  • PHP Included files writing their own content from Importer values ...

    Hello, I have a index.php file that will include several external files: "content/templates/id1/template.php" "content/templates/id2/template.php" "content/templates/id3/template.php" etc. All these files are loaded dynamically into index.php (it reads all folders inside "templates" directory and then includes every "template.php" file). I want to make "template.php" to have the same code in all the "id1,id2,id3" folders, BUT to load values from index.php depending in which folder it stays.. How can I do that? Thank You!

  • Style question: Writing "this." before instance variable and methods: good or bad idea?

    One of my nasty (?) programming habits in C++ and Java is to always precede calls or accesses to members with a this. For example: this.process(this.event). A few of my students commented on this, and I'm wondering if I am teaching bad habits. My rationale is: 1) Makes code more readable — Easier to distinguish fields from local variables. 2) Makes it easier to distinguish standard calls from static calls (especially in Java) 3) Makes me remember that this call (unless the target is final) could end up on a different target, for example in an overriding version in a subclass. Obviously, this has zero impact on the compiled program, it's just readability. So am I making it more or less readable?     I am about to write a tcp/ip data relay - application that passes a one way stream of data from one host/port to another host/port. Initially it will be generic, but later on i will customize it to the need of a specific business request. I am guessing that something generic already exists out there so my question is: Has anyone used a third party (preferably open source) data relay in a production environment, if so what is, and do you recommend it?   • Writing a custom auth system (like the default django auth system), use it to generate tables in DB

    Hay all, I've been reading up on middleware and how to use it with a context object. I want to write a simple middleware class which i can use on my own applications, it will essentially be a cut down version of the django one. The problem i seem to have is that if i have INSTALLED_APPS = ('django.contrib.my_auth') in the settings file, all is well. I've also added MIDDLEWARE_CLASSES = ('django.contrib.my_auth.middleware.MyAuthMiddleware') in it and everything is fine. My question is, how would i make my middleware automatically generate tables from a models.py module, much like how the django auth does when i run manage.py syncdb? thanks

  • Which style is preferable when writing this boolean expression?

    I know this question is to some degree a matter of taste. I admit this is not something I don't understand, it's just something I want to hear others' opinion about. I need to write a method that takes two arguments, a boolean and a string. The boolean is in a sense (which will be obvious shortly) redundant, but it is part of a specification that the method must take in both arguments, and must raise an exception with a specific message text if the boolean has the "wrong" value. The bool must be true if and only if the string is not null or empty. So here are some different styles to write (hopefully!) the same thing. I have already written a parser which reads the .sas files and generates the output.   • How the reading from and writing to sockets are synchronized?

    We create a socket. On one side of the socket we have a "server" and on another side there is a "client". Both, the server and client, can write to and read from the socket. It is what i understand. I do not understand the following things: If a server reads from the socket, does it see in the socket only those stuff which was written to the socket by the client? I mean if server writes something to the socket and than reads from the socket, will it (server) see in the socket the stuff it (server) wrote there? I hope not. Let's consider the following situation. A client write something to the socket and then it writes something new to the socket and then server reads from the socket. What will the server see there? Only the "new" stuff written by the client or both "new" and "old" one? If a client (or server) writes to the socket, can it see if the written information was received by other side? For example out.println("Hello, Server!") will return true it server received this message.

  • How would I go about writing a Linux TTY sniffer?

    For educational purposes (not that anyone should care the motivations behind such an exercise) I'd like to write a program that can read/write to/from alternate tty/pty's. I've read papers (from the 1990's) but can't employ the implementation they use, on modern UNIXes. I was hoping that someone had researched into this in the past, or at least, read documentation pertaining to it, that they could provide. I also wonder if (considering the fact that Linux doesn't have STREAMs) if this exercise must be done via a loadable kernel module? I have many questions and probably a misunderstanding of some of the fundamental ideologies that allow such objectives to be put in place, could someone help? :)

  • Dynamically writing out li with jquery. Element is not clickable after being written

    I have have a a function that when a checkbox is checked i dynamically write out an li into a ol that is empty. Code: $(":checkbox").click(function() { var checkedState = $(this).is(':checked'); if (checkedState == true) { var productName = $(this).attr("title"); $("#selectedProductsList").append("<li class=\"productList " + this + "\"><p class=\"removeIcon\"><img src=\"images/remove-icon.png\" alt=\"Remove Product\" /></p><span class=\"productName\">"+ productName +"</span></li>"); }; }); Then when that writes out there is a remove icon that will remove the item from the ol when clicked. This remove icon has a class of removeIcon which can be seen in the dynamic li above. I have a function that processes the remove call and then does some actions: Code: $('.removeIcon').click(function() { alert("starting"); }); Right now i have the remove action just trying to alert a message that it got called. But it seems that it is not getting into the function. Is there a certain way that i need to access these dynamic li's other then the .click method? I saw this post: Dynamically Inserted DOM Elements are not Clickable using $.click() Where they added .live vs .click but this doesn't seem to work either. Any ideas?

  • Are there any good books on writing commercial quality software?

    Hey, My background has been generally new technology demonstrators, which, well... demonstrate the latest technology and how it can be of use to a clients company. They use it for internal demos etc. Now my career has shiffed course a bit more into actual products, in particular software which runs in locations like museums as interactive pieces. Clearly, although the technology demonstrators had to be well coded etc, there wasn't as much emphasis as there is on my current work, which has to work, be highly configurable, probably multi-ligual and run constantly, without restarts. So my question is, now that I'm trying to up my coding quality and write more commercial applications, are there any books which discuss issues surrounding high quality commercial software? I currently have a copy of Code Complete 2nd Edition, which is excellent, but just wondering if there's any better, possibly more focused titles out there? Thanks a lot! Andy.

    I am interested in implementing an architecture that has two databases one for read operations and the other for writes. I have never implemented something like this and have always built single database, highly normalised systems so I am not quite sure where to begin. I have a few parts to this question. 1. What would be a good resource to find out more about this achitecture? 2. Is it just a question of replicating between two identical schemas, or would your schemas differ depending on the operations, would normalisation vary too? 3. How do you insure that data written to one database is immediately available for reading from the second? Any further help, tips, resources would be appreciated. Thanks.

    My app is currently written to accept vendor and product information like this. http://www.mydomain.com/foo.aspx?v=1&p=100 could this be re-written like this? http://www.mydomain.com/1/100/foo Since the values in the original query string are database IDs, how would I express newly created IDs as segments of the "path" in the re-written version of the URL?   • Reading and writing dates to the registry for trial version purposes.

    Hi all, Here's what I want to do, I want to store the date the first time the program is installed and also store a date when was the program was last run. I want the code to check to see if it was more than 30 days since the installation so I can turn off features. I also want to check if the system date is less than the last opened date and if so write the installed date to 1/1/1901 to prevent the program from running. Keeping in mind that this is not a consumer program but a business program I don't expect hackers to crack it, they may do but that is fine I simply want to give potential customers a reason to consider purchasing the program and the end of the trial will prompt this. 1: Does this sound reasonable? 2: How should I hide the fact this is a date so it's not easily changed?   • How do you mentally handle going from writing managed to non-managed code?

    ~80% of the code I write is in C#. The other ~20% is in C++. Whenever I have to switch from C# to C++, it takes me quite a while to mentally "shift gears" to thinking in C++. I make simple mistakes using pointers and memory allocation that I would not have made when I was in university. Is this normal? Does anyone else experience something similar and if so, what do you do to cut down on the time this wastes?

  • Writing a template for XSLT Copy-Of to transform a message with differences. How?

    I have an xml message that is in the older schema (xsd) format. My new schema is exactly the same but I embedded an element inside the older one. For example : My old schema had an element : <exclude> MyRestriction </exclude> but my new schema is like this : <exclude> <restriction> MyRestriction </restriction> </exclude> and the entire message is the same as before. Last time I used to do a copy-of but now I need to have a template that copy-of everything but move the value of the exclude to the restriction tag. Anyone can help me please ? Thanks
