• Moving and renaming files, keeping extension but include sub directories in batch file

  Forgive me if this is nor the place to ask these questions, I am new to batch and scripts and a bit new to these kind of posts... I have a folder that will receive files and folders, I want to run a script that looks at the directory and renames all files in each subfolder numerically, and moves them if possible. For example I have something that looks like the following Recieved_File_Folder |_folder1 | |_file1.txt | |_file2.bmp |_folder2 | |_file4.exe | |_file5.bmp |__file9.txt |__file10.jpg I would like to be able to look in every directory and move it to something like this, keeping in mind the names of the files will be random and I want to keep the extension intact also. Renamed_Folder |_folder1 | |_1.txt | |_2.bmp |_folder2 | |_1.exe | |_2.bmp |__1.txt |__2.jpg I have spent alot of time on this and am not doing too well with it, any help would be very greatly appreciated!!   I have the following simple piece of code: var canvas = new Canvas(); foreach (var ztring in strings) { var textblock = new TextBlock(); textblock.Text = ztring; panel.Children.Add(textblock); textblock.Measure(infiniteSize); } At this point I would expect any of the size properties (Height/Width, ActualHeight/ActualWidth, DesiredSize, RenderSize) to give me the size of the textblock. None of them do. ActualHeight always gives 16.0 no matter what size font. ActualWidth changes according to the text length but not the font size. I change the font size on the parent container and not the TextBlock itself. I feel like I am missing some basic element of understanding the manipulation of silverlight elements from within the codebehind. The question is: how do I get the real actual pixel size of my TextBlock?

  I am trying to map a drive using a batch file. I have tried: net use m: \Server01\myfolder /USER:mynetwork\Administrator "Mypassword" /persistent:yes It works fine. The problem comes when I try to map a folder with spaces on its name: net use m: \Server01\my folder /USER:mynetwork\Administrator "Mypassword" /persistent:yes I have tried using quotes, using myfold~1 but nothing works. An easy way would be renaming the folder but I have it mapped in more than 300 workstations so is not a very good idea. PLEASE HELP!!!

  I have a bat file which sets some environment variables, and then executes a command on the command line. I want to replace the hard coded command with one passed in via a parameter. So: :: Set up the required environment SET some_var=a SET another_var=b CALL some.bat :: Now call the command passed into this batch file %1 The problem is that the command is complex, and doesn't escape cleanly. It looks like this: an.exe -p="path with spaces" -t="some text" -f="another path with spaces" I'm trying to call the .bat from a .NET framework app, using: Dim cmd as String = "the cmd" System.Diagnostics.Process.Start( thebat.exe, cmd ) but I can't seem to get the escapes to work correctly. Can someone tell me how the string cmd should be entetered to get the command passed into the bat file as an argument correctly?

  I'm currently writing a tiny webapp for my HTPC (actually, a PC serving as both a media player and web- / fileserver) that will allow me to remotely control the playing of audio, without having to turn on my TV just to switch songs. I'm using Windows Media Player as my audio player of choice, and I thought I could control it through PHP's COM Class. Unfortunately, I've not been able to find any documentation or examples on controlling WMP through this interface. Can anyone point me in the right direction here? A second (and much less preferable) solution would be to use PHP's exec() call to start batch files that, in turn, control WMP.

  The batch file is something like this, I put the python in some directory that has SPACE character in its path.   I need to sort alot of files based on their filename. I would like to use a batch file to do it. I do know what I want but I am not sure of the correct syntax. Example of filenames I work with: (They are all in the same directory originally) 2012_W34_Sales_Store001.pdf 2012_W34_Sales_Store002.pdf 2012_W34_Sales_Store003.pdf 2012_November_Sales_Store001.pdf 2012_November_Sales_Store002.pdf 2012_November_Sales_Store003.pdf I would like to extract the information that are located between the "_" signs and put them into a different variable each time. The lenght of the informations contained between the _ signs will be different everytime. Example: var1="2012" var2="W34" (or November) var3="Sales" var4="001" If I am able to do this, I could then copy the files to the appropriate directory using move %var1%_%var2%_%var3%_%var4%.pdf z:\%var3%\%var4%\%var1%\%var2% It would need to loop because I have Store001 to Store050. Also, there are not only Sales report, many others are available. I hope I am clear. Please help me realize this batchfile!

The problematic script looks like this: if defined _OLD_VIRTUAL_PATH ( set PATH=%_OLD_VIRTUAL_PATH% ) When I run it and _OLD_VIRTUAL_PATH is set I get: \Microsoft was unexpected at this time. _OLD_VIRTUAL_PATH is a variable that was originally set from PATH and it contains spaces - I'm pretty sure that's the problem. But what's the solution? It runs successfully if I enclose it in quotes, but I don't think the entire value of the PATH variable is supposed to be in quotes.

When I supply UserID with this code, the program is promptly exiting. I know it has something to do with the if statement. Is this not possible to nest flow control inside the for-loop?   I found some code to delete folders, in this case deleting all but 'n' # of folders. I created 10 test folders, plus 1 that was already there. I want to delete all but 4. The code works, it leaves 4 of my test folders, except that it also leaves the other folder. Is there some attribute of the other folder that's getting checked in the batch file that's stopping it from getting deleted ? It was created through a job a couple of weeks ago.   I need to upload a .csv file and save the records in bigtable. My application successfully parse 200 the records in the csv files and save to table.   Ok, so I need to populate a MS Access database table with results from a MySQL query. That's not hard at all. I've got the program written to where it copies a template .mdb file to a temp name and opens it via odbc. No problem so far. I've noticed that Access does not support batch inserting (VALUES (foo, bar), (second, query), (third query)). So that means I need to execute one query per row (there are potentially hundreds of thousands of rows). Initial performance tests show a rate of around 900 inserts/sec into Access. With our largest data sets, that could mean execution times of minutes (Which isn't the end of the world, but obviously the faster the better). So, I tried testing a prepared statement. But I keep getting an error (Warning: odbc_execute() [function.odbc-execute]: SQL error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]COUNT field incorrect , SQL state 07001 in SQLExecute in D:\....php on line 30). Here's the code I'm using (Line 30 is odbc_execute): $sql = 'INSERT INTO table ([field0], [field1], [field2], [field3], [field4], [field5]) VALUES (?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?)'; $stmt = odbc_prepare($conn, $sql); for ($i = 200001; $i < 300001; $i++) { $a = array($i, "Field1 $", "Field2 $i", "Field3 $i", "Field4 $i", $i); odbc_execute($stmt, $a); } So my question is two fold. First, is there any idea on why I'm getting that error (I've checked, and the number in the array matches the field list which matches the number of parameter ? markers)? And second, should I even bother with this or just use the straight INSERT statements? Like I said, time isn't critical, but if it's possible, I'd like to get that time as low as possible (Then again, I may be limited by disk throughput, since 900 operations/sec is high already)...   Hello, I am trying to find a way of monitoring directories in Perl, in particular the size of a directory, and upon detecting a change in directory size, perform a particular action. The issue I have is with large files that require a noticeable amount of time to copy into this directory, i.e. 100MB. What happens (in Windows, not Unix) is the system reserves enough disk space for the entire file, even though the file is still copying in progress. This causes problems for me, because my script will try to perform an action on this file that has not finished copying over. I can easily detect directory size changes in Unix via 'du', but 'du' in Windows does not behave the same way. Are there any accurate methods of detecting directory size changes in Perl? Edit: Some points to clarify: - My Perl script is only monitoring a particular directory, and upon detecting a new file or a new directory, perform an action on this new file or directory. It is not copying any files; users on the network will be copying files into the directory I am monitoring. - The problem occurs when a new file or directory appears (copied, not moved) that is significantly large ( 100MB, but usually a couple GB) and my program fires before this copy completes - In Unix I can easily 'du' to see that the file/directory in question is growing in size, and take the appropriate action - In Windows the size is static, so I cannot detect this change - opendir/readdir/closedir is not feasible, as some of the directories that appear may contain thousands of files, and I want to avoid the overhead of Ideally I would like my program to be triggered on change, but I am not sure how to do this. As of right now it busy waits until it detects a change. The change in file/directory size is not in my control.

Unfortunatelly, the sizes of these files do not update as the logs grow, unless it would appear the files are touched. I usually use hacks like the following from Cygwin to "touch" the file so that its file size updates: stat file.txt or head -c0 file.txt Are there any native Windows constructs that can refresh the file size from the command prompt, as unintrusively as possible and preferrably without transferring any (remote) data, since I often need to refresh the sizes of very large files remotely, to see how large they have grown.
