  • How to change identifier quote character in SSIS for connection to ODBC DSN

    I'm trying to create an SSIS 2008 Data Source View that reads from an Ingres database via the ODBC driver for Ingres. I've downloaded the Ingres 10 Community Edition to get the ODBC driver, installed it, set up the data access server and a DSN on the server running SSIS. If I connect to the SQL Server 2008 Database Engine on the server running SSIS, I can retrieve data from Ingres over the ODBC DSN by running the following command: SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET( 'MSDASQL' , 'DSN=IngresODBC;UID=testuser;PWD=testpass' , 'SELECT * FROM iitables') So I am quite sure that the ODBC setup is correct. If I try the same query with SQL Server style bracketed identifier quotes, I get an error, as Ingres doesn't support this syntax. SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET( 'MSDASQL' , 'DSN=IngresODBC;UID=testuser;PWD=testpass' , 'SELECT * FROM [iitables]') The error is "[Ingres][Ingres 10.0 ODBC Driver][Ingres 10.0]line 1, Unexpected character '['.". What I am finding is that I get the same error when I try to add tables from Ingres to an SSIS Data Source View. The initial step of selecting the ODBC Provider works fine, and I am shown a list of tables / views to add. I then select any table, and try to add it to the view, and get "ERROR [5000A] [Ingres][Ingres 10.0 ODBC Driver][Ingres 10.0]line 3, Unexpected character '['.". Following Ed Harper's suggestion of creating a named query also seems to be stymied. If I put into my named query the following text: SELECT * FROM "iitables" I still get an error: "ERROR [5000A] [Ingres][Ingres 10.0 ODBC Driver][Ingres 10.0]line 2, Unexpected character '['". According to the error, the query text passed by SSIS to ODBC was: SELECT [iitables].* FROM ( SELECT * FROM "iitables" ) AS [iitables] It seems that SSIS assumes that bracket quote characters are acceptable, when they aren't. How can I persuade it not to use them? Double quotes are acceptable.

    I have images stored in a database and am serving them from an MVC controller as "FileResult". If I run the MVC application from Visual Studio 2008 in debug mode and set a break point inside the controller method the debugger intercepts the call on every page refresh regardless of my "OutputCache" settings. Does the VS debugger invalidate the OutputCache or is there something else going on here?   • Regular Expression for any number divisible by 60 using C# .Net ?

    Hi there, I need to apply validation on input time intervals that are taken in as seconds. Now i am not really good at Regular expressions. So can any body help making a regular expression that can test whether a number is divisible by 60. I was wondering if i could use to test one that check that the number is divisible by 10 and then check whether the same is divisible by 6. For number divisible by 10 here [\d*0] is the expression i guess. Please correct me if i am wrong. Hope somebody solves my problem. Thanks

    I’ve run into what appears to be an NHibernate config problem. Basically, I ran up a simple proof of concept persistence integration test using NUnit, the test simply querys an Oracle database and successfully returns the last record received by the underlying table. However, when the assemblies are taken out of the NUnit test environment and deployed as they would be for an actual application build, my call for an NHibernate session results in a ‘TypeInitializationException’ whilst executing the code line: sessionFactory = New Configuration().Configure().BuildSessionFactory() The application is a vb.net console app running against an Oracle 9.2 database, using a ‘coding framework’ published on the web by Bill McCafferty entitled 'NHibernate Best Practices with ASP.NET' (pre S#harp Architecture).     As docs say it's impossible to add two menu items to NSPopUpButton if they both have the same title. I was trying to add menu items to [popupButton menu], but with no luck. I was also trying to create a new menu, add items to it and then use [popupButton setMenu:newMenu], but no. Menu always display only one item per name. But I know it should be possible, if you try to create a smart playlist in iTunes, you could select "Playlist" from the left popup button, "=" from the middle, and the right one will hold menu items for every playlist in iTunes EVEN if they have the same title. So how do they do it?

  • Rails initializes extremely slow on ruby 1.9.1

    I just got my rails 2.3.8 app running on ruby 1.9.1. To get into the console, start the webserver, anything that initializes rails, takes 3 - 4 times longer in ruby 1.9 than in ruby 1.8.7. I'm using ruby version managers so I can easily switch between ruby 1.9 and ruby 1.8.7. The speed difference happens in both production and development. I want to use 1.9 because its must faster once everything is running, but the startup time is so bad the app is timing out on Heroku on the first request. Any ideas why ruby 1.9 would be 3 - 4 times slower? I can't figure it out for the life of me.

  • How does Facebook chat avoid continuous polling of the server?

    I am trying to understand how Facebook's chat feature receives messages without continuously poling the server. Firebug shows me a single GET XmlHttpRequest continuously sitting there, waiting for a response from the server. After 5 minutes, this never timed out. How are they preventing timeout? An AJAX request can just sit there like that indefinitely, waiting for a response? Can I do this with JSONRequest? I see this at json.org: JSONRequest is designed to support duplex connections. This permits applications in which the server can asynchronously initiate transmissions. This is done by using two simultaneous requests: one to send and the other to receive. By using the timeout parameter, a POST request can be left pending until the server determines that it has timely data to send. Or is there another way to let an AJAX call just sit there, waiting, besides using JSONRequest?

  • Abusing the word "library"

    I see a lot of questions, both here on SO and elsewhere, about "maintaining common libraries in a VCS". That is, projects foo and bar both depend on libbaz, and the questioner is wondering how they should import the source for libbaz into the VCS for each project. My question is: WTF? If libbaz is a library, then foo doesn't need its source code at all. There are some libraries that are reasonably designed to be used in this manner (eg gnulib), but for the most part foo and bar ought to just link against the library. I guess my thinking is: if you cut-and-paste source for a library into your own source tree, then you obviously don't care about future updates to the library. If you care about updates, then just link against the library and trust the library maintainers to maintain a stable API. If you don't trust the API to remain stable, then you can't blindly update your own copy of the source anyway, so what is gained? To summarize the question: why would anyone want to maintain a copy of a library in the source code for a project rather than just linking against that library and requiring it as a dependency? If the only answer is "don't want the dependency", then why not just distribute a copy of the library along with your app, but keep them totally separate?

  • Invalid iPhone Application Binary

    I'm trying to upload an application to the iPhone App Store, but I get this error message from iTunes Connect: The binary you uploaded was invalid. The signature was invalid, or it was not signed with an Apple submission certificate. My guess is that it is not properly signed. I have downloaded my App Store distribution certficate, but I can't figure out how to "sign" my application with it. The SDK's documentation about code signing is not very helpful. (FWIW, I can install the app on my iPhone just fine using the development provisioning profile.) However, it is possible that I screwed things up on a more basic level. Here's what I did to try to prepare it for upload: In Xcode, select the Device|Release target Select the target and click the Info button. Change "Code Signing Identity" to "iPhone Distribution", and change "Code Signing Provisioning Profile" to my App Store distribution profile. Build Go to the directory where the built MyApp.app bundle is, control-click and choose "Compress" to create MyApp.zip Upload MyApp.zip to the App Store via iTunes Connect (which resulted in the above error message). Can anybody give me any hints? Edit: Found someone with the same problem.     I've been trying to work out the 'best practices' way to manage file uploads with Turbogears 2 and have thus far not really found any examples. I've figured out a way to actually upload the file, but I'm not sure how reliable it us.     Assume there exists an XML instance document that looks like this: <root> <object type="foo"> <!-- ... --> </object> <object type="bar"> <!-- ... --> </object> </root> My goal is to have a small (static) schema that verifies proper <element type="xxx" /> syntax for objects, and another schema (more prone to change) that verifies the contents of each object element against a complexType that matches the type attribute: <complexType name="foo"><!--should match object with type="foo"--></complexType> <complexType name="bar"><!--should match object with type="bar"--></complexType> What is the best way to accomplish this (or something similar)?

  • SSD and programming

    I'm trying to put together a business case for getting every developer in our company an Intel SSD drive. The main codebase contains roughly 400,000 lines of code. My theory is that since the code is scattered about in maybe 1500 files, an SSD drive would be substantially faster for compiles. The logic being that many small reads really punishes the seak-time bottle-neck of a traditional hard-drive. Am I right? Is SSD worth the money in productivity gains by reducing the edit/compile cycle time?
