemented control

    Hello, I have four NSDictionaries that I would like to use to populate a pickerview depending on a segemented control. With the code I have, the first segmented control/pickerview works fine but when I switch to the second segment the picker view only loads part of the second dictionary, that is it loads the same number of rows as it counted in the first dictionary. When I change the segmented control to the third or fourth segment it simply crashes with a sigabrt error indicating that it cannot index item43 when only 27 exist. This I suspect stems from a UItextfield population based on the upickerview row and object.   • How does ps show the argv for all processes on Mac OS X?

    I'm trying to identify when a particular process is running, based on its arguments, on Mac OS X. There may be several processes running with the same name, but only one will have the arguments I'm looking for. The processes are not owned by the same user who will be running my code. They will not have modified their argv in any way. The 'ps' command shows exactly the information that I need. But I would greatly prefer not to have to spawn 'ps' and parse its output. I originally tried the solution from this question, using sysctl, but it turns out that only works for processes you own; see my other question for more info. So how does ps obtain argv information for processes owned by other users?

They have already put a bunch of data into sqlite databases on their iPhones, and now I want to capture the data into a database, then send it back to their device. The data is saved in the mysql database properly, but when it's sent back it comes out as unicode text, such as Frank\u00e2\u0080\u0099s iPad instead of just Frank's iPad where the apostrophe should really be a curly apostrophe. The answer posted to another question indicates that there is no built-in Cocoa methods to convert the "\u00e2\u0080\u0099" portion of the unicode string from the webserver to an NSString object. Is this correct? That seems really surprising (and scarily disappointing), since Cocoa definitely allows input from many different Unicode characters, and I need to support any arbitrary language that I have never heard of, and all of the possible characters. I save them to and from the local sqlite database just fine now, but once I send it to a web server, then perhaps pull down different data, I want to ensure the data pulled from the web server is correctly formatted.

  • UITableView setting standalone delegate object?

    Hi have setup a sample application using a UITableView. Initially I did this by conforming my controller to and , added a tableView in IB and connected "datasource" & "delegate" to Files Owner. It all works so thats good. What I have been trying out is creating my own class for the delegate. I created a new class and added and , but quickly found I could not connect the tableViewdataSource / delegate. To solve this I added an "Object" (NSObject) in IB and set it to my new class. I then connected the dataSource and delegate outlets to this object. It sort of works, the app runs and displays the tableView, but when I try and scroll the table the app crashes. Can I ask if I am going about this the right way? gary
