  • Simple mod_rewrite Question

    Hello, I want to have everything that looks like this: /1/2/3/4/5/[...] to redirect to this: /index.php?u=/1/2/3/4/5/[...] unless the requested string is a specific file. So anything that doesn't have a ".", I want to redirect to "index.php?u=[...]". I'll then parse the URI segments in PHP to determine what the user is requesting. I've been looking around for how to do this, but have only a very rough understanding of regular expressions and have been unable to find an example of how to do it. Thanks!

  • WINAPI window management question

    I'm learning to develop windows applications using WINAPI and plain C. Now I got a bit confused with all those handles and would like to ask if you guys could teach me some good practices to structure and handle controls and windows. Here's where I get confused: Using the IDs declared in the resources for each object, we can get their handles using GetDlgItem(). Now what if we don't know their parent, which is needed by this function. One example: We have the main window created at launch. Then we register two new window classes and create a window for each new class and we create a message function for each too. Now if inside one of the children windows I create a button and inside the other child window I create a text label. Now when we click the button inside of child window A the label in child window B shall be modified to whatever. The WM_COMMAND for the button is interpreted inside the message loop for child window A. Now what would be the best and more elegant way to access the text label inside the child window B? I am in the process of learning the WINAPI and just want to learn it right from the start instead of producing Hacked code that someday becomes unreadable and to later have to adapt to a new way of programing.

  • GPU optimization question: pre-computed or procedural?

    Good morning, I'm learning shader program and need some general direction. I want to add noise to my laser beam (like this). Which is the best way to handle it? I could pre-compute an image and pass it to the shader. I could then use the image to change the opacity and easily animate the smoke by changing the offset of the texture lookup. I could also generate noise in the shader and do the same thing the texture was used for. Is it generally better to avoid I/O to the graphics card or the opposite? Thanks!

  • OpenGL Beginner question

    I'm new to OpenGL programming, but I can't find a good book to read or a tutorial, I've tried reading through the superbible or whatever its name is but it's kind of complicated to me. The tutorial at http://duriansoftware.com/joe/An-intro-to-modern-OpenGL.-Chapter-2.3:-Rendering.html is pretty ok but it doesn't cover what I need mostly, which is opengl math etc (such as projection matrix, view matrix, and so on). I'm fairly OK at C(++) (3+ years experience, I don't know if you would call that "good") What i basically want to do with OpenGL is, make a simple game (prefer 2D as a start and not 3D). Please suggest a good EBook to read and learn from.

  • Boot screen appears to be asking a question but garbled

    I'm running 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Kernel 3.2.0-32 w/ GNOME 3.4.2 I perused the prior questions/answers and did not find exactly the same problem, I am concerned that AUTOFSCK, Grub or some other critical event that needs some attention ? Any idea on how to get my video clean during boot? Once I get past the boot screen the video driver/card, etc is performing beautifully !   • Question about initial interview for job [closed]

    So I feel kind of stupid having to ask this but tomorrow I have a phone interview with a good company. Phone interviews themselves not a big deal for me, but having to tell them my salary expectations is. The position that I'm applying for is a mid-level software engineer, I fit all of the requirements (I'm not overly qualified by any means), and I want to be sure I'm not asking for an amount that would be absurd or too little. Now, assuming I get a second interview and have to complete some sort of puzzle/code/work, they may pay me +/- whatever I asked for based upon their evaluation of my work. What I'd like to know, is what is a good amount to ask for? Or am I completely wrong with my assumptions? Either way some advice would be much appreciated!

  • Repainting a window with a new scene with winapi (beginner question)

    I'm following theForger's win32 API tutorial in order to create a GUI for a project. I've successfully made simple, one window applications, but I can't figure out how to repaint an entire window with new information. As an example: I have five buttons corresponding to five colors on the main application window. When a user clicks a color button, the entire window is repainted such that: 1. all five buttons are removed and a new "back" button is replaced, 2. the background is colored the color that was picked. I'm able to change the background color by trapping the button pressed message in my wndproc, but I can't figure out how to change the entire window with a new "scene" (removing the color buttons and adding a back button). This seems like a trivial task, but I can't find a solution in tutorials. Do I need to declare a new windows class with the back button and then have my button trap create a window of this class?

  • (SYSLINUX QUESTION) How to launch command prompt once syslinux boots up

    I have created a bootable USB drive using SYSLINUX I am booting my x86 system correctly. Once system boots I want to stop at console (command prompt) where I can type linux commands (cd etc) and run my executable file manually. Does that mean I have to have busy box installed (for basic commands). What makes system stop at command prompt? I do have /dev/console. My serial console is tty1.     I am having a difficulty in deciding the database & its structure. Let us say the problem is like this. For my product I have various customers( each is an educational institute) Each customer have their own sub-clients ( Institution have students) Each student record will have some basic information like "name" & "Number" . There are also additional information that a customer(institution) might want to ask sub-client(student) like "email" or "semester" I have come up with two solutions : 1. Mysql _insititution__ id-|- Description| __Student__ id-|-instituition_id-|-Name-|-Number| __student_additional_details__ student_id -|- field_name -|- Value Student_additional_details will have multiple records for each student depending upon number of questions asked from institution. 2.MongoDb _insititution___ id-|- Description| _Student__ id-|-instituition_id-|-Name-|-Number|-otherfield1 -|- otherfield2 with mongo the structure itself can be dynamic so student table seems really good in mongo . But the problem comes when I have to relate student with institution . So which one is a better design ? Or some other idea ?

    I am going through some exam questions for the 70-536 exam and an actual question one developer postedon his blog has popped up in my exam questions. I cannot remember what his answer was .... but below is the question: You need to write a multicast delegate that accepts a DateTime arguement and returns a bool value. Which code segment should you use? A: public delegate int PowerDeviceOn(bool, DateTime) B: public delegate bool PowerDeviceOn(Object, EventArgs) C: public delegate void PowerDeviceOn(DateTime) D: public delegate bool PowerDeviceOn(DateTime) The answer is A. Can someone please explain why? As I already did some research into this question a while ago and so I was sure that it was C, obviously now looking back at the question its clear that I did not read properly. As i was sure I had seen the same one before so I jumped to the most obvious one. A varitation on this question: You need to write a multicast delegate that accepts a DateTime arguement. The variation has no official answer as I just conjured it up using the exam question as a baseplate. The answer is definately C. This time round its easy to see why C is correctr but the very first question I have an inkiling but as you know an inkling is not good enough in passing exams. Thanks For Reading.

    hi, i'm having a strange problem with photoshop: i'm creating a new layer then use the path tool for drawing something. the new path will then only show up under "paths" but the current layer remains empty. shouldn't it show up there being labelled as "shape"? what i want is creating a path, apply layer styles to it and keep the possibilty to change that path with layer styles applied. seems like some setting was changed inside my cs4 thanks

    I have an israeli spreadsheet reading right to left. When I read the values (using VBA) it places a question mark (?) at the beginning and end of the text, in other words it wraps the text with the question mark (ie ?0123456?). If you type Range("A2").value or .value2 or .text the results are the same. Any idea on how to prevent this?

  • Fiscal year, quarters, student table, and faculty table... How do I relate these?!

    I have a student and faculty table. The primary key for student is studendID (SID) and faculty's primary key is facultyID, naturally. Student has an advisor column and a requested advisor column, which are foreign key to faculty. That's simple enough, right? However, now I have to throw in dates. I want to be able to view who their advisor was for a certain quarter (such as 2009 Winter) and who they had requested. The result will be a table like this: Year | Term | SID | Current | Requested ------------------------------------------------ 2009 | Winter | 860123456 | 1 | NULL 2009 | Winter | 860445566 | 3 | NULL 2009 | Winter | 860369147 | 5 | 1 And then if I feel like it, I could also go ahead and view a different year and a different term. I am not sure how these new table(s) will look like. Will there be a year table with three columns that are Fall, Spring and Winter? And what will the Fall, Spring, Winter table have? I am new to the art of tables, so this is baffling me... Also, I feel I should clarify how the site works so far now. Admin can approve student requests, and what happens is that the student's current advisor gets overwritten with their request. However, I think I should not do that anymore, right?
