• Best way to store list of numbers and to retrieve them

  Hi. What is the best way to store a list of random numbers (like lotto/bingo numbers) and retrieve them? I'd like to store on a Database a number of rows, where each row contains 5-10 numbers ranging from 0 to 90. I will store a big number of those rows. What I'd like to be able is to retrieve the rows that have at least X number in common to a newly generated row. Example: [3,4,33,67,85,99] [55,56,77,89,98,99] [3,4,23,47,85,91] Those are on the DB I will generate this: [1,2,11,45,47,88] and now I want to get the rows that have at least 1 number in common with this one. The easiest (and dumbest?) way is to make 6 select and check for similar results. I thought to store numbers with a large binary string like 000000000000000000000100000000010010110000000000000000000000000 with 99 numbers where each number represent a number from 1 to 99, so if I have 1 at the 44th position, it means that I have 44 on that row. This method is probably shifting the difficult tasks to the Db but it's again not very smart. Any suggestion?

• MySQL: order by and limit gives wrong result

  MySQL ver 5.1.26 I'm getting the wrong result with a select that has where, order by and limit clauses. It's only a problem when the order by uses the id column. I saw the MySQL manual for LIMIT Optimization My guess from reading the manual is that there is some problem with the index on the primary key, id. But I don't know where I should go from here... Question: what should I do to best solve the problem?   I have created a solution which read a large csv file currently 20-30 mb in size, I have tried to delete the duplicate rows based on certain column values that the user chooses at run time using the usual technique of finding duplicate rows but its so slow that it seems the program is not working at all. • Set the selected item for a combobox in a datagrid

  I am using a datagrid which has many combobox fields in it, when I click the datagrid combobox the selected item or highlighted value is the last item in the list, but I would like it to highlight the first(top) item in the list. I know for just a combobox, all I need to do is change the combobox.selecteditem or combobox.selectedindex, but I'm not sure what to do in this case. I have binded the combobox to a table in the database and used a datatable to store the combobox values and then I add a row to the datatable, I think the reason the last item in the combobox is highlighted is because I added a row to the datatable. • ploting 3d graph in matlab?

  Hello, I am currently a begineer, and i am using matlab to do a data analysis. I have a a text file with data at the first row is formatted as follow: time;wave height 1;wave height 2;....... I have column until wave height 19 and rows total 4000 rows. Data in the first column is time in second. From 2nd column onwards, it is wave height elevation which is in meter. At the moment I like to ask matlab to plot a 3d graph with time on the x axis, wave elevation on the y axis, and wave elevation that correspond to wave height number from 1 to 19, i.e. data in column 2 row 10 has a let say 8m which is correspond to wave height 1 and time at the column 1 row 10. I have try the following: clear; filename='abc.daf'; path='C:\D'; a=dlmread([path '\' filename],' ', 2, 1); [nrows,ncols]=size(a); t=a(1:nrows,1);%define t from text file for i=(1:20), j=(2:21); end wi=a(:,j); for k=(2:4000), l=k; end r=a(l,:); But everytime i use try to plot them, the for loop wi works fine, but for r=a(l,:);, the plot only either give me the last time data only but i want all data in the file to be plot.   So i had a feature request to add fields to a second table row for a single data row on a GridView. At first, I looked at extending the functionality of the GridView but soon realized this would be a huge task and since I consider this request a shim for a larger future feature decided against it. Also want to move to MVC in the near future and this would be throw away code.   I have an array of checkboxes that I edit at once to set up a 'tinyint' field. the problem comes in when i uncheck the checkbox and post the vales to mysql. since it posts an array of checkboxes and another parallel array of values to edit, unchecking a checkbox results in the 0 value been ignored by PHP_POST and hence the checkbox array will be less by the number of unchecked values in the form while the array to be edited will have all the records in the form. here is the submit code while($row=mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $checked = ($row[active]==1) ? • question about MySQL database migration

  Hi there: If I have a MySQL database with several tables on a live server, now I would like to migrate this database to another server. Of course, the migration I mean here involves some database tables, for example: add some new columns to several tables, add some new tables etc.. Now, the only method I can think of is to use some php/python(two scripts I know) script, connect two databases, dump the data from the old database, and then write into the new database. However, this method is not efficient at all. For example: in old database, table A has 28 columns; in new database, table A has 29 columns, but the extra column will have default value 0 for all the old rows. My script still needs to dump the data row by row and insert each row into the new database. Is there any tools or a better method than writing a script yourself? Here, I dont need to worry about multithread writing problems etc.., I mean the old database will be down (not open to public usage etc.., only for upgrade ) for a while. Thanks!!

  I'm using JSF 1.2 with IceFaces 1.8 in a project here. I have a page which is basically a big edit grid for a whole bunch of floating-point number fields. This is implemented with inputText fields on the page pointing at a value object with primitive float types Now, as a new requirement sees some of the fields be nullable, I wanted to change the value object to use Float objects rather than primitive types. I didn't think I'd need to do anything to the page to accomodate this. However, when I make the change I get the following error: /pages/page.xhtml @79,14 value="#{row.targetValue}": java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: argument type mismatch And /pages/page.xhtml @79,14 value="#{row.targetValue}": java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: java.lang.ClassCastException@1449aa1 The page looks like this: <ice:inputText value="#{row.targetValue}" size="4"> <f:convertNumber pattern="###.#" /> </ice:inputText> I've also tried adding in <f:convert convertId="javax.faces.Float" /> in there as well but that doesn't seem to work either! Neither does changing the value object types to Double. I'm sure I'm probably missing something really simple but I've been staring at this for a while now and no answers are immediately obvious!

• Programmatically change an EditorGrid's cell value

  Hi, I have an Editor Grid where if a specific cell is in focus (is being edited), a window containing a tree panel pops up allowing the user to choose a node from the treepanel as the new value of the cell. This way, the user isn't actually editing the cell in question, but is using the window to choose the new value. However, I am having difficulties setting the value of the cell in question programmatically. • Dimension Mismatch MatLab; cant figure out why it is mismatching

For example maxval(j,:) will change depending one row it is looking through for certain values. I did this manually and I see that on the first loop the matrices are size (1,1), however, if I set the loop to run for only j=2, the row length is 13. Usually if a matrix is changing size on the loop, I only get a warning, but this time I think it is due to a reason I don't understand.

  After many hours, I finally realize that I am working correctly with the Cache object in my ASP.NET application but my stored procedures stops it from working correctly. Maybe a hint I believe that the reason why the dependency HasChanged property is related to the fact that the column Row generated from the ROW_NUMBER is only temporary and, therefore, the SQL SERVER is not able to to say whether the results are changed or not. That's why HasChanged is always set to true. Does anyone know how to paginate results from SQL SERVER without using COUNT or ROW_NUMBER functions?

  Hello I`ve been wondering this one thing about creating models. If I make for example Page model. Is it the both: It can retrieve one row from the table or all the rows. Somehow Im mixing the objects and the database. I have thought it like this: I would have to make a Page-class that would represent one row in the table. It also would have all the basic CRUD-methods. Then I would have to do a Pages-class (somekind of collection) that would retrieve rows from the table and instantiate a Page object from each row. Is this kind of weird? If someone could explain to me the idea of model throughout.. Im again confused. Maybe Im thinking the whole OOP too difficult.. And by the way this forum is great. Hopefully people will just understand my problems. Heh. I was a long time procedural style programmer and now in 3 months I have dived into OOP and MVC and PHP frameworks and I just get more excited day by day when I explore this stuff!

  I am developing a C# VS2008/SQL Server website application. I've never used the Dictionary class before, but I am trying to replace my Hashtable with a Dictionary variable. AppendDataCT is the method that calls my SQL stored proc. I want to pass in the whole row where each row has a unique set of values that I want to add to my database table. For example, if each row requires values for cells A, B, and C, then I want to pass these 3 values to AppendDataCT, where all of these values are strings. How do I do this with Dictionary?

• Google Script / Spreadsheet -- Shared permissions with Installed Trigger onEdit

  Using an installed trigger inside spreadsheet to call onUpdateBilling(). Purpose of this script is on edit, based on content of column "billed" (i.e. "d") will highlight the entire column the predetermined color. Page running script is shared with collaborators and they have been given edit access. My expectation at this point is the script should be run with owner permissions. My shared users are unable to run the script with the given error "You don't have permission for this action." Reached my limited knowledge and googlefu for this workaround. Any help to allow operation to my collaborators is appreciated. • Clean up domain list in Excel - regex / macros?

  I have a huge spreadsheet of domains that I need to clean up as follows: Remove all http:// (simple replace all - "http://" with "") Remove any www. (simple replace all - "www." with "") Delete any sub-domains (delete the actual row completely, not just the subdomain from the url) Remove anything after the domain extension (i.e. website.com/blah/blahbah/ becomes just website.com (simple replace all - "/*" with "", then replace all "/" with "") So what I'm left with is just a spreadsheet of clean domains like "website.com". I think I've got 1, 2 and 4 sorted (as above), but I'm really struggling with 3. Any ideas? Can I do this with regexp / vba, and actually delete the row completely? Sample data: http://www.scholastic.com/kids/stacks/games/ http://imgworld.teamworkonline.com/ http://topfreegraphics.com/ http://www.workcircle.co.uk/ http://www.healthycanadians.gc.ca/index-eng.php http://gsociology.icaap.org/methods/soft.html Post 1, 2 and 4 would leave me with: scholastic.com imgworld.teamworkonline.com topfreegraphics.com workcircle.co.uk healthycanadians.gc.ca gsociology.icaap.org It's those pesky sub-domains I need to just delete completely, just delete the row. I've realised I can't just search for 2 x ".", because obviously plenty of domain extensions (i.e .co.uk) include that. Any help appreciated.

• PostgreSQL, Foreign Keys, Insert speed & Django

  A few days ago, I ran into an unexpected performance problem with a pretty standard Django setup. For an upcoming feature, we have to regenerate a table hourly, containing about 100k rows of data, 9M on the disk, 10M indexes according to pgAdmin. The problem is that inserting them by whatever method literally takes ages, up to 3 minutes of 100% disk busy time. That's not something you want on a production site. It doesn't matter if the inserts were in a transaction, issued via plain insert, multi-row insert, COPY FROM or even INSERT INTO t1 SELECT * FROM t2. After noticing this isn't Django's fault, I followed a trial and error route, and hey, the problem disappeared after dropping all foreign keys! Instead of 3 minutes, the INSERT INTO SELECT FROM took less than a second to execute, which isn't too surprising for a table <= 20M on the disk. What is weird is that PostgreSQL manages to slow down inserts by 180x just by using 3 foreign keys. Oh, disk activity was pure writing, as everything is cached in RAM; only writes go to the disks. It looks like PostgreSQL is working very hard to touch every row in the referred tables, as 3MB/sec * 180s is way more data than the 20MB this new table takes on disk. No WAL for the 180s case, I was testing in psql directly, in Django, add ~50% overhead for WAL logging. Tried @commit_on_success, same slowness, I had even implemented multi row insert and COPY FROM with psycopg2. That's another weird thing, how can 10M worth of inserts generate 10x 16M log segments? Table layout: id serial primary, a bunch of int32, 3 foreign keys to small table, 198 rows, 16k on disk large table, 1.2M rows, 59 data + 89 index MB on disk large table, 2.2M rows, 198 + 210MB So, am I doomed to either drop the foreign keys manually or use the table in a very un-Django way by defining saving bla_id x3 and skip using models.ForeignKey? I'd love to hear about some magical antidote / pg setting to fix this.

• Dynamic Control loading at wrong time?

  This one is a little... odd. Basically I have a form I'm building using ASP.NET Dynamic Data, which is going to utilize several custom field templates. I've just added another field to the FormView, with it's own custom template, and the form is loading that control twice for no apparent reason. Worse yet, the first time it loads the template, the Row is not ready yet and I get the error message: {"Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control."} I'm accessing the Row variable in a LinqDataSource OnSelected event in order to get the child object... Now for the wierd part: If I reorder the fields a little, the one causing the problem no longer gets loaded twice. Any thoughts? EDIT: I've noticed that Page_Load gets called on the first load (when Row throws an exception if you try to use it) but does NOT get called the second time around. If that helps any... Right now managing it by just catching and ignoring the exception, but still a little worried that things will break if I don't find the real cause. EDIT 2: I've traced the problem to using FindControl recursively to find other controls on the page. Apparently FindControl can cause the page lifecycle events (at least up to page_load) to fire... and this occurs before that page "should" be loading so it's dynamic data "stuff" isn't ready yet.

• Background problem on UITableView

  Hi ! I have come to a problem, wich I have no idea how to solve. Can anyone think outside the box and point me to right directions? I would be very thankfull ! The problem. I have a UITableView containing a first row wich is always the same (a empty row with repeating background) Next rows are bounch of dynamic data rows. I have set the yellow background on my UITableView in IBuilder, My cells (except first row) have white background with code: UIView* backgroundView = [ [ [ UIView alloc ] initWithFrame:CGRectZero ] autorelease ]; backgroundView.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithRed: 0.96078431372549 green: 0.96078431372549 blue: 0.96078431372549 alpha: 1.0]; cell.backgroundView = backgroundView; for ( UIView* view in cell.contentView.subviews ) { view.backgroundColor = [ UIColor clearColor ]; } The example yellow background, I only want to be showed at the top. As u see img example below. The thing is I dont want to have yellow background under the last datarow, I want to contain same white color I have on the cells. This should be white as the cells.
