  • Can HTML injection be a security issue?

    I recently came across a website that generates a random adjective, surrounded by a prefix and suffix entered by the user. For example, if the user enters "123" for prefix, and "789" for suffix, it might generate "123Productive789". I've been screwing around with it, and I thought I might try something out: I entered this into the prefix field: <a href="javascript:window.close();">Click</a><hr /> And, sure enough, I was given the link, then an <hr>, then a random adjective. What I'm wondering is, could this be dangerous? There must be many more websites out there that have this issue, are all of them vulnerable to some sort of php injection?

  • PHP fails silently when php-code is within html tag

    PROBLEM UPDATED, READ BELOW For some reason my CI fails silently when loading view. Loading view is simply called from controller $this->load->view('templates/default.php'); Now. There are some functions in the loaded view that are not defined unless a proper helper is loaded as well. Normally, php would throw an error, but instead it fails silently here. I have no idea why. The template gets outputted till the line containing the undefined function. It took me long time to realise where my script is failing. Here's my setup: Windows 7 Ultimate Apache 2.2.15 PHP 5.3.2 with following error reporting settings: display_errors = On display_startup_errors = On error_reporting = E_ALL | E_STRICT CodeIgniter 1.7.2 Any ideas why would that be? UPDATE After further debugging, it turned out that PHP fails to report any errors when php code is inline with HTML and within the HTML tag. Now this is bizarre. This returns Fatal Error: <p><?php echo $bogus(); ?></p> This doesn't and fails silently: <p class="<?php echo $bogus(); ?>">paragraph</p> Why? :O UPDATE 2 Further investigation showed that if an error_log in PHP is specified, the errors are in fact reported in that file, but still not in the browser... Again, why? UPDATE 3 Actually my code should be slightly different. Checked another PHP installation on completely different machine and it confirmed the PHP bug.   • Right way to center a <div> in xhtml?

    Im working with a XHTML 1.0 Transitional doctype html file, and I want to have a main div with 800px width and make it appears centered (not the div content, but the div itself).     I know inline Javascript is frowned upon and with the new on-the-fly Javascript compressors that check for idle/unused function usage and omit the unused code, it seems good practice to have all your Javascript in an external file. My question is, in situations like FOUC (flash of unstyled content) which usually require little snippets of code right before the closing </body> tag, is there a JQuery resolution that would serve the same purpose, but from a remote Javascript file linked in the <head> of the document?

    In my application I'm exporting an Excel file by getting the layout of a HTML page. So, in my codebehind, I'm modifying the HTML layout and inserting itens on it like if it was a webpage. Doing it that way, I don't need to use any external library and, as the data I'm exporting is just a table, I don't need nothing complex to handle it. My question is: there is a way to create an AutoFilter by just modifying the HTML tags? I mean, like if a put a < bColumn Name in the HTML, when exporting to Excel it will become Bold, it is possible to do the same thing with the AutoFilter?

  • Disable MathML output of eLyXer

    eLyXer is a standalone LyX to HTML converter. In the resulting file, equations are formatted as MathML, and the file itself starts with an XML tag. This causes two problems: LibreOffice does not read the XML file (it can read HTML files, but not XHTML). I am unable to copy and paste the equations into a document editor such as LibreOffice with the goal of subsequent conversion into .doc, because .doc files do not support MathML. The eLyXer help page mentions an option to only use simple math, but there is no option to set math equations to output as images. And I already set Document Settings Output Math equations Format: images in LyX, which presumably is saved in the lyx document somewhere. A web search did not come up with any solutions.

No rounded corners just the shape itself. I saw plenty of websites doing thsese buttons lately, but now for some strange reason I couldn't find any. Ideally I'm looking for tutorial links or some general guidances, as the topic might be too big to be covered by one post. Technology scope wise - ideally I'm looking for Html5/Css3 solution. I don't care mouch about old IE support and I think Html5/css3 will give a slicker/more elegant solution. On the way forward I might need to add drop shadows, which is another argument in favour of css3. Thanks.

  • Some Adsense domain's ads are causing document.write() statements that remove the html from the page

    All that is output on the page is the domain name of the advertiser, for example 'www.solar-aid.org'. The rest of the content is stripped, I believe because of a document.write() statement. I'd like to know if this is a common issue or something wrong with our setup. There are three domains causing the issue, which we've blocked from Adsense as a result. solar-aid.org kiva.org grameenfoundation.org Given the type of organizations I think they may be within the default group of 'public service ads' within the Backup Ads setting. If the issue doesn't completely resolve itself soon (one customer of ours complained today, even though I blocked them 5+ days ago), I'll disable public service ads and select the 'fill space with a solid color' option.
