• BES Express - configure MDS to push messages from 3rd party web application

  Hi! I have developed IIS web service to send PAP messages using Blackberry Push API over MDS. And there is an application installed on device, configured to receive push messages on appropriate port. Everything works well on MDS simulator. But it's not working well in real environment: I have installed BES Express and register several devices. I can browse MDS url with appropriate port, so url is correct. Also port enabled for reliable pushes is used in push message and in device application. • 3rd monitor with Dell Precision 490

  I am trying to go for a 3 monitor setup on my workstation, but need some information before I can invest in a new graphics card and 2 monitors. Would be glad to get some help here: I have a Dell Precision 490 workstation with Nvidia Quadro FX 4500 graphics card (PCI-E 16) on it. It has 2 DVI-D ports that can support 2 monitors upto 2560x1600 resolution. For the third monitor, I was looking at Nvidia NVS 295 card, however I am not sure if it is physically possible to hook another card to the motherboard. Here is the spec of Precision 490: http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/precn/en/spec_precn_490_en.pdf Can I attach NVS 295 to it? If not, what options do I have?

• Ubuntu - connecting 3rd monitor fails with "xrandr: cannot find crtc for output DVI-0"

  I've got a laptop with a DVI and VGA output on the back. With everything connected it will only allow me to run 2 of the 3 monitors e.g. laptop display + VGA or DVI+VGA but not all 3. xrandr says I have 2 CRTC's, 0 and 1. The internet says I should be able to share a CRTC if the modeline is the same, and my 2 external monitors are the exact same make and model. How do I convince the software to drive all this hardware?

Is there some sort of managed software solution that will centralize management of all my IIS6 environments provide some inventory functionality allow for reporting or querying of said application inventory enforce and automate some sort of deployment process?

• Xorg: How can I map AltGr to the CapsLock Key (to toggle 3rd level symbols)

  Hi, as many others I don't need Capslock. I want to reassign it to have the function of AltGr. I use Kubuntu 9.10 but I think there must be a solution which is distribution independent. I already tried to use setxkbmap or xmodmap. Using xmodmap at least I managed that the CapsLock key to behaves like the Delete key by following this description. But I could not achieve assigning the AltGr behavior to CapsLock.

• 2nd/3rd version of wireless network appears

  I replaced an old SpeedTouch ADSL router with a Netgear DG384 that I have and whilst doing so decided to change the wireless password. For this question assume my wireless network SSID is DeddersHome. On my netbook and macbook pro (running Win7) it won't connect to the Internet. When I hover over the tray icon for wireless it says "DeddersHome 2" and "DeddersHome 3" have no internet connection. What are these additional wireless networks? I can't see them in the wireless network list on any wireless device I have. Wired connections and wireless through my iPhone work fine. I saw this before with the SpeedTouch, but it just went away!! I also have one Apple AirPort Express connected to the wireless network which my Xbox is connected to (wired). This all worked before... I am going to remove AirPort to see if it is this causing the problem, but thought I'd ask the question to give it time for an answer whilst I continue to search. Cheers

• VBA + Polymorphism: Override worksheet functions from 3rd party

  my company makes extensive use of a data provider using a (closed source) VBA plugin. In principal, every query follows follows a certain structure: Fill one cell with a formula, where arguments to the formula specify the query the range of that formula is extended (not an arrray formula!) and cells below/right are filled with data For this to work, however, a user has to have a terminal program installed on the machine, as well as a com-plugin referenced in VBA/Excel. My Problem These Excelsheets are used and extended by multiple users, and not all of them have access to the data provider. While they can open the sheet, it will recalculate and the data will be gone. However, frequent recalculation is required. I would like every user to be able to use the sheets, without executing a very specific set of formulas. Attempts remove the reference on those computers where I do not have terminal access. This generates a NAME error i the cell containing the query (acceptable), but this query overrides parts of the data (not acceptable) If you allow the program to refresh, all data will be gone after a failed query Replace all formulas with the plain-text result in the respective cells (press a button and loop over every cell...). Obviously destroys any refresh-capabilities the querys offer for all subsequent users, so pretty bad, too. A theoretical idea, and I'm not sure how to implement it: Replace the functions offered by the plugin with something that will be called either first (and relay the query through to the original function, if thats available) or instead of the original function (by only deploying the solution on non-terminal machines), which just returns the original value. More specifically, if my query function is used like this: =GETALLDATA(Startdate, Enddate, Stockticker, etc) I would like to transparently swap the function behind the call. Do you see any hope, or am I lost? I appreciate your help. PS: Of course I'm talking about Bloomberg... Some additional points to clarify issues raise by Frank: The formula in the sheets may not be changed. This is mission-critical software, and its way too complex for any sane person to try and touch it. Only excel and VBA may be used (which is the reason for the previous point...) It would be sufficient to prevent execution of these few specific formulas/functions on a specific machine for all excel sheets to come This looks more and more like a problem for stackoverflow ;-)

• Slow LAN transfer from 3rd party computer

  Hi Everyone, I've got an odd problem that I'm not really sure where to start the troubleshooting process. I have a 'server' with Windows Server 2008R2 (64-bit) installed and it has a couple of hard drives. If I Remote Desktop into the server and transfer files from one HD to the other, all it fine. If however, I use my workstation (Windows 7 64bit) and open up a shared resource on the server and transfer a file from one hard drive on the server to another HD on the server (not using Remote Desktop, just Windows explorer/Network places), the transfer crawls... It takes about 5mins to discover files/calculate the transfer and then starts transferring at speeds like 56KB/s - 200KB/s. Both machines have Marvel GigE network ports with a TrendNet 8-port green GigE switch. I've set Jumbo packets to 9K on both machines...

I have a lot of respect for the People who visit this SITE and help others ! Just To clarify : Just to go by SF rules - I am not seeking someone to Design this solution, I am simply seeking real world examples, experiences, technical expert opinions / suggestions, any tips or tricks they may have or any problems they may have faced while doing something similar above with these products. I am also not asking for Capacity Planning for Storage, We have done some research and I am seeking Expert Assurance / Suggestions. We (our company) are planning to deploy Symantec Endpoint Protection and Symantec Desktop Recovery 2011 Desktop Edition to our 3000 - 4000 workstations (Windows7 32 and 64) with a few 100s with Windows XP 32/64 Bit. I have read the implementation guide for SEP and have read tech-notes for Desktop Recovery 2011. Our team have planned to deploy this as follows : 1 x dedicated SQL 2008R2 for Symantec Endpoint Protection (Instead of using the Embedded Database) 1 x Dedicated SQL 2008R2 for Symantec Desktop Recovery 2011 (Instead of using the Embedded Database) 1 x Dedicated W2K8 R2 Box for the SEPM (Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager - Mgmt. APP) 1 x Dedicated W2K8 R2 Box for the Symantec Desktop Recovery 2011 Management Application Agent Deployment : As per Symantec Documentation for both of the above, an agent can be pushed via the Mgmt. Application (provided no firewalls are blocking ports required etc. - we have Windows firewall disabled already). Server Hardware : Per SQL Server : 16GB RAM + SAS DISKS + Dual XEON, RAID-10 for the SQL DB or I can always mount a LUN from our existing Hitachi or EMC SAN. SEPM Server : 16GB RAM + SAS DISKS + DUAL XEON System Recovery MGMT SERVER : 16GB RAM + SAS DISKS + DUAL XEON Above is the initial plan we have for 3000 - 4000 client workstation (Windows) Now my Questions :-) a) If we had these users distributed amongst two sites with AD DC / GC in each site, How would I restrict SEPM and Desktop Mgmt. solution to only check for users in their respective site ? b) At present all users are under one building but we are going to move some dept. to a new location (with dedicated connectivity), How would we control which SEPM / MGMT Server is responsible for which site ? c) We have netbackup in our environment backing up other servers, I am planning to protect these 4 (2 x SQL, 1 x SEPM, 1 x System Recovery Mgmt. Server) via netbackup or I can use System recovery 2011 server edition on all 4 of these boxes as well. (License is not an issue as we have the complete symantec portfolio included in our license). d) Now - Saving Desktop backups - What strategies have you implemented ? Any best practice recommendation for a large user base ? I was thinking to either mount a LUN from our Hitachi SAN on the Symantec Recovery Server itself or backup to the users hard drive locally and then copy it over to a network location ? • Tool/Program/Script/Formula for deciphering Active Directory Connection Strings for 3rd party user i

  We're using WSFTP, which has an Active Directory Integration module. To populate the user accounts you need to provide a connection string akin to: OU=Users,DC=domain,DC=com CN=Domain Users,OU=Users,DC=domain,DC=com Questions: Is there a Tool/Program/Script/Formula that allows me to decipher how these strings might look based on what I can see in Active Directory Users & Computers? Is there a proper/accepted name for these types of connection strings? I don't even know what to Google to get more information about how to format one properly How would I troubleshoot the connection string if I think it looks correctly formatted, but it isn't working? Thanks!

• xrandr fails when 3rd monitor has higher resolution

  I tried many combinations with xrandr command under lubuntu 12.04 to setup my three monitors DVI (DELL 1) left detected as HDMI1 HDMI (LG E2290) middle detected as HDMI2 VGA (DELL 2) right detected as VGA1 I can get the display with fix 1280x1024 on all the monitors. But once I setup 1280x1024 + 1920x1080 + 1280x1024, I get blank screen on all the monitors. Sometimes it throws crts fail error instead of blanking out. Anyone have similar issues? any solutions/workarounds? P.S. I can setup two monitors using 1280x1280 and 1920x1080 P.S.S. HDMI2 required at least 1920x1080 to display sharp picture.   I'm using Debian Testing together with the Deb Multimedia (previously Debian Multimedia) repository for testing. I want to reduce the priority of the deb-multimedia packages so it only installs certain packages. I've tried with: Package: * Pin: release o="Unofficial Multimedia Packages" Pin-Priority: 10 and Package: * Pin: origin "mirror.home-dn.net" Pin-Priority: 10 But neither works, the packages still have the default priority (500). The Release file from the repository looks like this: Archive: testing Version: None Component: main Origin: Unofficial Multimedia Packages Label: Unofficial Multimedia Packages Architecture: amd64 What am I doing wrong? Edit: It worked when I used the Version information instead: Package: * Pin: release v=None Pin-Priority: 10 But I still don't know the reason the other filters didn't work.

• Warning popups that direct to 3rd party sites

  Lately, I've been getting warning popups on my browser (latest version of Chromium) that notify me that my Java version of current browser is outdated and needs to be updated. What's alarming to me is that it sends me to some sites I've never heard of like Malest.com. When I block a site, it redirects me to a different one. I don't know how to track what's causing these alerts. I ran Microsoft Security Essential and it found nothing. Any suggestions on what to do to nail down this irritating problem?

• TFS Build Server Cannot find Assembly Reference

  I looked at this post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/547468/assembly-references-wont-resolve-properly-on-our-build-server but it didn't help the issue. I am (extremely) new to TFS, and just installed 2010 on a VM. I imported a project and got everything working-ish. I went to create a new build through team explorer, and set it up to build on each check-in. It build's locally just fine, but when it's built on check-in it dies on a 3rd party assembly reference. The reference is not in the GAC, but part of the local references. There is only one 3rd party dll, and the projects only reference each other in the solution. I have a feeling I'm missing some important step with regards to TFS and references. Any ideas? EDIT: This a test installation...there is nothing else installed on this box, with the exception of SQL and IIS.

I have installed copSSH that i use for SFTP, and when i upload my files i am unable to change persmissions or take ownership or anything when logged in as an administrator. when i try to go to permissions i get: The permissions on uploads are incorrectly ordered, which may cause some entries to be ineffective. and all permissions are the grayed out. i have tried to use icacls to reset ownership and also tried to give myself full control through icacls however all attempts are met with a access is denied message and failed processing 669 files. all i wish to do is set up write and delete permissions on an upload folder for a CMS systems admin area, but i am a week into looking into this and i am still no wiser. Please could someone give some sound advice so i can get this running smooth thanks p.s i have added the copSSH notes as i think that when i SFTP the files to the server, this may somehow have some involvement in messing up permissions

• AVG 9 (Internet Security Business Edition) and IIS 6.0

  Are any of you using AVG 9 Internet Security Business Edition along with IIS 6.0 and if so have you experienced problems? We just went from 8.5 to 9.0... Luckily I tried on only one of the servers in the web farm first to run for a week to make sure it played well with my servers. A few hours after the install all web apps were giving a "connection refused" error. Neither iisrest or restarting world wide web publishing services resolves the issue, only rebooting the machine brings the webs back up. They are all ASP.Net sites by the way (v2.5). What's interesting is if I take the machine out of the load balancer, the machine runs fine and the webs are just fine for days... as soon as i put it back in the pool it's only a few hours before its sad. The only thing I can think of right now is that the Resident Shield may be causing an issue, any thoughts?

Can anyone point me in the direction of someone that can help me get this system up an running? I will mostly need help with integrating Alfresco with Active Directory (LDAP passthrough, user/group sync and SSO) and performance tuning the system. Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Forcing DFS replication on Windows 2003 Web Edition SP2

  I have a pair of web servers running Windows Server 2003 Web Edition SP2 (build 3790). There servers are a on a Gigabit LAN and are on the same subnet. I created a new link on the 1st server and added the second box as a target to the link. I configured replication as ring. The 2nd server gets some of the files on the scheduled replication but this varies wildly which makes me think it's not running fully. The folder on server 1 is 1.3GB. Is there some way I can force repication (from a console?) and monitor the progress and see if/when/why it fails.

• Sharing laptop's internal optical drive running windows XP Media Center Edition with Netbook running

  just got a new HP netbook with no optical drive and guide said I should be able to share the optical drive of another windows computer. The netbook is running Windows 7 and the laptop, also HP, with the internal optical drive is running Windows XP Media Center Edition. I have wireless network that both the laptop and netbook access without a problem. The instructions did not seem to work in my case. When I right clicked on Properties of the optical drive and went to the Sharing tab, there was no selction for Advanced Sharing as the instructions said. XP made me go to Network wizard and set up a network, (which I already had). After doing that I could not access the drive from Windows 7. Has anyone benn able to do this?

I read somewhere in forum that I have to make my C: logical and then I'd be able to split C: I did the same thing using Partition Wizard. I made C: of 125 GB and shift rest of the space in New drive. I made a bootable disk, performed all the task using partition Wizard After that I have not been able to boot my windows. Even after running system restore several times.

  I'm having a problem installing MS SQL Server 2008 Developer edition on a Vista Ultimate 64 Bit machine. No matter what I try: I uninstalled the previous installation; I deleted all folders that where installed and had to do with SQL Server 2008; I cleared my registry using ccleaner; I tried 'fixit' utility from Microsoft uninstalling left overs; It just keeps failing at installing setup support files with this error message: SQL Server Setup failure SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error: Unknown property. [OK] I'm totally out of ideas. Any one has a suggestion for me to look at?

• Help replacing old Windows 2003 SBS DC with a Win2008 Standard Edition DC

  Objective: Trying to replace a Windows 2003 SBS domain controller with a windows server 2008 Standard Edition Domain Controller. What I did: used ADPREP. Then all user accounts and OUs are successfully replicated into the 2008 server. I have also managed to transfer all the DC roles (operations master,schema,pdc) into the Server 2008. I have also used NETDOM QUERY FSMO . It displayed that all the roles transferred to the 2008 server. Problem: When I am trying to demote the windows 2003 SBS server using DCPROMO, the message is “No other Active Directory for this domain can be contacted”. I also tried shutting down the 2003 server. Users can login into the domain but they have trouble finding SHARED folders. Can someone help me find out what I did wrong ? Need a little push in the right direction here. Thank you very much ?

  Is there a way to change the desktop wallpaper in Windows 7 Starter Edition? I wanted to do that on my new netbook, just to find out that there is no "Customize" option in the control panel. Microsoft obviously wants to keep the netbook users rather rigidly from customizing their machines. It isn't even possible to edit the picture itself in the C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows\ directory, due to lack of rights. From what I can tell only the user "Trusted Installer" would have enough rights to do so... Update: With your help I found two programs that are able to bypass Microsoft's limitations: Starter Wallpaper Changer (Thanks to Sopan and javier.
