• After upgrade to Lucid, computer doesn't respond to clicks or pressed keys until X restart

  I upgraded to Lucid today, and after the update the display is "frozen". I can move the cursor, but I cannot click on anything, nor does it respond to any keys. The only way to fix it is to SSH into the machine (which, by the way, works just fine), and kill and start X. Then I'm taken back to the login screen and everything works. This happens every time I boot. Let me know if there are more details that I can provide.

• Network Interface Lost Functionality after Firewall Installation Hung

  I tried to install Agnitum Outpost firewall, but the setup hung while installing network drivers.   Hello, I'm on shared hosting and today i discovered there are some backdoor script.. in .htaccess and a php file. So i went to check via FTP, cannot edit nor delete. So i checked with direct admin.. the file permission(GUID, UID) is set by APACHE while rest of file is set by my username, So my question now is.. the trojan did this is originated from my computer or host side?

• PC cannot ping another PC on my home network

  Hello, I am running Windows 7 on my PC, and I am running a Windows 2008 Server VM in Windows Virtual PC. Both machines have network connectivity. However, I cannot ping the VM from the host neither by computer name nor IP. I can ping the host machine from the VM both by computer name and IP. Is there something I need to enable on the VM to allow it to be seen by other machines on my network? Thanks!

• Windows XP: How to delete files that cannot be deleted?

  I have a backup copy of my previous Documents and Settings folder which only contains my original user and within that, 2 directories (Favorites and Local Settings) which are visible in cmd shell but when I try to delete them, Windows gives me this error: If I try to delete the Documents and Settings folder, I receive this warning: I tried doing this in a cmd shell: attrib *.* -r -a -s -h /s But it did not help, nor did it return any errors/warnings. Unlocker 1.8.5 returns: No Locking handle found. Any ideas?

• Different Results of Scanning Wireless Networks

  Hi, I found that under Ubuntu, WICD and command "/sbin/iwlist wlan0 scan" give a little different list of wireless networks. Windows 7 also gives a slightly different list. For example, there is one shown in WICD but not in the command nor in Windows 7. I wonder why? How to get a complete list of wireless networks? Thanks and regards!

• Get Remote Processes on Windows 2003 with cpu percentage

  I have a production server with it's cpu's running excessively high. Except in critical circumstances nobody is allowed to logon to servers during non maintenance times. I am looking for an application I can use to look at the processes on the remote server which include CPU % usage. An application like top. Windows native tasklist.exe doesn't show percentage, nor does sysinternals pslist.exe. Suggestions?

• Google Chrome pops up "Your preferences can not be read" upon startup

  Had a power outage. After restarting the computer, now whenever I start Google Chrome, a window pops up "Your preferences can not be read. Some features may be unavailable and changes to preferences won't be saved." Nothing whatsoever in Chrome Help nor in the Chrome Forums as to how to fix the problem. How can this be resolved? Additional edit: Uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome does NOT fix the problem.

Here's what I've been able to do so far: I've created a custom plugin that adds one piece of node data called "my_custom_data" it works when I load it manually in IRB I've used the Ohai cookbook to get it loaded on the servers that need it However, Ohai doesn't load it, neither during Chef runs nor if I run Ohai manually.   I'd like to verify that nothing within /foo/bar is chmod 777. Or, alternatively, I'd like to make sure that nothing within /foo/bar us owned by user1 or in group1. Is there any way I can recursively verify the permissions within a given subdirectory to make sure there aren't any security holes? Notice that I do not want to change all the permissions to something specific, nor do I want to change the owner to something specific, so a recursive chmod or chown won't do it... Thanks!

• Cisco sg100-08 connections

  I have multiple computers, some have a 10/100 ethernet adapter while others have a 10/100/1000 ones. If I connect them together with the Cisco sg100-08 switch, do I keep the 1Gbit speed where possible (between two devices at 1Gbit speed) or the whole lan slows down to 100mbit? I checked Cisco website but I couldn't find this kind of information, nor I was able to register to the Cisco support to ask this question (the registration form does not work)

I have tried xvidtune on linux which gives me mode errors and switchresx on macosx which only seems to change resolution but not reposition nor resize (it stretches to full screen anyways). I'm wondering if there's anyway to do this? Practically, I have access to any OS.

• Is there a Linux distro specific for running as a host OS for Virtualization?

  Hi, as I understand running VMware or other virtualizations requires a "host os". Normally this is one of your main os-es, that you really use. What I would like is a mini-linux and virtualization software pre-wrapped into a specialized bootalble, installable mini-os. So the linux would not have a webserver, nor X, just the minimum to run as a host OS and of course optimized for that, like some partitioning tools and such.

• URL Based Internal Redirecting

  Basically, we have one external IP address, several servers internally and want to redirect to each internal server based on request URL. We do not want to install another piece of hardware to do this for us but we have a firewall running Linux that currently forwards to only one of the internal servers. • Profile pictures are neither displayed or stored in my Status.Net installation

  I am running Status.Net 1.0.1 on my webhosting service. When I subscribe to a remote OStatus account, the avatar is neither displayed nor stored in my avatar/ directory. The INSTALLATION file suggests setting the avatar/, background/ and files/ directories to webserver writeable, but this does not help. Has anybody gotten this to work or could anyone point me in the right direction for a solution?

• Saving not cached offline images in Firefox

  I want to save the images from a page in Firefox that have been open for a couple of days. The problem is that neither the page nor the images are available anymore online. The images where dynamically generated and not cached. The only way I can think of is by making a screenshot and then cutting out each invidual image. Isn't there a better way of getting the data from the browsers memory?
