  I am building a project in asp.net 4.0. My navigation will be database driven where i return a datatable from the db containing all the pages of my site, some will be top level while others will be children and sometimes children of children n-times. Im thinking of going down the nested repeater route and databinding from code behind, dynamically generating repeaters for children, but have read that this is not a best practice and should consider the listview control. Im wanting to build a list of links using an unordered list. I cannot find a solid example and was hoping for some pointers/ideas. Thanks Doo

• What's wrong with my markdown syntax? Broken in stackoverflow and bluecloth...

  I just wrote some markdown and it doesn't seem to render correctly. Is it legal syntax to have an ordered list, followed by newlines, then followed by an unordered list? Or is this a bug in bluecloth? For example: 1. One 2. Two 3. Three * Apple * Banana * Carrot Bluecloth creates a single <ul> and nests apple, banana and carrot as <li>'s under it. Stackoverflow's post editor (wmd?) does this too. Am I just doing it wrong? Surely this is a common usage case...

• Can jQuery UI's Sortable handle complex selectors for the items option?

  I have list items in an unordered list that when double clicked, can be edited in place via a wysiwyg editor. $('ul.mtm_section').sortable({ disabled: true, distance: 10, items: '> li:not(:has(form))' }); My goal is to prevent the list item from being sorted while it is being edited - aka once a form element has been swapped in place of the contents. Unfortunately my selector for items is not working. Is sortable able to handle complex selectors like these? If not, are there other clever means to disable some items from being sortable, perhaps a callback function? I would prefer to rely on this sortable option, as the wysiwyg plugin is deeply nested with jEditable and as far as I know does not open up any events for me to hook into. Using jQuery 1.4.2 and jQuery UI 1.8.1

  I'm looking for a concise way to process every (unordered) pair of elements in a sequence in .NET. I know I can do it with nested foreach loops, but I was looking for something a little more readable. I was imagining something like a modified Any() extension method: IEnumerable<Transaction> transactions = ... if (transactions.AnyPair( (first, second) => first.UniqueID == second.UniqueID)) throw ... Or maybe a foreach-style one: IEnumerable<JigsawPiece> pieces = ... pieces.ForEachPair( (first, second) => { TryFit(first, second); }); This question has been asked for other languages (e.g. see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/942543/operation-on-every-pair-of-element-in-a-list), but I'm looking for a .NET solution.

• CSS gaps between image links for no reason

  Hi, I've been trying to get this horizontal navigation sorted for the past few hours now and nothing is working. I've tried reset.css stylesheets, *{padding: 0; margin: 0) etc. and I still have gaps inbetween my image links. You see, the navigation is made up of an unordered list of image links displayed inline, but there are gaps in between each image, left, right, top and bottom and I can't see why. It's the same in all browsers. Here is a link to the page, and so source: Beansheaf Temporary I can't post more than one link (damn reputation) so the css is at the same url but in the directory "styles" and is called "fund2.css". • Markdown to text/plain and text/html for multipart email

  I’m looking for a solution to send DRY multipart emails in Rails. With DRY I mean that the content for the mail is only defined once. I’ve thought about some possible solutions but haven’t found any existing implementations. The solutions I’ve thought about are: load the text from I18n and apply Markdown for the html mail and apply Markdown with a special output type for the text mail where links are put in parenthesis after the link text bold, italic and other formatting that doesn't make sense are removed ordered and unordered lists are maintained generate only the html mail and convert that to text according to the above conditions Is there any available solution out there? Which one is probably the better way to do it?

• HTML Link and Jquery Live Only Works on First Try with one click

When the link is added to the page it works fine, however when another link is added to the unordered list it requires two clicks for the click event to fire on either link. • Display/Hide part of a list

  Hi I have an (unordered)list (generated by a repeater) of items. However, I'd like to show the first three items, and have the rest hidden by the main content div. When a button is pressed, I would like the list's div to expand, pushing the main content div down and showing the rest of the list. I was thinking of using slideDown(), but that closes the entire div ( and I would like to show the first 3 items of the list). What would be the best way to achieve an effect like this? Is there a plugin that can easily show X items of a list and the display the rest upon request? Thanks

  In Python, How can one subtract two non-unique, unordered lists? Say we have a = [0,1,2,1,0] and b = [0, 1, 1] I'd like to do something like c = a - b and have c be [2, 0] or [0, 2] order doesn't matter to me. This should throw an exception if a does not contain all elements in b. Note this is different from sets! I'm not interested in finding the difference of the sets of elements in a and b, I'm interested in the difference between the actual collections of elements in a and b. I can probably work this out with a for loop, looking up the first element of b in a and then removing the element from b and from a, etc. But this doesn't appeal to me, I'd like to do this with list comprehension in a nice and easy way. Is this possible?

  Say I have an unordered list like so: <ul> <li>Some Text</li> <li>Some Text</li> <li>Some Text</li> <li>Some Text</li> </ul> I want to use jquery so that when I click a "li", the background changes to blue. So I do this: $('li').click(function() { $(this).addClass('active'); }); And the "active" class has as background of blue. However, I can't figure out how to make it so that when I click another "li", the other "li" that has a background of blue stops having a background of blue. I guess what I'm trying to say is how to make only one "li" have a background of blue at a time--using jquery.

  I have an unordered list, and am using jquery to find the last ul and apply a class. jQuery("ul.class1:last").addClass("lastUi"); The html is as follows: <ul class="class1"></ul> <ul class="class1"></ul> This is working fine, however it has now changed in that another class is being added to the list so the html looks like: <ul class="class1"></ul> <ul class="class1 class2"></ul> <ul class="class1"></ul> <ul class="class1 class2"></ul> The jQuery code is now not picking up the last ul with both class1 and class2 as the last element and isn't adding the lastUI class.

I need to iterate through each object and perform some time consuming operation (like sending it through network etc) .   Hello html body .home blog logged-in div #wrapper div #page div .cats I have a problem with selecting unordered lists (i.e ul li.class-name class-name-number) at the above dom location in CSS. I am working with a wordpress theme. Basically could I have suggestions for the correct selector to use in order to influence this tag? I can provide a simplified html structure if it will help. I've tried a number of selectors along the lines of: (sometimes)#page (# or .)cats (sometimes)ul li(sometimes with class name) EDIT: I've tried the selectors suggested in the wordpress docs. Thanks!

The things that work are that the lists are connected, items are draggable, items can be removed and a form that adds to the list. What I need however is a function that gets all the content for li items and json encode them ready to be sent off to some db function, or something. • How do I set font size to 0px in IE6?

  I have an unordered list, I'm trying to hide the text in the list. I can do this 2 ways that i know of: font-color: transparent; font-size: 0px; I prefer the 0px method as its not selectable. This issue is neither way works in IE6. The first way just doesn't work in IE6 at all, the 2nd leave a 1PX high font. Is there a way to hide the text in IE6? This is a visual thing, I know you can read the text by reading the source and that is OK, I just need it to visually not be there.

  What is the fastest way to order an unordered list of elements by predecessor (or parent) element index using LINQ? Each element has a unique ID and the ID of that element's predecessor (or parent) element, from which a linked list can be built to represent an ordered state. Example ID | Predecessor's ID --------|-------------------- 20 | 81 81 | NULL 65 | 12 12 | 20 120 | 65 The sorted order is {81, 20, 12, 65, 120}. An (ordered) linked list can easily be assembled iteratively from these elements, but can it be done in fewer LINQ statements? Edit: I should have specified that IDs are not necessarily sequential. • Save the contents of manipulated div to a variable and pass to php file

  I have tried to use AJAX, but nothing I come up with seems to work correctly. I am creating a menu editor. I echo part of a file using php and manipulate it using javascript/jquery/ajax (I found the code for that here: http://www.prodevtips.com/2010/03/07/jquery-drag-and-drop-to-sort-tree/). Now I need to get the edited contents of the div (which has an unordered list in it) I am echoing and save it to a variable so I can write it to the file again. I couldn't get that resource's code to work so I'm trying to come up with another solution. If there is a code I can put into the $("#save").click(function(){ }); part of the javascript file, that would work, but the .post doesn't seem to want to work for me. If there is a way to initiate a php preg_match in an onclick, that would be the easiest. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Hello. I am designing a 960px wide layout with an unordered list. Each list item is 240px wide, so 4 list items fit horizontally in a row. I have about 20 rows on the page.... I want every other list item to have a background of #ececec, so my css would be: ul li:nth-child(2n+2){ background-color:#ececec; } This works. The only problem is because there are 4 items in a row (an even #), the next row would be identical, thus rendering background colors on every 1st and 3rd list items in a row. This is not the effect I am looking to achieve. I want the background colors to alternate, creating a grid-like effect. What is the correct css to do so (think a checker board). Thanks!

  Would this code be considered bad practice: <div id="sidebar"> <% =DisplayMeetings(12) %> </div> This is a snippet of code from the default.aspx of a small web app I have worked on. It works perfectly well, runs very fast, but as always, I am aware of the fact that just because it works, doesn't mean it is OK. Basically, the DisplayMeetings subroutine outputs a bunch of formatted HTML (an unordered list actually), with no formatting, just the requisite html, and then my CSS performs all the necessary formatting. The data for generating the list comes from an SQL server database (the parameter controls how many rows to return) and I am using stored procedures and datareader for fast access. This keeps my front-end extraordinary simple and clean, imho, and lets me do all the work in VB or C# in a separate module. I could of course use a databound repeater (and probably 6 or more other methods) of accomplishing the same thing, but are they any better? Other than loosing the design-time features of VS2010?

The idea of the function is that it extracts the a links ID and Text content and add's it to an un-ordered list.   I have n=32 elements that need to be partitioned into 8 sets, each set has to hold exactly k=4 elements. I need to find all possible partitions with the constraint that each pair of elements only shares the same set once. So if I start with [1 2 3 4] [5 6 7 8] [...], all consecutive partitions cannot hold e.g. [1 2 X X] or [X X 1 3]. sets are unordered. Close to this problem are the stirling numbers of the second kind. However, they only solve the problem for arbitrarily sized sets.
