  • Nvidia SLI Disabled on Windows 8. I installed thte Nvidia Windows 8 drivers

    - by GregGoodwin
Details I recently upgraded to Windows 8 Enterprise trial. After installing, I downloaded the Nvidia Windows 8 x64 install package, and it installed fine. After rebooting I got a message stating that SLI was disabled. And in the configuration menu the option to enable SLI is grayed out. I have confirmed the SLI is connected properly. Any thoughts? • Can't install the wireless driver in HP Pavilion dv2419us

    - by maqtanim
I've just installed Ubuntu 13.04 in an old HP Pavilion dv2419us. The problem is, Ubuntu doesn't detect the wireless card. But it works fine in Windows 7. The following command returns nothing! lspci -vvnn | grep 14e4 And the lspci output is: 00:00.1 RAM memory: NVIDIA Corporation C51 Memory Controller 0 (rev a2) 00:00.2 RAM memory: NVIDIA Corporation C51 Memory Controller 1 (rev a2) 00:00.3 RAM memory: NVIDIA Corporation C51 Memory Controller 5 (rev a2) 00:00.4 RAM memory: NVIDIA Corporation C51 Memory Controller 4 (rev a2) 00:00.5 RAM memory: NVIDIA Corporation C51 Host Bridge (rev a2) 00:00.6 RAM memory: NVIDIA Corporation C51 Memory Controller 3 (rev a2) 00:00.7 RAM memory: NVIDIA Corporation C51 Memory Controller 2 (rev a2) 00:02.0 PCI bridge: NVIDIA Corporation C51 PCI Express Bridge (rev a1) 00:03.0 PCI bridge: NVIDIA Corporation C51 PCI Express Bridge (rev a1) 00:05.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C51 [GeForce Go 6150] (rev a2) 00:09.0 RAM memory: NVIDIA Corporation MCP51 Host Bridge (rev a2) 00:0a.0 ISA bridge: NVIDIA Corporation MCP51 LPC Bridge (rev a3) 00:0a.1 SMBus: NVIDIA Corporation MCP51 SMBus (rev a3) 00:0a.3 Co-processor: NVIDIA Corporation MCP51 PMU (rev a3) 00:0b.0 USB controller: NVIDIA Corporation MCP51 USB Controller (rev a3) 00:0b.1 USB controller: NVIDIA Corporation MCP51 USB Controller (rev a3) 00:0d.0 IDE interface: NVIDIA Corporation MCP51 IDE (rev f1) 00:0e.0 IDE interface: NVIDIA Corporation MCP51 Serial ATA Controller (rev f1) 00:10.0 PCI bridge: NVIDIA Corporation MCP51 PCI Bridge (rev a2) 00:10.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio (rev a2) 00:14.0 Bridge: NVIDIA Corporation MCP51 Ethernet Controller (rev a3) 00:18.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] HyperTransport Technology Configuration 00:18.1 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Address Map 00:18.2 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] DRAM Controller 00:18.3 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Miscellaneous Control 05:09.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Ricoh Co Ltd R5C832 IEEE 1394 Controller 05:09.1 SD Host controller: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Host Adapter (rev 19) 05:09.2 System peripheral: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C592 Memory Stick Bus Host Adapter (rev 0a) 05:09.3 System peripheral: Ricoh Co Ltd xD-Picture Card Controller (rev 05) The command lspci -nn | grep 0280 gives no output. • Coolbits not working

    - by usk
I want to use coolbits to increase fan speed of my Fermi GPU. 280.13 driver installed. Ubuntu 11.10 I edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf as follows, by pressing Alt+F2 and gksu gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf I get Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "GeForce GTX 470" Option "NoLogo" "True" Option "Coolbits" "4" EndSection Started getting these messages, Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "pixmap" So I did this, sudo aptitude install gtk2-engines-pixbuf terminal, a@z:~$ nvidia-settings -a [gpu:0]/GPUFanControlState=1 a@z:~$ nvidia-settings -q fans 1 Fan on z:0 [0] z:0[fan:0] (Fan 0) a@z:~$ nvidia-settings -a [fan:0]/GPUCurrentFanSpeed=80 ERROR: Error assigning value 80 to attribute 'GPUCurrentFanSpeed' (z:0[fan:0]) as specified in assignment '[fan:0]/GPUCurrentFanSpeed=80' (Unknown Error). • Backup systems config files

    - by David ???
I'm planning on installing nVidia proprietary drivers on my Ubuntu 10.10. Historically this always ends-up with me being left with no graphical interface. No ability to revert - and reinstalling the whole system. So now, before trying this anew, I wish to backup all relevant config files. I'll try 1 or 2 methods. I'll list each one's commands. I'll appreciate if anyone can tell me how to backup the relevant file, or what's the reverse of this operation. 10x, David Method I - as described here: apt-get --purge remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau As described in this answer: edit /etc/default/grub and add the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nouveau.modeset=0" sudo update-grub Reboot Install original drivers downloaded from nVidia site. Method II - as described here: sudo apt-get purge nvidia* [possibly 'sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf' adding 'vga16fb' 'nouveau' sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-185 sudo modprobe nvidia sudo lsmod | grep -i nvidia sudo nvidia-xconfig

  • Desktop does not show when I installed nvidia drivers!

    - by Levan
The desktop does not show after I installed nvidia experimental drivers. I tried nvidia simple proprietary drivers, and they did not work either. Here is how it looks. This is not cropped or any thing. This is how it looks, after the installation of the drivers the desktop resolution decreased from 1440X900 to 1024X768 The desktop only shows desh and panels when I use the open source drivers. Is there any way to fix this so I can get better performance? Thank you in advance. Thanks to rft183 who provided the solution here is another link to the post that states that he found a solution http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=12303179#post12303179

  • How to get disable nVidia Graphics Card (which has recently expired) so that I can boot Desktop ?

    - by shan23
I have a 3-4 years old laptop (Compaq V3000), which had Win Vista with Ubuntu 10.10 in dual boot configuration. The graphics card inside is an old Nvidia GeForce Go 7200. One fine day, my graphics card died (of old age, presumably) - resulting in myself being initially unable to boot to WinVista and Ubuntu 10.10. I solved the problem with WinVista (disabled Nvidia card after booting to Safe mode), but I don't know how to do the same with Ubuntu. I can only disable the 3rd-party driver after I boot to desktop, but since its crashing before that, I'm unable to do so. Can anyone help me disable the graphics card in Ubunutu ?

  • Why doesn't Ubuntu nvidia-current support the later proprietary drivers for LTS releases?

    - by keepitsimpleengineer
e.g. in my Lucid 10.04 LTS system I had to uninstall the ubuntu proprietary drivers and manually install drivers from nvidia.com for an upgraded video adapter to get the system to work. This does not seem to be in agreement with MS's policy or with the Ubuntu wiki "nvidia-graphics-drivers" versions published in Ubuntu… Precise (295.20-0ubuntu1): restricted/misc Lucid-updates (195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04.1): restricted/misc Oneiric (280.13-0ubuntu6): restricted/misc Natty (270.41.06-0ubuntu1): restricted/misc Maverick (260.19.06-0ubuntu1): restricted/misc Lucid (195.36.15-0ubuntu2): restricted/misc This list seems to be out of date, my maverick system has 295.20-0ubuntu1~maverick~xup1 installed.

  • Can I automatically make my Nvidia card's fan quieter?

    - by Salim Fadhley
I have a machine with an Nvidia graphics card. Unfortunately the GPU fan is very loud. It's very annoying at times. We never use this machine for intense 3d work - that GPU is probably not working very hard at all. I'm pretty sure I can run it at a much lower fan-speed without causing any problems. The nvclock utility can be used to manually adjust the fan-speed of my Nvidia graphics card. I'd like to call this utility automatically when the machine boots up. Is there some kind of system service which I can use to automatically apply this kind of system-wide configuration? Even better, is there a system monitoring service which can poll the GPU temperature and adjust the various system fan-speeds accordingly? Thanks!

  • nvidia-package in 12.10 somehow not same like in 12.04 resp. X-lib not complete?

    - by dschinn1001
Not knowing if this has to do with new kernel-update automatic done by ubuntu 12.10 ? it seems that kernel 3.2 in 12.04 has not these problems with nvidia-drivers ? I tried to install the actual google-earth as deb-package with dpkg -i it seems to be no problem, but when I type command: google-earth in terminal, there comes up the report among else: Xlib: extension "NV-GLX" missing on display ":0". Xlib is installed completely and nvidia-driver is de-installed (then reboot) then re-installed again. the report of google-earth stays the same: Xlib: extension "NV-GLX" missing on display ":0". ubuntu 12.04 was working quite good with google-earth. however: bumblebee seems to be taken out of program ? ( or needs to be re-edited ? ) Don't hurry too quick with solution, I can wait !

  • How do I get drivers working for an Nvidia GT560i on 12.04?

    - by keepitsimpleengineer
I been using a test Xubuntu 12.04 LTS on my 64 bit workstation, because Ubuntu has dropped support for the nvidia graphic adapters my 10.04 LTS and I haven't been able to get them working. Now update manager has upgraded the kernel from 3.2.0-30-generic to 3.2.0-31-generic, and failed to produce a working nvidia module that the X server can load. Fortunately, when launching the 3.2.0-30-generic kernel, I still have use of the X server. Does anybody know a work-around or fix for this? I'm really worried, this is the last working Ubuntu distribution OS on the computer and I don't want to give up on Ubuntu. Details of problem here.

  • How do I install the NVIDIA driver for a GeForce 6200?

    - by 2d4skt
I have been recently trying to find a solution for this on the web but did not find something useful or accurate for Ubuntu 11.10. I also consulted the NVIDIA help, but things there did not work for me. I installed the additional drivers from system settings but they are not fully compatible with my GeForce 6200. First I tried finding how to stop the X server. I succeeded, but another problem was the nouveau kernel. This is really frustrating. Can anybody tell me an accurate and authentic way to install NVIDIA drivers?

  • Updating NVIDIA drivers from 295.40: What will happen to TwinView?

    - by Spice
Right now, I have the NVIDIA proprietary drivers enabled without the Ubuntu-X repo, so the driver version is 295.40 (which is on the official Ubuntu repo) instead of the current 304.64 for my card, but I want to update to the current (using the Ubuntu-X repo). From what I heard, after 302.xx, NVIDIA started supporting RandR and removed TwinView. My question is, I have TwinView enabled for two monitors. If I update to the new version, what will happen to my TwinView settings? Will there be any extra work to do to migrate to the new driver?

  • Does Ubuntu run on current Asus Transformer Prime?

    - by Ubuntu User
I've read instructions about dual boot Android / Transformer Prime (a significant factor in ordering one). Also about not working with /latest/ Transformer Prime (firmware / BIOS?) Also about imminent Ubuntu ARM support. Will I be able to run Ubuntu in a day or two when Transformer arrives? Also, am I right to assume I can restore Transformer to factory status if I break something in the attempt?

  • Extending my desktop across two monitors with Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT

    - by Vega Sera
When I played my old computer before I got this one, I was able to use the horizontal span. (Nvidia Geforce 6200 I believe) However, with this new computer, using vista and the 8800, the horizontal span option is gone, and all I have is dual veiw, which doesn't suit my needs. I play World of Warcraft on both my monitors, using CT_Viewport to keep my character and my veiwport on a single screen, while the majority of my addons lie on my other monitor. The problem with dual view is that the WoW will only stay on my primary monitor. Horizontal span would fix this easily, but there is no option for it. Any help regarding this?

  • Can my laptop run dual 1080p (Sony Vaio - Nvidia 330M)

    - by Charlino
I am looking to buy a monitor to setup dual monitors for my laptop and was wondering if my laptop could handle 2 x 1080p. I have a Sony Vaio VPCF116FG which has a Nvidia GeForce 330M chip and 1GB dedicated graphics memory. The laptop also has a Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Processor (1.60 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.80 GHz) but I don't know if that's relevant(?). The laptop screen has a native resolution of 1080p (1920 x 1080) so I'll be looking at buying a external monitor with 1080p to connect up using a HDMI cable. So, the question is, will my laptop be able to handle it's own 1080p screen AND an external 1080p screen? TIA, Charles

  • Full Screen Flash is choppy (nVidia GeForce 8200M)

    - by Joel Martinez
I have a new compaq presario laptop (I asked SU for advice before I bought it :-) ). It has a nVidia GeForce 8200M video card. When I try to play a flash video full screen, it plays really choppy. This is a brand new computer and is well more powerful than my previous computer so I know it's not a matter of the full screen being too processor intensive to play, or a bandwidth problem. Even playing HD hulu videos full screen was fine on my previous laptop. Any advice on how to get better performance here? edit: World Of Warcraft is able to play at a great framerate, so this machine should definitely be able to handle a simple little flash video ;-)

  • Can't set 1280x1024 on Ubuntu with Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS

    - by torbengb
Ubuntu doesn't offer 1280x1024 but that's what my monitor has -- I want to set that resolution but need help doing so. Ubuntu offers 1360x768, 1152x864, 1024x768 when using the Nvidia driver version 180. This is Ubuntu 9.04 installed as "Wubi" through Windows, I believe it's the amd64 version. Google gave me this precise explanation which is complete latin to me; I'm a Windows guy and not familiar with Terminal. These SU questions also don't provide answers, hence this new question. I hope you can help, and I will provide additional info if required.

  • Glitch with updated nvidia drivers for Dual Monitor

    - by Shinhan
Same problem already happened once so I rolled back to the latest non-problematic version, but it's been months now and I thought to try gain. Still the same problem, so now I thought to ask for help rather than rollback to this, now very old, version. Currently I use 266.58 version drivers for Windows 7 x64 and GeForce GTX 275. (Downloaded from the nvidia website) I have two monitors, Samsung SyncMaster 223BW (LCD) is primary and LG F900B (CRT, old but still works) is secondary. The problem: when I turn off the monitors (both or just secondary) all of the windows that were on the secondary monitor get moved to the primary. This also occurs when I use Sleep. Again, in the old drivers this didnt happen, but now it does and is very annoying, requiring me to manually move the windows back to the secondary monitor (which I use for most of the windows). I had no luck searching for this on google, but maybe somebody here will have a useful suggestion.

  • How to add nvidia drivers after previous failure with linux mint?

    - by LessThanMe
Before today, I had perfectly good drivers from nvidia for my linux mint (15) box. I decided to update it because my performance in TF2 is less than stellar, and then things went south. I used synaptic to install nvidia-331 and then rebooted, but when I selected Mint in GRUB I waited...and waited...and waited. Nothing happened, but the display stayed on (a completely black video was being output). So I went into recovery mode from GRUB, went to root access, and apt-get remove --purge nvidia*'d my way out of that mess, and installed nvidia-common. Now my performance in graphic intensive stuff (read: games, blender) sucks, so I've been through the same thing a few times trying to re-install nvidia-current. I just want to get it back how it was. Thanks for any help! Nvidia GTX 560

  • 3 or 4 monitors with Nvidia and Ubuntu

    - by Jason
I saw that you are (were?) running 4 monitors with Ubuntu 8.10 and two Nvidia cards (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27113/how-to-use-3-monitors). I was curious if you were doing this with Xinerama, a hacked up TwinView config, or multiple X screens, or some other method? Does it work with compiz? I intend to run my Dell 30" in the middle with two 1280x1024 on the sides and continue to use one X screen, and run compiz, on Ubuntu 9.04. Currently, I am using 2 monitors with twinview and compiz, which runs fantastic. I just can't get the third monitor running (unless I enable it in its own X screen, and then enable Xinerama to enable windows to be dragged as if all one X screen, but this breaks compiz, and I don't care much for having separate X screen). I am very interested in knowing how you set up 4 monitors with 2 GPU's. Thanks!

  • Disk boot failure in Windows 7 64-bit after installing the latest NVIDIA drivers

    - by Domchi
I successfully installed the newest NVIDIA drivers (275.33) in Windows 7 64-bit and rebooted afterwards just in case. After the reboot, I got an error about missing MBR. I disconnected the slave disk so that Windows doesn't get confused and got this message: DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER It seems that Windows doesn't recognize the main disk anymore. I booted from Windows install disk but the main disk doesn't get listed as possible Windows locations to repair, and I can't get to it from the recovery prompt. The BIOS does recognize it, and I'm able to see it if I run diskpart - however "detail disk" in diskpart says that there are no volumes on the disk. I also tried bootrec /FixMbr without effect, and bootrec /FixBoot which gives the error message: Element not found. What else can I do? Why would diskpart say there are no volumes on the disk?

  • Nvidia restricted driver = invisible menus when using VNC

    - by Fred Hamilton
I'm installing 9.04 on an HTPC, so I will often VNC in to work on it from my laptop. After the initial install, I updated everything, and it all went fine. I was able to VNC using Ubuntu's built-in "Remote Desktop" with no problems. I then installed the 180.xx restricted nvidia drivers and rebooted. Everything worked fine on my TV, but when I VNC'd into it, all I could see was the background and title bar. When I'd pull down a menu, the menu was visible on the TV but not over the VNC link. I assume that means the GUI was now using some sort of overlay for the menus, which is fine, but what's the best way to make them visible over VNC? Clarification: I know I can turn off all visual effects and solve the problem, but I'm looking for a way to see the menus over VNC while keeping the GUI pretty...
