  • Silverlight 4 minor update&ndash;June 2010

    Today we released a service update for Silverlight 4. This is a minor release that addresses some items found immediately after release that have now completed our test passes with those who reported them. Most of the items found wont affect all users, but media developers will want to get this update for their applications and encourage their users to upgrade. This update (4.0.50524.0) addresses a few media-related items found by some of our media customers.   • UIPageControl bug: showing one bullet first and then showing everything

    I have some strange behavior using a UIPageControl: First it appears showing only one bullet, then when I move the scroll view all the bullets appear correctly. Is there something I'm missing before I add it as a subview?     I am sending push notification on device which has iOS 5.0.1, but notification is not received on iOS5 device. If i try to send notification on iOS4.3.3 device, it received on this device.   • Setting custom UITableViewCells height

    I am using a custum UITableViewCell which has some labels, buttons and imageviews to be displayed. There is one label in the cell whose text is a NSString object and the length of string could be variable. Due to this, I cannot set a constant height to the cell in the UITableViews: heightForCellAtIndex method. The cell's height depends on the labels height which can be determined using the NSStrings sizeWithFont method. I tried using it, but it looks like I'm going wrong somewhere. How can it be fixed?   • Apache doesn't immediately notice a change in the document root

    We use capistrano for website deployments and our Apache document root is a symlink to a particular code release. The deployment procedure switches the symlink from the old release to the new release as the final step of the deployment. We are migrating our webservers from real servers running RHEL 5.6 to Amazon EC2 virtual machines running Ubuntu 11.10 and the new servers are suffering from a problem where Apache doesn't immediately notice the change to it's document root when the symlink is switched. It can take a second or so (and I think I've even seen it take a couple of minutes). It's kind of like Apache has cached the physical path of the symlink for some time. Does anyone know some Apache settings I could look at to get it to "scan" for changes to it's served files quicker. Thoughts: I read that the disks on virtual machines are much slower (since they are network attached storage). Perhaps the filesystem cache somehow works differently too? If so, is there anything that can be done? The website runs PHP code. Perhaps there is some PHP config differences between RHEL and Ubuntu? I checked realpath_cache_ttl but both servers have it commented out: e.g. ; Duration of time, in seconds for which to cache realpath information for a given ; file or directory. For systems with rarely changing files, consider increasing this ; value. ; http://www.php.net/manual/en/ini.core.php#ini.realpath-cache-ttl ;realpath_cache_ttl = 120 We do use the APC opcode cache but don't think it's the issue due to experimentation. The PHP code is in different file paths for each deployment and we ensure stat=1. Here is a similar question that is very interesting: 294107 - but doesn't provide an answer for me. One solution would be to reload Apache everytime we modify the document root symlink. I'll do this if we can't find another solution.

  • Ubuntu : apt-get command error

    I work with Ubuntu 10.04 everyday. Several days ago, when I release command sudo apt-get install .... it run very good, no error. I also able to open websites with my browser with no proxy. But, today, I got error. Every time I release the command, the connection redirected to an IP in my local network. I can see it in the terminal window. Several days ago I tried to connect to the internet throught the IP, by SSH tunneling. But I forget what I have done and there is no way home.   • Script to unstick VNC keys?

    I've run into dropped key events when connecting via VNC clients, leading to a "stuck key" (usually a meta key like CTRL or ALT) and searching around the common answer on how to solve it is often "press and release each meta key individually until the problem resolves". However, I've found this to be annoying and time consuming to try and solve it this way. Plus on a bad connection, it sometimes will miss the "key up" event for the meta key again, and still keep the key stuck. So I'm looking for an automated way to do this: From a script on the client side or the server side, is there a way to trigger "key up" events for all the meta keys (CTRL, ALT, SHIFT, and WIN/CMD, both Left and Right versions)? Or just a command to release all keys the server thinks are down at the moment? Or some scripted way to at least list which keys the server end thinks are down so I know which key to keep pressing and releasing to try and release it? I've got a Mac on the server end, so a Mac/Linux solution would be needed for my situation.

  • X.org - mouse gets stuck on press

    I'm using Arch Linux. Very often, when I click on something, the OS thing sees the mouse press but not the release. If it was a link or file I clicked, moving the cursor would drag it too. Hammering the same mouse button again gives no effect. Usually, if I tap the touchpad (ALPS), the system finally sees both press and release of that, and I can continue working. (This might be because it uses a different driver - synaptics instead of evdev.) As you can imagine, this is quite annoying even for someone who spends 70% of his life in front of a terminal app. This is not a mouse issue - I'm on a laptop, and this affects both the Trackpoint thing and an external USB mouse. This is not a DE or window manager issue - I have used GNOME (with Metacity, Compiz and Xfwm4), Xfce (with Metacity and Xfwm4), mwm, twm, awesome, and wmii. Doesn't seem to be a hardware thing - after rebooting into Windows XP, everything works fine. hal is used for the auto-configuration of devices (as I have to disconnect the USB mouse often), so Xorg.conf really has nothing of relevance. Xorg -version shows: X.Org X Server 1.6.3.901 (1.6.4 RC 1) Release Date: 2009-8-25 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 If it changes anything, the laptop is stone-age Dell Latitude C840. I kinda suspect either hal or the evdev thing to cause it, but I really have no ideas on what to check further. In other words, HALP!#$ This thing is driving me nuts.

  • Whats the best way to update Ubuntu 9.04?

    I have a Ubuntu 9.04 server which has no packase support anymore. Unfortunately I dont have this package installed and I am unable to install it because of the lack of package sources. EDIT: Installing the package update-manager-core from another release doesn't work because it depends on a higher version of python-apt. (Tried with 10.04) $ dpkg -i update-manager-core_0.134.7_amd64.deb Selecting previously deselected package update-manager-core. (Reading database ... 28743 files and directories currently installed.)     I am using username secret to add users with encrypted passwords to our switches and firewall. I have been battling with the same switches and firewall for a couple of hours trying to get securely generated hard passwords for all admins. Sometimes, the passwords would go into config, but wouldn't work for login. According to the documentation for enable secret a password must not begin with a number and ? has to be entered as Ctrl-V then ? to escape it. I followed that and still got passwords I could not use sometimes. There was no error when I ran username, but the password would be rejected on login by some, but not all of the switches. They are all WS-C2960-48PST-L. The passwords it didn't like contained back ticks "`" (that character under tilde ~ under Esc). The "misbehaving" switches are running: Cisco IOS Software, C2960 Software (C2960-LANBASEK9-M), Version 12.2(50)SE5, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1) The "working" switches are running: Cisco IOS Software, C2960 Software (C2960-LANBASEK9-M), Version 12.2(46)SE, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2). The "misbehaving" switches are running a newer IOS, so this suggests a regression introduced somewhere between 12.2(46)SE and 12.2(50)SE5. I was unable to find any evidence of this being intentional in the release notes for 12.2(50)SE.   • Host name change breaking http? Fedora

    OK so I have been messing around on my development server. It has been a while since I have had my head in linux and I suspect I have broken something. I have SSH running and that is working fine. I also have HTTP and I had FTP running also. Earlier today I decided I wanted to rename the machine so I updated the /etc/hosts file and /etc/sysconfig/network. I also changed the server name in the httpd.conf. I rebooted the machine and reconnected to SSH fine. Later I was messing around with the FTP service (trying to tighten up the user security) and when i tried to connect remotely to FTP no joy, it said cannot connect. I thought that was weird but had planned to remove ftp as we will be using github so removed ftp and moved on. Then I tried to connect to the website but major fail. even connecting to the IP address is failing. I used lynx to connect to the localhost and there was my site so something going on at server level. I thought maybe something up with iptables but I have not changed them but tried adding http but still no joy. Most of what I've found is for Cygwin anyway, and I'm on CentOS 4.9. Like I said, the ./configure went through perfectly fine with no errors, so there's nothing there that I can see. EDIT I've got a little further. Now I just need to upgrade G++ to version 4 (or higher). I tried yum update gcc but no luck, so I tried yum install gcc44, which resulted in no luck either. Has anyone got any ideas as to how I can update G++?

    I am trying to build an rpm using the rpmbuild tool. I have source code which build binaries around 30 GB. This software for which I am making the rpm has dozens of executables. When I copy only the binaries of a single executable (Eg. init) my rpm builds successfully. But when I dump the entire build to the rpm, rpmbuild does everything but gives a seg fault in the end. But when I try to copy the entire build, I get a seg fault. I get the seg fault after rpmbuild has executed these sections: %prep %build %install rpmbuild also processes my source file. Checking for unpackaged file(s):/ usr/lib/rpm/check-files /root/mywget/BUILDROOT Checking for unpackaged file(s):/ usr/lib/rpm/check-files /root/mywget/BUILDROOT Segmentation fault Any clue what wrong is going on or where does rpmbuild fails?
