• [.NET] Line break in ListView work in Vista/7 but not in XP

  hi, I've got problem. I'm using ListView to show some data and I need to make two lines in one row. I've found solution to make row higher by adding ImageList with specified height and then I add Environment.NewLine to my text. It works in Vista and 7 but in XP instead of new line there are shown squares. I've been trying to add "\n" "\r\n" and ASCII char 10 but ther were still squares! After few days I still don't know what's wrong and I need your help.

• Run Python CGI Script on Windows XP

  I have a Windows XP machine that has Apache installed via a VisualSVNServer installation. I am . trying to get a simple python cgi script to run in my browser e.g. http://build.procepts.com.au:8080/hg/cgi-bin/test.cgi. However despite trying all the recommended approaches the browser only ever displays the plain text from the cgi script. Amongst many other attempted solutions I have followed the instructions contained here. My ultimate aim is to be able to use the Apache web server to serve repositories from a new Mercurial installation. Seeing as Apache is already installed from VisualSVNServer I thought I might as well make use of it. Is there some other trick to get this working?

  I've a ASP.NET MVC 2 project that runs fine under Windows 7 and will start on Windows XP if I use the Visual Studio Development Server, however, starting under IIS generates an error: Unable to start debugging on the web server With the message The specified procedure could not be found No errors in the system event viewer. If I start without debugging I get an "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error" The reason I run it under IIS is the project also includes some WCF wsHttp web services that use certificates, so the VS Development Server is not adequate for hosting those. I have already seen the links on SO that talk about adding the wildcard mapping. I've already done that, just as I've done on Windows Server 2003 where I successfully host ASP.NET MVC RC2 for quite a while.

  I recently stumbled over buildbot and wanted to give it a try. My problem is that I have to run it under Windows because we don't use Linux on workstations or servers in my company. I've already tried different installations: python 2.6, Twisted-9.0.0-py2.6, buildbot 0.7.12 python 2.6, pywin32-214-py2.6, Twisted-9.0.0-py2.6, buildbot 0.7.12 python 2.4, pywin32-214-py2.4, Twisted-9.0.0-py2.4, buildbot 0.7.12 and tried to run it in a Windows XP VM. In all installations I ran the buildbot test suite and got several errors and the buildbot documentation sais that no test should fail. Does anybody here have experience with buildbot under Windows? Is it worth the pain or do I have to use Linux?

• My C# program running as Windows Service is blocking Windows XP from hibernation

  I have Windows Service written in C#. It starts two threads, one is pooling a Web Service, second is waiting on a Monitor object for a new job to arrive. Besides that, the main thread acts as a WCF service host using NetNamedPipeBinding. It lets the client application to register a callback and then sends notifications back. The problem I have is that when this Windows Service is running, I cannot hibernate or Standby my computer which is running on Windows XP, SP3. When I set Windows to hibernate or standby, nothing happens. Then, at the moment when I go to Service Manager and stop the service, the system hibernation starts immediately. The service class extending the ServiceBase has properties like CanHandlePowerEvent, CanPauseAndContinue, etc. set to true... That didn't make any difference. The question is: what can be blocking the Hibernation/Standby from proceeding? What should I take care about to avoid it?

• Is it possible to to create a live linux iso containing a win xp virtual machine?

  I would like to have a Linux live system that contains a Windows xp virtual machine. This would be run from a bootable USB flash drive. My attempts so far have been unsuccessful. I created a Lubuntu 12.04 virtual machine with VMware. I updated and configured it to my needs, and installed Virtualbox. I then created a Windows xp vm with Virtualbox in the Lubuntu vm. I tested everything and everything worked, including USB devices. I installed Remastersys in the Lubuntu vm, copied the xp vm folder to the /etc/skel folder then created the custom iso with remastersys. I burned the iso and tested it on a laptop. It worked flawlessly. All programs and wireless networking worked. My problem was the xp vm. Virtualbox started fine but would not run the vm. I have the following error: Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005) Component: VirtualBox Interface: IVirtualBox {c28be65f-1a8f-43b4-81f1-eb60cb516e66}. I ran remastersys again changing the permissions on the skel folder to R W for everyone. I also logged into Lubuntu as root and ran remastersys again. Each iso I created worked fine but would not start the xp vm inside. The last attempt virtualbox gave me an access error stating it can not access the virtual disk. Is what I want to do possible? In theory I don't see why it would not work. Is it a permissions issue? Should I create the iso then add the xp vm after by editing the iso by hand? Using a vm and not real hardware as a build machine a problem? Any ideas? keep any responses in laymens terms. I am still a Linux novice.

• Is it possible to theme Windows 7 like XP?

  Everybody seems to mean the window frame colour and a set of desktop background pictures when they're talking about Windows 7 themes. Does anybody remember what themes used to be in Windows XP? You could actually alter the appearance of the window frame, how close buttons and menu popups looked, put a texture on the taskbar, all those funny things. Microsoft themselves have published a number of XP themes over time (Luna on XP, Royal on MCE2005, Zune later on). I don't say that most of those and the numerous third party XP themes were beautiful or even practical. But it was possible to create something nice. In Windows 7 (I suppress the existence of Windows Vista...) such a theme could well be used to increase readability to a level before Aero Glass again. I mean, you cannot really tell whether a Glass window is active or not. I've been tweaking the colours and transparency levels a lot recently but the only safe indicator is the close button: it's red when the window is active, it's colourless otherwise. Then there's the window title. It is always painted black, on however dark a background. Again, regardless of whether the window is active or not. Turning off Aero is not an option in Windows 7 anymore. Classic design looks just ugly there. It already wasn't exactly looking good on XP with the wide start menu. So, can we increase the readability of the Windows 7 UI with themes like in XP or didn't Microsoft learn a thing since the Windows 7 Preview "Vista"?

  I need to install the ffmpeg PHP extension on my localhost so I can test few of my scripts but I am having troubles figuring out how to do that. I have WampServer 2.0 with PHP 5.2.9-2, my OS is Windows XP. Please somebody give me step by step instructions. I have found some Windows builds here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffmpeg-php/files/ But I don't know which one to download and what to do with files. EDITED: What I have done so far: Download ffmpeg_new Copy php_ffmpeg.dll from the php5 folder to the C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.2.9-2\ext Copy files from common to the windows/system32 folder Add extension=php_ffmpeg.dll to php.ini file Restarted all services (Apache, PHP...) • Nexus One & Windows XP USB Driver

  I've been unable to get my Nexus One working as a development phone on Windows XP. I've got the driver (revision 3 for N1 support), I've got it installed according to the official installation guide, and the phone appears in the Device Manager just as the guide says it should. However, adb still can't find the phone. 'adb devices', for example, returns no active devices. Am I forgetting some basic step? One thing I've noticed is that the driver is labeled in Windows as version 2 released November, 2009 (I need version 3 from January 2010 for N1 support). However, I've never had version 2 installed. I've used the SDK to download version 3 several times - even deleted it and redownloaded it. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the version 3 driver multiple times. It still says version 2. Is this the problem, or this something completely unrelated? Note: The phone is working as a dev phone on Ubuntu, so I know the phone/cable/etc. are good. It's either my fault or the driver's.

• C# TCP Async EndReceive() throws InvalidOperationException ONLY on Windows XP 32-bit

  I have a simple C# Async Client using a .NET socket that waits for timed messages from a local Java server used for automating commands. The messages come in asynchronously and is written to a ring buffer. This implementation seems to work fine on Windows Vista/7/8 and OSX, but will randomly throw this exception while it's receiving a message from the local Java server: Unhandled Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: EndReceive can only be called once for each asynchronous operation.     at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.EndReceive(IAsyncResult asyncResult, SocketError& errorCode)     at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.EndReceive(IAsyncResult asyncResult)     at SocketTest.Controller.RecvAsyncCallback(IAsyncResult ar)     at System.Net.LazyAsyncResult.Complete(IntPtr userToken)     ... I've looked online for this error, but have found nothing really helpful. The message itself can be any length for this to happen, and the exception can happen right away, or sometimes even up to a minute of perfect communication. I'm pretty new with sockets and network communication, and I feel I might be missing something here. I've tested on at least 8 different computers, and the only similarity with the computers that throw this exception is that their OS is Windows XP 32-bit.

• ShSetFolderPath works on win7, doesn't on XP

  Hey. I'm trying to use ShSetFolderPath function in C#. I work on Win7, I've managed to use ShSetKnownFolderPath and it works fine. Since this function is unavaible in WinXP, i tried to invoke ShSetFolderPath. Because i'm not familiar with invoking, I've done some searching and found something on some French forum. • multi-core processing in R on windows XP - via doMC and foreach

  Hi guys, I'm posting this question to ask for advice on how to optimize the use of multiple processors from R on a Windows XP machine. At the moment I'm creating 4 scripts (each script with e.g. for (i in 1:100) and (i in 101:200), etc) which I run in 4 different R sessions at the same time. This seems to use all the available cpu. I however would like to do this a bit more efficient.   I'm currently facing a problem which I can not resolve and I really don't know what to do anymore. When I'm trying to start the service I receive the message: "The service is started but again also stopped, this because that some of the services will stop if they have nothing to do, for example the performance logs and the alerts service". I've looked into the Windows Logs but nothing is written there which could describe why my service is all the time stopping. I've also tried to fire the windows service via the command prompt which gives me the message: "The service is not started, but the service didn't return any faults.". I've tried to remove all keys which references to my service, which didn't resolve the issue. I've searched on google (maybe not good enough) to find an answer but I didn't found any. I did found some websites which describes what I could do, but all of these suggestions didn't work. This is kinda ** because I do not know where to look. I do not have any error message, i do not have any id which i can use to search on. I really don't know where to start and I hope you guys can help me on this one. Detailed explanation about the windows service OS: Windows XP SP3 .Net Framework: .Net 4.0 Client Profile Language: C# Development environment: Visual Studio 2010 Professional (but Visual Studio 2012 RC is installed) Communications: WCF (Named Pipes), WCF (BasicHTTPBinding) Named Pipes: I have chosen for this solution because I wanted to communicate from a windows service to a windows form application. It worked now for quite some time but suddenly my windows service shuts it self down and I couldn't restart it anymore. There are two named pipes services implemented: An event service which will send any notification to the windows form application and an management service which gives my windows form application the possibility to maintain my windows service. BasicHTTPBinding: The basic http binding makes the connection to a central server. This connection is then used for streaming information from the client to the server. I do not know which additional information you will need, but if you guys need something then I'll try to give it as detailed as possible. Thank you in advance.

  Hello I develop on a Windows machine but deploy to Debian. Trying to use hpricot with Rails 3 app. I can get the gem to install using : gem install hpricot --platform=mswin32 But when I do this in the bundle file - it keeps throwing an error (I think it's trying to install the wrong version of hpricot (not windows specific) group :production do gem "hpricot", "0.8.3" end group :development, :test do gem "hpricot", "0.8.3", :platforms => [:mswin, :mingw] end This is from another question here on stackoverflow - but it's not working for me. Any ideas? • XP Deploying issues due to msvcr90.dll trying to load FlsAlloc

  I have an application build with VS2008 SP1a (9.0.30729.4148) on Windows 7 x64 that does not want to start under XP. The message is The application failed to initialize properly (0x80000003). Click on OK to terminate the application.. I checked with depends.exe and found that msvcr90.dll does try to load FlsAlloc from KERNEL32.dll - and FlsAlloc is available only starting with Vista. I'm sure it is not used by the application. How to solve the issue?
