  • Start Windows GUI Application Development With C++

    I'm looking into creating a GUI program for Windows in C++, I have a good knowledge of C++ in the command line and also in game creation. But I'm not sure where to start with GUI application development. I have Visual Studio 2010 and have created new projects with a GUI but these templates are complex and leaves me not understanding whats happening and how to modify it. So I'm asking where do I start? Preferably good websites that you can recommend or tutorials, rather than books being a poor student :)

I need to store words according to 2 initial letters which is 676 combinations and each word has its number of occurrences (minimal, maximal, average) in text. I'm not sure how the model/schema should look like. There will be a lot of checking whether the keyword was already persisted. I appreciate your suggestions.     Is there a library or tool that can take an html page and some css, and then render an image? I would like to define some templates server side using html code snippets, and some CSS to define the layout. Then using the template and CSS, I would like to essentially render an image of how this would display in a browser, and pass the image back to the client. Thanks.

  • How can I hide a work item field from some users in TFS 2008?

    I'm customizing work item templates in TFS 2008 through the PowerTools and I'm wondering is it possible to hide a field (or it's value) for certain users? For example, let's say I open TFS to my clients so they can submit feature requests. I'd like them to see the work item created, to see the history, changes etc. but I'd like to keep some of the field private and for our internal use. Is it possible?

C++ is a great general-purpose language, but perhaps too general and feature-rich: multiple inheritance, operator overloading, manual memory management, templates, smart pointers, virtual destructors, legacy frameworks (think MFC), and I could go on. Is there any one feature or aspect of C++ that you would like removed to make our lives easier as C++ developers? One feature per answer, please.

    Does anyone know a complete JSF 2.0 sample or open source application using JSF 2.0 features (Facelets, Composite Component, Templates, Ajax, Navigation, etc.). Would be a good reference to learn some best practices. I'm talking about an application that you would also use in production. The only ones I know are ScrumToys and PetCatalog which are delivered with NetBeans 6.9 and are "tutorial-like" applications.

    I use doubles for a uniform implementation of some arithmetic calculations. These calculations may be actually applied to integers too, but there are no C++-like templates in Java and I don't want to duplicate the implementation code, so I simply use "double" version for ints. Does JVM spec guarantees the correctness of integer operations such a <=,=, +, -, *, and / (in case of remainder==0) when the operations are emulated as corresponding floating point ops? (Any integer, of course, has reasonable size to be represented in double's mantissa)

    I am having trouble getting the value() injected into the app.config(). Here's the code (coffeescript) window.app = angular.module("app", []) app.value("template_path", "assets/angular/templates/users") app.config(["$routeProvider","template_path" ($routeProvider, template_path) -> console.log template_path it is throwing an "Unknown provider: template_path from app" error Could it be that the config() method cannot be injected with value() set values? Does anybody provide Visual Studio support for *IL in the form of: project templates, IntelliSense integration, and those kind of RAD features? Edits: I don't mean restricted to out of the box support. For example, I can download Visual Studio extensions to support Python, COBOL, etc. Want the same for *IL. There is a stand-alone Intermediate Assembler tool.

    I'm trying to create a custom SNMP datasource for Cacti but despite everything I can check being correct, it is not creating the rrd file, or updating it even when I create it. Other, standard SNMP sources are working correctly so it's not SNMP or permissions that are the problem. Increasing the poller log level shows that it appears to not even be querying the data source, despite it being used? What should my next steps to debug this issue be?

    I use Linux as primary OS. I need some suggestions regarding how should I set up my desktop and development. I do work on mostly .Net and Drupal, but some time on other lamp products and C/C++, Qt. I'm also interested in mobile (android..) and embedded development. Currently I install everything on my main OS, even I use it a little. I use VMs a little. Should I use separate VM for each kind of development (like one for .Net/Mono, another C++, one for mobile and one for db only, one for xyz things etc) Keep primary development environment on main os and moveothers in VM. main os should be messed up keep things easy to organize (must) performance should be optimal
