  • General Question About WPF Control Behavior and using Invoke

    - by Phil Sandler
I have been putting off activity on SO because my current reputation is "1337". :) This is a question of "why" and not "how". By default, it seems that WPF does not set focus to the first control in a window when it's opening. In addition, when a textbox gets focus, by default it does not have it's existing text selected. So basically when I open a window, I want focus on the first control of the window, and if that control is a textbox, I want it's existing text (if any) to be selected. I found some tips online to accomplish each of these behaviors, and combined them. The code below, which I placed in the constructor of my window, is what I came up with: Loaded += (sender, e) => { MoveFocus(new TraversalRequest(FocusNavigationDirection.Next)); var textBox = FocusManager.GetFocusedElement(this) as TextBox; if (textBox != null) { Action select = textBox.SelectAll; //for some reason this doesn't work without using invoke. Dispatcher.Invoke(DispatcherPriority.Loaded, select); } }; So, my question. Why does the above not work without using Dispatcher.Invoke? Is something built into the behavior of the window (or textbox) cause the selected text to be de-selected post-loading? Maybe related, maybe not--another example of where I had to use Dispatcher.Invoke to control the behavior of a form: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2602979/wpf-focus-in-tab-control-content-when-new-tab-is-created

  • jQuery animate() - multiple selectors and variables, a unique animate() call

    - by ozke
Hi guys, I am resizing several divs in a loop with animate() in jQuery. At the same time I am moving (left property, no resizing at all) the div where they are contained. Problem is, despite they have same duration the resize animate calls finish before the move call. They are out of sync. Is there any way of creating a list of selectors and its properties and then run a unique animate() call? Or, is there any alternative to make multiple animations happen at the same time? I've seen there's a property called step that happens every time animate loop happens but, again, each animate() call has it's own step call. Thanks in advance :)

  • How do I dynamically create a document for download in Javascript?

    - by Nelson
I'm writing some Javascript code that generates an XML document in the client (via Google Earth plugin). I'd like the user to be able to click a button on the page and be prompted to save that XML to a new file. If I were generating the XML server-side this would be easy, just make the button open the link. But the XML is generated client-side. I've come up with a couple of hacks that half-work, inspired in part by this StackOverflow question. But neither completely work. Here's a demo HTML with embedded code: <html><head><script> function getData() { return '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><doc>Hello</doc>'; } function dlDataURI() { window.open("data:text/xml;charset=utf-8," + getData()); } function dlWindow() { var w = window.open(); w.document.open(); w.document.write(getData()); w.document.close(); } </script><body> <div onclick="dlDataURI()">Click for Data URL</div> <div onclick="dlWindow()">Click for Window</div> </body></html> The dlDataURI() version works great in Firefox, poorly in Chrome (can't save), and not at all in IE. The Window() version works OK in Firefox and IE, and not well in Chrome (can't save, XML embedded inside HTML). Neither version ever prompts a user download, it always opens a new window trying to display the XML. Is there a good way to do what I want in client side Javascript? I'd like this to work in today's browsers, ideally Firefox, MSIE 8, and Chrome.

  • WPF Application that only has a tray icon

    - by Michael Stum
I am a total WPF newbie and wonder if anyone could give me some pointers how to write an application that starts minimized to tray. The idea is that it periodically fetches an RSS Feed and creates a Toaster-Popup when there are new feeds. The Application should still have a Main Window (essentially just a list containing all feed entries), but that should be hidden by default. I have started reading about XAML and WPF and I know that the StartupUri in the App.xaml has to point to my main window, but I have no idea what the proper way is to do the SysTray icon and hide the main window (this also means that when the user minimizes the window, it should minimize to tray, not to taskbar). Any hints?

  • TabBarController rotation problem with popViewControllerAnimated and selectedIndex

    - by rjobidon
Hi! This is a very important auto rotate issue and easy to reproduce. My application has a UITabBarController. Each tab is a UINavigationController. Auto rotation is handled with normal calls to shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation and didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation. The interface rotates normally until I call UIViewController.popViewControllerAnimated and change UITabBarController.selectedIndex. Steps to reproduce: Create a demo Tab Bar Application. Add the following code to the App Delegate .h file: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface TestRotation2AppDelegate : NSObject { UIWindow *window; UITabBarController *tabBarController; } @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWindow *window; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITabBarController *tabBarController; (void)doAction; @end // Redefine the interface to cach rotation messages @interface UITabBarController (TestRotation1AppDelegate) @end Add the following code to the App Delegate .m file: #import "TestRotation2AppDelegate.h" @implementation TestRotation2AppDelegate @synthesize window; @synthesize tabBarController; - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { [window addSubview:tabBarController.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { return YES; } - (void)dealloc { [tabBarController release]; [window release]; [super dealloc]; } @end @implementation UITabBarController (TestRotation1AppDelegate) - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Add a third tab and push a view UIViewController *view1 = [[UIViewController alloc] init]; view1.title = @"Third"; UINavigationController *nav = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:view1]; NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [array addObjectsFromArray:self.viewControllers]; [array addObject:nav]; self.viewControllers = array; // Push view2 inside the third tab UIViewController *view2 = [[UIViewController alloc] init]; [nav pushViewController:view2 animated:YES]; // Create a button to pop view2 UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect]; button.frame = CGRectMake(50, 50, 220, 38); [button setTitle:@"Pop this view" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [button addTarget:self action:@selector(doAction) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [view2.view addSubview:button]; } - (void) doAction { // ROTATION PROBLEM BEGINS HERE // Remove one line of code and the problem doesn't occur. [self.selectedViewController popViewControllerAnimated:YES]; self.selectedIndex = 0; } - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { return YES; } @end The interface auto rotates normally until you tap the button on tab #3. Your help will be geatly appreciated!

  • Custom NSView in NSMenuItem not receiving mouse events

    - by Dennis
I have an NSMenu popping out of an NSStatusItem using popUpStatusItemMenu. These NSMenuItems show a bunch of different links, and each one is connected with setAction: to the openLink: method of a target. This arrangement has been working fine for a long time. The user chooses a link from the menu and the openLink: method then deals with it. Unfortunately, I recently decided to experiment with using NSMenuItem's setView: method to provide a nicer/slicker interface. Basically, I just stopped setting the title, created the NSMenuItem, and then used setView: to display a custom view. This works perfectly, the menu items look great and my custom view is displayed. However, when the user chooses a menu item and releases the mouse, the action no longer works (i.e., openLink: isn't called). If I just simply comment out the setView: call, then the actions work again (of course, the menu items are blank, but the action is executed properly). My first question, then, is why setting a view breaks the NSMenuItem's action. No problem, I thought, I'll fix it by detecting the mouseUp event in my custom view and calling my action method from there. I added this method to my custom view: - (void)mouseUp:(NSEvent *)theEvent { NSLog(@"in mouseUp"); } No dice! This method is never called. I can set tracking rects and receive mouseEntered: events, though. I put a few tests in my mouseEntered routine, as follows: if ([[self window] ignoresMouseEvents]) { NSLog(@"ignoring mouse events"); } else { NSLog(@"not ignoring mouse events"); } if ([[self window] canBecomeKeyWindow]) { dNSLog((@"canBecomeKeyWindow")); } else { NSLog(@"not canBecomeKeyWindow"); } if ([[self window] isKeyWindow]) { dNSLog((@"isKeyWindow")); } else { NSLog(@"not isKeyWindow"); } And got the following responses: not ignoring mouse events canBecomeKeyWindow not isKeyWindow Is this the problem? "not isKeyWindow"? Presumably this isn't good because Apple's docs say "If the user clicks a view that isn’t in the key window, by default the window is brought forward and made key, but the mouse event is not dispatched." But there must be a way do detect these events. HOW? Adding: [[self window] makeKeyWindow]; has no effect, despite the fact that canBecomeKeyWindow is YES.

  • jtabbedpane different sized tabs

    - by Eric
hi, im making a search function for a database that uses a jtabbedpane with one tab for a quick search, and one for an advanced search. the advanced search has quite a few more fields, so it needs to be larger, but i dont want the whole window to always be at the largest size for aesthetic reasons. i have added a change listener to the pane, and tried resizing the pane based on which tab it is, and the code executes when the tab is clicked, but does nothing. ive tried using tabbedSearchPane.setSize() followed by tabbedSearchPane.validate(), as well as resizing components around it using setSize+validate, and nothing seems to do anything. i really just need to know how to ACTUALLY change the size of a jtabbedpane.

  • PyGTK: dynamic label wrapping

    - by detly
It's a known bug/issue that a label in GTK will not dynamically resize when the parent changes. It's one of those really annoying small details, and I want to hack around it if possible. I followed the approach at 16 software, but as per the disclaimer you cannot then resize it smaller. So I attempted a trick mentioned in one of the comments (the set_size_request call in the signal callback), but this results in some sort of infinite loop (try it and see). Does anyone have any other ideas? (You can't block the signal just for the duration of the call, since as the print statements seem to indicate, the problem starts after the function is left.) The code is below. You can see what I mean if you run it and try to resize the window larger and then smaller. (If you want to see the original problem, comment out the line after "Connect to the size-allocate signal", run it, and resize the window bigger.) The Glade file ("example.glade"): <?xml version="1.0"?> <glade-interface> <!-- interface-requires gtk+ 2.16 --> <!-- interface-naming-policy project-wide --> <widget class="GtkWindow" id="window1"> <property name="visible">True</property> <signal name="destroy" handler="on_destroy"/> <child> <widget class="GtkLabel" id="label1"> <property name="visible">True</property> <property name="label" translatable="yes">In publishing and graphic design, lorem ipsum[p][1][2] is the name given to commonly used placeholder text (filler text) to demonstrate the graphic elements of a document or visual presentation, such as font, typography, and layout. The lorem ipsum text, which is typically a nonsensical list of semi-Latin words, is a hacked version of a Latin text by Cicero, with words/letters omitted and others inserted, but not proper Latin[1][2] (see below: History and discovery). The closest English translation would be "pain itself" (dolorem = pain, grief, misery, suffering; ipsum = itself).</property> <property name="wrap">True</property> </widget> </child> </widget> </glade-interface> The Python code: #!/usr/bin/python import pygtk import gobject import gtk.glade def wrapped_label_hack(gtklabel, allocation): print "In wrapped_label_hack" gtklabel.set_size_request(allocation.width, -1) # If you uncomment this, we get INFINITE LOOPING! # gtklabel.set_size_request(-1, -1) print "Leaving wrapped_label_hack" class ExampleGTK: def __init__(self, filename): self.tree = gtk.glade.XML(filename, "window1", "Example") self.id = "window1" self.tree.signal_autoconnect(self) # Connect to the size-allocate signal self.get_widget("label1").connect("size-allocate", wrapped_label_hack) def on_destroy(self, widget): self.close() def get_widget(self, id): return self.tree.get_widget(id) def close(self): window = self.get_widget(self.id) if window is not None: window.destroy() gtk.main_quit() if __name__ == "__main__": window = ExampleGTK("example.glade") gtk.main()

  • How can I detect message boxes popping up in another process?

    - by Frerich Raabe
I'd like to execute some code whenever a (any!) message box (as spawned by the MessageBox Function) is shown in another process. I didn't start the process I'm monitoring. I can think of three approaches: Install a global CBT Hook procedure which tells me whenever a window is created on the desktop. Then, check whether the window belongs to the process I'm monitoring and whether the class name is #32770 (which is the class name of dialogs according to the About Window Classes page at the MSDN). This would probably work, but it would pull the DLL which contains the hook procedure into virtually every process on the desktop, and the hook procedure gets called a lot. It smells like a potential perfomance problem. Try to subclass the #32770 system window class (is this possible at all?) and look for WM_CREATE messages in my custom window procedure. Intercept the MessageBox Function API call (even though the remote process is running already!) and call my code from the hook function. So far, I only know that the first idea is feasible, but it seems really inefficient. Can anybody think of a simpler solution than that to this problem?

  • WPF - How to properly reference a class from XAML

    - by Andy T
OK, this is a super super noob question, one that I'm almost embarrassed to ask... I want to reference a class in my XAML file. It's a DataTemplateSelector for selecting the right edit template for a DataGrid column. Anyway, I've written the class into my code behind, added the local namespace to the top of top of the XAML, but when I try to reference the class from the XAML, it tells me the class does not exist in the local namespace. I must be missing something really really simple but I just can't understand it... Here's my code. XAML: <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:tk="http://schemas.microsoft.com/wpf/2008/toolkit" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:CustomFields" xmlns:col="clr-namespace:System.Collections;assembly=mscorlib" xmlns:sys="clr-namespace:System;assembly=mscorlib" x:Class="CustomFields.MainWindow" x:Name="Window" Title="Define Custom Fields" Width="425" Height="400" MinWidth="425" MinHeight="400"> <Window.Resources> <ResourceDictionary> <local:RangeValuesEditTemplateSelector> blah blah blah... </local:RangeValuesEditTemplateSelector> </ResourceDictionary> </Window.Resources> C#: namespace CustomFields { /// /// Interaction logic for MainWindow.xaml /// public partial class MainWindow : Window { public MainWindow() { this.InitializeComponent(); // Insert code required on object creation below this point. } } public class RangeValuesEditTemplateSelector : DataTemplateSelector { public RangeValuesEditTemplateSelector(){ MessageBox.Show("hello"); } } } Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I thought this should be simple as 1-2-3... Thanks! AT

  • WPF element binding across seperate windows-how to do?

    - by jack123
I can do element-to-element binding in WPF: For example, I've got a window that has a slider control and a textbox, and the textbox dynamically displays the Value property of the slider as the user moves the slider. But how do i do this across seperate windows (in the same project, same namespace) ? The reason is that my main application window containing the textbox has a menu option that will open an 'options' window containing the slider control. Thanks.

  • Multiple View App shows Blank Screen in Simulator

    - by Brett Coburn
Hello; I am developing a simple app that first shows a menu screen, and when a button is pressed, a game screen appears. I was able to develop the game screen without any issues, but when I changed the code to first display the menu, the simulator showed a blank screen. I've read all the articles on connecting views with IB but I can't figure this out. Any help would be appreciated. • Java GUI Overlay

Hey, I want to make an little window like the sort of thing used by Teamspeak/Ventrillo or Steam/xFire where a window can be shown while still in a fullscreen game using Java. There was a similar question/answer ("How to create an overlay window in Java?") but that doesn't work for the particular game (EVE) whereas the previously mentioned overlays work just fine. What's the missing element? Or is it an entirely different method?

  • "Alert" and "if" changes behaviour of dom copying from iframe to div

    - by lowkey
Hi guys! Tried to make a little old school ajax (iframe-javascript) script. A bit of mootools is used for DOM navigation Description: HTML: 1 iframe called "buffer" 1 div called "display" JAVASCRIPT: (short: copy iframe content into a div on the page) 1) onLoad on iframe triggers handler(), a counter makes sure it only run once (this is because otherwise firefox will go into feedback loop. What i think happens: iframe on load handler() copyBuffer change src of iframe , and firefox takes that as an onload again) 2) copybuffer() is called, it sets src of iframe then copies iframe content into div, then erases iframe content THE CODE: count=0; function handler(){ if (count==0){ copyBuffer(); count++; } } function copyBuffer(){ $('buffer').set('src','http://www.somelink.com/'); if (window.frames['buffer'] && $('display') ) { $('display').innerHTML = window.frames['buffer'].document.body.innerHTML; window.frames['buffer'].document.body.innerHTML=""; } } problems: QUESTION 1) nothing happens, the content is not loaded into the div. But if i either: A) remove the counter and let the script run in a feedback loop: the content is suddenly copied into the div, but off course there is a feedback loop going on, you can see it keeps loading in the status bar. OR B) insert an alert in the copyBuffer function. The content is copied, without the feedback loop. why does this happen? QUESTION 2) The If wrapped around the copying code i got from a source on the internet. I am not sure what it does? If i remove it the code does not work in: Safari and Chrome. Many thanks in advance! UPDATE: Like the answers said i have created an event handler. They used jQuery, i have made one in mootools: window.addEvent('domready', function() { $('buffer').addEvent('load', function(){ $('display').set('html',window.frames['buffer'].document.body.innerHTML) window.frames['buffer'].document.body.innerHTML=""; }).set('src','somelink'); }); Bonus question: 3) Im new at stackoverflow (what an amazing place!), is it better if i make new threads for follow up questions?

  • How to i disable the _moz_resizing?

    - by Shripad K
I am using nicEdit editor and i have added my own custom image resizing script to it. But i want to disable the default _moz_resizing that appears in firefox. I wanted to have finer control over the image being resized. ( Eg: Allow only the image to resize and inherit the width of the parent container. ) So i wrote a custom script. But since firefox has its own image resizing control (_moz_resizing) how do i disable it? If there is no way to do so, i have a very simple workaround where i browser detect firefox and turn off my custom script and use the _moz_resizing instead. But i won't have fine grained control and will have to rely on there being now browser bugs in firefox. :(

  • Design-time failure: WPF, Usercontrols and Namespaces

    - by Simon Woods
    Hi I have a very simple WPF project comprising a Window and Usercontrol. I'm very much in a learning phase. It works fine when I run it. However, I am unable to see the form in design time. The problem, I believe is something to do with namespaces, but I don't understand where. It may well be a simple error Main Window XML <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" xmlns:views="clr-namespace:UserLogin" x:Class="UserLogin.MainView" x:Name="MainViewWindow" mc:Ignorable="d" Title="Login" Height="141" Width="347" > <Grid> <views:LoginView /> </Grid> </Window> Main Window CodeBehind Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic Imports System Imports System.Windows Imports UserLogin Namespace UserLogin Partial Public Class MainView Inherits System.Windows.Window Public Sub New() InitializeComponent() End Sub End Class End Namespace Usercontrol XAML <UserControl xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" x:Class="UserLogin.LoginView" x:Name="LoginViewControl" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignHeight="96" d:DesignWidth="298"> <Grid Height="96" Width="298"> <Button Command="{Binding OKCommand}" Height="21" Margin="0,0,90,16" Name="btnOK" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Width="76">OK</Button> <Button Command="{Binding CancelCommand}" Height="21" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Margin="0,0,9,16" Name="btnCancel" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" Width="75">Cancel</Button> <Label Height="23" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="10,5,0,0" Name="Label1" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="85">Name:</Label> <Label HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="10,32,0,0" Name="Label2" Width="85" Height="29" VerticalAlignment="Top">Password:</Label> <TextBox Margin="0,31,6,0" Name="txtPassword" Height="22" VerticalAlignment="Top" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Width="182" /> <ComboBox Height="22" Margin="110,6,6,0" Name="cboNames" VerticalAlignment="Top" /> </Grid> </UserControl> Usercontrol CodeBehind Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic Imports System Imports UserLogin Namespace UserLogin Partial Public Class LoginView Inherits System.Windows.Controls.UserControl Public Sub New() InitializeComponent() End Sub End Class End Namespace I think I'm missing something this namespace xmlns:views="clr-namespace:UserLogin" since intellisense doesn't give me the usercontrol declared within it in the XAML designer but rather reports the error "Unable to load the metadata for the assembly ... etc etc" Thx for any suggestions Simon

  • Ad Server does not serve ads in Firefox, but works fine in Chrome, IE, & Safari!?

    - by HipHop-opatamus
I'm having a strange (likely JavaScript) related issue. I'm running Open X Ad Server ( http://www.openx.org ) which serves ads to the website http://upsidedowndogs.com . The ads load fine every time when visiting the site via Chrome, IE, or Safari, but sometimes don't load at all in FireFox - Hence, it is a client side issue, which leads me to believe its something up with the javascript. The fact that the problem is intermittent, and does not through any error codes to FireBug, also doesn't make it any easier to diagnose and address. Any ideas how to diagnose / address this issue? Thanks! Here is the code generated by OpenX (it goes in the page header - additional code is then used in each ad unit, as seen on the page) if (typeof(OA_zones) != 'undefined') { var OA_zoneids = ''; for (var zonename in OA_zones) OA_zoneids += escape(zonename+'=' + OA_zones[zonename] + "|"); OA_zoneids += '&amp;nz=1'; } else { var OA_zoneids = escape('1|2|3|4'); } if (typeof(OA_source) == 'undefined') { OA_source = ''; } var OA_p=location.protocol=='https:'?'https://ads.offleashmedia.com/server/www/delivery/spc.php':'http://ads.offleashmedia.com/server/www/delivery/spc.php'; var OA_r=Math.floor(Math.random()*99999999); OA_output = new Array(); var OA_spc="<"+"script type='text/javascript' "; OA_spc+="src='"+OA_p+"?zones="+OA_zoneids; OA_spc+="&amp;source="+escape(OA_source)+"&amp;r="+OA_r; OA_spc+=(document.charset ? • OpenGL coordinates question

    - by Chonch
Hey, I have a simple OpenGL drawing. When the user changes the window's size, I want the drawing to maintain it's aspect ration. I accomplished that by setting the glViewport to the maximum rectangle with the appropriate aspect ration whenever the reshape method is called. My problem is that I want to draw a square that will always remain in the top right corner of the window, no matter what the size or shape of the window is. Right now, that square moves around the screen whenever the window is reshaped. Can anyone please explain how to do this? Thank you,

    I'm putting together the basic layout for a contacts book, and I want to know how I can make the 3 test buttons span from edge to edge just as the arrow buttons do. private static class ButtonHandler implements ActionListener { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { System.out.println("Code Placeholder"); } } public static void main(String[] args) { //down button ImageIcon downArrow = new ImageIcon("down.png"); JButton downButton = new JButton(downArrow); ButtonHandler downListener = new ButtonHandler(); downButton.addActionListener(downListener); //up button ImageIcon upArrow = new ImageIcon("up.png"); JButton upButton = new JButton(upArrow); ButtonHandler upListener = new ButtonHandler(); upButton.addActionListener(upListener); //contacts JButton test1Button = new JButton("Code Placeholder"); JButton test2Button = new JButton("Code Placeholder"); JButton test3Button = new JButton("Code Placeholder"); Box box = Box.createVerticalBox(); box.add(test1Button); box.add(test2Button); box.add(test3Button); JPanel content = new JPanel(); content.setLayout(new BorderLayout()); content.add(box, BorderLayout.CENTER); content.add(downButton, BorderLayout.SOUTH); content.add(upButton, BorderLayout.NORTH); JFrame window = new JFrame("Contacts"); window.setContentPane(content); window.setSize(400, 600); window.setLocation(100, 100); window.setVisible(true); }
