• cygwin ssh connection to server port 22 connection refused on localhost

  I set up a ssh server through ssh-host-config. Then I started the server. net start sshd The CYGWIN sshd service is starting. The CYGWIN sshd service was started successfully. When I try to connect I get: ssh myusername@localhost ssh: connect to host localhost port 22: Connection refused I tried to allow port 22 in Windows Firewall, but that didn't change anything. And because I'm trying to ssh locally I don't think Windows Firewall is the culprit. I'm using Windows 7 and What should I look for to fix this problem?

  When I go to localhost/~admin/ or 127.0.0.1/~admin/ my browser says: "Forbidden You don't have permission to access /~admin/ on this server." How do I change this?!??!?! It's driving me nuts! when I go to localhost or 127.0.0.1/ my browser says: "It Works!". I'm running mac osx 10.8. I created aliases in my .bash_profile file so that I can start, restart and stop Apache quickly: alias startApache="sudo apachectl start" alias stopApache="sudo apachectl stop" alias restartApache="sudo apachectl restart" In my /etc/apache2/httpd.conf file I turned on php5: LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so I also made sure to change the permissions for my admin.conf file with this command in terminal: sudo chmod 644 username.conf This is my /etc/apache2/users/admin.conf: <Directory "/Users/admin/Sites/"> Options Indexes MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory>

• Config xampp never to cache pages from localhost

  Hello everyone: I am not a webmaster, and that was exactly the reason why I installed XAMPP 1.7.2 on Windows XP SP2 instead of manually configuring Apache, MySQL and PHP to cooperate each other. Now I am having to problem to disable caching pages from localhost. Some suggested just force the browser not to cache, using Firefox web developer bar or something similar; but I feel it would be better if I could configure the Apache server in XAMPP to never allow pages from localhost to be cached. I guess this is done somewhere in httpd.conf? LoadModule cache_module modules/mod_cache.so Would this module be helpful in this case? Doc here : mod_cache I am not very sure this would resolve the problem. Could anyone confirm this approach feasible? I'd like to work it out myself, given the fact that I am on the right track... • localhost still responses after uninstalling IIS Windows 7

  I was experimenting with IIS and ASP.NET however I want to go back to WAMP as far as my development server stack on my local windows 7 computer. So I disabled the IIS windows program (using Control Panel - Program and Features - Turn Windows Features on or off) and installed WAMP. I then when to localhost in my browser and just got a blank page. I then uninstalled WAMP and tried again and still got the blank page. I cleared my browser all of saved data like cache and still the same effect. I have uninstalled IIS and WAMP however I can't get localhost to return server not found like it usually does. I know the skype can sometimes effect things running on port 80 so I quit that but still it does not work. Is there a way I can figure out what is running on the port and returning me an empty page?

• MySQL: "UPDATE command denied to user ''@'localhost'"

  For some reason when I installed MySQL on my machine (a Mac running OS X 10.9) the 'root' MySQL account got messed up and I don't have access to it, but I do have access to the standard MySQL account 'sean@localhost' which I use to log into phpMyAdmin. I am trying to reset the 'root' password by starting the mysqld daemon using the command mysqld --skip-grant-tables and then running the following lines in the mysql shell. mysql> UPDATE mysql.user SET Password=PASSWORD('MyNewPass') -> WHERE User='root'; mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES; Problem is when I try to run that MySQL string the daemon spits back a ERROR 1142 (42000): UPDATE command denied to user ''@'localhost' for table 'user' as if I didn't use the -u argument when I started the mysql shell, either though I did. Any help is muchly appreciated as I am lost at this point. :/

  Here is what I am trying to do. I tried to add another folder to apache and I get the following error when trying to acces testing/index.html. The idea is that I would like to have for every customer a folder like /home/neagoe/Work/InterWebs/Projects/[PROJECT NAME]/CustomerProjects/website/dist. Forbidden You don't have permission to access /index.html on this server. • Cannot connect to IIS 7 from localhost

  I cannot connect to the local IIS 7 using "http://localhost" in IE. "http://127.0.0.1" doesn't work either. The strange thing is that if I add a binding on e.g. port 81, then I can reach "http://localhost:81". Also turning off the firewall on the local machine doesn't help. The site is reachable from the internet. The local requests don't seem to hit IIS (no entries in the IIS log files). IIS is hosted on Windows Server 2008 R2 from behind a hardware firewall device. Note that I'm a programmer, not a network administrator, so I'm having a hard time trouble shooting this.

• Trouble getting PHP, Apache, and Zend talking to eachother (localhost)

  Hi guys, I've searched through several other questions, but haven't found my solution. THe main reason is that I'm not even sure if I have all these things properly installed. I have a hosting account, and have always just deployed everything into the internets, but I'm finally trying to figure out how to get my desktop set up right for learning Zend Framework. I have Apache Server 2.2, PHP, And Zend Framework installed. I'm trying to do this tutorial: http://akrabat.com/wp-content/uploads/Getting-Started-with-Zend-Framework.pdf The problem is when I click on the link: http://localhost/zf-tutorial/public I get an Error 404. If I type in http://www.localhost I get "It Works!" in the browser. I'm thinking this means I have Apache installed correctly, but am not pointing correctly to the Zend tutorial? • Can only connect to IIS site through localhost

  I'm building a web service for my company's iPhone application, and everything's been working smoothly by running tests through localhost on the development machine. I'm now in the phase where I need to test connections from other computers within the network, and any connection other than localhost gives me a 404. My internal IP, 127.0.0.1, and computername all get 404 when connecting from any computer, either the one the site's hosted on or any others on the network. Telnet can get through to port 80, and I've temporarily disabled all firewalls on this machine (I do not have control over the external firewall, but I'm only testing connections within the network) Does anyone have a clue why this is happening? I was able to connect to the web service from other computers when hosted on a Mac via Apache, but because I'm now using a SQL Server connection I'm restricted to using IIS for Windows Authentication. Googling only provided answers related to firewalls, and mine is disabled note: I cannot use Anonymous Authentication, but even in testing that it did not affect the issue.

• Forward public port to localhost

  I have a process running on my Ubuntu 12.04 server that insists on binding to a public IP address. I only want it accessible from localhost, and NOT the outside world. I've been trying to work out a way to forward 1.2.3.4:8888 to 127.0.0.1:8888. I saw something about iptables not wanting to forward connections to loopback, and I haven't been able to make it work with xinetd either. It's also important that the connection not only be available on localhost, but be inaccessible on the interface it's trying to run on. Is this even possible?

• Git push on localhost with htaccess

  I am looking into setting up a remote git repo. To start with I have created it on my Windows machine using xampp following this guide. All works fine except when I try to add some security, as per step 6 of the guide (for when I migrate it to my main web server). I have added passwords by using passwd and adding htaccess to the htdocs folder. This works fine (I have checked in my web browser), but when I try and push I get prompted for my password the it fails with a error (code 22). $ git push origin master Password for 'http://git@localhost': error: Cannot access URL http://git@localhost/s.git/, return code 22 fatal: git-http-push failed Any ideas?

  Telnet from my mac OSx doesn't work while it works from the AWS instances and other networks. I have no local firewalls. • Unable to Access Localhost after starting Xampp

  OS: Windows XP Professional, SP 2. Few days back i had xampplite 1.7.1 installed and was able to access localhost and phpmyadmin through browser...... Today it suddenly stopped working. In firefox after i type http://localhost/ nothing happens, just blank white screen. I removed all the files in xampplite folders and re-installed ver 1.7.1 again, it's of no use. Then i installed xampplite 1.7.2 (latest), which i had downloaded from xampp website, again it's of no use. Apache and MySql are running though. I tried using locally installing wordpress, as i have a theme ready and want to convert that design to wordpress, test it and start using it online. • localhost/127.0.0.1 not working, "Unable to connect"

  I am running some pretty basic php sites on Snow Leopard. Usually I just go to my browser and type anything like: localhost http://localhost 127.0.0.1 mycomputername.local But suddenly, after installing a gem file (compass) none of this is working. I tried sudo apachectl restart Thinking that I just needed to restart apache, but no luck. • Cherrypy web application won't communicate outside localhost via VPN

  I'm trying to run a Python2.7/Cherrypy web server on Win 7 which is connected to a VPN to establish a dedicate IP address. (If I run the exact same application on Win XP connected to the VPN it works fine.) On Win 7 I tried configuring it to use port 8080, 8005, or 80 with no improvements. I turned off Windows Firewall altogether to test and there was no improvement. If I run Apache on the Win 7 machine on port 80 it works fine so I'm pretty sure it's not the VPN service or router. If I go to WhatismyIP.com it shows that I have the IP address being provided by the VPN. Here is the Python code, but I suspect the problem is the network configuration: import cherrypy class HelloWorld: def index(self): return "Hello world!3" index.exposed = True cherrypy.root = HelloWorld() cherrypy.config.update({"global":{ "server.environment": "production", "server.socketPort": 8005 } }) cherrypy.server.start() This will return a web page if I go to localhost:8005, but not if I go to the VPN IP address:8005 from another machine. As I said, if I run Apache on the Win 7 machine on port 80 I can see it at localhost:80 AND at the VPN IP address:80 from another machine. Thanks for any light you can shed! Geoffrey
