• How to close an oracle db connection from php on an apache server? I mean close instantly.

  Usually closing a connection is simply done by oci_clone($connection); or in a worse case when the php script ends the connection pass away. In my case however, I face a different behavior. If I access my application which uses PHP 5.2.8, Apache 2.2.11 and oci8 1.2.5, the connection is kept during several minutes. Actually it seems to: if I launch netstat -b I see that the process httpd.exe remains with the ESTABLISHED status on the database's URL during a while (a few minutes). Could someone enlighten me on that behavior? P.S. I do not use persistent connections.

  Hi, If we had the possibility to run GAE app without any code change on our servlet engine that would be great because: in case that google changes their billing policy we can just jump to our own server or in case their current policy doesn't fit our app needs we can do stuff which is not allowed in the GAE, compromising a 1 JVM, 1 DB We don't actually need a distributed system but more of a realtime system with synchronize, true locking mechanisms, other servers/software installed on the server machine, socket interface etc... Such a package should include at least: TomCat (or equivalent) DataNucleus Access Platform (Task Queue service) Any idea if it's easy to get such a thing or if it's already exist somewhere? Thanks

• Redundancy algorithm for reading noisy bitstream

  I'm reading a lossy bit stream and I need a way to recover as much usable data as possible. There can be 1's in place of 0's and 0's in palce of 1's, but accuracy is probably over 80%. A bonus would be if the algorithm could compensate for missing/too many bits as well. The source I'm reading from is analogue with noise (microphone via FFT), and the read timing could vary depending on computer speed. I remember reading about algorithms used in CD-ROM's doing this in 3? layers, so I'm guessing using several layers is a good option. • Detecting/Repairing NSConnection failure

  I would like to use NSConnection/NSDistributedObject for interprocess communication. I would like the client to be able to handle the case where the server is only occasionally reachable. How can I determine if sending a message to the NSConnection will fail or has failed? Currently if my server (the process that has vended the remote object) dies, the client will crash if it sends a selector to the remote object. Ideally I'd like to have a wrapper for the remote object that can lazily instantiate (or reinstantiate) the connection, and return a default value in the case where the connection could not be instantiated, or the connection has failed. I don't really know the correct way to do this using objective c. Here's some pseudocode representing this logic: if myConnection is null: instantiate myConnection if MyConnection is null: return defaultValue try return [myConnection someMethod] catch myConnection = null return defaultValue

Case 1: $ ./process1 process1 (not ptraced) set up handler alarm(5); .... signal is handled and I can parse handler parameters Case 2: $ debugger1 ./process1 process1 (is ptraced by debugger1) set up handler alarm(5); ... signal is catched by debugger1. It resumes process1 with PTRACE_CONT, signal_number is 4th parameter of PTRACE_CONT. signal is redelivered to process1 it is handled. So, how can I detect in signal handler, was it redelivered by debugger or send by system? OS is Linux, kernel is 2.6.30. Programs are written in plain C.

• How can I programatically convert SQL data-types to .Net data-types?

  Can anyone show me a way of converting SQL Server data-types (varchar for example) to .Net data-types (String for example). I'm assuming that automatic conversion is not possible? I have an 'EntityProperty' object and would like it to have an appropriate 'Type' property (string, decimal, int32 etc), at the moment this property is just a string - 'int32' for example. A little background: I'm using SQL DMO in an internal code generation app to query a database and generate a stored procedure based DAL from the database. Being an internal app I can take quite a few shortcuts and make quite a few assumptions. To get the app working at the moment this data-type conversion is handled by a Select Case statement which just converts the types to strings and generates a set of properties based on these strings but I would prefer a little more flexibility in being able to handle the types (use of TypeOf etc). Anyone worked on something similar? I know EF, nHibernate, Subsonic etc could do all this for me but in this case, for various reasons, I am having to roll my own. :)

• How should the View pull on the Presenter in the MVP pattern

  I have a ASP.NET Web Forms application and I'm using some dynamic controls in the view which depend on stuff that the presenter exposes. Is it okay for the view in this case to pull on the presenter for that data? Is there anything I should be extra careful about when considering testability and a loosely coupled design. The page in this case has it's own page-life cycle and the presenter doesn't know about this. However, the page-life cycle dictates that somethings must occur at specific moments in the page-life cycle. This smells like trouble... Any known pit falls?

I'm adding numbers to ArrayList like 156, 340 (when it is TransferIn or Buy) etc and then i remove them doing it like 156, 340 (when it's TransferOut, Sell). My solution works for that without a problem. The problem I have is that for some old data employees were entering sum's like 1500 instead of 500+400+100+500. How would I change it so that when there's Sell/TransferOut or Buy/Transfer In and there's no match inside ArrayList it should try to add multiple items from thatArrayList and find elements that combine into aggregate. • how to stop onChange in javascript

  in one of my selection box, i have a onChange="..." specified... coz i want to change some other form value after any selection changes. however ... in the same page, some wired case i have to manually set the value.. so i have to use some javascript to set the value of the selection combox, but in this case, i don`t want that onChange event to be fired... how can i walk around it??? Forgot to mention that i am actually using dijit.form.comboBox. for normal HTML form comboBox, it won`t cause any issue. Only i use the dijit comboBox, and i try to set the value to some other value, dojo will trigger the onChange.

  What are the most common reasons for an outlet (a class property) not being set during a bundle load? I'm sorry; most likely I'm not using the correct terms. It's my first steps with iPhone OS development and Objective-C, so please bear with me. Here is more details. Basically, I'm trying to create a table view based form with a fixed number of static rows. I have one nib file with one table view, three table cells and all connections set as in the example. The problem is that the corresponding cell properties in my controller are never initialised. I get an exception in cellForRowAtIndexPath complaining that the returned cell is nil: UITableView dataSource must return a cell from tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath. I was under the impression that all classes (views, windows, controllers …) listed in a nib file are simply instantiated (and linked using the provided connections). Could it possibly be some memory issue? The cell properties in my controller are not defined in any special way.

Supposing I have a glob and I want to know whether any files exist whose names match the glob. The glob can match 0 files (in which case I need to do nothing), or it can match 1 or more files (in which case I need to do something). How can I test whether a glob has any matches.? (test -f glob* fails if the glob matches more than one file.)

• Want to set 'src' of script to my IP-Won't load in Safari or Chrome. Relative link asp.netmvc

  I have a script that links to the server I am hosting (IP can change) usually I would just use for links: var url ='http://' + window.location.hostname + 'end of url'; But in this case it isnt appearing to be so easy. I have tried: (1) $('#scriptid').attr('src', url); as well as: (2) var script = document.createElement( 'script' ); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = url; $("#insert").append( script ); Now case (2) works loads the script runs the script. But when at the end of my script it hits the 'write data' it decides to replace the entire page with just the data. Any idea on how I can do this? Note: I am using plain html not ASP. With ASP backend that is just the way it has to be. Ok it now is <script src="myscript.js"></script> C# router.AddAsyncRoute("myscript.js"...... It workes in IE & FF. But I get blank pages in Chrome & Safari. I am using document.write to write a script onto my page. Any ideas why Chrome & Safari don't like this? I am so far assuming that in Crhome & Safari it takes longer to run the script therefore launching the document.write after the DOM has loaded therefore replacing the page with a blank one. edit the script im trying to run is a modification of: d = new dTree('d'); d.add(0,-1,'My example tree'); d.add(1,0,'Node 1','default.html'); d.add(2,0,'Node 2','default.html'); d.add(3,1,'Node 1.1','default.html'); d.add(4,0,'Node 3','default.html'); d.add(5,3,'Node 1.1.1','default.html') document.write(d); Any ideas how I can get around this?   Hello, I've been searching for quite a while now to find a way to limit wordpress tags by date and order them by the amount of times they appeared in the selected timeframe. But I've been rather unsuccesful. What I'm trying to achieve is something like the trending topics on Twitter. But in this case, 'trending tags'. By default the wordpress tagcloud displays the most popular tags of all time. Which makes no sense in my case, since I want to track current trends. Ideally it would be something like: Most popular tags of today Obama (18 mentions) New York (15 mentions) Iron Man (11 mentions) Robin Hood (7 mentions) And then multiplied for 'most popular this week' and 'most popular this month'. Does anyone know of a way to achieve this?

  I am trying to add a CASE statement to the end of my SQL query to compute a value depending upon another table value and a previously computed value in the SELECT. The error is returned that DelivCount is an invalid column name. Is there a better way to do this or am I missign something? • Bracketing algorithm when root finding. Single root in "quadratic" function

  I am trying to implement a root finding algorithm. I am using the hybrid Newton-Raphson algorithm found in numerical recipes that works pretty nicely. But I have a problem in bracketing the root. While implementing the root finding algorithm I realised that in several cases my functions have 1 real root and all the other imaginary (several of them, usually 6 or 9). The only root I am interested is in the real one so the problem is not there. The thing is that the function approaches the root like a cubic function, touching with the point the y=0 axis... Newton-Rapson method needs some brackets of different sign and all the bracketing methods I found don't work for this specific case. What can I do? It is pretty important to find that root in my program... EDIT: more problems: sometimes due to reaaaaaally small numerical errors, say a variation of 1e-6 in some value the "cubic" function does NOT have that real root, it is just imaginary with a neglectable imaginary part... (checked with matlab) EDIT 2: Much more information about the problem. Ok, I need root finding algorithm. Info I have: The root I need to find is between [0-1] , if there are more roots outside that part I am not interested in them. The root is real, there may be imaginary roots, but I don't want them. Probably all the rest of the roots will be imaginary The root may be double in that point, but I think that actually doesn't mater in numerical analysis problems I need to use the root finding algorithm several times during the overall calculations, but the function will always be a polynomial In one of the particular cases of the root finding, my polynomial will be similar to a quadratic function that touches Y=0 with the point. Example of a real case: The coefficient may not be 100% precise and that really slight imprecision may make the function not to touch the Y=0 axis. I cannot solve for this specific case because in other cases it may be that the polynomial is pretty normal and doesn't make any "strange" thing. The method I am actually using is NewtonRaphson hybrid, where if the derivative is really small it makes a bisection instead of NewRaph (found in numerical recipes). • Tentative date casting in tsql

  I am looking for something like TRYCAST in TSQL or an equivalent method / hack. In my case I am extracting some date data from an xml column. The following query throws "Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type datetime." if the piece of data found in the xml cannot be converted to datetime (in this specific case, the date is "0001-01-01" in some cases). • Use WM_COPYDATA to send data between processes

  I wish to send text between processes. I have found lots of examples of this but none that I can get working. Here is what I have so far: for the sending part: COPYDATASTRUCT CDS; CDS.dwData = 1; CDS.cbData = 8; CDS.lpData = NULL; SendMessage(hwnd, WM_COPYDATA , (WPARAM)hwnd, (LPARAM) (LPVOID) &CDS); the receiving part: case WM_COPYDATA: COPYDATASTRUCT* cds = (COPYDATASTRUCT*) lParam; I dont know how to construct the COPYDATASTRUCT, I have just put something in that seems to work. When debugging the WM_COPYDATA case is executed, but again I dont know what to do with the COPYDATASTRUCT. I would like to send text between the two processes. As you can probably tell I am just starting out, I am using GNU GCC Compiler in Code::Blocks, I am trying to avoid MFC and dependencies.
