  During the winter Olympics, I had a little bet with Sondre Bjellås.  Sondre is the RD for Olso, Norway, a rising rock star in the .NET world and a very great guy.  The bet was that if Canada would win Gold against Norway in the man curling final, I would wear something funny and Norwegian like a Viking hat at Mix while Sondre would wear a Canadian jersey.   As you may be aware, we have been making a concerted effort to ask successful Java EE/GlassFish adopters to come forward with their stories. A number of such stories were shared at this year's GlassFish Community event at JavaOne. In addition to Adam Bien's testimonial (which we posted earlier), another story that really stands out is the one from Stephan Janssen. • How do I get Paypal or a merchant account for a marketplace style web site?

  I'm having trouble getting approved for a merchant account for my website. Basically I have expert users and users. Expert users provide a service through my website which they set their own rates. Users purchase the services, then pay me, I give 90% to the expert users. I have been told this is factoring.. Is the way around this, a system like freelancer.com does? Where users deposit money into their freelancer account, then pay for the services they won? What are the negatives to this system? What about sites like 99designs? They accept CC payments and then pay the winning designer. How are some sites doing this but I'm having so much trouble getting approved?

• Simple Math Multiplayer game - is Ajax sufficient?

  I'm planning to create a simple math multiplayer game and I plan to just use Ajax for the server/client communication but I'm not sure if this is sufficient or if I need a socket server. The game will look like this: 2-4 users all get a simple math task (like: "37 + 14") they have to solve it as fast as possible first user who solves it is the winner I will track the time for each user, since the game started, on the client side and everytime a user gives an answer, the answer and the passed time will be send to the server. Additionally I'll add a function which will check every 3 seconds if the other users finished, how much time they needed and who won. Do you think this is possible just using Ajax? What alternatives are there?

Because of the support for regions in SSMS 2012 the regions and debug sections feature has been removed from SSMS Tools Pack for SQL Server 2012. • Will making players pay a virtual currency before entering a match discourage them from playing?

  I'm making a multiplayer match-making game, and by my current design, people will need to pay a small fee before joining a match. At the end of the match, the team that won will get the money. That will be a virtual currency, but still, will it discourage people to enter matches? I introduced it to make the matches matter more, because there's always a fear that you will loose your investments. I'm not talking about anything big here, but even a small amount might have a similar psychological effect as a bigger one.

  Why would you hire in-house over outsourcing in developing a product for your company? I can only think of a few but I'm not entirely sure if they're good enough reason. This is actually for a debate that I'm going to have in class. I'm more inclined on the outsourcing part but unfortunately, I was asked to switch to the in-house side of the debate. Any ideas?   I am writing a bet settling win forms app in c#.So, I have 6 selections, 4 of them have won. I know that using the following formula =FACT(selections)/(FACT(selections-doubles))/FACT(doubles) - taken from excel but now coded into my app and working well- I can work out how many possible doubles ie AB, AC,AD,AE, BC,BD,BE, etc need to be resolved. But what I can't figure out is how to do the acutal calculation. Ie, how can I efficiently code it so that every combination A B C D has been calculated? All my efforts thus far on paper have proved to be ugly and verbose, and I was wondering if anyone could come up with an elegant solution? Ty for all and any help.

  If you’re wary of browsing on wide open public Wi-Fi networks (and you should be), Sidestep is a free Mac application that routes your connection on an unsecure network through a secure proxy. Sidestep automatically detects when you are on an unprotected wireless network and forms an encrypted tunnel to the proxy you specified during setup. Anytime you login a wide open Wi-Fi node (such as at a coffee shop, airport, or other public area) you won’t be broadcasting your login credentials and other personal information in what amounts to plain text into the air around you.
