• Which ubuntu I shoul use for old desktop

  I have an old computer which has 512MB RAM and 128MB Graphic card. It has windows 95 currently, it loads fine but it has some issues with Internet connection and pendrive. I am tired of solving problems. I booted live CD of ubuntu 10.10. It loads slow and some diplay problems. But it resolved my internet problem and pendrive. So I want install ubuntu which is equivalent to windows 95 in boot, application load, graphics level. Can anyone suggest unbuntu version? What about xbuntu?

• Access secondary hard disk from Virtual Machine

  I have a fairly specific question. I had Ubuntu on my Laptop (for years). For a variety of reasons, I've had to switch to Windows but the computer has two hard drives. The main drive was reformatted and I've installed windows. The second hard drive still has the Linux system disk format (not sure on type). Obviously, windows can't access it but can I access it from a Virtual machine (VirtualBox) or will I need to load up a Live-Session to access / move the contents? Edit: If this is possible, how would one proceed to mount the disk?

  I am a php mysql developer ... just an (below) average. and i am interested in the way television and radio are broadcasted over internet live. i want to know how it works and and what are its requirements (which package of which programming language offers the best). i must admit that i am a complete layman but i expect it do by next half month or year or so. And please clarify me Websites are stored in servers. From my desktop, i want to broadcast some video, then i need to connect to webserver(to upstream the video). Is there an application to do that (or do i have to code that or embed in my web application and which programming language would be suitable(does python support that))? and i also need a script to handle the upstreamed video or audio(can i do that with php)?

• Community Day at SOS Kinderdorf Bambous

  Easter is not only an occassion of public holidays but an opportunity to share and celebrate with your neighborhood. The team of IOS Indian Ocean Software Ltd. spent Easter Monday with the children and "mothers" of SOS Children's Village in Bambous. Together with the employees' family members we enjoyed some wonderful hours together. Starting the community day with a common lunch, IOS contributed mainly stationery, educational gifts and games like Scrabble or Sudoku. And of course, a little give-away with chocolate eggs... The kids are aged between 5 and 18 years. They live together with their village mothers in so-called family houses. The SOS Kinderdorf in Bambous is quite new and started their operations back in 2003, with an official inauguration in May 2005. Actually, I'm really happy about this event and I am looking forward to IOS next community activity. • After upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04 Ubuntu doesn't load the splash screen anymore

  I have the problem that Ubuntu doesn't load the splash screen anymore (after upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04). After the Grub-bootloader, it takes a few seconds to load and then the monitor turns black. I already tried to boot from a Ubuntu Live CD, but the result was the same error. Furthermore I tried to start the protected mode, but it freezes just after showing me menu. Do you have any solutions for this? And is it possible to switch from Grub to the Ubuntu console?

• Ubuntu 12.10 TexLive 2012: Latex file would not compile

  I wrote a long report with chapters using TexLiVE 2009. When I move to 12.10, the system had upgraded to Texlive 2012. However, I found that some fonts were not working, whereas they were a part of the distribution (Texlive). Therefore, I uninstalled the whole thing (TexLive) and then reinstalled. Compilation command pdflatex myreport.tex I now have the following error while compiling: This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.4-1.40.13 (TeX Live 2012/Debian) \write18 enabled kpathsea: Running mktexfmt pdflatex.fmt I can't find the format file 'pdflatex.fmt'! How do I solve this issue?

• Lost the config of my monitor once I connected it to a KVM switch.

  I used to have a monitor (Acer 20", AL2017) connected to the external video port of my laptop. Everything was great and I could get a rather high resolution available when setting it under Ubuntu (all versions). But since I connected it to a KVM, the monitor is no more recognized, and I cannot go beyond 1024x768. My video adapter is an Intel chipset 9xx from an older Pentium Core 2 Duo laptop. The same monitor, using another video chipset (Intel 82G33/G31 rev 02) is properly detected through the switch box. Looks to me like the video chipset is not the best, and I can live with this. I see that I have no xorg.conf, and I understand that I would need to generate one so I can then use it to force the available modes on the X system. How can I generate the xorg.conf file for my Intel video chip, so I can use it then ? Merci :-)

  Currently I am working with a small web development company. We use jQuery on front-end, Coldfusion for back-end and MySQL as our database. We just started to use HTML5 and CSS3. This is my first internship and job. I know the basics of Python and want to add Django or Ruby on Rails on my skills set. In addition, I want to advance my programming skills with Machine Learning, Compilers, NoSQL and Unix Hacking. I also find front end web development pretty interesting. Should I focus on front-end and become skilled on HTML5/CSS3/Javascript? Or dive into back-end learning ColdFusion. I will probably leave the company after a year since I want to work with great product start-ups. And I live in India, where ColdFusion is not popular. Will learning ColdFusion help me become better programmer?

Why I ask is that currently I have two main Masterpages, one is the home page and the other one is every other page, they both have the same metadata that’s just a generic description and set of key words about my site. The problem with that is search engines are only picking up my home page and my own search engine displays the same title and description for all results. • Can't boot after power failure - 14.04 - GRUB even doesn't showup

  Packages were updating when somehow the power failed (battery fully charged and power got disconnected). Now it won't boot. It doesn't even get as far as GRUB. The bios says it can't boot and press any key to retry. Fortunately all data is backed up and I can boot a live SD. Now what do I do? Model: Dell Latitude D630 Dual-boots with Windows 7, but since GRUB doesn't show up that's not bootable either. Thanks in advance for any help!

• Can't see my partitions after grub recovery

  I stupidly inserted the windows CD into my dual boot Ubuntu 11.10 / windows xp system. I just wanted to see if I could install windows on my external usb HD, but didn't actually go ahead with the install. It seems like the windows CD messed up my MBR and I had to use boot-repair and the ubuntu 11.10 live CD to gain access to ubuntu again. It seems to boot up a little differently (slower) but works. However, I now cant see any of my partitions in nautilus (there are 3). When I open gparted, it just shows my whole hard drive as unallocated (I know it has a windows partition that works and my ubuntu partition that I am using now). • Migrate 12.04 Wubi install to new partition with corrupted win7 install and small hard drive

  The move from Win7 to Ubuntu 12.04 has been honestly awesome. But I've come into a snag because my Win7 inevitably broke. I can still boot into Ubuntu even though Win7 is broken (won't boot, can't repair). I'd like to Migrate Wubi to a real partition and forget about windows. Presumably under normal conditions I would run the Ubuntu live CD, create a new partition then log back into my Wubi install and migrate using the script to the new partition. But I'm worried if I do that I'll break my current wubi set-up and be unable to migrate. I have a small hard drive, only 75GB and unfortunately my backup drive recently died so can't migrate there first and transfer over either. Does anybody have any suggestions to solve this?
