  • What is the equivalent of OnRender in Silverlight?

    - by John Weldon
I'm working on porting an app from WPF to Silverlight. The app uses custom types derived from FrameworkElement (in WPF) to describe shapes, and text to be rendered on a Canvas. The WPF app root node overrides OnRender() to iterate through a collection of 'child' nodes, calling Render on each child node to build the Visual Tree. Silverlight doesn't expose OnRender, but there are hints that the same effect can be achieved using ControlTemplate. Is this the way to go, and are there any good examples of using this method available? I've done some googling (binging?) and found nothing really conclusive.

  • Good examples of MVVM Template

    - by jwarzech
I am currently working with the Microsoft MVVM template and find the lack of detailed examples frustrating. The included ContactBook example shows very little Command handling and the only other example I've found is from an MSDN Magazine article where the concepts are similar but uses a slightly different approach and still lack in any complexity. Are there any decent MVVM examples that at least show basic CRUD operations and dialog/content switching? Everyone's suggestions were really useful and I will start compiling a list of good resources Frameworks/Templates WPF Model-View-ViewModel Toolkit MVVM Light Toolkit Prism Caliburn Cinch Useful Articles Data Validation in .NET 3.5 Using a ViewModel to Provide Meaningful Validation Error Messages Action based ViewModel and Model validation Dialogs Command Bindings in MVVM More than just MVC for WPF MVVM + Mediator Example Application Additional Libraries WPF Disciples' improved Mediator Pattern implementation(I highly recommend this for applications that have more complex navigation)

  • How to get a PerSession context with WCF?

    - by christophe31
Hi, I got running a WCF service with custom binding, for now it use httpTransport. <customBinding> <binding name="myHttpBindingConf"> <context contextManagementEnabled="true" protectionLevel="None" contextExchangeMechanism="ContextSoapHeader" /> <textMessageEncoding/> <httpTransport useDefaultWebProxy="false" /> </binding> </customBinding> I've Made a custom IExtension<OperationContext> to stock my data in a specific context by following those instructions: http://hyperthink.net/blog/a-simple-ish-approach-to-custom-context-in-wcf/ I would like to use a ContextMode.PerSession context. Which transport choose to get Session management? How to set new transport in place and letting object discovery enabled? How to force a PerSession context?

  • Displaying the selected item differently in ComboBox

    - by David Brunelle
I have a combo box in which I set up an ItemTemplate that looks something like this: <ComboBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Piece.NoPiece}" Width="50" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Piece.Description}" Width="170" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Piece.Categorie.NomCategorie}" /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ComboBox.ItemTemplate> As you can see, I got three columns that let the user see different piece of information. However, I would like the selected item in the combo to display only the second column. In other word, is there a way to have an ItemTemplate that displays items in a different manner when you scroll down versus when it's closed and you only see the selection?

  • MVVM with animations (should I use VisualStateManager?)

    - by kennethkryger
I've got a View.xaml with the following set in Resources-section: <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type ViewModels:MyFirstViewModel}"> <Views:MyFirstView Content="{Binding}" /> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type ViewModels:MySecondViewModel}"> <Views:MySecondView Content="{Binding}"/> </DataTemplate> In the content of the View.xaml I have: <!-- SelectedMyViewModel is either set to MyFirstViewModel or MySecondViewModel --> <ContentControl Content="{Binding SelectedMyViewModel}" /> When the SelectedMyViewModel changes I'd like to have a animation, so that the current view is faded out and the new view is faded in... Somehow I feel this should be possible via the VisualStateManager - but I can't figure out how! This is a WPF 4.0 project...

  • How to customize the Visual Studio 2010 RC StartPage recent projects

    - by devlife
I'd like to play around with customizing the visual studio 2010 rc start page recent items. For what I have in mind I'd need to customize the datasource / databinding but I can't find where the information is coming from. <ScrollViewer Grid.Row="1" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Style="{DynamicResource StartPage.ScrollViewerStyle}" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Auto"> <sp:MruListBox DataContext="{Binding Path=RecentProjects}" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=Items}" Background="Transparent" BorderThickness="0" AutomationProperties.AutomationId="MruList"/> </ScrollViewer> Can anyone point me in the right direction? I see that it is binding to RecentProjects but where is that coming from?

  • Are there scenarios where the ViewModel needs to invoke methods on the View w.r.t. MVVM in WPF?

    - by Gishu
As per the pattern, the ViewModel exposes Properties(with change notification) and Commands (to notify the VM of user actions) that the View binds to. The only communication that flows from the VM to the View is the property change notifications (so that the View can refresh itself with updated data). In MVP or PresentationModel form of the pattern (if I'm not mistaken), the View implements a plain vanilla interface (consisting of methods, properties and/or events). With MVVM, it feels methods on the IView have been outlawed (along with IView itself). One scenario I could think of was to set the focus to a certain control in the View. (When the user does ActionX, the focus should immediately be set to FieldY). In MVP, I'd write this as IView.ActivateField(NameConstant), which the presenter or PM would invoke. In MVVM, this seems to be a fringe case that needs a workaround / little bit of code-behind. The VM implements an ActiveField Property, which it sets to NameConstant. The view picks up the change notification event and in a code-behind event handler, activates the Name control. Is the above just an exception to the norm? Or are there other such scenarios, where the VM needs to invoke a method on the View ?

  • Visual Artifacts in Visual Studio 2010

    - by Simon Chadwick
I'm using VS 2010 on Windows Server 2003, running on a Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop. VS 2010 runs fine, except for persistent and random screen re-drawing issues. Samples of these are here. These artifacts occur as the mouse moves over items that highlight on a mouse-over event, while scrolling, and when switching tabs. VS 2008 has non of these issues, so I assume that it is related to VS 2010's use of WPF. Could it be that my video card or driver is not up to the task of rendering WPF? Some other WPF applications (not Silverlight) also have some of these screen repainting problems. I have tried a variety of settings in System Properties--Advanced--Performance Options--Visual Effects, and in the related "Advanced" tab, Processor Scheduling is adjusted for best performance of programs. Many thanks for any suggestions!

  • Setting Canvas properties in an ItemsControl DataTemplate

    - by atsjoo
I'm trying to databind to this ItemsControl: <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding Path=Nodes, Mode=TwoWay, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged}"> <ItemsControl.ItemsPanel> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <Canvas /> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemsPanel> </ItemsControl> By using this DataTemplate, I'm trying to individually position my Node elements correctly: <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type Model:EndNode}"> <Controls:EndNodeControl Canvas.Left="{Binding Path=XPos}" Canvas.Top="{Binding Path=YPos}" /> </DataTemplate> However, it's not working as expected. All my node elements are drawn on top of each other in the same position. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this?

  • design time usercontrols - I can't see anything!

    - by taglius
newbie question, please forgive... I'm developing a Wpf UserControl that will eventually be bound to a business object. The usercontrol is little more than a series of laid out TextBlocks, and perhaps (later) an image or two. As I'm laying out the usercontrol, I can put dummy text into all the TextBlocks so I can see what the usercontrol will look like, but as soon as I change the text property to contain the Binding information: <TextBlock Margin="0,12.8,42,0" Name="lblLastName" FontSize="8" Height="19" VerticalAlignment="Top" Text="{Binding Mode=OneWay, Path=LastName}"/> Then I can no longer see the textbox, or any "placeholder" text. This makes it very difficult to adjust the location and sizes of all the controls on the UserControl. In WinFormas programming, you could set binding information independently of the Text property, so you could at least see the Placeholder text during design time development. It's going to be pretty hard to visually arrange a bunch of invisible TextBlocks! What's the standard solution for this?

  • How to handle a DataTemplate creation

    - by Shimmy
Hello! Take a look at the following xaml: <ListBox ItemsSource="{Binding}"> <ListBox.Resources> <CollectionViewSource x:Key="CVS"/> </ListBox.Resources> <ListBox.DataTemplate> <DataTemplate OnBinding="myBinding"> <ListBox DataContext="{StaticResource CVS}" ItemsSource="{Binding}" /> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.DataTemplate> </ListBox> So I can handle the binding and manually retrieve the CVS and set its Source property to my custom stuff according to the DataTemplate's DataContext. Or else there is a different way in doing it. Any ideas are welcommed!

  • Wrapping with Dependency Properties

    - by Chris
I've got a Windows Forms control that I'm wrapping with a WindowsFormsHost-derived class to access WPF's data binding functionality. The Forms control exposes properties that indicate its state, along with the standard property-changed event notifier. For example, a Zoom property on the Forms control is accompanied with a ZoomChanged event. In the WindowsFormsHost wrapper, I'm using a DependencyProperty to represent the underlying Windows Forms control property. Binding works as expected going to the control; however, I'm not sure how to correctly propogate property changes from the wrapped control back out to binding subscribers (i.e., the Windows Form control changes its Zoom property and raises the ZoomChanged event). Any ideas on how to accomplish this? Should I be using a different approach?

  • How to bind to current riacontext user in xaml

    - by Jakob
Hi. I Have a datacontext that has a "getuserbyguid" method, i want to pass in the current logged in user.userid as a parameter, but I don't know how to bind to the current logged in user through xaml. I've tried {Binding Path=User.UserId} but without any luck. I'm using the built in riaservices authentication methods, so the userinfo should be exposed in the riacontext, or am I wrong about this? I have this for instance <riaControls:DomainDataSource x:Name="FollowingGridData" AutoLoad="True" QueryName="GetUsersFollowedByIDQuery" LoadSize="20"> <riaControls:DomainDataSource.DomainContext> <my:NotesDomainContext /> </riaControls:DomainDataSource.DomainContext> <riaControls:DomainDataSource.QueryParameters> <riaControls:Parameter ParameterName="userguid" Value="{Binding Path=User.UserId}" /> </riaControls:DomainDataSource.QueryParameters> </riaControls:DomainDataSource> But it gives me an error saying that it's not a guid, meaning that it must not be binding correctly

  • Puzzle - Dynamically change data template control from another data template

    - by Burt
I have a DataTemplate that contains an Expander with a border in the header. I want the header border to have round corners when collapsed and straight bottom corners when expanded. What would best practice be for achieving this (bonus points for code samples as I am new to XAML)? This is the template that holds the expander: <DataTemplate x:Key="A"> <StackPanel> <Expander Name="ProjectExpander" Header="{Binding .}" HeaderTemplate="{StaticResource B}" > <StackPanel> <Border CornerRadius="0,0,2,2"> This is the expander datatemplate: <DataTemplate x:Key="B"> <Border x:Name="ProjectExpanderHeader" CornerRadius="{Binding local:ItemUserControl.ProjectHeaderBorderRadius, RelativeSource={RelativeSource FindAncestor, AncestorType={x:Type ContentPresenter}}}" Background="{StaticResource ItemGradient}" HorizontalAlignment="{Binding HorizontalAlignment, RelativeSource={RelativeSource FindAncestor, AncestorType={x:Type ContentPresenter}}, Mode=OneWayToSource}"> <local:ItemContentsUserControl Height="30"/> </Border> </DataTemplate>

  • How to? WCF customBinding over Https

    - by user663414
Hi all, I'm trying to setup a WCF service for internal use, on our external facing web-farm (we dont have a web farm internally, and I need this service to have failover and load-balancing). Requirements: PerSession state, as we need the service to retain variable data for each session. HTTPS. After lots of googling i've read I needed to create a customBinding, which I've done, but not sure if it is correct. Larger message size, as one of the parameters is a byte[] array, which can be a max of 5mb. no requirement to manually edit the client-side app.config. ie, I need the Developer to just add the service reference, and then starts using the object without fiddly changing of app.config. Note: I've previously had this service working under HTTP correctly (using wsHttpBinding). I've also had it working under HTTPS, but it didn't support PerSession state, and lost internal variable values each function call. I'm currently getting this error from the test harness: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'AppMonitor.IAppMonitorWcfService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element. NOTE: The error is arising on an Test Harness EXE, that has the WCF service referenced directly under Service References. This is not the problem of an exe referencing another object, that then references the WCF service, that i've read about. The WSDL is showing correctly when browsing to the URL. Web.Config: <system.serviceModel> <services> <service name="AppMonitor.AppMonitorWcfService" behaviorConfiguration="ServiceBehavior"> <endpoint address="" binding="customBinding" bindingConfiguration="EnablePerSessionUnderHttps" contract="AppMonitor.IAppMonitorWcfService"/> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexHttpsBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> </service> </services> <bindings> <customBinding> <binding name="EnablePerSessionUnderHttps" maxReceivedMessageSize="5242880"> <reliableSession ordered="true"/> <textMessageEncoding> <readerQuotas maxDepth="64" maxStringContentLength="2147483647" maxArrayLength="2147483647" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384" /> </textMessageEncoding> <httpsTransport authenticationScheme="Anonymous" requireClientCertificate="false"/> </binding> </customBinding> </bindings> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="ServiceBehavior"> <serviceMetadata httpsGetEnabled="true" httpGetEnabled="false"/> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="true"/> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> </system.serviceModel> EXE's App.config (auto-generated when adding the Service Reference): <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="CustomBinding_IAppMonitorWcfService" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" bypassProxyOnLocal="false" transactionFlow="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536" messageEncoding="Text" textEncoding="utf-8" useDefaultWebProxy="true" allowCookies="false"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="8192" maxArrayLength="16384" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384" /> <reliableSession ordered="true" inactivityTimeout="00:10:00" enabled="true" /> <security mode="Transport"> <transport clientCredentialType="None" proxyCredentialType="None" realm="" /> <message clientCredentialType="Windows" negotiateServiceCredential="true" establishSecurityContext="true" /> </security> </binding> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings> <client /> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> I'm not sure why the app.config is showing wsHttpBinding? Shouldn't this be customBinding? I really dont want to have to edit the app.config, as this service will be used by dozens of developers, and I want them to just be able to add the Service Reference, and away they go... Using VS2008, .NET 3.51. I think server is IIS7, Win Server 2008, can confirm if needed.

  • Bind to a collection's view and just call ToString()

    - by womp
I'm binding a GridView to a collection of objects that look like this: public class Transaction { public string PersonName { get; set; } public DateTime TransactionDate { get; set; } public MoneyCollection TransactedMoney { get; set;} } MoneyCollection simply inherits from ObservableCollection<T>, and is a collection of MyMoney type object. In my GridView, I just want to bind a column to the MoneyCollection's ToString() method. However, binding it directly to the TransactedMoney property makes every entry display the text "(Collection)", and the ToString() method is never called. I understand that it is binding to the collection's default view. So my question is - how can I make it bind to the collection in such a way that it calls the ToString() method on it? This is my first WPF project, so I know this might be a bit noobish, but pointers would be very welcome.

  • Memory is leaked only in some machines.

    - by Jorge Córdoba
We've got a situation where our application is leaking memory while doing some periodic action. The test scenario is composed of a series of processes across two relatively complex WPF windows. The weird thing about the situation is that memory only gets leaked on SOME machines, while others, having exactly the same hardware, can be working for really long times (repeating the process every minute) having their memory almost unchanged (once the GC gets rid of used memory, etc). This is .NET + WPF. Any ideas about where to start looking? What can cause leaks in only some machines? (we're talking about a 30 machine test scenario). I have few experience with WPF, could the graphic card had anything to do with it?

  • WCF MustUnderstand headers are not understood

    - by raghur
    Hello everyone, I am using a Java Web Service which is developed by one of our vendor which I really do not have any control over it. I have written a WCF router which the client application calls it and the router sends the message to the Java Web Service and returns the data back to the client. The issue what I am encountering is, I am successfully able to call the Java web service from the WCF router, but, I am getting the following exceptions back. Router config file is as follows: <customBinding> <binding name="SimpleWSPortBinding"> <!--<reliableSession maxPendingChannels="4" maxRetryCount="8" ordered="true" />--> <!--<mtomMessageEncoding messageVersion ="Soap12WSAddressing10" ></mtomMessageEncoding>--> <textMessageEncoding maxReadPoolSize="64" maxWritePoolSize="16" messageVersion="Soap12WSAddressing10" writeEncoding="utf-8" /> <httpTransport manualAddressing="false" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536" allowCookies="false" authenticationScheme="Anonymous" bypassProxyOnLocal="true" keepAliveEnabled="true" maxBufferSize="65536" transferMode="Buffered" unsafeConnectionNtlmAuthentication="false"/> </binding> </customBinding> Test client config file <customBinding> <binding name="DocumentRepository_Binding_Soap12"> <!--<reliableSession maxPendingChannels="4" maxRetryCount="8" ordered="true" />--> <!--<mtomMessageEncoding messageVersion ="Soap12WSAddressing10" ></mtomMessageEncoding>--> <textMessageEncoding maxReadPoolSize="64" maxWritePoolSize="16" messageVersion="Soap12WSAddressing10" writeEncoding="utf-8"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="8192" maxArrayLength="16384" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384" /> </textMessageEncoding> <httpTransport manualAddressing="false" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536" allowCookies="false" authenticationScheme="Anonymous" bypassProxyOnLocal="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" keepAliveEnabled="true" maxBufferSize="65536" proxyAuthenticationScheme="Anonymous" realm="" transferMode="Buffered" unsafeConnectionNtlmAuthentication="false" useDefaultWebProxy="true" /> </binding> </customBinding> If I use the textMessageEncoding I am getting <soap:Text xml:lang="en">MustUnderstand headers: [{http://www.w3.org/2005/08/addressing}To, {http://www.w3.org/2005/08/addressing}Action] are not understood.</soap:Text> If I use mtomMessageEncoding I am getting The server did not provide a meaningful reply; this might be caused by a contract mismatch, a premature session shutdown or an internal server error. My Router class is as follows: [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.Single, ConcurrencyMode = ConcurrencyMode.Multiple, AddressFilterMode = AddressFilterMode.Any, ValidateMustUnderstand = false)] public class EmployeeService : IEmployeeService { public System.ServiceModel.Channels.Message ProcessMessage(System.ServiceModel.Channels.Message requestMessage) { ChannelFactory<IEmployeeService> factory = new ChannelFactory<IEmployeeService>("client"); factory.Endpoint.Behaviors.Add(new MustUnderstandBehavior(false)); IEmployeeService proxy = factory.CreateChannel(); Message responseMessage = proxy.ProcessMessage(requestMessage); return responseMessage; } } The "client" in the above code under ChannelFactory is defined in the config file as: <client> <endpoint address="http://JavaWS/EmployeeService" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="wsHttp" contract="EmployeeService.IEmployeeService" name="client" behaviorConfiguration="clientBehavior"> <headers> </headers> </endpoint> </client> Really appreciate your kind help. Thanks in advance, Raghu
