• Windows 7 Line In Delay Issue [closed]

  Not sure if this question should be posted on a different stack exchange site, so if you find that it should not be posted here, please move it. Either way, if you know the solution, please advise. I'm running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit on my Dell Latitude 2100 netbook and I'm having an issue with the line in device/driver/functionality. The device & driver are stock: Driver Date: 7/13/2009 Driver Version: 6.1.7600.16385 I'm almost sure that the manufacturer of the sound card is RealTek. The problem is that there is a delay (when monitoring input) between the source and the speakers. My setup is bass guitar running through a 12' long instrument cable (1/4") with a 1/4" female to 1/8" male adapter into the line in port on the computer. Then the 15' long headphones/line out cable goes into a standard set of powered speakers. How do I get rid of this delay? Thanks for any help.

  I just bought a nettop. It came with WinXP Home. I first installed Win 7 on it. I wasn't that happy with the performance so I decided to go back to XP. I am using an external dvd drive and a Win XP Pro disc. I boot from the dvd drive and during the install get this error: Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3. • How to recover from locked down XP Home computer

  We've got a Kiosk machine provided to us by a manufacturer. The video card is flaky, so I want to replace it with another card we have on hand, rather than shipping across the country. The problem is that they have policies in place that locks the system down to a point where only the manufacturers demo works on the computer so I can't install drivers for the newer card. I know pretty much nothing about windows policies or the policy editor. Am I fighting a losing battle trying to replace thi scard?

• I cannot boot Ubuntu from WUBI install with windows 7, get an error message every time

  i have tried several times to install ubuntu using wubi, i can't use a disc as i have a notebook computer and there is no optical drive. the download and installation all seem to work well but whenever i try to boot ubuntu at the windows 7/ubuntu menu it comes up with this error screen. I have used both the C: drive and the D: drive to install Ubuntu several times each, it's always unsuccessful. "Windows has failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer Choose your language settings and then click 'next' Click repair your computer. If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. • Blinking motherboard power LED

  I was just rebuilding an old desktop PC to be used as a HTPC and the LED on the motherboard that indicates when there is power is blinking fairly rapidly. The only way I can get the machine to boot is to press the power button immediately after plugging it in, and even then I cannot make it into the BIOS. The power supply has more than enough juice to power all of the components, and is from a reputable manufacturer. The motherboard is an Asus and is about 4.5 years old. Is my power supply hosed? Or is it my motherboard?

• Does OEM license of x86 Windows 7 extend to the x64 version?

  I bought a laptop that came preinstalled with 2GB of RAM and Windows 7 Professional x86. I upgraded to 8GB RAM, and naturally want to install the x64 version of Windows. The laptop came without media, with the option to create a bootable restore disc, which is, of course Win7 x86. Question 1: does my Win7 license cover both x86 and x64 versions? Question 2: is there a legitimate way to acquire x64 install media (e.g. from Microsoft) for a nominal fee? (believe it or not, the laptop manufacturer support had the gall to suggest that I should have bought a differently configured machine in the first place) Thank you!

• Different versions of 2.5" drives? Unscreawing Intel 320 for slimmer drive to fit newer thinkpads?

  My x60s laptops come with about 1-2mm heigher 2.5" HDD than newer x220 models. This is totally stupid when one would like to reuse the old drive in the newer laptops. I bought newer 2.5" 320 Intel SSDs and they seem to have such 1-2mm gap to unscrew but I am unsure whether it is meant for opening. Could someone instruct what to do here? Look the manufacturer has started changing the old good 2.5" drives into slightly different versions, now it means slow compability issues to fix or totally new 2.5" drives. Ideas how to proceed? Unscrewing newer 320 drives or are some other versions of 2.5" drives meant for x220? Does there exist some sort of racks to get drives working between different comps? Perhaps booting from laplink is currently the easiest solution to get things working when changing harddrives between comps? • Sending an email when an application crashes?

  I've got a big piece of scientific equipment which is hooked up to, and controlled by software running on a Windows PC. Unfortunately the software, provided by the manufacturer, crashes occasionally when nobody is there to watch it. We'd really like a piece of software which could watch the application, and when it crashes, send out an email right away. Is there anything out there like that? EDIT: we want to monitor the application, which is a normal piece of Windows software, running on the PC. The mention of the equipment was just sort of background to explain why we cared.

• Is possible to load Windows 7 from the eSATA drive, even if it's not supported in BIOS?

  I'm using a laptop which has eSATA connection. I would like to install Windows 7 on the external disk (to have it completely separated from the OS on the internal hdd). According to the manufacturer, booting from eSATA drive won't be possible. I've checked the BIOS settings and it appears to be correct - eSATA is not even listed in the boot sequence. I'm wondering if there can be any workaround to that limitation, for example starting a custom bootloader on the USB pendrive, just to boot Windows 7 on the eSATA drive.

• Computer hanged in the middle of bios flashing process

  I have a laptop: Toshiba Satellite c660-17j, today I decided to update BIOS. I've downloaded bios updater from manufacturer's web site, and in the middle of flashing process computer hanged. I was waiting more than 30 minutes, but nothing was changed on the screen, i've tryed to PRESS MORE BUTTONS, but there were no reactions, so i've turned it off by removing battery (all other methods failed, even pressing power button for ~10 secs). After that computer can't start. I understand, that there's MESS in BIOS chip, and it's possible to re-flash it with hardware programmer, but I don't have it. I remember, that on some PCs (even on my eeepc) there was possibility to re-flash bios by inserting usb flash-disk (with .dat file on it, which contained BIOS), and power on PC, while holding some keys combination, then PC was switching to BIOS programming mode and re-flashed BIOS, after that it was possible to boot up normaly. Is there a way to recover computer without hardware programming BIOS chip? p.s. sorry for my english.

• Will we be penalized for having multiple external links to the same site?

  There seem to be conflicting answers on this question. The most relevant ones seem to be at least a year or two old, so I thought it would be worth re-asking this question. My gut says it's ok, because there are plenty of sites out there that do this already. Every major retailer site usually has links to the manufacturer of whatever item they are selling. go to www.newegg.com and they have hundreds of links to the same site since they sell multiple items from the same brand. Our site allows people to list a specific genre of items for sale (not porn - i'm just keeping it generic since I'm not trying to advertise) and on each item listing page, we have a link back to their website if they want. Our SEO guy is saying this is really bad and google is going to treat us as a link farm. My gut says when we have to start limiting user useful features to our site to boost our ranking, then something is wrong. Or start jumping through hoops by trying to hide text using javascript etc Some clients are only selling 1 to a handful of items, while a couple of our bigger clients have hundreds of items listed so will have hundreds of pages that link back to their site. I should also mention, there will be a handful of pages with the bigger clients where it may appear they have duplicate pages, because they will be selling 2 or 3 of the same item, and the only difference in the content of the page might just be a stock #. The majority of the pages though will have unique content. So - will we be penalized in some way for having anywhere from a handful to a few hundred pages that all point to the same link? If we are penalized, what's the suggested way to handle this? We still want to give users the option to go to the clients site, and we would still like to give a link back to the clients site to help their own SE rankings.

  My motherboard is Intel D865GVHZ I m using 512 mb ram and recently i purchased a 512 mb ram of same company same speed(333) and same manufacturer. but my pc is not booting in dual dynamic paging mode . It is not at all booting and the screen freezes on windows logo screen at start up. i checked installing individual rams one by one and the pc is working with either of the ram installed individually. But wen i install both the pc is not working. One more point i found is my one ram has 8 chips on both sides while the other ram has 4 chips on both sides.   I'm trying to understand what an MBR is. I know it is used to boot the device, like a compact flash card. If you had five 1GB CF card from SanDisk for a camera, would there be any reason for the manufacturer to have different MBRs? It seems like to me, if for some reason one CF card wouldn't boot, you could copy the MBR from a working CF card and write it to the non-working CF card. Would this MBR for a SanDisk card work on the same size Western Digital card for the same use? Thanks!

  I bought a Dell Inspiron 5521 laptop a few days ago that came with Ubuntu preinstalled. I haven't used Ubuntu yet, and I don't have any experience in using it. I wanted to install Windows 7 64-bit on my laptop alongside Ubuntu, and made two bootable USB drives with Gparted and Windows 7. There wasn't a suitable partition on my laptop in which I could install Windows 7. I've read the instructions for using Gparted to create or manage my hard drive. I inserted the USB, booted from BIOS, and followed the procedure in installing Gparted. Then I entered Gparted, and the following error occurred: Librated error when Creating partition table. It asked me to click on either OK or Cancel. Either way I had my hard disk shown to me in the user window, in partitions that were made by the manufacturer: Partition File sys Label Size Flags /dev/sda1 fat32 dellutility 300.00 Mib diag /dev/sda2 fat32 os 3.00 Gib lba /dev/sda3 ext4 912.46 Gib boot /dev/sda4 extended 15.75 Gib (had a subpart) /dev/sda5 linux-swap 15.75 Gib ...and a option to switch to dev/sdb that's unused and of capacity 3Gib. I've used the biggest partition 912.46 Gib, and tried to reduce its size, and clicked OK. Then when I tried to make a new partition, it said it can't make any more partitions, no more than a maximum of 5. I would like to keep Ubuntu and slowly learn, but I also need to use programs that work in Windows. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

• Win8 x64 Laptop (Samsung) unable to boot after installing Ubuntu

  I posted here a while back and no one was able to help me so I am going to try to explain my problem better. I have a Samsung series 7 Ultrabook and I connected a USB optical drive with an Ubuntu 14.04 installation disc. I did not set or change any of my partitions, however, as I mainly wanted to just be able to boot from the disc and fool around with Ubuntu. Upon restarting my computer I get a blue-screen message saying: Recovery Your PC needs to be repiared The Boot configuration date file is missing some required information. File: \BCD Error Code: 0xc000000d You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installing media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer. However I am never given the option to even try to boot to anything. When I turn my computer on the optical drive spins and then after a moment or two comes to a halt. I turned off safeboot and switched it to CSM (I believe that is what it is called) mode, and that makes it so when I turn my computer on it takes me to a Windows Recovery screen. I am able to change the date I want to recover and view all the applications installed, however upon recovering Windows says "All boot options are tried. Press key to recover with factory image using Recovery or any other keys for next boot loop iteration." It seems to be stuck in a loop. Can someone please help me?! I'm so confused and nothing is working!

• RCA monitor won't display highest resolution when NVidia drivers are installed

  My computer is a dual-monitor setup. It won't display my second monitor's highest res... In fact, it will only display one resolution. Anything higher or lower makes the monitor not show the screen. I've had this problem with this computer, and I upgraded almost all my components (cpu, RAM, mobo, and video card included) and I still have this problem with my new setup. This leads me to believe it's a problem with my monitor and the NVidia driver together. Any thoughts on what can be done? The manufacturer of the monitor doesn't make a driver for this monitor. I used to run Windows Vista and now my new setup runs Windows 7.

• Blank screen on laptop after replacement

  I have an Acer Aspire 5332 laptop, running Windows 7 home premium 32bit. My screen broke, but the particular screen (LED) are no longer made so I bought a CCFL one with a new converter which has proven to be compatible according to the supplier. When I first booted the screen went blank just after the Windows logo was displayed. I suspected a driver issue, so booted in safe mode without any problems, disabled the display adapter (Intel 4 series express family) and it booted up fine. So I guess the screen is not compatible with the display adapter. The driver version is 8.15.10.1892. I tried updating from the Intel site, but it saying it cannot (something to do with manufacturer specific). The supplier is not willing to take it back, so I'm down £60 (UK). I can use it with the adapter disabled, but the quality is bad and I cannnot play video, etc. Any help appreciated.

• Linux (lsusb) not showing String Descriptors of a USB device

  I have an embedded device that when plugged to a linux host, shows up with vid and pid that are not in the usb.ids file (proprietary IDs). However I provide String Descriptors that do show up when plugged into a Windows Host. But not on a Linux Host. lsusb -v shows only iManufacturer 3 iProduct 2 iSerial 1 But on the device side, when processing the setup requests, I see that the Strings are actually requested by the Host. By Windows and also the Linux Host. The USB Device Tree Viewwer under Windows shows this output: iManufacturer : 0x01 Language 0x0409 : "My Manufacturer" iProduct : 0x02 Language 0x0409 : "MyProduct" iSerialNumber : 0x03 Language 0x0409 : "My Serial" I feel that lsusb does not show all of the information. Is there a more informative tool?

• USB 3.0 Device not detected in Windows 8

  About my setup: Windows 8 64-bit. X79-UD3 Motherboard. Latest Windows 8 USB 3.0 Drivers from motherboard manufacturer website. All right so device manager detects my USB 3.0 ports, so all is well there. However when I plug in my external USB 3.0 hard drive, windows doesn't even make a beep; the hard drive is not picked up by device manager at all. The SAME thing happens with Ubuntu 12.10 BUT adding PCI=nomsi (as a workaround) to the Grub command line of the Ubuntu boot option makes Ubuntu 12.10 detect my external hard drive. I also have a few other doubts, if you guys would be kind enough to answer them that include: Should XHCI hand-off in the UEFI bios be enabled or disabled for Windows 8? The difference between XHCI hand-off and EHCI hand-off and what are it's effects on USB 3.0 functionality? And last but not least how can I get Windows 8 to recognize my external hard drive when Ubuntu 12.10 (after the Grub workaround) works fine?

  I am running ghost 2003 command -fdsp, but once we have cloned the image and restored it onto exactly the same make and model machine, we are force to run win7 setup and run a repair which fixes the boot menu, I want to prevent this requirement to fix the problem, any suggestions besides the obvious of using Windows AIK tools, new versions of ghost/clonzilla. I want to prevent the problem in the first place, it's 1 partition only, on a levano workstation m82 with UEFI and a 100mb system reserved partition.   My Toshiba netbook fell down and hasn't booted again. When I start Windows 7 it immediately says: Windows failed to start... Status: 0xc0000225 Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. After that, there are a few things to consider: There's a Linux distro Linkat which is also installed in the computer. It starts normally without any problem and it doesn't seem to display any errors when it boots. I restored all computer OSs with clonezilla and some images provided by the manufacturer, and it's done nothing. I have already checked the basic components of the PC (RAM, Hard Disk, WLAN Card) are pluged in and working. My impression is that's all about some broken part inside, though the Linux OS starts normally. Does anyone know a way I can fix this or at least any software for identifying the problem at all?
