I have files in Ubuntu which is running via VMware that I need to get to my Windows host machine. How do I transfer these files if I don't have VMware Tools installed?
Thanks,
Bobby
I tried to disable IPv6 on specific interface using IPV6INIT=no on the interface script.

Related: Use Synaptics Touchpad Scroll in VMware Guest
I've read that it's not possible to enable multitouch in vmware guest.
What confuses me, is that when I use something special (like two finger scroll) in guest OS, I can see the cursor change to the scrolling one.
Is this some kind of virtualization bug or is there a possibility that I can enable multitouch in guest?
Host: Windows 7
Guest: Ubuntu 12.04
I have a VMWare image of a mac OSX 10.6.8 (fully updated).
When I click Commnd+Shift+3 it makes a camera shutter sound,
but no screen-capture is saved anywhere that I can find.
When running:
defaults read com.apple.screencapture location
it returns
/Users/admin/Pictures/Captures
this folder exists and is empty
also executed
chmod 777 /Users/admin/Pictures/Captures
Any ideas anyone ?
Could this be related to the VMware screen resolution(Size) of this MAC?
(currently set to 1348x1391)
I'm running VMWare Workstation 7 and I want to use the "vmware-unity-helper.exe" utility. Does this utility work in windows? I've found several articles that say that it does not work with VM Workstation 6.5 but nothing on 7. Thanks.
is there a way to fix your windows 7 professional guest host os ipaddress so it does not change every time you startup? I am currently using NAT for networking and would like to remain using this networking method if possible. In older versions of windows this never used to be a problem in vmware so I am wondering if I am missing a setting in windows 7 professional or in vmware.
thank you for your help,
chris
I have a friend on the same network as me hosting a virtual machine using vmware server. The guest OS is Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003.He granted me administrative priveleges for the machine but when i try to add a user to that VM it says access denied.
Moreover when i try to start the VM remotely using the command
vmrun -T server -h https://computer-name.domain.com:8333/sdk -u domain/user -p passwd start "[standard] Win2k3Client1/Win2k3Client1.vmx"
This shows unsufficient priveleges on host operating system but i am able to login with same username password on VMWare Web Access
Currently we use an iSCSI SAN as storage for several VMware ESXi servers. I am investigating the use of an NFS target on a Linux server for additional virtual machines. I am also open to the idea of using an alternative operating system (like OpenSolaris) if it will provide significant advantages.
What Linux-based filesystem favours very large contiguous files (like VMware's disk images)? Alternatively, how have people found ZFS on OpenSolaris for this kind of workload?
I have a .vmdk (VMWare hard disk) file that I cannot use as the lone disk in a new virtual machine. If I attach it to an existing virtual machine then it works fine. It has Windows Server 2003 on it.
When I attempt to boot the new VM it attempts a network boot.
EDIT: VMWare Workstation 6.5
I could not find a PXE option in the settings, and I did look in the VM config file for "PXE" but did not find one.
ive been trying to install vmware workstation on my windows 7 computer.

I have a Windows XP x64 install in VMware Fusion. The amount of space that the VM reports as used (C:) is ~20GB. However, the amount of space the VM is taking up on my disk is 30GB. Why the inconsistency? I do not have autoprotect enabled, nor do I have any snapshots I'm aware of. I have defragmented the drive and used Drive Cleanup from the VMware settings.
Hello,
I have bought a boxed version of Windows 7 Home Premium (not OEM). I want to install this on new iMac via bootcamp but I also want to use this Bootcamped partition via VMWare Fusion.
VMWare fusion has article about activating bootcamped windows installation.
Does this work setup work for you?
I'm currently testing out a new proxy system that I'd like to try out on my own computer. Because I do not have an additional PC available, I though I'd do it with VMware. Here's what I'd like to do:
The physical computer is to make an internet connection using the VMware proxy and not the router. Is this (1) possible and (2) if so, how am I to accomplish this?
Thanks!
XP is my host. Ubuntu is my Guest in VMware.
When I do the following commands, I should get SMTP respones but now get no response.
I use wireshark to analayze it. Also in wireshark shows nothing.

How can I fix it?
I am trying to remove some VMWare images that were created by a machine that is no longer available. We do not plan to use VMWare and would like to clear up the space.
I get a message Cannot delete [filename]... for all of the files in these directories.
Can anyone tell me how to delete them (short of reformatting)?
Thanks

I just upgraded to the newest version of Ubuntu, which I run in VMware Player. After reboot I can't enter my password. The keyboard doesn't seem to work with it even though it works fine outside of VMware.
I have a win7 64bit VM running on Vmware 7 workstation on a host (win7 64bit). The vm was able to see the network just fine, but now it cannot. I was running 6.5.3 and installed vmware 7 then rebuilt the vm. still nothing. The vm is set for bridge on vnet0.
Any thoughts?

As per the title.
My VMWare player installation has setup the two network adaptor VMnet1 and VMnet8 and they are picked up as unidentified networks with no network access (i need this to activate my windows server installation on it).
The option to change the network location is not available (this might be because of network policy on the domain despite having set this as configurable in the local security policy section). Is there anyway i can change how these networks are detected or alter the configuration of vmware to get around this?
I want to connect to my vmware vm from home.
To work network i'm connecting through VPN.
VM sits on one of the workstations (can connect to it through RDC).
Any tips how to do that? What software do i need (got VMWare workstation atm)?
p.s. i'm quite a newbie at this.
Please provide your tips and best practices for virtualizing SQL Server in VMWare ESX
I am interested in advanced configurations and settings.
Please provide reasoning behind your recommendations
Edit:
Just to clarify, I already have over 70 Virtual SQL servers in separate clusters using an ISCSI equallogic San -
What I am really looking for are those advanced configurations like:
How you configured your disks / RDM's
Do you make use of settings like
Mem.ShareScanGHz - http://communities.vmware.com/thread/143828 -
that are not well documented
I need to mount a VMWare disk image in Windows 7 64-Bit however the "VMware Mount Utility" only works on 32-Bit operating systems. Is there an application or method that I can use to mount the disk?
I have Gitorious running on a Centos 5.3 install on a VMWare virtual machine under VMWare Server. Everytime we take down the server via suspend to back up the image, and resume the VM, the git-daemon dies.
All my other processes continue to function without any problems, this one process dies and has to be manually be restarted.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening, or how to make sure this process never dies off?
Is there any way to install Windows 8 on a VMWare Workstation 6.5.
I can't install it, get this message:
The installation failed with this error "vcpu-0:NOT_IMPLEMENTED vmcore/vmm/intr/apic.c
I found this link
