• Prevent Visual Studio Web Test from changing request details

  I have a service that accepts Xmla queries for Analysis services, often times those queries themselves will have a string that contains a fragment that looks something like {{[Time].[Year].[All]}} Recording these requests works fine but when I try to re-run the test I get an error from the test runner... Request failed: Exception occurred: There is no context parameter with the name ' [Time].[Year].[All]' in the WebTestContext This was confusing for some time but when I asked VS to generate a coded version of the test I was able to see the problem a bit better. VS searches for the '{{' and '}}' tokens and makes changes, considering those areas to refer to Context parameters, the code looks like this.Context["\n\t[Time].[Year].[All]"].ToString() Anyone know how to instruct Visual Studio to not perform this replacement operation? Or another way around this issue?

• Web Performance testing using VS2010 "Testing a file download"

  Hi All, I am trying out the VS 2010 testing tools for the first time. And I tried recording a web performance test and my actions had a file download implemented as in the KB article here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812406 by streaming chunks of 10000 bytes. However my test is failing at the download saying "The response stream has been closed". Please help me understand why it is happening this way also any suggestions how you would test such a file download. My main aim was to see how the download was performing for a load test with Intercontinental 350kbps connection on files of about 30-50 MB. Thanks.

• Looking for "tech call" tracking software.

  The company I work for is looking for the best way to track "tech calls". We would most likely develop in house using vb.net, but possibly could look at using some open source vb.net software already out there. We will probably want to track just the basic info like client, datetime, length of call & a notes section about the call. One idea that has floated around is recording everyone's calls, watching a directory for new files and popping up a form so the user can enter the info when the call is over. We really don't want to spend a lot of time tracking/logging these calls, something quick & simple. Anybody have a good idea or solution that they have used before?

  I have to develop some software in my school to utilize the accelerometer in the Wiimote for recording data from experiments, for example finding the acceleration and velocity of a moving object. I understand how the accelerometer values will be used but I am sort of stuck on the programming front. There is a set of things that I would like to do: Live streaming of data from the Wiimote via bluetooth Use the accelerometer values to find velocity and displacment via integration Plot a set of results Avoid the use of the infrared sensor on the Wiimote Please can anyone give me their thoughts on how to go about this. Also it would be great if people could direct me to existing projects that utizlise the wiimote. Also can someone suggest what would be the best programming language to use for this. My current bet is on using Visual basic. Any sort of help is greatly appretiated.

• Is there an easy way of obtaining the total page response time in ASP.Net?

  Hello, commonly on say PHP or other web frameworks getting the total response time is easy, just start the timer at the top of the file and stop it at the end. In ASP.Net there is the whole Page Lifecycle bit though so I'm not sure how to do this. I would like for this response time recording to take place in a master page and the response time show up in the footer of pages. What would be the best way of doing this? Is there something built in to ASP.Net for it? Is it even possible to include the OnRender time?

• [Android SDK] Text-To-Speech addSpeech not working properly

  Hi, I'm trying to get my Android app to play a .wav file recording of the word "Spinach Salad" whenever it sees that phrase being spoken by TTS. Here's the relevant code: spinach_salad.wav is located in /res/raw prodName = "Spinach Salad" mTts.addSpeech(prodName, "com.example.textextractor", R.raw.spinach_salad); ...and later in the code: mTts.speak("blah blah blah " + prodName, TextToSpeech.QUEUE_ADD, null); I've also tried: mTts.speak("blah blah blah Spinach Salad", TextToSpeech.QUEUE_ADD, null); and mTts.speak("blah blah blah", TextToSpeech.QUEUE_ADD, null); mTts.speak(productName_str, TextToSpeech.QUEUE_ADD, null); In both cases, I'm just hearing the TTS synthesized audio, rather than my custom .wav file. (On a related note, the last chunk of code sometimes speaks out of order, saying the second line before the first).

  This is an application for reviewing performance tests. Simple in concept, tricky to describe. Picture: 1) Recording interactions with a WPF program so the inputs can be played back. 2) Playing the inputs back while doing a continuous screen capture. 3) Capturing wall time as well as continuous CPU percentages during playback. 4) Repeating steps (2) and (3) lots of times. 5) Writing the relevant stuff out to files/db. 6) Reading it and putting it all in a fancy UI for easy review/analysis. The killer for me is (2). I could use some guidance on a good, possibly commercial, screen capture SDK. I would also welcome the news that my whole problem already has a solution. And of course any thoughts on the overall idea would also be great. Thanks. Ed

• Mysql query - problem with order by

  I'm using two tables for selecting messages between users. Table "messages" for recording the messages and table "members" for checking users data (are they activ or deleted). This query working fine. What I need to do is list the received messsages order by last received. I tried to do with "ORDER BY messages.id DESC" at the end of this query but it didn't work. All messages are listed from first received. This is the mysql join table query that I'm using: sql = "select distinct messages.fromid, messages.readed, messages.fromid, messages.toid, members.id as pid From messages Inner Join members on members.id = messages.fromid Where messages.toid = ".$mid." • How to pull a RANDOM and UNIQUE record from SQL via LINQ.

  Okay, I found lots of posts on SO about how to pull a RANDOM item from the database when using LINQ. There seems to be a couple of differnet ways to handle this. What I need to do though is pull a RANDOM item from the database that the user has not seen before. The data I am pulling from the database is very small. Is there any way I can just hit the database once for 1000 records and then randomly scroll through those? Should I put a cookie on the users system recording the IDs of which items they have seen, pull a random record, check to see if it is seen and if so, pull from the database again? That seems like performance issues just waiting to happen. I don't expect anyone to code it for me, I am just looking for concepts and pointing in the right direction of how I should go about this. Need more details? Just let me know!

  I am planning on using Flash Builder 4/Flex to write an AIR application which is primarily based around recording, storing and analyzing data. I'll be creating charts etc that need to update in almost real time. It's essential to me that the application be able to function without an internet connection so I need a local database of some variety, but I would also eventually like to build in online synchronization of the data where either database can be update each other based on newer information. • Getting NoClassDefFoundError only with TestCases

  I have one class, that creates excel sheet.For that I added poi-3.2.jar to classpath. I am working with Eclipse3.7. I have generated testcases by recording workbench actions using with WindowTester Pro. I edited generated testcase and tried to create excel sheet within that to write test result. If I use same API from normal java program (within that plugin itself), it can able to create excel file without errors. But, when I try to create from testcase, I am getting the following error: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/poi/hssf/usermodel/HSSFWorkbook I have added required jar file into lib folder and added to build-path. Why its working from normal java program, but not working from WindowTester generated testcase. Could anyone help me.

  I would like to build a simple reader app for the iPad 2 that would allow users to navigate/read via voice controls. The app would allow the user to enter a mode where the microphone was live and listened for predefined keywords like 'down', 'up', 'next', 'back', 'home', etc. I don't want to reinvent the wheel on this so I'm just wondering first, if someone has done this already and if not, are there any good tutorials or SDKs available to help with recording someone's voice, and then comparing future output to see if it matches, or just dealing with the microphone in general?

• Firefox - Stashing Requests for Deliberate Resubmission to Django App

  I've got an object creation form that's somewhat complicated, it contains a few dynamic formsets etc. I'm trying to ensure that these dynamic formsets are intact if the form runs into an error and returns you to the given page. In cases like this, the refresh button actually works well in re-submitting the request, but I can't rely on it. I'm doing some ad-hoc testing in the browser that I'd like to make a bit more repeatable, and eventually move to a unit test using Django's mock client. Is there an extension, or some convenient method to stash requests for later re-submission. The goal: I resubmit the request, tweak the code, eyeball the results, rinse and repeat. Three days later I can come back to it an try it again to make sure it's still working. The closest thing I can think of in this case is simply recording my activity with Selenium ide and replaying it.

  If it were a windows program, I would use Auto it to automate testing. Is there something similar for browser-based apps? Nothing too complex, it should just allow scripting (preferable for me to macro-recording) to simulate human interaction with the browser, which means being able to identify fields of a form by name, inject text into some, simulate mouse-click on others, etc and then, after submitting a form, should be able to read text certain named controls, check the status of others (checked, radio group index, read-only, etc). While I do appreciate a full featured product, I don't appreciate a steep learning curve. so something as simple as the scripting of Auto It woudl be fine. I don't know if it makes a difference which browser is used, but I could live with MSIE 6 or higher (maybe 7 or higher at a push).

• Does it make sense to use BOTH mongodb and mysql in the same rails application?

  I have a good reason to use mongodb for part of my app. But people generally describe it as not a good fit for "transactional" applications like a bank where transactions have to be exact/consistent, etc. Does it make sense to split the models up in Rails and have some of them use MySql and others mongo? Or will this generally cause more problems than it's worth? I'm not building a banking app or anything, but was thinking it might make sense for my users table or or transactions table (recording revenue) to do that part in MySql.

  I hava a simple program about video recording . I use the surfaceView to show the preview screen. and I also want to put some buttons on the screen. I put all the component mentioned above into a XML file which is "ipcam.xml" I use MediaRecorder , SurfaceView , SurfaceHolder to complete this program because the preview screen does not orientate correctly when I rotate my phone. so I use "setRequestedOrientation(ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_LANDSCAPE);" but , the button in the program is always in LANDSCAPE direction . it will not auto change direction when I rotate my phone , but the preview is ok!! so is there anyway to solve this problem. The desired result is to intercept this instantiation and perform an operation on the public connection that is opened in the ctor of System.Web.DataAccess.SqlConnectionHolder before letting execution continue. Is this possible. If so, an brief example would be appreciated.

• Getting camera preview data without using a preview callback

  I have an app that does some processing to camera preview frames before displaying them to the user. I'm currently using preview callbacks to access the image data, but the problem I have is that the onPreviewFrame() function stops getting called if you start recording video using a MediaRecorder, and I want the processing to continue when video is being recorded. I've tried doing the following: public static Bitmap convertViewToBitmap(View view) { Bitmap bitmap = Bitmap.createBitmap(view.getWidth(),view.getHeight(), Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888); view.draw(new Canvas(bitmap)); return bitmap; } to convert the preview surface to a bitmap, but when I pass the preview SurfaceView to the function it returns an all-black bitmap (it works when I test it on normal views though). Is there any other way I can access the image data if preview callbacks are not available?

• Inconsistent values in network switch throughput values

  Quite simple, I have a network switch with SNMP, and need to calculate the throughput of the switch port, so simply I use ifOutOctets. We transfer a file which is 145MB and if we use the total from the start, subtracted from the value at the end then the value is : 158901842 I simply can't get the value to match, or be anything similar to what the real transfer is. I understand that there may be excess traffic etc but I just can't get it to be anywhere similar (the server being tested has no traffic when this is not running) We have tried for a long time and suspect there may be an issue with the recording on the HP switch, do you have any suggestions, or how should we be calculating it? I created a macro that inserts a row, automatically adds today's date and calculates a moving average based on my input. There is also a chart to visualize my progress. I have tried recording a macro that updates the time series in the graph, but to no success. How can I create a macro or VBA script that, when executed, updates the range of the graph from A(x):Cy to A(x-1):Cy to include today's measurement? Thanks!

  I have several regular expressions to find and replace text in documents in TextMate. I would like to be able to have them run in a batch. I made a macro and it worked, but any tiny modifications to the macro means re-recording the macro. And I can't seem to modify the regex within the TextMate interface. It's read-only for some reason. Can I make it into a command? Does anyone know how? I tried to read the TextMate help about commands, but it wasn't much help. It seems I need prior knowledge of shell scripts or some sort (which I have none). Any advise in the direction would be great. Thanx in advance.

• Problem using AudioRecord with 8-bit encoding in android

  Hello, I have made an application that records from the phones microphone using the AudioRecord and 16-bit encoding, and I am able to playback the recording. • Flash Media Server dynamic file naming

  I'm trying to figure out most efficient/safe way to name recorded streams on FMS. The case is to get listing of recorded streams from the server (eg. rec_001, rec_002...) and dynamically add rec_003 filename to the new stream that is being recorded. I'm thinking about either using FMS File Object and put everything in array of files every time I start recording procedure or to create XML file that would serve as a database of file names. I'm searching for a solution efficient for MULTIPLE connections at a time and large amount of files. Which one of presented would be the best for this purpose? Or do you have any better suggestions of solving this problem?
