  • How to go about signing text in a verifiable way from within ruby in a simple yet strong & portable

    - by roja
Guys, I have been looking for a portable method to digitally sign arbitrary text which can be placed in a document and distributed while maintaining its verifiable origin. Here is an example: a = 'some text' a.sign(<private key>) # => <some signature in ASCII format> The contents of a can now be distributed freely. If a receiver wants to check the validity of said text they can do the following: b = 'some text' b.valid(<public key>, <signature supplied with text>) # => true/false Is there any library out there that already offers this kind of functionality? Ruby standard library contains SHA hashing code so at lest there is a portable way to perform the hashing but from that point I am struggling to find anything which fits purpose. Kind Regards, Roja

  • Has anyone succeeded in converting files to the mpg-format that a Sony Digital Camera can play?

    - by user645552
I'm trying to play a mpeg movie on my Sony Cybershot digital camera, it's from a DV-camera converted to MPEG1. But sony refuses to play it with File error. The only files sony can play are from my previous Sony camera. The other way around gives no problem, the movies the camera takes play on various software media players. Has anyone succeeded in converting files to the mpg-format that a Sony Digital Camera can play?

  • How to get scripted programs governing game entities run in parallel with a game loop?

    - by Jim
I recently discovered Crobot which is (briefly) a game where each player codes a virtual robot in a pseudo-C language. Each robot is then put in an arena where it fights against other robots. A robots' source code has this shape : /* Beginning file robot.r */ main() { while (1) { /* Do whatever you want */ ... move(); ... fire(); } } /* End file robot.r */ You can see that : The code is totally independent from any library/include Some predefined functions are available (move, fire, etc…) The program has its own game loop, and consequently is not called every frame My question is: How to achieve a similar result using scripted languages in collaboration with a C/C++ main program ? I found a possible approach using Python, multi-threading and shared memory, although I am not sure yet that it is possible this way. TCP/IP seems a bit too complicated for this kind of application.

  • Where will the image be saved? [closed]

    - by Dummy Derp
import java.awt.Dimension; import java.awt.Rectangle; import java.awt.Robot; import java.awt.Toolkit; import java.awt.image.BufferedImage; import javax.imageio.ImageIO; import java.io.File; ... public void captureScreen(String fileName) throws Exception { Dimension screenSize = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenSize(); Rectangle screenRectangle = new Rectangle(screenSize); Robot robot = new Robot(); BufferedImage image = robot.createScreenCapture(screenRectangle); ImageIO.write(image, "png", new File(fileName)); } ... Going over this code I found on the internet. I got everything except the part where file is created. In what format file name should be? Should it be C:/myFolder/myImage.png" or just myImage.png and where will it be saved? Here is what docs say: File public File(String pathname) Creates a new File instance by converting the given pathname string into an abstract pathname. If the given string is the empty string, then the result is the empty abstract pathname. Parameters: pathname - A pathname string Throws: NullPointerException - If the pathname argument is null

  • Is Flash a secure content delivery technology for password protected digital content?

    - by Merkel Fastia
We are working on a project that would be a competitor to Yudu for online publishing and what we are debating is whether to use Flash for content security protection as Yudu does. See for example "The Testicle Cookbok" for which a limited (3-frame) preview is available before a password is requested by the Flash application running in the browser. Do you see any problems with this approach or could you recommend an alternative technology for password proected digital content?

  • How to make new file permission inherit from the parent directory?

    - by Wai Yip Tung
I have a directory called data. Then I am running a script under the user id 'robot'. robot writes to the data directory and update files inside. The idea is data is open for both me and robot to update. So I setup the permission and owner group like this drwxrwxr-x 2 me robot-grp 4096 Jun 11 20:50 data where both me and robot belongs to the 'robot-grp'. I change the permission and the owner group recursively like the parent directory. I regularly upload new files into the data directory using rsync. Unfortunately, new files uploaded does not inherit the parent directory's permission as I hope. Instead it looks like this -rw-r--r-- 1 me users 6 Jun 11 20:50 new-file.txt When robot tries to update new-file.txt, it fails due to lack of file permission. I'm not sure if setting umask helps. In anycase the new files does not really follow it. $ umask -S u=rwx,g=rx,o=rx I'm often confounded by Unix file permission. Do I even have a right plan? I'm using Debian lenny.

  • Help with create action in a different show page

    - by Andrew
Hi, I'm a Rails newbie and want to do something but keep messing something up. I'd love some help. I have a simple app that has three tables. Users, Robots, and Recipients. Robots belong_to users and Recipients belong_to robots. On the robot show page, I want to be able to create recipients for that robot right within the robot show page. I have the following code in the robot show page which lists current recipients: <table> <% @robot.recipients.each do |recipient| %> <tr> <td><b><%=h recipient.chat_screen_name %></b> via <%=h recipient.protocol_name</td> <td><%= link_to 'Edit', edit_recipient_path(recipient) %>&nbsp;</td> <td><%= link_to 'Delete', recipient, :confirm => 'Are you sure?', :method => :delete %></td> </tr> <% end %> </table> What I'd like to do is have an empty field in which the user can add a new recipient, and have tried the following: I added this to the Robots Show view: <% form_for(@robot.recipient) do |f| %> Enter the screen name<br> <%= f.text_field :chat_screen_name %> <p> <%= f.submit 'Update' %> </p> <% end %> and then this to the Robot controller in the show action: @recipient = Recipient.new @recipients = Recipient.all Alas, I'm still getting a NoMethod error that says: "undefined method `recipient' for #" I'm not sure what I'm missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Binding the selected value from a combobox to a member of a class.

    - by CM
I have a combobox that is bound to a an instance of a class. I need to get the user's selection ID of the combobox and set a class property equal to it. For example, here is the class: public class robot { private string _ID; private string _name; private string _configFile; [XmlElement("hardware")] public hardware[] hardware; public string ID { get { return _ID; } set { _ID = value; } } public string name { get { return _name; } set { _name = value; } } public string configFile { get { return _configFile; } set { _configFile = value; } } } Now here is the code to bind the combobox to an instance of that class. This display's the name of each robot in the array in the combobox. private void SetupDevicesComboBox() { robot[] robot = CommConfig.robot; cmbDevices.DataSource = robot; cmbDevices.DisplayMember = "name"; cmbDevices.ValueMember = "ID"; } But now I can't seem to take what the user selects and use it. How do I use the "ID" of what the user select's from the combobox? Settings.selectedRobotID = cmbDevices.ValueMember; //This just generates "ID" regardless of what is selected. I also tried Settings.selectedRobotID = cmbDevices.SelectedItem.ToString(); //This just generates "CommConfig.robot" Thanks

  • What is the best solution for letting both Macs and PCs access digital images and videos on a networ

    - by Gertbert
I'm looking for a simple way to share digital images and videos over a network to both Macs and PCs. I'm currently looking into three options: NAS, WD MyBook Mirror drives attached to a router, or an HP WHS product like the Data Vault. I'm looking for something easy to implement that allows for drive mirroring but also has good performance for both Macs and PCS. I've read that the HP WHS devices rebalance on their own schedules, making them useless for streaming video, and hope someone can definitively confirm or deny this as it's a dealbreaker if true. Any other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

  • The Internet of Things & Commerce: Part 3 -- Interview with Kristen J. Flanagan, Commerce Product Management

    - by Katrina Gosek, Director | Commerce Product Strategy-Oracle
Internet of Things & Commerce Series: Part 3 (of 3) And now for the final installment my three part series on the Internet of Things & Commerce. Post one, “The Next 7,000 Days”, introduced the idea of the Internet of Things, followed by a second post interviewing one of our chief commerce innovation strategists, Brian Celenza.  This final post in the series is an interview with Kristen J. Flanagan, lead product manager for Oracle Commerce omnichannel strategy. She takes us through the past, present, and future of how our Commerce Solution is re-imagining the way physical and digital shopping come together. ------- QUESTION: It’s your job to stay on top of what our customers’ need to not only run their online businesses effectively, but also to make sure they have product capabilities they can innovate and grow on. What key trend has been top-of-mind for you and our customers around this collision of physical and digital shopping? Kristen: I’ll agree with Brian Celenza that hands down mobile has forced a major disruption in shopping and selling behavior. A few years ago, mobile exploded at a pace I don't think anyone was expecting. Early on, we saw our customers scrambling to establish a mobile presence---mostly through "screen scraping" technologies. As smartphones continued to advance (at lightening speed!), our customers started to investigate ways to truly tap in to their eCommerce capabilities to deliver the mobile experience. They started looking to us for a means of using the eCommerce services and capabilities to deliver a mobile experience that is tailored for mobile rather than the desktop experience on a smaller screen. In the future, I think we'll see customers starting to really understand what their shoppers need and expect from a mobile offering and how they can adapt their content and delivery of that content to meet those needs. And, mobile shopping doesn’t stop at the consumer / buyer. Because the in-store experience is compelling and has advantages that digital just can't offer, we're also starting to see the eCommerce services being leveraged for mobile for in-store sales associates. Brick-and-mortar retailers are interested in putting the omnichannel product catalog, promotions, and cart into the hands of knowledgeable associates. Retailers are now looking to connect and harness the eCommerce data in-store so that shoppers have a reason to walk-in. I think we'll be seeing a lot more customers thinking about melding the in-store and digital experiences to present a richer offering for shoppers.    QUESTION: What are some examples of what our customers are doing currently to bring these concepts to reality? Kristen: Well, without question, connecting digital and brick-and-mortar worlds is becoming tablestakes for selling experiences. If a brand has a foot in both worlds (i.e., isn’t a pureplay online retailer), they have to connect the dots because shoppers – whether consumers or B2B buyers –don't think in clearly defined channels anymore. The expectation is connectedness – for on- and offline experiences, promotions, products, and customer data. What does this mean practically for businesses selling goods on- and offline? It touches a lot of systems: inventory info on the eCommerce site, fulfillment options across channels (buy online/pickup in store), order information (representing various channels for a cohesive view of shopper order history), promotions across digital and store, etc.  A few years ago, the main link between store and digital was the smartphone. We all remember when “apps” became a thing and many of our customers were scrambling to get a native app out there. Now we're seeing more strategic thinking around the benefits of mobile web vs. native and how that ties in to the purpose and role of mobile within the digital channel. Put it more broadly, how these pieces fit together in the overall brand puzzle.  The same could be said for “showrooming.” Where it was a major concern (i.e., shoppers using stores to look at merchandise and then order online from Amazon), in recent months, it’s emerged that the inverse is now becoming a a reality as well. "Webrooming" (using digital sites to do research before making a purchase in the store) is a new behavior pure play retailers are challenged with. There are many technologies, behaviors, and information that need to tie together to offer a holistic omnichannel shopping experience. As a result, brands are looking for ways to connect the digital and in-store experiences to bridge the gaps: shared assortments across channels, assisted selling apps that arm associates with information about shoppers, shared promotions, inventory, etc. QUESTION: How has Oracle Commerce been built to help brands make the link between in-store and digital over the last few years? Kristen: Over the last seven years, the product has been in step with the changes in industry needs. Here is a brief history of the evolution: Prior to Oracle’s acquisition of ATG and Endeca, key investments were made to cross-channel functionality that we are still building on today. Commerce Service Center (v2007.1) ATG introduced the Commerce Service Center in 2007.1 and marked the first entry into what was then called “cross-channel.” The Commerce Service Center is a call-center-agent-facing application that enables agents to see shopper orders, online catalog, promotions, and pricing. It is tightly integrated with the eCommerce capabilities of the platform and commerce engine and provided a means of connecting data from the call center and online channels.  REST services framework (v9.1)  In v9.1 we introduced the REST services framework and interface in the Platform that enabled customers to use ATG web services in other applications. This framework has become the basis for our subsequent omni-channel features and functionality. Multisite Architecture (v10) With the v10 release, we introduced the Multisite Architecture, which enabled customers to manage multiple sites (and channels) within a single instance of the BCC. Customers could create site- and channel-specific catalogs, promotions, targeters, and scenarios. Endeca Page Builder (2.x) / Experience Manager (3.x) With the introduction of Endeca for Mobile (now part of the core platform, available through the reference store – see blow) on top of Page Builder (and then eventually Experience Manager), Endeca gave business users the tools to create and manage native and mobile web applications. And since the acquisition of both ATG (2011) and Endeca (2012), Oracle Commerce has leveraged the best of each leading technology’s capabilities for omnichannel commerce to continue to drive innovation for our customers. Service enablement of core Oracle Commerce capabilities (v10.1.1, 10.2, & 11) After the establishment of the REST services framework and interface, we followed up in subsequent releases with service enablement of core Oracle Commerce capabilities throughout the iOS native app and the enablement of the core Commerce Service Center features. The result is that customers can leverage these services for their integrations with other systems, as well as their omnichannel initiatives.  Mobile web reference application (v10.1) In 10.1 we introduced the shopper-facing mobile reference application that showed how to use Oracle Commerce to deliver a mobile web experience for shoppers. This included the use of Experience Manager and cartridges to drive those experiences on select pages.  Native (iOS) reference application (v10.1.1)  We came out with the 10.1.1 shopper-facing native iOS ref app that illustrated how to use the Commerce REST services to deliver an iOS app. Also included Experience Manager-driven pages.   Assisted Selling reference application (v10.2.1)  The Assisted Selling reference application is our first reference application designed for the in-store associate. This iOS app shows customers how they can use Oracle Commerce data and information to provide a high-touch, consultative sales environment as well as to put the endless aisle into hands of their associates. Shoppers can start a cart online, and in-store associates can access that cart via the application to provide more information or add products and then transact using the ATG engine. Support for Retail promotions (v11) As part of the v11 release, we worked with teams in the Oracle Retail Global Business Unit (RGBU) to assess which promotion types and capabilities are supported across our products. Those products included Oracle Commerce, Oracle Point of Service (ORPOS), and Oracle Retail Price Management (RPM). The result is that customers can now more easily support omnichannel use cases between the store and digital.  Making sure Oracle Commerce can help support the omnichannel needs of our customers is core to our product strategy. With 89% of consumers now use two or more channels to make a single purchase, ensuring that cross-channel interactions are linked is critical to a great customer experience – and to sales. As Oracle Commerce evolves, we want to make it simple for organizations to create, deliver, and scale experiences across touchpoints with our create once, deploy commerce anywhere framework. We have a flexible, services-oriented architecture that allows data, content, catalogs, cart, experiences, personalization, and merchandising to be shared across touchpoints and easily extended in to new environments like mobile, social, in-store, Call Center, and new Websites. [For the latest downloads and Oracle Commerce documentation, please visit the Oracle Technical Network.] ------ Thank you to both Brian and Kristen for their contributions and to this blog series and their continued thought leadership for Oracle Commerce. We are all looking forward to the coming years of months of new shopping behaviors and opportunities to innovate. Because – if the digital fabric of our everyday lives continues to change at the same pace – the next five years (that just under 2,000 days), will be dramatic. ---------- THIS DOCUMENT IS FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY AND MAY NOT BE INCORPORATED INTO A CONTRACT OR AGREEMENT

  • How to slave a 3.5" 500gb SATA external hard drive (Western Digital) to my Dell Inspiron laptop

    - by AJ HDD
I have a 3.5" Western Digital My Book 500gb external hard drive. I gave it to a friend of mine, and he broke the USB port in it. I went to a nearby comp repair shop and had him solder the thing, and it didn't detect when it when I plugged it into my Dell Inspiron laptop. I recently saw about the 3.5" SATA to USB enclosure, so I went to check it. Strangely, when its placed in the enclosure, its not detecting in Windows. Also, when it was put as secondary (I'm guessing slave) to the shop fellow's desktop, it shows up in the BIOS and while starting, but then again doesn't show in Windows 7. The guy told me that I need to use a data recovery tool to get my data back. P.S. Whe WD hard drive doesnt have an OS, just data. So my question is: Can I slave the drive to my Dell laptop and try to recover the data, and if so how? I would really appreciate it any help, thanks in advance.

    I was wondering if someone could tell me what I am doing wrong that I get this Unhandled Exception error message: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x0000000c. with a green pointer pointing at my first Prolog code (fid_t): Here is my header file: class UserTaskProlog { public: UserTaskProlog( ArRobot* r ); ~UserTaskProlog( ); protected: int cycles; char* argv[ 1 ]; term_t tf; term_t tx; term_t goal_term; functor_t goal_functor; ArRobot* robot; void logTask( ); }; And here is my main code: UserTaskProlog::UserTaskProlog( ArRobot* r ) : robot( r ), robotTaskFunc( this, &UserTaskProlog::logTask ) { cycles = 0; argv[ 0 ] = "libpl.dll"; argv[ 1 ] = NULL; PL_initialise( 1, argv ); PlCall( "consult( 'myPrologFile.pl' )" ); robot->addSensorInterpTask( "UserTaskProlog", 50, &robotTaskFunc ); } UserTaskProlog::~UserTaskProlog( ) { robot->remSensorInterpTask( &robotTaskFunc ); } void UserTaskProlog::logTask( ) { cycles++; fid_t fid = PL_open_foreign_frame( ); tf = PL_new_term_ref( ); PL_put_integer( tf, 5 ); tx = PL_new_term_ref( ); goal_term = PL_new_term_ref( ); goal_functor = PL_new_functor( PL_new_atom( "factorial" ), 2 ); PL_cons_functor( goal_term, goal_functor, tf, tx ); int fact; if ( PL_call( goal_term, NULL ) ) { PL_get_integer( tx, &fact ); cout << fact << endl; } PL_discard_foreign_frame( fid ); } int main( int argc, char** argv ) { ArRobot robot; ArArgumentParser argParser( &argc, argv ); UserTaskProlog talk( &robot ); } Thank you,

  • No HDMI Audio with GeForce 9600GT and nForce board

    - by Bobby
I've been trying to get HDMI with sound working for the last few days, and I'm a little bit out of ideas. (I've verified that the hardware/Setup works via Windows.) aplay does not list my HDMI device: $ aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: ALC662 rev1 Analog [ALC662 rev1 Analog] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 1: ALC662 rev1 Digital [ALC662 rev1 Digital] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 I've already compiled the alsa drivers (1.0.24) from a snapshot (with --with-oss=no) and added the line options snd-hda-intel model=auto # Tried 3stack-dig and 6stack-dig too to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. Still, the device does not show up. If it is important, the HDMI TV is at the moment not configured to be part of the X session (I've tried that to, at least with X restart, and it didn't change anything). What did I miss? $ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: nVidia Corporation Device 07c3 (rev a2) 00:00.1 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce 630i memory controller (rev a2) 00:01.0 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce 630i memory controller (rev a1) 00:01.1 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce 630i memory controller (rev a1) 00:01.2 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce 630i memory controller (rev a1) 00:01.3 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce 630i memory controller (rev a1) 00:01.4 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce 630i memory controller (rev a1) 00:01.5 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce 630i memory controller (rev a1) 00:01.6 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce 630i memory controller (rev a1) 00:02.0 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation nForce 630i memory controller (rev a1) 00:03.0 ISA bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP73 LPC Bridge (rev a2) 00:03.1 SMBus: nVidia Corporation MCP73 SMBus (rev a1) 00:03.2 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation MCP73 Memory Controller (rev a1) 00:03.4 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation MCP73 Memory Controller (rev a1) 00:04.0 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 7100/nForce 630i USB (rev a1) 00:04.1 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation MCP73 [nForce 630i] USB 2.0 Controller (EHCI) (rev a1) 00:08.0 IDE interface: nVidia Corporation MCP73 IDE (rev a1) 00:09.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP73 High Definition Audio (rev a1) 00:0a.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP73 PCI Express bridge (rev a1) 00:0b.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP73 PCI Express bridge (rev a1) 00:0c.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP73 PCI Express bridge (rev a1) 00:0d.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP73 PCI Express bridge (rev a1) 00:0e.0 IDE interface: nVidia Corporation MCP73 IDE (rev a2) 00:0f.0 Ethernet controller: nVidia Corporation MCP73 Ethernet (rev a2) 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G94 [GeForce 9600 GT] (rev a1)   $ aplay -L default pulse Playback/recording through the PulseAudio sound server front:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0 HDA NVidia, ALC662 rev1 Analog Front speakers surround40:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0 HDA NVidia, ALC662 rev1 Analog 4.0 Surround output to Front and Rear speakers surround41:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0 HDA NVidia, ALC662 rev1 Analog 4.1 Surround output to Front, Rear and Subwoofer speakers surround50:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0 HDA NVidia, ALC662 rev1 Analog 5.0 Surround output to Front, Center and Rear speakers surround51:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0 HDA NVidia, ALC662 rev1 Analog 5.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Rear and Subwoofer speakers surround71:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0 HDA NVidia, ALC662 rev1 Analog 7.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Side, Rear and Woofer speakers iec958:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0 HDA NVidia, ALC662 rev1 Digital IEC958 (S/PDIF) Digital Audio Output dmix:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0 HDA NVidia, ALC662 rev1 Analog Direct sample mixing device dmix:CARD=NVidia,DEV=1 HDA NVidia, ALC662 rev1 Digital Direct sample mixing device dsnoop:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0 HDA NVidia, ALC662 rev1 Analog Direct sample snooping device dsnoop:CARD=NVidia,DEV=1 HDA NVidia, ALC662 rev1 Digital Direct sample snooping device hw:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0 HDA NVidia, ALC662 rev1 Analog Direct hardware device without any conversions hw:CARD=NVidia,DEV=1 HDA NVidia, ALC662 rev1 Digital Direct hardware device without any conversions plughw:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0 HDA NVidia, ALC662 rev1 Analog Hardware device with all software conversions plughw:CARD=NVidia,DEV=1 HDA NVidia, ALC662 rev1 Digital Hardware device with all software conversions
