I wonder if there are any tools that can simplify producing cheat sheets with a standard but beautiful layout. It might be a template document or a generator software if there is some. For example, a good looking, open source, cheat sheet template written in Latex or some other desktop publishing software would be very useful.

Radio button formatting in IE8 (not displaying correctly)

I'm having a problem with getting my radio buttons laid out (and checkboxes) correctly in IE8 .. Firefox, Chrome, Opera all working however .. sIfr (3.436) and IE8 - My h1 and h2 are flickering

I am using sIfr (3.436) for my H1 and H2 tags. In IE8 the text flickers and jumps around alot. Any help to lead in the right direction is appreciated! Javascript "Member not found" error in IE8

I'm trying to debug the following block of Javascript code to see what the issue is. IE8 problems with .animate() of opacity property - descendant remains opaque throughout

Basically I have something like this: <ul> <li> <a> <div class="trigger-layer"></div> <div class="title-layer">Text here</div> <div class="hover-layer"></div> </a> </li> </ul> I use jQuery to animate the <ul> as follow: $ul = xxx (where I assign the selector to var $ul) $ul.animate({opacity: 0}, 1000, function() {$ul.css("display", "none")}); However in IE8, as the <ul> fades off, the <div class="title-layer">Text here</div> remains clear and opaque. Finally the animation ends, the display: none; property is applied onto the <ul> and the text disappears aburptly.

Excanvas does not work in IE8 at all

I simply cannot get excanvas to work at all. I have tried everything I can think of. I am even uploading the examples that come with excanvas to my website and testing them and they do not even work. I don't know if it has something to do with my server or what, but I haven't seen a working excanvas image yet. for instance... DOM memory issue with IE8 (inserting lots of JSON data)

i am developing a small web-utility that displays some data from some database tables. i have the utility running fine on FF, Safari, Chrome..., but the memory management on IE8 is horrendous. the largest JSON request I do will return information to create around 5,000 or so rows in a table within the browser (3 columns in the table). i'm using jquery to get the data (via getJSON). to remove the old/existing table, i'm just doing a $('#my_table_tbody').empty(). to add the new info to the table, within the getJSON callback, i am just appending each table row that i am creating to a variable, and then once i have them all, i am using $('#my_table_tbody').append(myVar) to add it to the existing tbody. i don't add the table rows as they are created because that seems to be a lot slower than just adding them all at once. does anyone have any recommendation on what someone should do who is trying to add thousands of rows of data to the DOM? i would like to stay away from pagination, but i'm wondering if i don't have a choice. Second CSS class not working in IE8.

If I view the target element in the 'Developer Tools', that class is completely missing from the Style panel. Supplementary Developer Laptop

I'm looking to buy a laptop with the following specs for a developer. The goal will be to have a development machine supplementing the devs desktop. During work hours the dev will be on a beefy desktop. For working while on the go: trains, client sites, code camps, it would be nice to have a machine which can run Visual Studio 2008 without needing to remote desktop into their primary machine. What do you think is the lowest cost laptop meeting this need? Here are the specs I have in mind: SSD drive 64GB-doesn't need to be huge, most data is stored on servers. Will need to fit Windows 7, IIS, SQL Server, and Visual Studio 2010. RAM-3GB processor =Pentium Core 2 duo Screen size = 14 inches. OS doesn't matter. It will be paved with Windows 7 Ultimate optical drive omitted would be a plus. weight and battery life aren't so important because the machine will be plugged in almost all the time.

Tools to test multicast routing

I am looking for a good simple tool that runs on a standard OS (Windows or Linux) that I can used to test that multicast is being passed properly by a router. I have been asked by a client to enable multicast routing on a Linux box acting as their router since their phone system requires multicast to for a few features. Since I am not physically near the client I don't really have the ability to experiment with the various methods for setting up multicast routing on Linux. I can setup a router at my desk that is identical to what is deployed on their network, but I don't know of any good simple tools that I can use to generate or listen for multicast traffic. The one mulicast tool I have found is mcast.exe tool which is part of the Windows 2000/2003 resource kit. From what I have read online it seems that mcast.exe does not work across a router, and only works on the local network, so that doesn't seem to be useful for me to test multicast routing. So what do tool(s) do you use to test that multicast routing is properly setup?

My trial of Ultramon just ran out and (sadly) my boss will not spring for a license. I want features like multiple task bars and Maximized window dragging (and/or other cool features I don't know about). I know that there is at least one out there that is free and allows moving windows easily between monitors. (Cause I had it before, but I can't remember its name.) I want to install it again or something similar/better.

terminal tools and logs for debugging TCP issues

I have a server which I am testing for functionality (not load, not stress) with tsung. 50 users / second, 100 total users. Judging from tsung (tsung is the testing framework) graphs, there TCP connections (red line) drops to 0 while the commenced user sessions (green line) does not. Server logs show nothing to be gripping onto, so I am speculating some kind of TCP issue. Should this be the case ? Where would I look further on the server, any logs / tools to be looking at ? Best multi-platform mobile development tool, or use iPhone tools?

I may be building a mobile app for a client soon. Their primary focus is the iPhone, but my boss would like to be able to target multiple platforms if it's feasible. The app will probably be a large but technically simple business application backed by a web service. So, here's the question as I see it: What is currently the strongest cross-platform mobile development tool that supports iOS? Would you choose it over native development tools? If you choose native, contrast it with a cross-platform tool you've used. In addition, For a project of the type we're expecting, what's the level of effort for your chosen tool versus other tools? What's the actual level of support of the tool for other platforms and their unique look and feel, capabilities, etc.? How thorough is the documentation of the product? How well do you like the development experience itself, e.g. the language, tools, documentation? Is it something you would choose to do long-term? TinyMCE include crashes IE8

I am trying to open a popup onclick using a function call as shown below. <a id="forgotPasswordLink" href="#" onclick="openSupportPage(document.getElementById('forgotPasswordLink').innerHTML);"> Some Text </a> I am creating the HTML for the pop up page on the fly and also including the TinyMCE source file over there. The code is as shown below: <script type="text/javascript">  </script> The support.js file contains the following. function inittextarea() { tinyMCE.init({ elements : "content", mode : "exact", theme : "advanced", readonly : true, setup : function(ed) { ed.onInit.add(function() { tinyMCE.activeEditor.execCommand("mceToggleVisualAid"); }); } }); } The problem arises when the onclick event is fired and the pop up opens up, IE8 stops responding and seems to hang. It is working fine on Chrome, Firefox and Safari. I feel that the issue is because of TinyMCE script inclusion because on commenting the lines that include the tiny_mce.js and the support_page.js, the popup renders with no issues. I am also using the latest TinyMCE release. Please let me know why this is happening and what could be the resolution.

Developer's PC - worth getting more than 8GB RAM?

I'm building a developer PC and am wondering whether to get 8GB or 12GB. It's a Core-i7 860 system, i.e., 1156 motherboards with 4 slots for RAM sticks, dual channel, usually up 16GB (as opposed to 1366 sockets where 6 banks / triple-channel are used). 8GB would be cheaper to get especially because price per GB is lower with 4x2GB compared to 2x4GB. Also the availability is worse for 4GB DIMMs here where I live; those are the main practical advantages of 8GB. (Edit: I should have stressed the price difference more - in the eshop I'm buying from, the difference between 12GB and 8GB is so big that I could almost buy a whole new netbook for it.) However, I understand that more RAM can never do harm which is the point of this question - how much of a difference will 12GB make as opposed to 8GB? Honestly, I've always been on 3.2GB systems (4GB but 32bit system) and never felt much pain from having too little memory - of course there could be more but for instance compiler's performance was usually held back by slow I/O or not utilizing multiple cores on my CPU. Still, I'm not questioning that 8GB will be useful, however, I'm not sure about the additional 4GB difference between 8 and 12 gig. Anyone has experience with 8GB / 12GB systems? The software I usually run all the time: Visual Studio or Eclipse (both should be fine with ~2GB RAM, after that I feel their performance is I/O bound) Firefox (it can never have enough RAM can it? :) Office (~500MB RAM should be enough) ... and then some smaller apps like Skype, other browsers, some background services etc.
