  Hi i've tried the following to find the referrer in MSIE / IE7 and IE8 but its returning blank each time; PHP: <? echo $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']; ?> JAVASCRIPT: document.write('Thanks for visiting from ' + document.referrer); Does any know what the issue could be I'm referering using document.location from a page on another domain and work fine with all other browsers minus MSIE. Any help would be great!

• CSS width fills out in IE8 Compatibility mode, works as it should in normal mode

• sIFR: page refresh causes background images problems in IE8

  I'm using sIFR 3 r436. When a page is reloaded, and often also on load, in IE8 the background image does'nt appear completely. When clicking on an intern link the background is displayed correctly. Google Chrome has also minor problems in displaying.   With such a large platform, Windows Azure has a lot of moving parts. We’ve done our best to keep the interface as simple as possible, while giving you the most control and visibility we can. However, as with most Microsoft products, there are multiple ways to do something – and I’ve always found that to be a good strength. Depending on the situation, I might want a graphical interface, a command-line interface, or just an API so I can incorporate the management into my own tools, or have third-party companies write other tools. While by no means exhaustive, I thought I might put together a quick list of a few tools you can use to manage and monitor Windows Azure components, from our IaaS, SaaS and PaaS offerings. Some of the products focus on one area more than another, but all are available today. I’ll try and maintain this list to keep it current, but make sure you check the date of this post’s update – if it’s more than six months old, it’s most likely out of date. The Windows Azure Management Portal The primary tool for managing Windows Azure is our portal – most everything you need is there, from creating new services to querying a database. • How to delete Analytics property from list in Webmaster Tools?

  When I look at the Google Analytics Property page in Webmaster Tools (where you associate a Google Analytics web property with a Webmaster Tools site), I see a list of a bunch of properties with weird names. They are test properties from when we were trying things out years ago. I can't view them or change their name in Analytics because they don't exist there. All their profiles were deleted years ago. Is there a way to remove these from the list in Webmaster Tools? Or, alternatively, a way to view them again in Analytics so I can give them a better name, at least. I know this doesn't matter in the big scheme of things, but I hate clutter.

• The HTML5 doctype is not triggering standards mode in IE8

  i work for a company where all our sites currently use the XHTML 1.0 transitional doctype (yes i know it is very old school). I want to change them all to use the HTML5 doctype seeing as it is backwards compatible. One of the reasons why i want to make the switch is because in IE8 if someone has the developer tools installed then the old XHTML doctype switches the browser into compatibility mode and renders the page as IE7. From reading up on it i was led to believe that the HTML5 doctype will set any page to render in standards mode, but this is not happening when i test it on our staging server it still flips into IE7 rendering mode. The weird thing is if i save the page with HTML5 doctype locally and open it, it is rendering in IE8 standards mode. There must be something else causing it to drop into compatibility IE7 rendering. Any ideas what this could be? • Why would javascript click-areas not be working in IE8?

  I'm trying to find a bug in an old ASP.NET application which causes IE8 to not be able to click on the following "button" area in our application: <td width="150px" class="ctl00_CP1_UiCommandManager1i toolBarItem" valign="middle" onmouseout="onMouseOverCommand(this,1,'ctl00_CP1_UiCommandManager1',0,0);" onmouseover="onMouseOverCommand(this,0,'ctl00_CP1_UiCommandManager1',0,0);" onmousedown="onMouseDownCommand(this, 'ctl00_CP1_UiCommandManager1', 0, 0);" onmouseup="onMouseUpCommand(this, 'ctl00_CP1_UiCommandManager1', 0, 0);" id="ctl00_CP1_UiCommandManager1_0_0"> <span style="width:100%;overflow:hidden;text-overflow:ellipsis;vertical-align:middle;white-space:nowrap;"> NEW </span> </td> When we switch IE8 to IE7 compatibility mode, the problem disappears, IE7 is able to click on it. Since the above HTML is generated by a third party control (Janus, http://www.janusys.com/controls), we don't have the source code. has anyone experienced any similar problems with IE8? I've determined that it actually fires the onMouseDownCommand command also the CSS of the button area is different in IE8, it doesn't have color shading that it does in IE7. I can imagine that somewhere the HTML is not valid and IE8 being stricter is not playing along, but where? any advice on how to narrow in on this bug welcome ANSWER: Turned out to be that the application was not checking the navigator.agent for "MSIE 8.0" and was thus treating IE8 has a non-Internet-Explorer browser. Thanks Lazarus for the tip, the IE8 Javascript debugger is very nice, like a Firebug for IE, will be using it more!

• z-index not working in IE8 with the sortable jQuery plugin

  I'm working with the jQuery Sortable plugin to drag and drop images from one box to another box. This works fine in ff,chrome and safari but it fails in IE8. It seems that when you start dragging that the image is send to the back. I've tried to solve this by adding the z-index option to the sortable plugin, i've tried appending it to a node higher in the hierarchy (body). It appears that setting a z-index on every other item in the page would fix this, haven't tried it yet and i'm not planning on doing this because this would mess up alot.   Hi, I wanted to design a project in linux which could contain programming languages(C, perl, PHP, HTML, XML etc) basically a web based project. Why i have chosen to build on Linux is because it is Open Source, and lot many things can be automated through scripting languages, which in windows i don't know. So, i have installed linux on a virtual machine(Host-Windows 2007 & Guest Linux CentOS), CentOS(command line interface). Since i am a beginner, so I want to know what all tools can be used to facilitate and ease my development process. Some which i know are listed below, and request you to please share your experience on this. 1) Using Putty so that can access the Linux machine from anywhere within the network. 2) Since i want to develop on Linux, but want to use windows as developing platform. So have downloaded Eclipse Editor (C/PHP) on windows. But want to know how can i access linux files from here?? 3) Installed Samba, and still trying to figure out how can i access linux files remotely on Windows. 4) Please share your experience, as how can i ease my development process. and what all tools i can use..?? • IE8 Jquery Javascript "Error: Object required" Bug

  IE8 throws an "Error: Object required" message (error in the actual jquery library script, not my javascript file) when the switch statement in this function runs. This code works in IE6, IE7, FF3, and Safari... Any ideas? Does it have something to do with the '$(this)' selector in the switch? • IE8 + Jquery ajax call giving parsererror : for json data which seems valid in Firefox

  The ajax call works fine in FF. the data returned is in JSON here is an example from FF firebug - {"noProfiles": "No profiles have been created, lets start now !"} When I try to print the error in IE8 (& in compatibility modes as well), it says "parsererror". But the output seems to be valid JSON. Here is the ajax function call I'm making. • Having trouble with fadeIn and fadeOut in IE8 with jQuery

  Guys, Here is my site: http://www.dreamweddinggroup.com/redesign and I'm having a hell of a tough time figuring out why in gods name my fadeIn, fadeOut and corner() functions won't work in IE8. They were working for a time, but now they have broken and I can't for the life of me figure it out. Can anybody see anything that would cause the problem here? To see what I'm talking about, if you were to click on the "About Us" link at the bottom of the page, you should see the text fade in. Then if you were to click on "Why Dream Wedding Group", the "About Us" text should fade out, and when it fades back in, you would see the new text. Thank you, Joe
