    I upgraded to the OCZ-Agility3 120GB from a 60 OCZ Vertex2 SSD. I cloned the drive from the Vertex to the new Agility. Everything seemed to have gone well and have not had any problems.   • Virtual PC: Cannot restore machine from hibernate

    I have two virtual machines set up from Virtual PC on Windows 7 Professional: Windows XP Mode and Xubuntu. Last time I used them (last month or so), I had closed them by hibernating. Evidently, I have meanwhile downloaded a Windows Update affecting VPC and now receive the following error in restoring either of them from hibernation: 'Xubuntu' could not be restored because of either host processor type mismatch or lack of hardware-assisted virtualization support in the system. I've been through the virtual machine's settings, and there's nowhere an option to simply reboot it. (Virtualization is not the problem, as I can create a new virtual machine without any problems.) Any ideas?

    Can Outlook 2010 send me reminder alarms when the program is closed? If not, is there an add-on for this? Also, I use OneNote to take class notes, and sometimes, I will use the draw feature. When I close the program and come back to the notebook later, the drawings will shift and be scrambled, making my notes impossible to read and a huge hassle to fix. Has MS released an update other than (KB2288640), 32-Bit Edition to fix this?

  • Certain banking pages not loading

    For some unknown reason, I am suddenly unable to access my accounts at several banking and credit sites. I have been a registered user at each site for several years and know I am using the correct user ID and password. Yet, after entering the data, answering security questions, and clicking the submit button, I land on a page with an error message saying their is a technical problem preventing me from accessing my account. On one site, I end up at the sign in page repeatedly. I am never told that my ID/password are incorrect. I believe may be firewall related. Windows firewall was damaged after a recent malware attack. I am now using a third party firewall (Fort Knox). I am not seeing a pop-up indicating sites are blocked or asking me to indicate yes or no. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. I get the same result regardless of the browser. I switched to Maxthon last night and am getting the same result. This is not happening at other sites. And I am able to access some banking sites normally. This is frustrating because I need to make payments and have gone paperless. Any feedback will be appreciated. ---- Joe ----

    I think that clock rate of processor determines the speed of core, in my case it is 1.86GHz. But If I am not wrong, it also determines that how much energy it will consume. If you have more frequency then more power it will consume. I choose Power Saver scheme to increase my battery life, however it reduces my core speed to half of the actual speed. I understand this happens because of SpeedStep, but I don't see any slowdown of my computer. So my problem is why we have such high frequency cores as it uses too much power. We can use low frequency cores. Actually I get confused between the two terms Speed of the processor and its frequency. So how much important is the frequency of core in case of any processor.

    Running tmux 1.4 installed from ports on snow-leopard I am unable to use the built in OSX pbcopy command. Outside of tmux: > echo "abc" | pbcopy > echo pbpaste # or using ^v abc But inside of tmux: > echo "123" | pbcopy > echo pbpaste abc I've scoured the man page but can't find any options that might relate to this behaivor. I also can't understand why tmux would mess with shell redirection. Anybody have any clues?

    This has always been a problem for me for a long time. Let's see if any SuperUser can solve this: I have a directory in which there are lots of password protected .RAR files of which I know the passwords. I want to remove the password protection from all of them without extracting the contents. Since each file is larger than 1 GB, decompressing & then recompressing without password encryption is not a good option for me. How can I easily do that? I'm using WinRAR 3.80 on Win7. Any other 3rd party tools are welcomed.

  • Windows 7 on laptop hard drive does not boot after installing Windows to Go on external hard drive

    Just successfully installed and ran Windows 8's Windows to Go on a USB external hard drive. However, after shutting down and removing the USB hard disk, whey I to start my laptop (with only Windows 7 installed), but it doesn't boot and trying to repair it doesn't work. It seems that Windows 8 had corrupted the partition table on the laptop's hard drive, causing Windows 7 to fail to boot. How do I fix that and avoid future problems of the same type?

When i try to excess my personal folder. no access coming..but i can open my personal folder in web browser.other user are able to acess their folder.   • iPhone 3G S sync services problem

    When I try and synchronise my iPhone with iTunes, I get a dialog informing me that "syncing has been disabled on this computer". (I've never disabled syncing myself, and it worked perfectly fine a day ago) Music synchronises fine, as do videos, however, my contacts do not. Google Contacts no longer appears in the list to choose from, and the select box is empty. When I choose to re-enable syncing, iTunes informs me that "iTunes was unable to load provider data from Sync Services". I've followed several steps I've found on the internet, including deleting the C:\Users\Ryan\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Sync Services directory, but to no avail. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Is there a Service (in the Windows-form-of-daemon sense) that I accidentally disabled?

  • Vim: Custom Folding function done, custom highlighting required

    I have defined a function in vim to properly indent folds. Ie so they look like this: Unfolded this is text also text indented text indented text not indented text folded with default function this is text also text +-- 2 lines: indented text ---------------------------- not indented text folded with my new function this is text also text ++- 2 lines: indented text ---------------------------- not indented text The only problem is the the highlighting is still like this: folded with my new function (highlighting shown with tag) this is text also text <hi> ++- 2 lines: indented text ----------------------------</hi> not indented text I would like the highlighting to start at the ++ and not at the beginning of the line. I have looked in the vim manual but could not find anything like that. One so-so solution I found was to make the background black. highlight Folded ctermbg=black ctermfg=white cterm=bold But this make folds less visible. I have tried several variations of: syn keyword Folded lines syn region Folded ... But I don't think that this is the way that folds are selected. Can anyone offer a suggestion? By the way this is my function to indent the folds: set foldmethod=indent function!   • Java Plugin a huge security risk? How to preseve Java plugin from privilege escalation?

    Installing a regular Java plugin is IMHO a real security risk for non-IT people. Normally Java applets run in a sandbox and the applet cannot do anything harmful to your computer. If an applet, however, needs to do something like read-only accessing your filesystem e.g. uploading an image, you have to give it more privileges. Usually that's ok but I think not everyone knows that you give the applet the same privileges to your computer as your user has! And that's everything Java asks you: That looks as 'harmful' as a self-signed SSL certificate on a random page where no sensitive data is exchanged. The user will click on Run! You can try that at home using JyConsole, that's Jython (Python on Java)! Simply type in python code, e.g. import os os.system('cat /etc/passwd') or worse DON'T TYPE IN THAT CODE ON YOUR COMPUTER!!! import os os.system('rm -rf ~') ... Does anyone know how you can disable the possibily of privilege escalation? And by the way, does anyone know why SUN displays only a dialog as harmless as the one shown above (the self-signed-SSL-certificate-dialog from Firefox 3 and above is much clearer here!)?   • Windows Backup fails with 0x80070002: "The system cannot find the file specified"

    Windows 7 Backup is failing. When backing up even a single insignificant directory (e.g. I chose only the empty "Contacts" directory, leaving all other directories unchecked), I get this error within a few seconds and the backup fails. If I uncheck all files/directories, and just do the system image - then the system image is backed up OK without issue. Backup destination is an external USB hard drive. Steps to reproduce and subsequent failure: Set up backup to go to external hard drive. Don't back up system image. Back up "Contacts" directory only for my profile. Start backup. Immediately view the status of the backup, it stays on "Creating a shadow copy..." for a few seconds, and then the backup fails. Click Options button, and it says "Check your backup / The system cannot find the file specified." - with options to "Try to run backup again" or "Change backup settings". If I click "Show Details", then it says: Backup time: 4/12/2012 04:38 Backup location: My Book (D:) Error code: 0x80070002 An examination of the Event Log shows nothing useful beyond the following: Log Name: Application Source: Windows Backup Date: 4/12/2012 04:38:44 Event ID: 4104 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: JTJLaptop Description: The backup was not successful. I'm stumped; WHAT file can't be found and why is my backup failing? This is on a Lenovo T420 laptop.

  • Mechanical mouse using USB-to-PS/2 Adapter freezes occasionally

    I am using an AOpen PS/2 mechanical mouse in Ubuntu 11.10 with a Staples USB-to-PS/2 Adapter with my Intel DP67DE motherboard. The mouse is more comfortable for my hand as it has a lower height than optical mouses. Occasionally the mouse cursor freezes and often I have to unplug it from the USB port and plug it back in to unfreeze it. This happens with all the USB ports. I've been using the adapter for a few weeks now and this seems to be happening more often recently. What might be happening and is there anything that can be done to fix this?

  • Ubuntu - Ruby Daemon script creates two processes - sh and ruby - PID file points at sh, not ruby

    The PID file for a ruby process I have running as a daemon is getting the wrong PID. It appears that running /etc/init.d/sinatra start creates two processes - sh and ruby, and the PID that ends up in the PID file is that of the sh process. This means that when I then run /etc/init.d/sinatra stop or /etc/init.d/sinatra restart, it is killing sh and leaving the ruby process still running. I'd like to know a) why is my script launching two processes - sh and ruby, and not just ruby, and b) how do I fix it to just launch ruby? Details of the setup: I have a small Sinatra server set up on an ubuntu server, running as a daemon. It is set to automatically at server startup run a script named sinatra in /etc/init.d that launches the a control script control.rb, which then runs a ruby daemon command to start the server. The script is run under the 'sinatrauser' account, which has permissions for the directories the script needs. contents of /etc/init.d/sinatra #!/bin/bash # sinatra Startup script for Sinatra server. sudo -u sinatrauser ruby /var/www/sinatra/control.rb $1 RETVAL=$? exit $RETVAL To install this script, I simply copied it to /etc/init.d/ and ran sudo update-rc.d sinatra defaults contents of /var/www/sinatra/control.rb require 'rubygems' require 'daemons' pwd = Dir.pwd Daemons.run_proc('sinatraserver.rb', {:dir_mode => :normal, :dir => "/opt/pids/sinatra"}) do Dir.chdir(pwd) exec 'ruby /var/www/sinatra/sintraserver.rb >> /var/log/sinatra/sinatraOutput.log 2>&1' end portion of output from ps -A 6967 ? 00:00:00 apache2 10181 ? 00:00:00 sh <--- PID file gets this PID 10182 ? 00:00:02 ruby <--- Actual ruby process running Sinatra 12172 ? 00:00:00 sshd The PID file gets created in /opt/pids/sinatra/sinatraserver.rb.pid, and always contains the PID of the sh instance, which is always one less than the PID of the ruby process EDIT: I tried micke's solution, but it had no effect on the behavior I am seeing.   • SketchUp: Weird regions in sketch

    I'm using SketchUp 8.0.15158. My sketch has weird regions/lines in it that I can't explain or get rid of. I've redrawn almost the whole thing and the lines persist! See here, highlighted in yellow: These dotted lines only show up when I triple-click the back face to select the whole object. Here's what the sketch looks like without selections: What are these lines and how can I get rid of them? They are causing weird issues that I can't seem to get around.
