• Unique number generation with Java Server Faces

  I am developing an application for a medical channelling centre where multiple users reserve bookings for doctors with JSF and JPA. A sequence number is unique to the Doctor, Date and Session. I tried to get a unique sequence number from counting the previous bookings and add one, but if two requests comes at the same time, two bookings get the same number causing trouble to functionality. How can I get unique number in this case? Can I use an application wide bean to generate it? (I thought it is not practicle to get the unique number from the database sequence number as there are several doctors, sessions and daily they have to have different booking number.)

• Running sites on "localhost" is extremeley slow.

  Hello all, Having real trouble using my local host to test sites. It runs extremely slow! Sometimes up to a minute to load a page. I'm using firefox and the sites i'm testing run fine on other developers in my office local machines/ on the production server. I've gone through the normal things :- Disabled IPv6 Not running in debug mood Put the site in the highest app pool (High Isolated) on IIS 6. Taking of firewalls etc. The problem only seems to occur when hitting pages which contain some form of .net code in the code-behind. Appreciate that this a little bit of a vague topic / stab in the dark but would appreciate any sort of advice - it's horrible waiting a minute each refresh to try out a change! Cheers, Sean.

• SQL statement HAVING MAX(some+thing)=some+thing

  I'm having trouble with Microsoft Access 2003, it's complaining about this statement: select cardnr from change where year(date)<2009 group by cardnr having max(time+date) = (time+date) and cardto='VIP' What I want to do is, for every distinct cardnr in the table change, to find the row with the latest (time+date) that is before year 2009, and then just select the rows with cardto='VIP'. This validator says it's OK, Access says it's not OK. This is the message I get: "you tried to execute a query that does not include the specified expression 'max(time+date)=time+date and cardto='VIP' and cardnr=' as part of an aggregate function." Could someone please explain what I'm doing wrong and the right way to do it? Thanks

• How can I get the width/height of a loaded swf's stage in AS2?

  I'm using MovieClipLoader to load an external as2 swf file into my as2 flash project, and I'm having trouble getting the original stage size of the loaded swf. When I run the following code: var popup:MovieClip = _root.createEmptyMovieClip("popup", 1); var loader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader(); var loadHandler:Object = new Object(); loader.addListener(loadHandler); loader.loadClip(url, popup); loadHandler.onLoadInit = function(mc:MovieClip) { trace(mc._width + ", " + mc._height); } I get strange width/height values (mc._width=601.95, mc._height=261.15) when what I actually want is the stage size of the loaded swf file, which in this case I know to be 300px x 250px.   Came across an SDK3.0 deprecation that I am having a bit of trouble tryinig to figure out. • C++ - Resources in static library question

  Hello! This isn't a duplicate of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/531502/vc-resources-in-a-static-library because it didn't help :) I have a static library with TWO .rc files in it's project. When I build my project using the Debug configuration, I retrieve the following error (MSVS2008): fatal error LNK1241: resource file res_yyy.res already specified Note, that this happens only in Debug and Release library builds without any troubles. The command line for Resources page in project configuration looks the same for every build: /fo"...(Path here)/Debug/project_name.res" /fo"...(Path here)/Release/project_name.res" and I can't understand what's the trouble. Any ideas? UPDATE I don't know why this happens, but when I turn "Use Link-Time Code Generation" option on the problem goes away. Could somebody explain why does this happen? I feel like MS-compiler is doing something really strange here. Thanks.

  Hi cloud of wisdom :-) I am facing some trouble trying to configure a particular configuration for a NumericUpDown control in c#. Basically, I have seen that I can set the Increment interval, but I would like to manage the Increment interval depending on which arrow is clicked (up or down). I have checked the events of the control, but I do not find an event for each arrow. Basically, I want to achieve a control where, at different values, the increment is different. from 0.00 to 5.00 increments of 0.01, from 5.00 to 20.00 increments of 0.04, and so on Is this possible ? Note: It would be useful also an historic value in the control for the last value when the valuechanged event is trigger. Does this exist? Thanks in advance for any comment or suggestion!!!

• Mysqli prepared insert statements always returning false

  I'm writing prepared statements that are supposed to insert data into a table, on a database that's been pre-selected in the variable $GLOBALS['mysqli']. The connection has been tested, and that's not the problem I'm having. I'm only running into trouble whenever my prepared statement involves INSERT INTO. I know the tablename, and field names are correct, but $stmt is ALWAYS false.   I'm having trouble locating BlackBerry techical specifications and their website is a mess. They also don't have a number that I can use to easily contact them. This isn't exactly a coding question, but what does the BlackBerry audio API look like, and where can I get technical specifications on audio? Specifically, I'm trying to find out more information on Audio-In, specifically, through the Mic-In on the 3.5 mm jack.   Here is a long string that I convert to a list so I can manipulate it, and then join it back together. I am having some trouble being able to have an iterator go through the list and when the iterator reach, let us say every 5th object, it should insert a '\n' right there. • Algorithm for calculating indefinite integrals

  Suppose I have an integral that's bounded on one (or both) ends by (-)infinity. AFAICT, I can't analytically solve this problem, it takes brute force (e.g. using a Left Riemann Sum). I'm having trouble generalizing the algorithm so that it sets the proper subdivisions; I'll either do far too much work to calculate something trivial, or not do nearly enough and have huge aliasing errors. Answering in any language is cool, but maybe someone with better google-fu can end this quickly. :) Is what I'm looking for as impossible as trying to measure the British coastline?

• Hibernate pluralization

  I have A MySQL database currently in production use for a CakePHP application A Java SE application accessing the same database via Hibernate, currently in development. I'm using the Netbeans "automigrate" feature to create the POJO classes and XML files (do I really need the XML files when using annotations?). As the schema is quite complex creating the tables manually is way too much work. Cake expects all DB tables to be pluralized (the Address class is automagically mapped to the addresses table). When running the Netbeans automigration it then does pluralization on the already pluralized table names (I'm getting Addresses.java and setAddresseses() methods). I know I'm asking for trouble running two very different data layers against the same database, but I'd like to know if it's possible to have Netbeans generating the POJO classes in singular form or if there is another (better) way to manage this.

  Hi, After many years of Windows development in C/C++ i've decided to make a move to linux, and see if i can put together a simple screen saver. The code is an SDL based OpenGL particle engine affair, nothing too complex. I've got the code running ok as a stand-alone app, but i have been having some trouble finding out how to build a screen saver app. I'm running ubuntu 10.04 if that makes much difference, but i was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a decent tutorial on building basic gnome screen savers. • Catching KeyboardInterrupt when working with PyGame

  I have written a small Python application where I use PyGame for displaying some simple graphics. I have a somewhat simple PyGame loop going in the base of my application, like so: stopEvent = Event() # Just imagine that this eventually sets the stopEvent # as soon as the program is finished with its task. disp = SortDisplay(algorithm, stopEvent) def update(): """ Update loop; updates the screen every few seconds. """ while True: stopEvent.wait(options.delay) disp.update() if stopEvent.isSet(): break disp.step() t = Thread(target=update) t.start() while not stopEvent.isSet(): for event in pygame.event.get(): if event.type == pygame.QUIT: stopEvent.set() It works all fine and dandy for the normal program termination; if the PyGame window gets closed, the application closes; if the application finishes its task, the application closes. The trouble I'm having is, if I Ctrl-C in the Python console, the application throws a KeyboardInterrupt, but keeps on running. The question would therefore be: What have I done wrong in my update loop, and how do I rectify it so a KeyboardInterrupt causes the application to terminate?

• Getting a unix timestamp as a string in C++

  I'm using the function time() in order to get a timestamp in C++, but, after doing so, I need to convert it to a string. I can't use ctime, as I need the timestamp itself (in its 10 character format). Trouble is, I have no idea what form a time_t variable takes, so I don't know what I'm converting it from. cout handles it, so it must be a string of some description, but I have no idea what. If anyone could help me with this it'd be much appreciated, I'm completely stumped. Alternately, can you provide the output of ctime to a MySQL datetime field and have it interpreted correctly? I'd still appreciate an answer to the first part of my question for understanding's sake, but this would solve my problem.

• How does Maven find a Artifact in a remote repository?

  I'm trying to create a maven plugin to generate a file with the URL to all the dependencies in a project. I have been able to get the dependencies and their artifact, but I'm having trouble getting the download URL. Using ArtifactResolver and ArticateMetadataSource I get some of the artifact information. However I fail to get all the information for all the dependencies. I haven't been able to find documentation on the resolution logic, so that I can call it form my plugin. I can use an ArtifactResolver to download the artifact, but what I really wanted was just the URL. The Maven Artifact API has a a method called getDownloadURL (see http://maven.apache.org/ref/2.0.4/maven-artifact/apidocs/org/apache/maven/artifact/Artifact.html). However I cant seem to find a way to get a real value into it. I always get a null value. Is there a way to have it resolved (downloading or not) and get the URL for where the file came from?

  I'm a computer science student and for this years project, I need to create and apply a Genetic Algorithm to something. I think Neural Networks would be a good thing to apply it to, but I'm having trouble understanding them. I fully understand the concepts but none of the websites out there really explain the following which is blocking my understanding: How the decision is made for how many nodes there are. What the nodes actually represent and do. What part the weights and bias actually play in classification. Could someone please shed some light on this for me? I'm developing simple web-app using richfaces and I'm facing the problem that when I deploy and run application in browser jboss shows just following message: This page contains the following errors: error on line 12 at column 16: internal error Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error. And that's all. No stacktrace! It's so uneasy to search for a source of problem. Could anyone help me to "turn on" stacktracing?

  Hi guys, I'm having trouble getting in touch with SQL Server Managemen Studio 2008! I want to create a link-table that will link an Event to many Audiences (EventAudience). An example of the data that could be contained: EventId | AudienceId 4 1 5 1 4 2 However, I don't want this: EventId | AudienceId 4 1 4 1 I've been looking at relationships and constraints.. but no joy so far! As a sneaky second part to the question, I would like to set up the Audience table such that if a row is deleted from Audience, it will clear down the EventAudience link table in a cascading manner. • hyperlink in firefox to windows share

  I am having trouble creating a hyperlink to a windows share, that works correctly in firefox and IE9. The original line was this: <a href="\\10.1.3.33\sharename\filename.txt" target="_new">Link</a> This works correctly in IE9, andopens the file as you would expect. However, this does not seem to work in firefox, as it just appends the above to the root directory, so it ends up looking in: /\10.1.3.33/sharename/filename I have tried as someone suggested and appending file:// to the pathname, but this does not seem to load anything in firefox, but does work in IE. Can anyone advise on what I should be using the get a link to a network share working in all browsers? Many thanks, Eds

  I'm having trouble reading and writing QByteArray data to a file. My goal is to save QPixmap data into a QByteArray and save that QByteArray to a file (with the ability to read this QByteArray back from the file and into a QPixmap). I want to use following code from the QPixmap documentation: QPixmap pixmap(<image path>); QByteArray bytes; QBuffer buffer(&bytes); buffer.open(QIODevice::WriteOnly); pixmap.save(&buffer, "PNG"); // writes pixmap into bytes in PNG format After writing the buffer to a file, I want to be able to retrieve the QByteArray and load it back into a QPixmap using the QPixmap::loadFromData() function. Please let me know if any further clarification is needed (I'm open to alternative approaches as well, I just need to be able to read and write the QPixmap to a file! :) );
