• Android device connects to my computer, but doesn't play audio over Bluetooth

  I turn on Bluetooth on both my devices and open up Music on my Android. I select a song to play, press the menu button, and tap "Via Bluetooth": I tap on my computer in the "Bluetooth Device Picker": Then it says, under the name of my computer: Connected to media audio Now I should technically be able to play music through my computer, since it "Just Worked" in Kubuntu with Blueman. But nope, something must be up with PulseAudio, because I hear no sound from my computer (I'm running Xubuntu 12.04). The reason I say this is that the devices list in Blueman shows indication of data transfer and it says it's connected, but in the PulseAudio Volume Control has no indication of my Bluetooth device (or Blueman) playing audio.

  After the Bios screen appears, the purple screen appears and says, "cannot load Ubuntu2D" Log off. Logging off is my only option. I am operating on a Dell Insoirion 11.10 Ubuntu system. I deleted the gnome because I read in the forum it slowed down the computer and I wanted to watch movies. I deleted Unity as well because I read terrible things about it and that it was not necessary for me. I realize my experimention in learning by adding and deleting things were not proper. I was just trying to learn and fix my sound. Please help. Thanks.

• Is there any way to downgrade or revert an update to the kernel?

  Today I installed the linux 3.9 Kernel update (because I heard it would fix sound through HDMI which I no longer have since installing 13.04). After restarted my computer and logging in my screen has only a desktop, and no dock or tool bar. I tried to reset unity and compiz using guides like this one but nothing happens, even after reboot. Is there any way to downgrade or reset the update? EDIT: Running uname -a in terminal brings up 3.8.0 as my current kernel for some reason.

• Ubuntu won't load properly all of a sudden

  This has been the second time this has happened, but when I booted this morning my hardware wasn't detected anymore. I see both screens pop up as normal, choose Ubuntu 14.04 in the grub list and from that point onwards none of the following hardware seems to be used: VGA, DVI-D, USB, Audio jacks. This has happened before, but at that time, I still had one screen left, so I could navigate through the (non-USB) keyboard and how weird this may sound, but from the moment I opened Windows in vmware, all of my hardware started working again. This was a few weeks ago, but the same seems to have happened again. This time I can't use that little hack though, since now Ubuntu stops using both screens. My hardware is all detected, Ubuntu just doesn't want to use it somehow. Did anybody else encounter this and how did they solve this?

• VMWare Player pauses often

  I'm using a 64bit Windows 8 inside vmplayer, with 2 virtual processor cores, virtual hard disk resides on a fast local disc and is not preallocated; host CPU is Intel i7 3770, should be capable of hardware virtualisation but I don't know if VMWare uses it; NAT networking; Sound card connected, USB connected, accelerated 3D graphics (NVidia 313.30 on host) My problem is, that the VM often pauses for a few seconds, and then speeds up for a few seconds to reach real time again. Time in the VM actually moves faster after the pause, for example all animations using timers speed up. When running, the vmware-vmx process shows ~150% CPU usage in top, but 0% when pausing (and D state i.e. waiting for IO). iotop shows normal disk writes from vmware-vmx threads, but during pauses, the flush kernel thread uses 99%. Are there some options to try so that VMWare doesn't wait for IO? I've tried a few things available from the GUI but the issue never went away…

• How can I teleport seamlessly, without using interpolation?

  I've been implementing Bukkit plugin for creating toggleable in-game warping areas that will teleport any catched entity to other similar area. I was going to implement concept of non-Euclidean maze using this plugin, but, unfortunately, I've discovered that doing Entity.teleport() causes client to interpolate movement while teleporting, so player slides towards target like Enderman and receives screen updates, so for a split second all underground stuff is visible. While for "just teleport me where I want" usage this is just fine, it ruins whole idea of seamless teleporting, as player can clearly see when transfer happened even without need to look at debug screen. Is there possibility to somehow disable interpolating while teleporting without modifying client, or maybe prevent client from updating screen while it's being teleported?

I'm currently using .htaccess and htusers to prompt someone to enter a username and password when they try to access any file in the root directory. This may sound like a weird request but would it be possible to have them come to the site (without an index.html) and just have them not see the files?   Hello, I currently host 5 websites within a dedicated server I own. I have several questions: Does it matter if I host all my sites on 100.100.100.100 (the server's IP for example) or if I split them into 100.100.100.100, 100.100.100.101 ... 100.100.100.104 (that is, each site on its own IP). Does it matter if I use a C-Class for each website? Do search engines really care if your site has its own c-class? Do search engines penalize a website if it moves its IP? Thanks, Joel

• Theme sometimes fails to load on some UI elements

  I have no idea if this error as been seen before or not, I have looked around and found people saying they have errors that sound the same but none of the fixes work, my issue is that sometimes the theme does not load some parts of the UI, (the buttons and icons in this case) but the rest is just fine (window bars e.t.c) so I have no idea what the issue is, it works just fine for the most part but sometimes has this bug, if you restart the system it tends to fix it for some time so its hard to see how it could be a graphic card error, however I am very new to linux systems so I may be missing someting very fundamental here. • How can I fix indicator's behaviour?

  I recently switched to Ubuntu 11.10 from Windows. The panel has been acting really weird lately. What happens is when I click on sound icon to change volume, the menu for Bluetooth connectivity pops up. When I try to hover over the popped up menu, the latter disappears the moment I move my mouse. It is just not one icon that has been troubling me. When I click on network icon in the panel, it pops-up the menu for Chat and then the popped-up Chat menu just disappears as soon as there is a movement of the mouse. I hope I was able to explain my situation. I am sure you must be aware of this issue. Please advise. Thanks.

• Is it possible to work with a dedicated server in XNA?

  Hi I want to release my XNA game to the XBOX platform, but I'm worried about the networking limitations. Basically, I want to have a dedicated (authoritative) server, but it sounds like that is not possible. Which is why I'm wondering about: Using port 80 web calls to php-driven database Using an xbox as a master-server (is that possible?) I like the sound of #1, because I could write my own application to run on the xbox, and I would assume other users could connect to it similar to the p2p architecture.   I am working on an icometric grid based game and im having an issue trying to link a mouse click from the user to a tile. I have been able to split the problem into 2 parts which is first finding a rectangle that sourounds a tile, which I have been able to do but the second part of figuring out from the rectangle which tile the click landed in has got me stumped. Here is an example of a rectangle with tiles on the inside: The rectangle is 70px long and 30px high so if i use an input of say 30x(top)/20y(left) how would I go about determining which tile this fell into?

  Possible Duplicate: How do I install Google Chome on legacy 7.10 computer? I am trying to get google-chrome to work on Ubuntu 7.10. I installed it with --force-depends and got it to install, but now when I try to run it, I get this error: /usr/bin/google-chrome: error while loading shared libraries: libnss3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Is there a way to still get google-chrome to load even without this dependency satisfied? This is an old system that needs to keep this old 7.10 Ubuntu version and I would like to have google-chrome if possible installed, even if it means no sound or other features that are not compatible.

• Why are PPA's designed for only latest version?

  Why are PPA's set to only retain the latest version of the software? I ask because I just installed Blender 2.69 and it constantly crashes on me; I then decided to just install 2.68a but found that it is IMPOSSIBLE to install an older version of software using the Ubuntu software center. I turned to possibly seeing if the PPA retained an older version but have found most PPA's remove older versions as they are designed to only offer the latest. How does this sound like a good idea? What if, for example, someone releases a version of their software that constantly crashes and the user wishes to get an older version but because the way PPA's are designed they cannot. Sounds familiar... To add insult to injury, I was easily able to role back Internet Explorer to version 9 on a machine at work today; that is just sad.

• Are there any reasons to use Bazaar over Hg or Git?

  The world of DVCSs seems split between Git and Mercurial nowadays, but lots of projects and places (like my new employer) use Bazaar. And it's not a thing of inertia where people just use something because "that's how it's always been done", these guys are agile and sometimes seem to embrace change just for the fun of having more things to fix. Yet no one gave me any convincing arguments for using Bzr over Hg or Git. I can get seeing Git as "too complicated" but you can't use this king of judgement between Hg and Bzr. So then, what are the features of Bazaar that would justify its use over Mercurial (or Git) in any given situation?

• HP dv6-2119tx cant find the built in tv tuner?? Ubuntu 12.10

  Installed Ubuntu 12.10 yesterday and I've been playing around trying to get all the drivers for my dv6. I have taken care of the the graphics card and the sound card which to be honest is not the greatest drivers I have found. Specs are Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz with nvidia gt230 My problem atm is the tv tuner card! Ive searched everywhere but i cant even find something to start on.   We are a group of people who are about to start a software cooperative, which means all of us (and other future workers) will be the owners of the 'company' rather than having bosses and employees. We do this from ideological reasons but also because we believe this allows many advantages - power of democracy (see SE..) , motivation, creativity, good work relations and atmosphere and more. We do face some questions about how exactly ownership of our products should be split, should we give different percentage for different people which put in a different amount of work hours or brings expert knowledge. We want people to feel they get what they deserve, not more, not less, and we're not sure just splitting it even will give this feeling. • Video playback not working in Ubuntu 11.10

  (Ubuntu 11.10, Gnome Classic with Compiz, Nvidia graphics card) This problem occurs with every and all video, whether it's a Youtube video in Firefox, an AVI file in movie player, or any other video. Video simply does not work. When I start any kind of video, the image halts after a second or two. The sound, however, continues. Before it seemed that if I delete all the files in ~/.gstreamer-0.10/, then reboot, the video will play. However this is no longer the case. Manipulating files in that directory does nothing to help the situation. I am now no longer sure this is a gstreamer issue or something else. I am open to any and all possibilities. How can I get video playback to run smoothly on my machine?

• My webcam stopped working, how do I fix it?

  I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 on a new Compaq Presario CQ56. The webcam was working fine for the first two days, in both Skype and Cheese, but simply turned black with thin vertical lines in the middle of a Skype call and now refuses to work in any program, including gstreamer-properties, Cheese, and VLC. It gives a black screen when rebooted into a live CD and tested. When tested, it either shows a plain black screen or black with thin vertical lines. Attached is an image of the video shown (it is static, there is no noise or static, and no response to variance in light). Also, when I play music or sounds, it makes a garbled noise related to the sound being played, which may or may not be connected to the webcam issue. If anyone has any ideas on what caused this, or whether it's a hardware or software issue, or how to fix it, I would appreciate them very much, Thanks
