• markdown to HTML with customised WMD editor

  For my application I customized slightly the way WMD behaves so when user enters empty lines, these are reflected in HTML output as <br />'s. Now I came to a point when I should store it somewhere at backend and so after going thru SO posts for a while I'm not sure what is the best way to do it. I have few options and if you could point out which their pros/cons that would be much appreciated. send to server and store as markdown rather than HTML. To me obvious advantage would be keeping exactly same formatting as user originally entered. But then how can I convert it back to HTML for display to a client? It seems very troublesome to convert it on client side as even if it would be possible what would happen if JS would be disabled? If I wanted to do it on the server, then standard server side implementations of markup to HTML might be resource expensive. Would that be an issue in your opinion? Even if it wouldn't be the case then as I mentioned my WMD implementation is customised and those server side solutions wouldn't probably do the right conversion to markdown anyway and there always would be a risk that something would convert wrong. Send to server as converted HTML. Same as above.. conversion on client side would be difficult, server side same with possibility of getting it wrong. send original markdown and converted HTML and store both. No performance issues related to converting markdown to HTML on client side, nor on server side. Users would have always same markdown they originally entered and same HTML they originally saw in preview (possibly sanitized in php though). It would have to take twice that much storage space though and that is my biggest worry. I tend to lean towards 3rd solution as it seems simplest, but there is a worry of doubled storage space needed for this solution. Please bear in mind that my implementation of WMD is slightly modified and also I'm going with PHP/MySql server side implementation. So apart from 3 options I listed above, are there any other possible solutions to my problem? Did I miss anything important that would make one of the options above better then the rest? And what other pros/cons would apply to each solution I listed? Also how is it implemented on SO? I read somwhere that they using option 3, and so if its good enough for SO would be good enough for me :) but not sure if its true anyway, so how is it done? Also please forgive me, but at least for once I got to say that StackOverflow IS THE BEST DAMN RESOURCE ON THE WEB and I truly appreciate all the people trying to help others here!   It doesn't seem that the Html.CheckBoxFor helper adds the correct "checked" attribute when rendering the HTML. I have a bool property rendered like so: <%= Html.CheckBoxFor(m => m.Visible) %> And the outputted HTML is this: <input type="checkbox" value="true" name="Visible" id="Visible"> Is there some particular reason it does not add the "checked" attribute when the value is true?

  What is the best way to parse (get a DOM tree of) a HTML result of XmlHttpRequest in Firefox? EDIT: I do not have the DOM tree, I want to acquire it. XmlHttpRequest's "responseXML" works only when the result is actual XML, so I have only responseText to work with. The innerHTML hack doesn't seem to work with a complete HTML document (in <html</html). - turns out it works fine.

• Load HTML NSString into a UIWebView

  Im doing a project where I connect to a webpage using the NSURLConnection to be able to monitor the status codes that are returned (200 OK / 404 ERROR). I would like to send the user to the top url www.domain.com if I recieve 404 as status code and if i recieve as 200 status code I would like to load the page in to a webview. I have seen several implementations of this problem by creating a new request but I feel that it is unnecessary since you already received the html in the first request so i would just like to load that HTML in to the webView. So i try to use the [webView loadHTMLFromString: baseURL:] but it doesn't always work, I have noticed that when i print the NSString with html in the connectionDidFinnishLoading it sometimes is null and when I monitor these cases by printing the html in didReceiveData a random number of the last packets is NULL (differs between 2-10). It is always the same webpages that doesn't get loaded. If I load them to my webView using [webView loadRequest:myRequest] it always works. My implementation looks like this perhaps someone of you can see what Im doing wrong. • All browsers refusing to load a specific image on a webpage?

  Out of nowhere today, all 3 of my browsers (FF/Chrome/IE, OS = Win7 x64) are refusing to load the homepage of interfacelift.com correctly. It works fine on other PC's in the house (on the same network), so it is definitely related to this one PC. The browser won't load the main image on the page correctly (even though the source code looks good), however if I direct the browser to the exact location of that image, then it displays fine. So obviously I can get the HTML index (which locates the resource) and I can get to the resource. So why heck isn't it displaying properly on the index page? It's almost as if the HTML rendering engine has gone bad, on all 3 browsers at once. I've browsed to a bunch of other sites (including sites very heavy on JS, with HTML much more complex than the one in question here) and am seeing nothing funny. Only thing wonky I've done with my PC in the past several hours was replacing the system file Magnifier.exe with a copy of cmd.exe while playing around with some of the ideas mentioned in this guide. However, I've since then restored the files to their previous state, and I don't know how Magnifier would be related to this even if I hadn't restored it. Any ideas? I'm stumped!   I'm finishing professional school and over the years have acquired a pile of notes and articles that I'd like to hang onto. I'd like to add to them and create sort of an archive of article and files that may be useful down the road. I'd also like to organize this collection of files not only by simple grouping but also with tags. I feel like that will make searching through them years later much easier. Suggestions on software that would be good for this? Just a general file manager, something that uses tags that can be attached to each file? Thanks

• Outlook Signature Broken in Entourage

  Some of our company uses Windows with Outlook 2010, and the rest use Mac with Entourage. When our standard signature line is included in an email that goes to Entourage, the result does not display correctly. It appears that Entourage is mangling the HTML. My working theory is that Entourage encounters inline CSS styles it does not know about and stops processing styles, but I'm really not sure. Question: How can I enter a signature into Outlook 2010 that will render correctly in Entourage? For example, can I specify somehow the exact HTML to use? Here's an example of how the HTML is being changed. • Message Date/Time tag in Lotus Notes

  I've noticed that within Notes (8.5.2, basic client, fat client and iNotes) the date/time displayed on the eMail envelope AND the date/time on the message header is the same and appearently that time that Domino received the message. When using BES, the message forwarded to the BlackBerry by Domino/BES has the RECEIVED date/time on the envelope and the SENT date/time displayed in the message. In the basic/fat client with properties the sent time is viewable in one of the "Received" tags. Having the sent time easily viewable is helpful, especially if your trying to trouble-shoot a problem. Is this a configuration feature? Is it selectable in the client or in Domino? Thx

• Is it possible for the Subversion Apache module to serve html files with an html content-type without using the svn:mime-type property?

  I am aware that if you set the svn:mime-type Subversion property on a .html file to text/html then when viewing the file in a browser through the Subversion module in Apache httpd it will be served with a Content-Type: text/html header, enabling the browser to render it as HTML rather than plain text. However, I am looking for a way to do this without using the svn:mime-type property. I'm aware that you can configure your svn client to automatically add the property - this is not what I want, as I do not want to ensure all users have these settings. I'm also aware that I could create a pre-commit hook that rejects the commit if the properties are not set, in order to force users to set the property - I might fall back to that, but I'm looking for something less intrusive. I'm also aware that I could use a post-commit hook to add the properties automatically on the server-side. I'd rather not do that (as users then have to update immediately after their commit, and it's not trivial to write) - I'm looking for a better alternative. Perhaps something with rewrite rules in the Apache server?

• Is It Possible To Self-Teach PHP, Wordpress, CentOS (Linux), Apache, Nginx etc?

  consider me a total noob, who uses a Windows PC and has never touched Linux. But I want to administer, manage and take responsibility of my server, at least at some point, if not now. But since I am a full-time blogger I am unable to find time to study at an institute. So, here is my question — - Is It Possible To Self-Teach HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, Wordpress, CentOS (or for that matter any Linux distro), Apache, Nginx, and Varnish? Yes, beginning with HTML, absolutely all of them. I might seem overly ambitious and foolish, but I just want to do it. Aren't there any self-taught server admins? (1) Please help me out with the names of good books, links and whatever you can. (2) How long would it take me to get there (approximately)? 3 years? 5 years? (I have good touch with HTML & Wordpress.) This is a great community, I hope at least some of you will shoot some suggestions at me.

• Program to dump ID3 tag structure

  Is there a program that would dump the complete structure of ID3v2 tags? Not just the frame names and values, but full information such as frame order, text encoding, description encoding (for TXXX frames), presence of unsynchronization, presence of multiple tags... Background: I'm rather curious why some files are incompatible with some programs. For example, some ID3v2.4 tags written by foobar2000 are not read by Winamp; editing with Mutagen fixes them but editing with foobar2000 breaks again. It's not the version or data encoding – most other v2.4 UTF-16 tags work fine... However, if I use foobar2000 to convert the tags to v2.3, then back to v2.4, they start working fine in Winamp – this last bit just does not make any sense. Edit: Linux or/and Windows.

  We have a task which builds based on data from 4 different SVN repositories. I want to allow QA promote a build, so that the revisions participating in the build are tagged with the build number and some optional label. I have encountered the following problem - the promoted build may not be the most recent build. How do I know the SVN revision of each of the four repositories used during that build? I know that each build has this information in the revision.txt and build.xml files associated with the build, but how does it become available in the context of promotion? Thanks. P.S.   I'm a CS uni student in a country with limited bandwidth, and I find that I download files (particularly install files) for reuse\reinstallation\giving to my friends.. I've kept these files in different folders, and now find it extremely hard to find them, and keeping track of obselete files (the almost weekly releases of iTunes versions, or latest 7zip release or the .Net framework installers). What I would like to find is a file manager that could support tags, so instead of hierachical folders, i could find\view files according to their tags...

• Avoid richfaces to send back javascript libraries in the ajax responses

  I'm using JSF 1.2 with Richfaces, and for every ajax request, the server is sending back the response, whichi is good, but it also contains all the links to the javascript files. I want to improve the performance so I just want the <body> to be returned, because all the javascript files are already loaded in the browser when the user logs in (my app is not restful). How can i do that? Now, based on some condition, I would like to create a <span> tag instead and put the attributes in there. Is there anyway it can be done easily ?   Hi I am new to Regex, however I decided it was the easiest route to what I needed to do. Basically I have a string (in PHP) which contains a whole load of HTML code... I want to remove any tags which have style=display:none... so for example <img src="" style="display:none" /> <img src="" style="width:11px;display: none" > etc... So far my Regex is: <img.*style=.*display.*:.*none;.* > But that seems to leave bits of html behind and also take the next element away when used in php with preg_replace.
